Twist is the BEST gluten-free bakery I have tried in New England and NYC. I have been to 4 gluten-free bakeries and this one takes the cake, quite literally. If you need to eat gluten-free, it is better than a lot of gluten-full bakeries I have been to. Yelp, please don't delete the positive part of this comment. I reviewed Twist before on Yelp and I give it 5 stars. I am dismayed that Yelp removed my genuine review along with several other reviews. Their software algorithm must have thought my review was self-promotion by Twist. It was NOT. I am disappointed that my review (my first ever on any website) was removed. Kathryn and her team are wonderful and they are always so polite I would highly recommend them and I encourage anyone ago needs to follow a gluten free diet to visit them! The food at Twist Bakery is a nice surprise for a small town like Millis due to the specificity of the food-related allergies it adheres to. They have a wide variety of gluten-free/soy free options and the brownies and cupcakes that I've sampled have been quite good. My main gripe with Twist is the atmosphere, which doesn't present itself to be warm and inviting. This is created by the almost industrial feel of its design, which only serves to complement the equally cold feel from the employees. Although I like the food, I don't get a sense of hospitality when I walk into Twist. I either feel badgered to buy something or stared at indignantly if I'm taking too long browsing the display case. There is a lot to choose from, yet instead of recommending anything or being helpful in making a decision (which is hard considering the type of food I'm not particularly familiar with), I feel as though I'm being judged. I also tried to strike up a conversation once only to be received by a harsh old woman who had the attitude that convinced me she favored her time elsewhere. My wife is allergic to gluten and dairy, so we were very excited when we found Twist. I can eat wheat and dairy, and still love this place. Here's why: -Breakfast: Excellent place to go for breakfast on the weekend. Really good stuff. -Rolls: Their rolls (with or without poppy seeds) are the best GF bread I have ever tasted. -Service: They people behind the counter are always nice and helpful. -Cakes: We bought a cake for my Mom's birthday. Yes it was $60, which is expensive for a cake. It was worth it though because my wife could eat it and everyone loved it (my Mom who loves carrot cake said it's one of the best she's had). -Catering: We had Twist cater a baby shower and they did an amazing job with the food and the cake. Overall: I've been there dozens of times and have never had a bad experiences. I LOVE this place! I was recently put on a Low FODMAP diet by my doctor which basically means eating foods that are made from scratch without lots of additives and that don't contain things like gluten, lactose, fructose, corn syrup, honey, garlic, onion, and many other things. Lately eating out at restaurants for me consistents of super plain items like plain chicken, steamed veggies and plain baked potato for dinner or eggs with vegetables for breakfast. A friend of my husband's told us about Twist and I first went this past Friday. The egg sandwich was fantastic--I couldn't believe how good the gluten free bun was. My daughter was with me and she had a corn muffin which I tried. It was delicious! When I told the employee at the counter that I wanted to be able to buy some baked goods but needed to know the exact ingredients, he let me look through an ingredient book that listed each item that they make and all of the ingredients. When there were one or two listings that said, "spices," the employee went back to the kitchen and asked and came back and told me exactly what they were, very confidently. It was so nice to be able to see the ingredient list myself and to have this employee really understand why I needed to know more. I am used to going to restaurants and feeling like my questions about contents of items are annoying to employees or that their responses are not very reliable. While there are some items that I can't eat (particularly many of the lunch/dinner items because of the onion, garlic or honey), I was able to find a reasonable number of things that I could eat, which was amazing. It is so nice to have choices at a restaurant again and to be able to eat things that have flavor and aren't super plain. I bought some corn muffins, cinnamon rolls, a vanilla cupcake and some rolls and all are fantastic. My kids love the vanilla cupcake and don't realize it is gluten free. I also bought some breadcrumbs to cook with at home but haven't tried them yet. We went back today for mothers day and had eggs sandwiches, french toast, and a grilled cheese with bacon for the girls. My husband had buffalo chicken sandwich (which I couldn't try because of the honey). But the french toast was great and the kids were happy with their grilled cheeses. They also gave all of the moms a stem of flowers wrapped in cellophane and tied with ribbon which was really nice and very thoughtful. Clearly they care about their customers and the experience. I will definitely be back to Twist very soon! I have to be careful when I go in here...or they will end up with my entire paycheck! I have tried MANY things on their menu, and I can say, except for one cupcake I have enjoyed EVERYTHING!!! Things are pricey, but well worth every penny. Pumpkin bread with it's thick layer of icing and the mac and cheese top the list of my favs. It is so nice having a place like this...where I can actually eat the food, without