First time using this place of business for a vehicle inspection. They had great reviews. They opened on time at 7:30am, the only shop opened at that time in proximity of my home. The service tech greeted the three of us waiting and hit the ground running getting us checked in, and the garage set-up for his day. Be prepared to leave your vehicle to the end of the day. I'm not sure if this is a Saturday or end of the month thing because I know from experiences shops can get real busy. However, I wasn't prepared to leave my vehicle but I left it and walked home. I called to check on my vehicle at 3:44pm and was told if I had not received a call it was not ready. It maybe ready in about 45 minutes. Sure nuf I received a call at 4:09pm and told the shop closes at 5pm. I had just had a 5K miles service on my 2021 vehicle so I know there were no issues. This should be easy breezy. I can appreciate great service, but I was the 3rd person in line at 7:25am and I didn't get a call until 4:09pm, almost 9 hours later. Man, all day but it was my fault for waiting to the last minute. But you know what? I learned today! read more

Overall, I think the experience would've flowed better if the front person wasn't so demeaning. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!!! I took my 1989 pontiac firebird to get a full vehicle inspection. It had been in storage until i got back from deployment. I asked to do a full check-up and tune up. I ended up being charged $2,500 over the phone for supposedly parts that had to change and for labor. I told david to hold on and that i wanted to go in before i made the payment. I felt forced to make the payment because by the time i got there, my car was up on a lift, and it was already taken apart, before i agreed to make a payment for the work to start on the job! I asked him if there was anything that could wait, and David said that all the parts were already ordered, so no, which he made me believe there was nothing I could do. When i picked up my car, the mechanics were sitting there laughing because i kept asking questions when i turned my vehicle on, and it started making a noise it hadn't made before.. David said to drive it and bring it in on Tuesday to get it checked. The next day, i tried to start my vehicle, and it died, and the service engine light came on. So i opened my hood, and one of the things i was charged for was for the battery hold down kit... which turns out they didn't even install. My battery was still the same as before... no hold down kit... they also didn't fill up all the fluids in the car, i found a leak and a missing bolt around the engine. Should I now believe David, the general manager, took advantage and charged extra for work they didn't do? unfortunately, I am wondering if he sabotaged my car so that I could bring it in again. Seeing that they didn't install something so simple like the battery hold down kit... makes me believe they didn't even change all the other parts he charged me for. Let me tell you why these people are scam artist. I took a car in for state inspection and they came back with 6 things that failed. One of them they said was gonna be $90 in labor to remove a bumper. You don't have to remove a bumper to change a bulb. It is two screws and the light fixture pops out. And there was nothing wrong with the bulb. It was the right color and it worked. Another, they said were bushings that were cracked, which is a lie because the bushings are less than three years old and they're not cracked. Another thing they said was a steering leak that required a $150 diagnostic, which is BS because a leak doesn't require diagnostic. It requires just a new hose or maybe a hose clamp. There was some other stuff they said was wrong like blown shocks but they were fine as well. I've been working on cars probably longer than the "lube tech" (that's what they called the technician on the receipt) that did my inspection has been alive. I'll never go back to these people again. read more

I fear being taken advantage of, when I have to have my vehicle serviced. That is why I am writing this review. I am pleased to write this review for Tune up Plus (my first review ever). I was surprise at the level of customer service and care I received at Tune Up Plus. The staff and the manager delivered service that was more than I expected or imagined possible from an automotive service experience. Tune up Plus's general manager, Mr. David Cerulli charming personality and Mr. Will "Junie", eased my fears today. I arrived to Tune up Plus much later than I originally intended. Nevertheless, general manager, Mr. David Cerulli, was able to have his workers repair my Rav4 on the same day. Despite having to wait I didn't mind because several others had arrived way before I had. I was exceedingly pleased I didn't have to come back, especially when I heard Mr. Cerulli on the phone stating to others to please come in early the following day as he was completely booked up for today. Upon my arrival at the Indian River location, Mr. Cerulli greeted me politely. He was his normal friendly, cheerful self. He offered me coffee, confirmed I needed to have my wheel bearing done (he remembered me from a prior consultation from weeks earlier), and asked if there was anything that I needed or wanted. Mr. Cerulli and Mr. Will, they