Feijoada Review! Lunch at The Tushar Brazilian experience was decent. I had high expectations, but the food was just okay. I didn't care much for the little salad that came with the dish, there was little to no farofa(toasted cassava flour) or vinagrete(A.KA. pico de Gallo) for the amount of beans you're served. I also wish there was more rice. At the end of the meal I was left with a ton of beans left. There was also a good amount of broken up bay leaves in my feijoada. Service was decent, I definitely understand being understaffed as I've worked in the restaurant industry in the past. The restaurant looked clean and organized. I am sure Tushar has other great dishes on their menu, but the feijoada was not my favorite. Places like Pitada and Delicatto definitely deliver bolder Feijoada flavors in my opinion. read more

My daughter got invited to a birthday party recently where these delicious tiny pizza-like morsels were served. She never eats and is basically surviving on air and fruit snacks, so when she ate 4 of them, I was shocked and had to find out what they were and where they came from. The mom told me they were from Tushar, which I had seen before passing by but had never had the pleasure of visiting. I was surprised I had never heard of esfihas before, but so glad I did! The kind man at the counter at Tushar explained to us that Esfihas are popular in Brazil, but originally are Lebanese. Wherever they come from, we love them. The fresh dough is the best part, and that alone makes me so excited to go back and try their full size pizzas. The cheese is out of this world, and these were a huge hit with the kids. I REALLY wanted to like this place-because I love Brazilian food and the idea of having a quick fix was appealing to me. The menu offers a wide array of my favorites, so I thought this might be a perfect substitute from the more formal affair of the buffet/tableside service of some of the other places. Unfortunately, it turned out to be an incredible disappointment. The young man at the counter was friendly and offered some suggestions when we told him it was our first time in. We got a good assortment of items so we could try them all. My meal came out about 10 minutes later-and everything was cold. Not just lukewarm, but so cold I had to gag it down. Another ten minutes and my wife's food arrived-everything also cold with the exception of the bananas-those were steaming hot. I assume that everything else was already made, plated and waited for the bananas to be ready. The discrepancy of temperatures was a deal breaker. The meat was mostly flavorless, but the veggies tasted good-despite them obviously being out for a long time. However, we didn't finish most of our food. Tushar Brazilian Express was good. I got the beef skewer meal that came with two sides. Their fried bananas are fantastic and are definitely worth getting as a side. The french fries are terrible and I wish I had gotten the mashed potatoes instead. The flan is so so. Be forewarned that sometimes they have DJs performing on the weekend and they expect you to pay a cover charge. Even if you're just there to get food. Next time I think I need to try the beef churrasco or feijoada. read more

The best parts about this place? Good food and most of the menu is gluten free (including gravy). The few things not gluten free are clearly marked on the menu. Skewers come in beef, chicken, pork, pineapple, and fried cheese Meat skewers are tender. Definitely order the black beans and rice as a side. The appetizers are worth exploring as well. I always pay for an extra skewer to get the grilled pineapple with my pork. The gluten free cheese rolls are a must. Service is quick. I had high hopes for this place, but it fell far short. The food is disappointing--overpriced, lacking flavor, and thrown together without any care. I arrived as one of the first lunch guests, and it was already filthy--tables were dirty, and it looked like the place hadn't been properly cleaned in ages. The dish I ordered was barely put together, with shredded chicken simply doused in hot sauce. There's no passion here, just a quick, low-effort attempt to make money. This review is for my experience several months back. My friend and I stopped by here for late lunch while in SLC for a short trip. We had come at an odd hour where it was way past lunch but too early for dinner, so our service was pretty quick! Our server was very patient in helping us with recommendations and answering our questions about the Brazilian soda! We ended up ordering the Brazilian cheese roll and and Brazilian soda. The soda has a unique taste like almost a cherry Sprite. I really liked it. The cheese rolls were also very good - savory and cheesy goodness. Now for the main course, we ordered one glazed pork and one grilled beef skewer. For sides we ordered salad, masked potatoes, and fried bananas. We both thought the glazed pork tasted better even though both meats were. The fried bananas were good as well and not overly greasy. Both the mashed potatoes and salad tasted pretty standard. Overall, I would recommend this place for a quick lunch, but if you're looking for a Brazilian experience, this place is not for that. read more

(Mashed potatoes, fries, steam vegetables, brown or white rice, fried bananas.) You order at the counter and they bring you your food. We went on a Thursday night and the place was empty. We still had to wait a bit for our food, to the point where my youngest was getting hangry. I had the grill pork, brown rice, steamed vegetables and fries bananas. (Love the fries bananas- definitely worth getting). I have eaten here before and loved the pork, tonight it was on the verge of being too dry. The kids meal is a kabob and one side. My take on Brazilian food at Tushar is not great, nor is it bad. I had buffet style eating for an event that was held in restaurant. It is casual walk up to order type restaurant, similar to Rumbi as far as the layout and order process. They have menu's on the wall as you walk up to order, so ordering is fairly easy. The staff was very friendly but not attentive, the ambience is nice and the food is just okay. I have ate my fair share of Brazilian and Tushar did not stand out to me. read more

