My GF and I visited Tumble22. We were greeted by friendly staff. They were very informative about the food and building. They took great care of us and were very attentive. I had collard greens for the first time and they were amazing!! We each got a different kind of chicken sandwich with no spice. The flavor was fantastic! It was a pleasant atmosphere with good music playing. My GF was introduced into to sweet tea and loved it. We were thinking about going to Chick Filet and we're so glad we ate at Tumble 22. I've been hooked on Gus' World Famous Fried Chicken for ALL the years since the Washington Ave one opened some years back...but then I let a friend talk me into trying this newer place 1 or 1.5yrs ago called Tumble 22 Hot Chicken which is "Texas Born & Breaded Hot Chicken" & FOLKS LISTEN...I was FLOORED! I had NO IDEA fried chicken could be AS PERFECT as that, w/its super crunchy, not too greasy, thick & mind alteringly DEEEEEEElish CRUST (I'm sweatin' just THINKING ABOUT IT its so goooooood! Like, THEIRS @ Tumble 22 is the kinda fried chicken that's "SO GOOOOOD it makes u wanna SLAP YO' MAMA" as the old saying goes. FACT. & it DOES, too...but don't do it or yo' Mama might knock out ur teeth & THEN how u gonna eat?!! It is HONESTLY THE MOST DELICIOUS fried chicken I have ever buried my teeth in...& I must admit...it pushed Gus' off their pedestal. Granted, there ARE things ABOUT Gus' that I love & miss, so I return there when my fried okra requirements get too overwhelming. Gus' makes THE BEST fried okra to date. Tumblr 22 Hot Chicken doesn't serve okra, unfortunately...but ALLLLLLLL the other sides kinda make up for it I guess. Lemme tell yall what to expect @ your 1st visit eating @ Tumble 22 Hot Chicken: 1IF it's your 1st time there (& if they forget to ask, TELL EM!) They'll wait to take the table's orders til the new ppl get a chance to sample their fare. On the sampler plate you will find 6 big bites of chicken; to allow you to determine your desired "heat level", & they offer levels: Painless, Hot, Mo' Hot, Dang Hot, Cluckin' Hot & Stupid Hot, this is NOT THE PLACE to try & show how tough you are b/c you may get your tastebuds BURNED OUTTA YOUR HEAD if you do! Their top levels are a WHOLE OTHER ANIMAL than what most humans are used to so tread lightly is my advice. No doubt some will ignore me, tho. Good luck to those not-too-bright folks. I'll pray for y'all when you're gasping for air. And don't skip over the side samples b/c they are AMAZING! The Broccoli Salad...WHO KNEW - THAT- could be SO YUMMY?!!! I didn't...but IT IS! It won't behoove anyone. 2Orders have been placed w/their seemingly ALWAYS DAMNED GOOD LOOKIN' WAITERS, who are always very pleasant even when I've walked in @ 10mins to close, & insisted I did NOT need to get it to go...AND REMAINED friendly & provided great service throughout, AS ALWAYS! The wait for your meal may feel loooong, but I PROMISE it's not! To date, it's always been UNDER a 15min wait for the delicious food! And once they sit your meal b4 you... it has become a hobby of mine to check out different hot chicken places and this one is near the top of my list. i wouldn't say it's a typical hot chicken place but that's what's so special. the first time i went we got a free sampler platter of 3 of the different levels of hot chicken and a few different sides. the beans were over all my favorite but its so hard to pick because all of the sides taste so homemade and delicious. i usually order the kids tender meal with a regular side of beans because ive found that's enough food for me. i've brought family and friends here and we've all been impressed with the flavor of the food. the restaurant has a nice vibe to it with all of the decor and decorations. there definitely is a change of pace for service speed with lunch vs dinner but nothing outrageous since they're both pretty quick. read more

The chicken doesn't have a good taste even after ordering the hot flavor) I had to order a side of hot honey because it was so bland. The greens were ok, but weren't seasoned as well. This was my lunch date spot with my husband and it was a nice modern spot. I would say the thing that took a little away was when you first walk in, it's a little confusing since you don't know if to sit down or wait to be seated. The waiter, who by the way was amazing and very helpful with suggestions, was doing it all on his on. He would great the people coming in when he could, sit them and wait on them. This place is terrible. Went to the relatively new store near Memorial City. Service was the absolute worst. Took 30 minutes to receive order, which was wrong, then had to wait another 30 minutes for replacement.. Meanwhile, I think we had one drive-by to refill our drinks. It wasn't at all busy, so that's no excuse. Then the 'boneless' chicken sandwich delivered had all the bones still in it. That was a very unpleasant surprise. The food was good. I ordered the Heavenly eggs to start and the O.G. chicken sandwich with a side of Mac and Cheese. The chicken was flavorful and juicy and the deviled eggs were really good, but the Mac and Cheese was a little mushy. The main reason my rating isn't higher is because my friend and I felt pressured to continue ordering food. When we first sat down we ordered drinks (sweet tea and coke) with deviled eggs. While we were still eating our waiter came over 3x to ask if we wanted to order anything else... we said not at the time but we would let him know. He came back again right after we finished the deviled eggs and then someone else came to just stand there looking at us as we spoke until we stopped talking mid-sentence for him to ask us if needed anything... weird in my opinion. This is a "must try" eatery! The staff is amazing from the host to our waitress Shae. After we told the host that we were "first timers", he brought us an array of samples. For an appetizer, we chose the Heavenly Eggs and for the entree, we chose the mac and cheese along with the collard greens. The chicken was great as you had to choose how spicy you wanted it. If I could dgive zero stars I would. The service here is slow. If you have 1.5+ hours for lunch then come waste your time (only a party of 4). Otherwise go somewhere else. Ordered food right at opening at 11:05 didn't get it till 11:35. Then ordered a shake at 11:40 waited 30 minutes to get a melted shake that had been sitting in the back for prolly 20 minutes. Server completely forgot about it and then blamed it on the food preps in the back. Not an enjoyable experience and I won't be going back to waste my time there again. read more