both took the time to explained to me what was going on with my car. Doing this made me feel like a little sister who was being taken care of by her big brothers. After completing my repair, out of an abundance of care and concern they both recommended follow-up services that I need to take care of to be and to remain safe on the roads. I recommend you stop by and experience firsthand Mr. Cerulli charming personality and Mr. Will "Junie" bright eye and butter-melting smile; and maybe you too will feel like a part of the Tune up Plus family. Extraordinarily poor experience. Came on a Friday at 10 AM and the worker said he was full for state inspections for the day. We asked if he would accept an appointment and he said no. He told us to return the following day at 7:30 and he would get us in. Returned at 7:30 the next morning and asked again. His words- "No. you didn't stand a chance. I still have eight inspections booked from yesterday." So now he is accepting bookings?? Very sleazy, unprofessional vibe. There are plenty of other auto service places in the area, I would advise you to skip Tune Up Plus and choose ANYWHERE ELSE. UPDATE: In response to the comment left on my post by Greg T, the main issue was not that I could not have my car inspected here today. I was able to immediately go across the street and work with someone professional to receive the inspection needed. I truly hate going to get maintenance performed on my car. Especially being a young female, I sometimes have mechanics trying to tell me XYZ is wrong with my car, even though I just needed ABC to be fixed. Then they try to up charge me for the extra services they had to perform without my consent of doing such services. Car maintenance just gives me a headache, and is a possible living nightmare. The manager at the front desk was personable, and I told him straight to the point that I did not want any funny business with my car since I need to be on the road to beat traffic heading north. He was more than happy to assist me, and even took my car in on the spot to be serviced. The manager worked with his crew to get my trusty 2011 Honda CR-V back into alignment, and tires rotated all within 2 hours or less. When checking out, the manager thanked me for choosing Tune Up Plus for the first time, and hopes to see me again soon. After the quick service they were able to provide, and memorable customer service tactics, I'll be coming back since it is quick, and conveniently located. read more

I came here for an inspection of another vehicle after a bad experience at Firestone. He doesn't do appointments, but was able to do an inspection on my vehicle the same day. It failed for having a broken parking brake and an inner tail light was out. Also it only had one of two fog light assemblies in the front bumper. I brought the car home and ran new parking brake cables to new rear calipers, fixed the tail light, and took out the remaining fog light assembly. (He hinted it would pass if it didn't have either fog light). I had looked into putting the fog light back on the bumper prior to the inspection but it would have required new plastic studs be "welded" into the plastic bumper, or a new bumper. I elected just to run without fog lights. The car passed inspection a few weeks later. It was $40 total, since it failed the first one, but the interaction was good and honest. read more

I came to this location to get a problem fixed From another tune up plus location. I was so frustrated and was crying the general manager David cerulli helped and listened. The last location with a T. Thompson at the Gainsborough location was unprofessional unempathic and didn't even care. I took my 2006 BMW here for a VA state inspection. My vehicle had nothing that would not have allowed it to pass inspection. I know because it was recently serviced at a BMW dealership. The manager calls me and says my power steering fluid is low and it MIGHT have a leak. He said there is no visible proof of a leak and the performance is not affected, and there is no noise to substantiate the claim, but because it is low he KNOWS there is a leak. He would not know until his mechanic did a full flush which would cost another $160. WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST TOP IT OFF???????? I tell them to fail it and give me my car. Which takes them another 15 minutes to do. So now I'm suspicious they have dont something to my vehicle. Absolutely ludicrous. Don't take your car here. They will try to rip you off even when the country is all going through a unprecedented point in time and people are struggling just to maintain bills and food. DISGUSTING. read more

