Food is always good, always look forward to eating at Tumbleweed and service is always good

There's an old saying, "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me". Last time I visited Tumbleweed I said it was a one & done. But I got suckered (again) by the happy hour specials. $1.99 margarita? An icee with no resemblance to an actual margarita. No lime juice. No quantro or liqueur. No booze. Just like my first visit. If you're going for happy hour, skip mixed drinks and stick with beer or wine. Hopefully. Something they can't screw up. Next up. $3 appetizers. We went with their TexMex nachos. And do they ever need a refresher course on nachos. Tons of lettuce. Tons of chips. Tons of shredded (flavorless) chicken. A spec of cheese. No jalapeños. No guacamole. A large order of "blah" served lukewarm. Everybody deserves a second chance. But Tumbleweed lost me at hello again. read more

This place advertises that Kids Eat Free on Sundays. Not true. We went--3 adults and 3 kids. Charges 6.99 for each child. It was Fathers Day, so if that is the reason you were not doing it, say something. I paid the bill, not realizing at the time as the youngest one was getting fussy, so we were in a hurry to get out. My friend and I visited TW for 2nd time since it opened. Camberlin was our friendly server. My friend ordered salmon on home fries with mango sauce on the side, baked potato, and black beans. He said it was delicious. I was equally pleased with my chicken and Avocados tacos with refried beans and rice. Ambiance is okay with 8 TV's playing sports. Driving through and saw this restaurant. We had no idea what to expect but the parking lot was rather full at 1:30 in the afternoon. We were greeted and seated quickly. The menu had a lot to offer. I asked the server what she recommended. Steak tacos are her favorite. I went with her suggestion. They were delicious. The rice and beans were flavored very well also. Warm chips were served with a choice of three salsas. We tried the apricot salsa. It was yummy. My husband likes hotter salsa. We were a party of three and seated at a comfortable table. I've been a Tumbleweed girly since they were in the food court at River Falls Mall (yes, I'm telling my age here). We dined in tonight and Thomas took fantastic care of us! The restaurant is laid back and the food is consistently good in my opinion. I was starving so unfortunately no pics from tonight (and you don't want to see the carnage left behind). As I've stated before in my reviews I am a creature of habit. Almost always start with queso and apricot salsa, and get steak fajitas, with double refried beans. My meal was delicious as usual. Sidebar - they serve some of my favorite refried beans ever. I have been stalking the internet for a copycat recipe for years, and still haven't found one. When we have taco Tuesdays or parties, I often order catering portions of beans. Highly recommend! read more

The BLANDEST fried chicken sandwich I've ever had in my life. Didn't even finish it. The floors were incredibly sticky. The waiter was really nice and chill but was also incredibly high. It didn't bother me and my company ( they were slow but got the job done and were very attentive) but maybe that's not something you wanna deal with. The place was quiet and not busy but for 13 bucks the fried chicken sandwich was terrible. My dad got tacos and said they weren't that good either way- too heavy on lettuce and light on the beef. They did give us two big bowls of chips and some decent mild salsa that I enjoyed but my company didn't. read more

Had a large party last night of 14 people. We got a table quickly. Our server was kind and patient with us. He paid attention to all of our needs, like refilling our drinks and chips before we even asked. Our food came out correctly. Only a couple of items came out late, but we had a lot of food, so it wasn't a big deal. There were also bathroom problems, which kind of sucked but the issue got fixed pretty quickly. read more

Tumbleweed has been a Kentuckiana favorite for years...still is. Offering a full service bar and a very well rounded menu keeps people coming back over and over! Our visit was great, we were greeted promptly and made aware of the daily specials and drink specials. You always get complimentary chips and salsa prior to your meal. If you'd like queso with your chips there is an up charge. Dinners vary from authentic Tex Mex salads and steaks. Love the sirloin steak, it's served with two sides. Hostess is the waiter. Saw people come in and nobody greeted them so they left. Restaurant opened at 11 and still no other customers at noon on a Saturday. Food is not the greatest and a bit bland. No music or TV noise so it's awkwardly quiet. Would not recommend this location. read more

