SO disappointing! I hate writing negatively about someone's business, but this one was just so impactful that I have to share my thoughts. I've been coming here off and on for a while and it's gotten progressively worse. After last night, I'll never go back - I literally give up on this place. They changed the menu (yet again). My friends and I wanted to sit in the main dining room, but decided we would sit outside, which was a little more lively since the main dining room is practically empty. We were handed the menu and I thought it was the bar menu which I never liked because it was just filled with unhealthy food. We were told that the chef changed the menu so we had to either order the prefix or the menu that we were holding. There were a couple of salads, but it was 95% fried food - there was multiple dishes that featured tater tots as the main sustenance. It was complete junk. I don't know what adult want to eat this way. I wound up ordering a salad, which was OK, and soup which I really didn't want, and olives out of desperation. I don't know why they couldn't leave the menu the way it was before. I'm assuming there's something going on here financially and they're just trying desperately to make something work, but I will tell them this if they are reading this review: you can't sit adults down and give them options such as tater tots, sliders, and fried mushrooms as dinner options. My friends and I were both so disappointed in the menu we almost left but we were hungry so we stayed. Every time I've tried to voice my opinion about the menu to the staff members I've always gotten this glassy eyed look and a long explanation as to the chefs vision. Well, I guess his new vision is "baseball stadium fare" People just want delicious healthy food. I'm not even a vegan, but I would come to this restaurant because the old menu left me feeling OK. I could go out to eat but not feel like I was eating poorly. My advice would be to keep the menu paired down, but give more of a variety of healthy food (not all fried). I'm sure such a huge space is expensive and maybe that's just not the right size for this restaurant, but don't fill it up with a bunch of fried garbage and think that people will be OK with it. Was invited here for a happy hour with a client a month ago and we can not seem to stop revisiting. This spot seems to be the answer to everything. Casual happy hour? Twelvemonth. Fun group dinner? Twelvemonth. Date night? Twelvemonth. Quick drink at a bar? Twelvemonth. Private team dinner? Twelvemonth. This restaurant does it all...well, does it all as long as one is ok with plant-based cuisine, and really that should not stop you as no one I've brought and I am not labeled vegetarian. The guy who invited me in fact was in the business of high end meat sales, that should count for something. To sum it up, someone poured $millions into the old Steelhead spot and the space is absolutely gorgeous. It is a feast for the eyes from the rafters to the floors. Not an inch was missed. The food is inventive, and delightful. A plate full of yummy. But everything was delivered with familiar themes, and plays with one's understanding of Californian or American cuisine. I was honestly disappointed in this place. Though I'm not vegetarian or vegan, I love trying new vegan places, and I'd heard a lot about this place for its ambiance and its food. I love that they've made it into a beautiful, top-service experience. The waiter was clearly extremely knowledgeable about the food, the ingredients, and he delivered a great experience overall to our table (of myself, my fiance, and my new sister-in-law in town visiting). The decor is beautifully-done with high ceilings and lots of greenery. However, I wasn't as impressed with the food. It felt over-priced (though I do know good ingredients aren't cheap) and lacked the flavor I was looking for. Would have loved a delicious salad, and some of the entrees felt like they just had sauce covering it to provide flavor. Recommend trying this place, but can't say I'll be back soon. read more

Had a wonderful meal at Twelvemonth during their soft opening phase. The space, food/drinks, and service are all incredible! The food is all plant based, and delicious. We had the celery root creme brulee (a must - savory and sweet), creamed kale (good flavor, though our least favorite of what we got), parker rolls (with some plant based butter that was to die for), tagliatelle (delicious, peppery, and filling while still feeling light), and the fried cookie dough balls (very unique, and obviously tasty). The drinks were also great - we had the Shasta Daisy (tequila / citrus / cinnamon), Nimble Leaf (gin / basil / guava), and Deep Roots (mezcal / ginger / grapefruit). The space is beautiful and was completely redone. Watch for all the details - much of the interior was custom designed, like the lights. Excited to have another restaurant with great food, great vibes, and modern cocktails in the area, especially with such a beautiful outdoor area. I wanted to love this place. But it fell short of our expectations especially given the pricing. Not great: - parking awful (tho I don't blame the restaurant for this) - slow service - we tried to get the Mac n cheese and were told that it was available only on the bar side, only to see it was later available on the kids menu (I wish they could have made an exception - my partner isn't fond of most vegan dishes and knew that was one he would like) - we asked for a coke and we basically got ice with some coke. And despite drinking it all in two sips we couldn't get a timely refill because of slow service We decided to not do dessert here because of all of these issues. We are eager to try out the other vegan restaurants in the Bay. Still got a 4 star because they are dog friendly which I really appreciate. read more