I have purchased Groupons before to be used at this location and I've never had a problem until now. Called to make an appointment today and asked if I could just drop it off. He told me he pretty much will never be able to get me in and to go to their Chesapeake location instead. That's not the reason why I purchased it to have to drive out of my way. I guess he wanted to justify the reasoning behind it by telling me they only have two lifts and mostly do heavy jobs. Then why list your location to use for this Groupon?? Dave was extremely courteous and helpful and very thorough. He explained all of his recommendations for my 105k tuneup and made sure I understood what he planned to do and why. He also gave me a military discount on parts and labor and he provides a lifetime warranty on his work. He threw in an oil change for free as well. Back in November I came in for an inspection and to get my headlight replaced and spent over $440. Everything went well and David helped me out as much as he could with my financial situation. Today, 1/23/19, the HID bulb I had replaced just two months ago went out again and it should have been a simple replacement at no cost to me. It turns out that the ballast was faulty and the people Tune-Up Plus bought it from will not replace it. It's unfair for me to have to pay twice for the same bulb when the bulb itself was fault and/or the work was faulty. I should not have to pay $149 to replace a bulb I just replaced two months ago!!!! Okay, so clearly the negative reviews are due to misunderstandings using the groupon. I recommend that you call ahead and get a quote so you are aware of any extra costs. Yeah you have to pay for oil disposal, extra quarts, higher end oil, etc. This is all totally standard with any oil change coupon in existence, no need to get salty about it. That said, I went in for an oil change ( I used a groupon and I knew before calling that there would be extra charges but the manager also informed me upfront so I wouldn't be surprised). Turns out I also needed a brake flush which I also had done. The service was 5 stars. The manager, David, was incredibly nice and personable, and explained the procedures and charges thoroughly- there were no surprises. He even turned on some TV for my 4 year old and gave her a quarter for the candy machine. The techs were quick and efficient. It was probably the most pleasant experience I've ever had at a mechanic. They wanted to charge me an additional $45. for the oil change. I did not have them do the oil change. I have verified that the oil for my car, 0w-20, is available in a semi synthetic. This place honestly just sucks and rips you off. I took my car to get inspected after them telling me all I needed to fix was a broken blinker lights. Okay perfect. Fixed it! Then failed due to my headlight alignment, then wanted $36 per headlight to move a screw around. Ridiculous. When I went to another mechanic shop, they wouldn't even touch my headlight alignment because they said it was perfect. So???? I was the first person there when they opened up and was told it would be a 5/12 hr wait.. Do not go here!!!! They are a bunch of crooks. They charged $45 for a headlight adjustment last year for the state inspection and then wanted to charge $75 to adjust them again this year. Then they made up some story about a power steering hose leaking which is not and a brake caliper not fully applying. All made up claims. They tell you they will put you in the queue to be waited on but then you wait two days for the ones that are actually wait for their cars in the waiting area. They will tell you anything they need to to get you in there to rob from you. I used to put inspection stickers on myself and I will never ever go to this place or recommend it to anyone!!! My family and I have gone to tune up plus for years and each time I feel like I get nickeled and dimed for every little thing. I normally am okay because hey they are just trying to make sure my car is maintenance right? Well this time I brought my car in for a State inspection and failed for multiple reasons, some of which were very valid and I said okay go ahead and fix the leak and adjust my headlight. However the smaller things I said I can go ahead and fix and I did, I brought it back to get it reinspected and I still failed for my windshield wipers not going down all the way even though they did. I kindly said thank you and have a nice day and proceeded to take my business elsewhere. Guess what my car passed right away, so I'm very frustrated and will be telling other people not to come her due to the fact you guys just want to make money. I thought about calling the state trooper and having him look at it but I decided against making a scene. Please DO NOT take your cars here they will pick apart every little thing they can to make a quick buck. If there were a zero star rating I would select it. Stay way from these crooks. I brought my car in for a simple spark plug and ignition coil replacement. I bought the parts and paid for the labor, 375 dollars. When I picked up the car it was in way worse shape then when I dropped it off. It was misfiring really bad and almost undrivable. Dave was insisting I leave the car in his shop so he could further investigate "the problem" and that he would "work with me to get it running right". I immediately smelled a rat and left the premises as fast as I could and brought the car home. A day later, after a sleepless night, I went under the hood for some investigation. As I proceeded to do my OWN tune up, I eventually found a coil wire leading to the left side of the engine, (the 2 4 6 cylinders), disconnected meaning the car was firing on only 3 cylinders when I picked it up from the shop. Sabotage? Intentional? I think so. I reconnected the wire and the car ran just fine. I then brought the car back to the shop and confronted him. He denied all culpability but it was fun to watch him crap in his pants! Stay away from this place. Seedy crooks, no morals. I will be reporting him to his corporate office on Monday. read more