That said this is good if you want something quick and unusual - Brazilian - and value is your thing rather than buffets. Great: coxinha, friend banana, pastel, most meats esp glazed pork, steamed veggies side Could be better: family meal comes with huge sides but only 4 skewers and our kids finished them way quickly. Sometimes I forget how amazing this place is until I come back. The owner is always so friendly and accommodating. The food is awesome. We love the cheese rolls and the fries bananas and fried pineapple. The grilled skewers are delicious and I recommend the beef above the rest. I have also tried the juice and the dessert and it's all terrific. I also love that I can have Brazilian food without spending an arm and a leg at one of the Churrascerias. They also offer free kids meals on Tuesdays. The dining area is clean and there's ample space to sit. Do yourself a favor and come eat here. read more

We came here with a party of 10 without a reservation, and we were served our food very quickly. The people working here are amazing, very kind, and generous. They brought us extra food to try and taught us about their culture, which made the experience very unforgettable and unique. There was one man in particular; I didn't get his name, but he seemed like a manager and wore a blue shirt, but he was amazing. It was definitely an amazing experience, and the food was delicious! Not sure I can say enough good things about this establishment. Have eaten here several times and the food is impeccably delicious. It's a refreshing difference from other Brazilian restaurants. What sets it apart are the savory, highly cultivated flavors of all the dishes. The skewers are all amazing, though I'm partial to the glazed pork. The grilled pineapple is mouth-wateringly amazing. We also really enjoyed the onion steak (though didn't need to finish all the onions). The steamed veggies have really great seasoning and a good variety. The mashed potatoes are chunky and flavorful. The portions were large, and the roasted chicken came with a great tasting sauce with a little spice. The food was delicious and it came out quickly. However, the food was very underwhelming. The chicken kebabs were OK, salted and griddled. The beef kabobs were from a low quality of meat, lots of gristle, lacked flavor and severely overcooked. I am going to start this with a bit of a disclaimer. I am rating this based on my experience with Brazilian food, both churrascaria (like Rodizio) and sit down and not as a counter service restaurant. Taking that in mind, you might consider this a four star review when you consider it is more like upscale fast food than the traditional sit down or buffet/meat market Brazilian. Place is typical of the non-fast food counter service. The door leads you to a queue where there is a huge menu you can look at while you wait. You walk up and give you order, pay, and then sit down if you are staying and wait for the food. The menu is in English, so I had to think about my order a bit. As an example, they have "cheese bread" instead of "Pão de Queijo" on the menu. This had me feeling the cuisine was likely a bit Americanized (if I can use that word as Brazil is in America - United Statized just does not work). I tried the recommended onion steak. I feel it is a bit overcooked, but it had a nice flavor. I did not get the "dry" that some reviewers have commented, but it is steak and not pork or chicken, both of which are far easier to mess up. For side, I chose the black beans, which were tasty, a salad (who can mess up a salad?) and the fried bananas. Tushar is near the client office and I would gladly go back for another round to have some variety. I would not choose it over some of the Brazilian places I have visited elsewhere (Sao Paulo in Austin, as an example), but the food does not rank in my "never visit again" category or even in my "I have tried it, so no need going back" category. If you are curious whether or not you should try Tushar, I would say it is worth a visit. The food has a good deal of authenticity, although it is a bit catered to the western palette. I found most things tasty and did not have the experience some have. But I don't see this as much more than average, based on my experiences. Once again, you can treat this as four star for SLC area, if that works better for you. ;-) read more

We tried Tushar during their soft opening, they are working out some kinks but nothing major. My wife and I both had the Brazilian Special for $6.95 which includes a marinated chicken kabob, rice, beans and a green salad, we both enjoyed our meals very much. We also ordered the Brazilian Cheese Rolls that were very tasty and fresh out of the oven hot, gluten free if your watching that. Went for a quick lunch and ordered the chicken skewer meal with three sides. I was really hungry and added a medium-rare beef skewer for an extra 2.50. The three sides I got were brown rice, fried banana, and mashed potatoes. Fried bananas were soft and sweet. Mashed potatoes were really really good. Between the chicken and beef skewer, I preferred the beef because it was more juicy. Service was excellent, lighting was darker, and the restaurant itself was very clean. Total with a drink was just under $15 so I'd say give value 3.5 stars but quality of meal 4.5 stars. Next time, I'd like to try the pork skewers along one of their specialty drinks which looks delicious. read more