( easy profits) While the place has lots of potential there are several areas of development as they go through early phase: 1- Staff were very nice and tentative but there is opportunity for deep training on menu items including at least beer and wine. 2- not sure about business model and long / short term vision but with the attributes of this establishment, Twelvemonth can create a long lasting buzz and be the go to place in community if the offerings and value proposition are tweaked with that in mind. We, a group of 4, were turned away at the restaurant as we did not have a reservation - it was okay as we thought we'd take a chance and we were open to other options which are many in this Burlingame Avenue neighborhood - what wasn't so okay was how the message was conveyed. (Mental note & observation : early at 5:30pm the dining room had many empty tables and oddly when we passed by later on, the restaurant still appeared 30-40% empty- perhaps met with no shows? It's Friday night.) We weren't born yesterday so It's totally understandable to say one needs a reservation to walk-ins but it's odd that instead of sounding apologetic or appreciative for the effort , we received this attitude of almost somber snootiness as though the restaurant took pride in exclusivity - no smiles no charm - not welcoming- for restaurant greeters. Still open to try out a new place, we get a table outside of the bar - not at the low couch seats with pebble centered table pictured but a regular height table to order from the bar menu which was very limited after trying most all offerings. So we ask to order from the restaurant's menu appetizers. The manager was called to deliver the message- NO - with an explanation that due to the type of table we are seated which creates awkwardness ? they cannot accommodate orders off the restaurant appetizers menu. We mentioned we pretty much tried all that we fancied on the limited bar menu- case in point, we ordered double Maitake fries and 3 others- 2 rounds repeated - and with no accommodation to order from the restaurant's appetizer menu, we were done. We want to support and celebrate eateries who value their patrons and reflect that through a show of their warm hospitality. This place, while the hardware - the decor- the shiny bar - is stylish, it is in no way Cheers kind of place. That said, the bar waiters were friendly and doing their best to accommodate, unlike the bouncers? ! at the restaurant entrance. The ultimate verdict is not out until we try the restaurant. We ask ourselves however, do we really want to make that reservation as the unpleasant exclusive attitude we encountered was such a turnoff? Nonetheless the crispy maitaki mushrooms and kbbq tater tots were flavorful and delicious. The drinks were great too. However, 2 days later, my husband noticed that there was an extra charge on his credit card statement. We paid cash tip and someone had wrote in an additional 18% tip on our check. We couldn't tell you how upsetting it was. We reached out to the restaurant and the manager did refund my husband for the tip. Last Friday we dined at this plant based restaurant with my daughters for the first time. Our reservation was at 11 am. When we walked in the restaurant, I liked the ambiance of the restaurant already and it's large. They have a few private rooms for private parties and the furnitures are set up elegantly. High ceiling and with live tall trees in the dining room. Walls have nice decors. The gender restroom is like you are in a 5 star hotel. We saw on the counter they have the displayed baked pastries on a tray from breakfast and we ordered focaccias to go. Shortly the focaccias were handed to us already in brown bags separately before our order. We saw the lunch menu but it did not have many selections. The server recommended some of the favorites. We enjoyed the roasted beets mostly. I had lamb gyro and kind of dry but tasted good when dipped in tzatziki sauce; the burger was good; had the yummy tater tots; we had added chicken on Squashio E Pepe pasta and it was just okay. The server recommended the Jaguar Rose for my cocktail and it was refreshing. My daughter had Sling Blade drink and she liked it. I am not a vegan person but I recommend this restaurant to vegan eaters. This was quite a good experience eating vegan food but I may not come back. read more