We gave them my husband's car and $9000 in November 2013 shortly before Thanksgiving. Here in January 2015 we still do not have his car. They sent the engine to be machined at a shop out of state instead of using a local machine shop and that took 4 months. Then we get it and the check engine light is back on within days. From February to about June it was back and forth with them saying it's fixed and us having to bring it back within a week. Then the regional manager got involved and we were quoted that it'd be a couple of weeks and we should get the car back mid August. One excuse after another. Car was finally finished mid December. We were told we'd be able to get more information about a partial refund (because even after all of this we only asked for a 50% refund). Well we get there Jan 8th (the holidays were full of closures and we were involved in an accident that made my husband unable to drive the car) and they want to do free work instead of giving us a refund. My husband is in the process of transferring to a new command and isn't sure if he can get the time off to go to court (although at this point we're willing to make the time) so he agrees and they promise to have the car finished by Jan 13th. Of course we don't have it yet. It's awful that rather than admitting the car was beyond the scope of their abilities they took our money and just jerked us around. I used to use them a lot before we moved to FL and I don't know what happened while we were gone but the service now is AWFUL. I will NEVER recommend them to anyone again and I've started warning people against using them. Greed is an awful personality trait that will sink a business. read more

I want to add information to the review posted by Josie O. After being told she needed to pay to realign her headlights, she chose to wait and NOT pay Tune Up Plus to do it. She took it to another mechanic's shop the next day. That mechanic did NOT, and could NOT find any issue with her headlights. He gave her the written diagnosis that they were fine and would pass inspection. We discussed it last night and decided to give Tune Up Plus another chance to pass her vehicle this morning, but she took her Father with her. The only option was to wait so he could put it on his machine and show her the problem. Well, he NEVER offered to show her the issue the first time she was there, and she was not interested in being convinced he knew more than the other mechanic. He just got frustrated that she would not pay to fix it. She told me he was rude. After being told by a different shop that there was no problem with her headlights, she has no trust in this shop at all. She left. She got in her car and she wrote her review. She told me what happened. I called Tune Up Plus to talk to the guy. He was more focused on her leaving and writing the review than ever attempting to please a customer. I asked him how two shops would have two different answers. I asked him if his machine was calibrated, and his reply was the machines have to be. That's NOT what I asked, I know of the requirement. I told him I believed he was trying to take advantage of her. She is young, she's not a mechanic. I asked again how two shops have two different answers. The only thing he would offer is that she come to his shop and he would show her the problem. Again, we lost faith in this business the day before. I believe their equipment may be faulty. Or I believe they gain income from charging for items that are not necessary during the inspection process. He told me to go get a State Policeman to his shop and he would tell me to go away if I questioned their equipment. At the very least, this place needs to learn customer service. Obviously, the customer is NOT important to them. But, by golly, that all mighty dollar is very important! Be careful if you go to this place, you could be overcharged. I am currently looking into the complaint process for state inspectors. It seems to me that return customers should be important. We chose this business because we live close to it. I like to give our community business, but I refuse to be treated like my business does not matter. I refuse to believe I am being ripped off. I refuse for any business to treat me rudely and now I think they are charging for unnecessary repairs. Josie's car passed inspection at another business today. No repairs required. Do not go to this auto body shop!! My experience was about two months ago, and I'm not really the kind of person to post negative reviews because I understand as a business owner how detrimental those can be, and how emotionally provoked they can be. However I stupidly purchased a Groupon for an oil change, and it was for this place. I should've read the reviews. When I got in I had made an appointment a few days prior for a 12 o'clock appointment. I was greeted by possibly the rudest employee they hopefully employ. When I said I was there for my 12 o'clock appointment he acted like he had no idea what I was talking about and then after a lot of dragging his feet he finally admitted that there was a 12 o'clock on the books with my name. He asked if I was dropping my car off, and obviously since it was an oil change I had not anticipated it