worrying if I will get sick later. Twist is amazing! Every time I go, the staff greets me warmly, and each person behind the counter is very knowledgable about food allergies and makes great menu recommendations! The staff is very attentive and friendly. Twist has many regular customers like me due to their warm ambiance and delicious options! However, if you are looking to be in and out in 5 minutes, try McDonalds!! I read reviews about people being frustrated about the wait, and that is ridiculous - this is a restaurant, not a fast food joint. Twist is an allergy friendly bakery/cafe - a nicer version of Panera - so there is a little wait for your food, which is to be expected as it your meal is being custom made for you by excellent chefs! Slow down, people, and enjoy your food! Also - whether or not you have adopted a gluten-free lifestyle, the food is delicious. You cannot taste the difference! We have been going to Twist for almost a year. Staff is always friendly and hard working. The manager Jay is great. No matter how busy he is, he is always very welcoming to all the guests. Food isn't as consistent as it used to be though. We were just in last Saturday afternoon and though a lot of people were coming in for pastries, our lunch took over 20 minutes for our cold salads and sandwiches. The manager noticed our food was taking awhile, so he stopped what he was doing, came over to apologize and delivered the food himself. In fact, he bought us some cookies and my daughter a cupcake because of the wait. I work in a restaurant, so I know how things go but these past few months, it seems like the kitchen has gotten slower, with more errors to our orders. We come back to Twist because of the enjoyable staff and professional manager. You can tell they are trained in the aspects of customer service. Recently had their cake at an event and it was delicious. As a family with multiple allergies, they certainly had the makings of a long time customer. Unfortunately, when I called to place an order for a birthday cake I was turned away because of Easter orders. After this experience, I will not attempt to use Twist again. I am newly diagnosed with Celiac & love pastries, so this made me very sad. I have been searching for gluten-free bakeries because a traditional bakery making gluten-free food is not guaranteed to be gluten-free. I went out of my way to try Twist this week because it is National Teacher Appreciation Week & I wanted to get some muffins for one of my daughter's teachers who is gluten intolerant. The worst bread ever. When I got it home and found it extremely moist and even more so on the bottom I called to question it and they said sometimes it is left i the pan too long and moisture forms but would not let me return it for another loaf. This place is FABULOUS! I stopped in to check it out without realizing they're completely gluten-free. It was a great surprise to learn that my gluten-free family members can eat here too. Not only is there baked goods assortment impressive, but they serve prepared foods that all look really delicious. I bought a few cupcakes, muffins and some chicken cacciatore. Everything was amazingly tasty. Not only were the cupcakes and muffins unbelievably good considering they were gluten-free, but they were better than the products at any of the other bakeries in the area. Impressive. The chicken cacciatore was out of this world. I literally liked the container clean. The chicken was moist and the gf pasta was the best I've ever tasted. So excited to find a bakery that specializes in gluten-free and also dairy-free options. The owner is very friendly and willing to engage in conversation, need I say brag, about the variety of items that he offers. Unfortunately some of the items are not as wonderful as expected. The strawberry cupcake was overly sweet, so much so that it could not be finished. The bread puddings look inviting, but are not very good. The prices are kinda high, and I find much of the products cannot be eaten....too bad. I had high expectations. Today is my birthday and I got cake in bed first thing. Lucky me- my family is the best!!!! Unfortunately the cake needed a saw to cut it and was as hard as a rock :( In fact, it was so hard to cut that each piece was ruined! While eating it, the cake was so sugary that in combination with the frosting, we were all ready to go into diabetic shock. It looked so pretty uncut. Muted fall colors, flecks of vanilla bean in the off white frosting- just beautiful! I had such high hopes *sigh*. My daughter has been allergic to egg, soy, wheat and dairy (among other things) for years- recently we added oat to the list. But I have always been able to make a good cake and Pamela's makes a good mix for when we need to whip up a cake quickly. Last year, for my daughter's 13th birthday we ordered a cake from Treat in Needham. It was spectacular- you can Yelp my review. Which is why, after cutting into the cardboard cake, I wondered why my husband would have selected another bakery. He said the reviews were good for Twist so he thought he'd give it a try. Maybe the food (as opposed to baked goods) is delicious. My husband picked up some english muffins for our daughter (they look more like scones) and she will try them tomorrow. It's hard to get it right with so many allergies- but there are places that can do it. In Boynton Beach, FLA, there is a bakery- Joey's- that does a phenomenal job with breads, focaccias and sweets. The aforementioned Treat in Needham does a great job with cake, although we haven't tried anything else there. read more