Spacious and well-decorated restaurant in a great location in downtown Burlingame!!! Great for large groups. I came here for lunch and enjoyed my banh mi, but next time I'll probably try the fried chicken sandwich! Above and beyond amazing. My best friend really wanted to go here for her birthday supper. She lives past Sacramento so it's quite the trek. I reserved a table for us and our girlfriends and requested patio seating. They responded quickly saying they couldn't guarantee it as it was weather dependent. But they also have a reservation cancelation policy where if you don't cancel more than 24 hours in advance, you are charged a fee. I get it - it's a really nice place and they are trying to plan accordingly and they are pretty busy. We only wanted outdoor dining as we are still Covid conscious (I'm immunocompromised) and after some back and forth they said they would waive the fee if they weren't able to accommodate our outdoor seating. After glorious weather all week, it of course rained the day she came. They called us a couple of hours before our reservation to let us know unfortunately they couldn't accommodate outdoor seating but were kind enough to offer our own private room. The service all night was nothing short of amazing, including bringing my friend a dessert to celebrate her day. The food was amazing too! This might be one of the most beautiful restaurants I've ever been to. Neither my boyfriend or I are vegans or vegetarians by any stretch but we always love our food here and don't feel like we are missing out. Even if you aren't vegan you will enjoy your meal! The drinks are really great and it's an amazing date night spot. We love the mushroom appetizer and find ourselves craving it often. The staff are super friendly and helpful if you're unsure or unfamiliar with the menu. A bit pricy but we never feel like our meal wasn't worth the cost. Food came out at the pace we requested and because we could see the kitchen, we knew it was also freshly prepared! Finally got around to coming back here for date night on Tuesday, November 8! It was packed inside but we didn't wait for a table at all, despite having no reservation. We got the grilled carrots, baby boule, and pear curry (my favorite items) once again. Everything was full of flavor and crafted very well. Easy +4 stars for ambiance, timeliness, taste, delivery, and execution. Unfortunately though, I do have to dock one star for last night's experience, as the service was very odd. I felt like our waiter was pretty cold. For our first experience we had Michael who was very adept at the menu and helping steer us to greatness with lots of hearty recommendations. For one I'm not sure who our waiter even was last night as he did not introduce himself or talk to us at all. We ordered and asked a few questions but he just did not seem interested in helping us. I looked at the other tables in our section and they seemed pretty left alone too. For example the table next to us had some questions and he also did not seem very interested in speaking to them so I didn't take it that personally... But I guarantee you we would have spent a lot more had he spoken to us and sold us on certain items, and we would have had room for dessert... Even when we paid it just felt like he wasn't interested, just showed us the Toast handheld . We left a 22% tip anyway in the hopes that it goes to servers who actually are passionate about vegan food and Twelvemonth as a whole (as the restaurant deserves). read more

Twelvemonth is absolutely gorgeous. There were separate restaurant, bar, and outdoor seating areas, and each of these was decorated with elegant, forest-like decor and a green-colored theme. The high-end restaurant presented a 100% plant-based menu without fake meat products but instead with seasonal produce and ingredients. From the Bakehouse Provisions, we started with the Cornbread, two pieces of corn-shaped bread made with pleasantly gritty cornmeal and corn kernels, served with an airy, whipped salted "maple cornbucha" butter; and the Warm Pretzel, a crusty, log-shaped pretzel served with fondue (non-convincing vegan cheese) and stone ground mustard. Next, we had the Crispy Maitake Mushrooms, coated in a crispy batter and served with an umami whipped ranch dressing for dipping. For our mains, the Stone Fruit Curry was a watery Thai curry made with green beans, greens, and plum slices, topped with a cherry nam prik pao (chili jam) for a hint of spice; the Campanelle were ruffled pastas in a sweet, creamy corn sauce (maque choux) with corn and peppers, topped with vegan feta and crunchy cajun spiced corn nuts; and the Tamales were made of blue corn masa and were topped with smoked oyster mushrooms and a creamy Carolina Gold BBQ sauce, all over a bed of collard greens. All of the dishes were tasty and came in decent portions, though they were definitely pricey and nothing all that spectacular. Used this time to enjoy their outdoor patio and ordered a few drinks and appetizers. Love the concept their menu changes with ingredients in season. I went to the bakery on California. It was very hard to find as the restaurant for actual dining is on Lornton. If I did not know they had a bakery I would have never found it. Service is fabulous, I never feel rushed here which I love because the decor(inside and outside) is gorgeous and inviting. They recently opened their bakery which I foolishly tried and now frequent more than I should. Never would have thought that I would enjoyed vegetarian/vegan meal but I was surprised how much I actually liked the food. I consider myself as a carnivore but surprisingly I think twelve month was worth a try at least once. The interior and exterior are just mind blowing, I never thought I would take a photo of their bathroom because of how beautiful and magnificent it is for being a restaurant.