being a long experience since I had made the appointment. He chuckled at me and said that it could be hours if not until the next day that it was ready. I told him that was unacceptable that I live in North Carolina and I had scheduled my day around this appointment. Finally he asked one of the mechanics in the back how long it would be before my car could be seen. It was five minutes. Then I asked him how much an air filter would cost to replace. He laughed at me and asked which one. I'm not a mechanic so I have no idea how many filters are in my car. I replied the one that needs to be changed the most often and he said that would be my interior air filter. I asked how much it would cost again, and he instructed me that there was an AutoZone beside their shop and I was more than welcome to walk over to see how much one would cost. He Did mention though he would put it in for me for free. I was not looking for any handouts I was simply looking to have some maintenance done on my car. However I did walk over there and bought myself an air filter and he did put it into my car. Then when it was time to bring my car into the actual shop he went out with my keys, and then came back a few minutes later asking if there was any particular trick to turning my car on. I panicked. I raced out to my car thinking something insane has happened in the time that I've been in the parking lot and on the first try it turns on. I'm very frustrated at this point so I quickly walked back into the building as he is shouting something behind me. I'm starting to feel unsafe and I'm starting to feel like my car might be in danger with these people. But at this point it's too late. He gets the car into the shop walks back into the waiting room and then tells me what a rude customer I am and how I have no right to act the way that I do. And again they have my car back there so I just politely nod and go back to looking at my phone trying to seem distracted. He comes in a few times siding there could be this Major damage on my car, or if I leave without getting it fixed my car is going to break down any second. I politely decline any additional services just wanting to leave. About an hour later my car was finished and I quickly left. If you are a woman that does not know much about mechanics, definitely do not go to this place. It is a very hostile environment, and I'm not speaking on any of the employees except for the man that ran the front desk. The mechanics in the back seemed very competent. However their front desk Guy could definitely use a crash course in manners, and not making his customers feel unsafe. Apparently this is a veteran owned business, I also am co-owners of a veteran owned business and they should uphold that title a little better. I hope that the owner sees this, and I hope he's embarrassed on behalf of his employee. Last year, I took both mine and my husband's car here to get inspected. My car passed but my husband's did not. It was a little bit of a hassle because I had to take it somewhere else to fix the issues and had to come back to Tune Up Plus a couple of time to get it resolved. I didn't think much of it and it wasn't so big of a problem that I wouldn't go back. Well, this year, I brought my car back in to get inspected. I asked how long it would take and the guy told me 15 to 20 mintues and they were just waiting on someone to get back from lunch. I said great and gave them my info and keys. During my wait, I see the guys in the garage just sitting around and my car sitting there with the hood open and no one around it. The guy behind the desk took a few personal sounding phone calls, and in one of them he was talking about how he "pulls in over $1,700 a week." Over an hour later they said it failed for minor stuff (taillight out, dirty headlights and their positioning.) I told them to just reject it, I'll fix it and bring it back later. The guy at the counter said when I come back it'll be $1 to reinspect it and that I will have priority over others in line. I went home and fixed everything (in a shorter time that it took for them to do the initial inspection, mind you), brought it back up there, and was told it would be another 45 minutes to an hour. I said thank you and left because I was not going to spend another hour+ there. I waited for my husband to get home and then went back and dropped my car off. I got a call, went to pick it up and when I went to pay, the guy said "You know, you don't have to be so impatient." And at this point I was completely done with this guy. I told him I sat there for over an hour when I was told 15 to 20 mintues with no complaints, and that they should give a better time frame to their customers. He said they base it off of the cars in front of you. I pointed out that there were no other cars there, the bay was empty, and that they should have just told me how long it was going to take in the first place. During this exchange he picks up his cell phone and just brushes me off. I left and obviously will never be returning. My issue is not necessarily the time that it took, but the fact that I was lied to about it and that you could plainly see that no one cared. I have never heard of a place where this is acceptable behavior and I know that if I were to treat a customer that way, I would lose my job. read more