It's a fair place. Thursday night $1.99 margaritas is a reason to go. They are good and you can taste the alcohol. The grande nachos could stand more garnishment. When I really want good Tex-Mex this is my go to place. Tumbleweed salsa and queso set the standard in my opinion. I have several favorite Mexican dishes that I enjoy, and the American choices are great also. Do not recommend eating here if you have celiac or gluten allergy. Our server was super nice about it. However, the manager made fun of my allergy and acted as if it was not even a thing. We sat next to the kitchen so I could hear and see his actions. I ordered the baked potato chicken without onions (they are breaded) and said I had a gluten allergy. My food was brought out with two pieces of toast, touching my food. This has never happened to me. I was a little distraught asked them to send it back because even a little bit of cross-contamination can affect me. Server was very helpful not being her at fault. Tumbleweed was an alright meal but nothing stood out as special. I oreered their famous queso and it was small for the price and tasted like it could have came from a can. For the main dish I got a beef burrito. The burrito had beef, cheese, lettuce, and onions and a suace of your choice. I did love that I got to choose the sausce topping of my choice. I did not like the lettuce in the burrito because it became warm and mushy. The overall atmosphere was very themed to a southwest/Texas feel which was kind of fun. This place is disgusting. And service is horrible. We walked in, weren't greeted, but sighed at like they couldn't believe that we just added to their work load. The waitress said that it would be a 15 min wait although there were tables everywhere. Indiana is open people. We have no Covid restrictions. Even if covid policies were in place, there was more than half the restraint open. When we asked if we could be seated, we didn't mind how long it took them, she said that each waitress was already double tabled and we needed to leave. We weren't allowed to sit at the waiting chairs. She was so beyond rude. This is the exact reason tumbleweeds are going out of business. The place is dingy, and horrible service. Will never be back to another tumbleweed. Can't wait to see this one go the way off the rest of them. It'll make a nice gas station one day. read more

I wouldn't normally choose to go to Tumbleweed, however after an hour of hearing it's my birthday and I'm now 14 mom that makes you old I folded........ it was as if I was hearing that cartoon character mommy, mommy mom! Till I could scream. She and I walked in were immediately seated and greeted as well. Our drink orders were taken and some delicious apricot salsa for myself and mild for the child. We were brought out a large queso for our dipping delight. I decided on a chicken breast with a mango chili type sauce. And the child as always has to have a steak. I'm still a little confused as to why she was so adamant on Tumbleweed for a steak but we went. I believe she likes the salad. I must admit the the chicken I had was actually very delicious. It was little sweet with a little heat. I had some sides as well but I gave my corn to the child. Her steak looked, well as she called it like a burnt turd. She ate it and did say with the A-1 sauce it was fine. Then again I think my child would eat anything I'd give her. So she's probably not the best person to ask. We went back there after they reopened after the fire and the server we had was the worst server i have ever had at a restaurant so we decided to go back again on 7-10-23 and this time it was the food had no seasoning at all and the servers just don't really care....Never again read more

The service was impeccable, friendly, funny, attentive. Excellent. There atmosphere was decent and the dining room fresh with a more open concept. That is where the good review ends. The food was inedible, starting with the salsa. Ordered the double topped chicken bacon burrito. After two bites, I knew, but tried to power through. The chicken was that weird chicken texture you get with really cheap chicken with almost no flavor except for some strange taste. The sauce was terrible and over powering. The rice tasted like it came from a "90 second" supermarket bag. 80 percent remained on my plate. Haven't been to Tumbleweeds in years, came with friends. Ordered food online for the Jeffersonville store at around 10;30pm. Got a notification that my would was being prepared so I drove to the restaurant. I get there and wait 20 minutes and realize the employees are all leaving. The store closed and I never received my food. I looked at my bank account and the $50. 54 was taken out. read more