I tried Twist today and was pleasantly surprised. Not only are there a range of really great baked goods, there are also gluten-free meals. We got several items and shared them. We tried the mini quiches, lasagna, and the meat loaf. Each was delicious and each had unique flavors. It was really well staffed, there were about 6-7 people working and everyone was really nice. I have tried other gluten-free stores and bakeries, and while I appreciate any place that sells gluten-free fresh items, Twist is by far the best I've tried! 5 stars from me and my family. We have been to twist many times. The food is good and fresh. Today I went with a group we had a cashier that was extremely slow I assume she was new. I order half soup and salad I asked if I could have chopped salad as the salad and she said yes. Our groups food came out sporadically the cupcakes first soup sandwiches all randomly. When my half salad came the waitress said in a condescending voice that they would just give me the chopped salad this time only and it was a huge waste of ingredients having to make a salad just for me! I was embarrassed and then I was mad if you go to panera they don't berate you for ordering something you had specifically asked if they do first! I spend most of my time in Cambridge where there's a high-quality restaurant every twenty feet, so when I'm visiting home I'm usually disappointed in the bakeries/cafes, but this makes me look forward to coming home! read more

I was going to a party where people had several dietary restrictions so i figured that i should play it safe and take dessert items from Twist. The baked items are somewhat $$ but worth every penny. I finally made it here over the weekend to pick up some things for my sister and I. I was glad I did. The apple tart is the best Gluten free baked good I've ever had. Cupcakes are a little sweet even for my sweet tooth (we got the mini ones) but you wouldn't eat cupcakes daily anyways so yummy treat. I had a beef enchilada that was fantastic. My sister has tried the chocolate chip muffin and the rolls and said they were both the best she has ever had. Prices are on the higher end but expected for GF food. They had lots of heat and eat dinners (chicken parm, meatballs, lasagna etc.), sandwiches, soups and salads which I didn't try but will another time. I did buy scones and muffins that I am told freeze just fine which made it easy to buy extra and freeze for later. Service was good. I was helped by a lady that was training and she was very nice. The other lady doing the training was also nice and helpful giving me a heads up about English muffins (made M,W,F only) and cinnamon rolls (weekends only). read more

absolutely amazing cafe!! the food is outstanding and doesn't even taste gluten free. even my non gf family members love it! the service is incredible as well. i ordered the wrong type of grilled cheese and drove home. an hour later i realized and drove back to twists five minutes before they closed (the grill had already closed). however, they reopened the grill to make me a new grilled cheese when it had been my mistake in the first place. they even gave me a free cookie :) all around great staff, awesome food, and exceptional service! read more

We were very pleased to find a nearby bakery featuring glutin free products, so we purchased some cupcakes for my wife who requires glutin free bread and baked goods. We served them for Mother's Day. Sadly for the Twist Café, the glutin free cupcake my grandson gave his grandmother from a Needham bakery won hands down as the better product. The reason was that the cupcake from the Twist Café was nearly one half frosting on a small cupcake, while my grandson's single cupcake was only about 10% frosting on a much larger cupcake. At $3.50 each, I think that the Twist Café would better serve its customers with a larger, not such a chincy size cupcake with less frosting. read more

I LOVE Twist and I go often. Their sandwiches, lemon loaf, breads, and pastries are all delicious. They make great meals for me, gifts or others, and even gluten-free pies to bring to holidays. The staff is always pleasant, and I would recommend this to anyone who is addressing a food sensitivities. Twist is SO good. My friends and I come and sit outside for brunch- so yummy, clean, and reasonable prices. The service is exceptional; today, they forgot to put bacon on my breakfast panini (I didn't even realize) and they brought out extra for me on a plate without me asking. So nice! The coffee is good, and all flavors are creative. Only complaint would be that portions for the breakfast sandwiches are a little small, or a side should be offered. But seriously the muffins, sandwiches, deserts, coffee- all great!! read more

It's great to be a GF bakery, but to request a week lead time on a cake is insane. Twist is definitely a treat for those folks that have an allergy. And good bakery products for GF folks are hard to find. I was thrilled to see my mom excited for her BDAY this year, b/c she could actually order a GF cake that tasted good from TWIST. However, when we called, they wanted a WEEK notice. We gave them 5 days. Give me a break. If you're going to cater to a GF clientle then do that!!!!! read more