My husband and I are regulars to this tumbleweed and usually come almost every friday to tumbleweed for our date night until this craziness with the Corona virus started. My husband ordered take out today from tumbleweed and was sad to learn that all of their servers and most of their employees had to be laid off and because their business has been so low that they may not recover after the pandemic and may have to close permanently. This pandemic has been so devastating to everyone and it breaks my heart to know that good people are losing their jobs due to this. We will definitely miss them if they close. They are great workers and great people read more

Terrible service and food! I was served a cup of ice instead of a cocktail and the bartender got mad at me and tried to confront me in front of our table. She used words like honey and sweetheart which was very rude. The food was not good and I can tell it was reheated... our plates of steaks were dry... very dry! Upon entering we stood at the hostess stand for an extended period of time before being greeted or sat. This gave us time to notice how dirty the place was. At this point we should have left..we were seated. Once our server arrived to the table she proceeded to tell us how tired she was from the dinner "rush". We ordered queso as an appetizer. From my understanding this is a fairly common appetizer and shouldn't take long to bring. After 5 or so minutes our server returned to the table wanting to take our order. We asked for a few more minutes since we hadn't even received our standard chips and salsa or our queso. At this moment she looked back to the window where the food comes out of the kitchen and says " I see your queso just came up, let me greet this other table and I'll bring it right out." From my seat I can see the queso in the window myself. I watched her greet the table and while doing so the hostess delivered chips and salsa to the new table that was being greeted. As this is happening I see the kitchen staff start loading the window with food. Our server, brings drinks to the table she left us to greet. Then decided to deliver the food that came out to a completely different table. This entire time I'm just watching our queso bake under the heat lamp. Finally our server decides to bring the queso. About 10 min in total from when she was last at our table and said she saw it ready In The window. She delivers the queso with no chips. Mind you, my gf still hasn't gotten her margarita we ordered when we first sat down. She goes to get our chips and salsa. At this point we were considering leaving but we were starving. So we wait.. and wait. 5 more minutes go by while we look at the queso with no chips. We finally gave up and walked out. This by far is the worst service I've ever received at any level of restaurant. Not only would I never go back, but I will never go to any tumbleweed in the future. But this story does have a happy ending. We left and went to star sushi. We were greeted, sat, had drinks and salads all before the tumbleweed employees probably even noticed we left! read more

Wow!! If you crave the "good ole days" of Tumbleweed Restaurant, this is the one to go to! The queso was delicious, the chips were fresh and light, the food looked like it was prepared by a chef....beef and cheese burrito/enchilada style sprinkled with a touch of shredded cheese baked on top w/delicious rice that offsets the signature zip of that scrumptious enchilada sauce and a side of sour cream, a huge baked potato stuffed with chicken and topped with a heap of onion straws and drizzled with sour cream and sprinkled with cilantro, and even the kids "prairie pups" with perfectly done french fries flanking the plate was 5-star! The entire restaurant looked like it was running professionally and smoothly! The host was nice, the server was nice, the food runners were nice! So glad we went!! The atmosphere and layout are not the "old school" Tumbleweed, just fyi. Modern, airy, bright, and fun! All good from us! On point - and please keep up the awesome food quality and service! I have eaten at several different Tumbleweeds over the years. This one was my least favorite (putting it nicely). The service was slow and almost rude. We waited forever to get refills and when the waiter finally brought my water back there was a napkin wrapper dissolved in it. I don't know how that happened or how they could have not noticed it. After I got a fresh water, our food was served. The food is mediocre. As I am eating my rice I come across a metal spring.... in my rice... a metal spring. How does that happen? It must have been from a utensil in the kitchen. I asked to see the manager and though he apologized, he didn't seem to care much. I received my meal for free only after having to complain. We went in May and our CC was processed but then 2 months later they processed it again and said it was because the first time their CC processor did not process it. Their compensation to the 100s of people this happened to..25% off next order.
