I honestly cannot review the meal since I didn't get to eat there. I made a reservation on Yelp and when I got to the restaurant they said they were closed for a private function. I think they should have communicated with Yelp much sooner to let Yelp know they weren't available, and I think the restaurant should have also monitored their system. I made the reservation 2 1/2 hours earlier. So when I was politely turned away and when somewhere else, I got a call at the end of my meal (90 minutes after the reservation) to say they were sorry but they had a private function. It wasn't an automated message but from the very guy I spoke with earlier. I've heard good things about the restaurant but since I was only in Omaha for a business week, I won't have the opportunity to try it out. The business and Yelp need better communication. I'm not sure I can trust the system in the future and will probably have to call directly. read more

Some friends and I decided to give it a try on a Saturday night a few weeks ago. It was surprisingly not that busy for a Saturday night in May. We decided to sit outside since it was such a nice evening. Our waiter got our drink orders fairly quickly, but they took forever to get them out to us. We kind of felt as if we had been forgotten outside. We finally ordered, and decided to try the spinach & artichoke dip. It was pretty good, but different then one I had ever had before. But it was good! I ordered the Chicken Sandwich with waffle fries. It was pretty good, and looked fancy and all, but it wasn't anything special. My fries weren't seasoned very well, and were kind of bland. My husband ordered the open faced roast beef sandwich and he loved it. He raved about how good it was. I enjoy the Old Market, and it has a prime location and it was good seating outside. The menu isn't to large, so don't expect a huge list to chose from. However, they do have a fair range of things to pick from. The prices were a little more, but nothing outrageous. For the most part it was a pleasant experience, and I would like to give it another try to try a different entrée. It wasn't the best food I've ever had, but I think it's worth another try. read more

Twisted Fork: I'd like to nominate you for Food Network's "Restaurant Impossible" How is this dump STILL in business. I live a couple of blocks away from Twisted Fork so I will occasionally grab a carry-out order OR if every other Old Market restaurant is full, I will sometimes dine in. I went with friends this week and left wondering how Twisted Fork could possibly get any worse. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that the novelty of Chicken Fried Bacon dipped in Country Gravy has not worn off for me. I love to shock friends with this creative and typically delicious artery bursting appetizer. Twisted Fork brought the "C-Team" this visit for both service and food preparation. To cut to the chase, my bacon thoroughly sucked. It was extremely overcooked and not very well battered and our appetizer plates had crusted food on them so we just skipped plates. I thought about asking the server for new ones but I didn't want to challenge her any further. For entrees: my salad was not worth the price, it was some kind of mixed garbage tossed salad with a condensed portion of tasteless dressing. My friend's Caesar salad was average. The other person dining with us had a burger which he said wasn't too bad. Their secret ranch sauce is seriously ranch dip from the grocery store - probably "Our Family" brand. Our server had the personality of a sweaty gym sock but I guess I'm not surprised, why would anyone with talent want to work at Twisted Fork? There were a ton of open tables, the food is inconsistent and it took forever to get our drinks which were wrong and over-priced. I don't expect a server to memorize the entire beer list but maybe get a cheat sheet and don't act like it is an inconvenience if your customer wants to know what type of beer you carry. If someone orders a pint of Boulevard Wheat - it gets a freaking lemon - my 90 year old grandma even knows about the lemon! If someone orders a Dirty Martini, it shouldn't be sweet and please don't tell us you took it off the bill if you didn't. Also the men's bathroom always smells like sewage. I know smelly things happen in there but FIGURE IT OUT. I probably shouldn't assume the male manager uses the men's room but if he does, I'm sure he's observed the continuous overwhelming stench. I love the location and it has awesome brick floors with a bunch of character but I'm really excited for someone to open a better concept with more focus on their customers. read more

It was a busy weekend in Omaha over Presidents' Day weekend, but I'm pleased to say that this restaurant didn't disappoint us on Sunday. My daughters and I were in town for a very large 3-day volleyball tournament, and we definitely needed a place for some quiet relaxation and good food. The atmosphere of the restaurant was just what the doctor ordered, and so was the attentive service and delicious food. My daughters ordered the Cowboy Chicken Fried Steak and the Smokin' Club Grill (which I also ordered). The hand cut fries were top notch, the sandwiches were fresh, and the chicken fried steak plate was nearly licked clean! It was an early dinner around 5, so the restaurant wasn't overly packed but we hardly waited for our food even as the place started to fill up. Our server was attentive with drink pours, and kept the house red wine coming during happy hour. It was a great experience from start to finish! read more

I ate here a week ago or so . I was very skeptical at first( b/c of the hit or miss reviews), but my husband insisted that we give it a try...and I was pleasantly surprised. I couldnt decide on a salad ( which I am sure would have been pure torture to my taste buds since this place seems to focus more on meat than greens) a chicken sandwich with ginger spinach or salmon tacos. At the waiters recomendation (who was awesome) I chose the tacos and switched the rice for veggies. The tacos were actually good (soggy tortilla but the salmon was not fishy tasty and complimented by a tangy slaw) the beans were seasoned well and my favorite part was the big ass spear of broccoli that I got instead of rice!!!! Whenever I order a side of veggies somewhere they usually come straight out of Cisco bag and into the microwave before they hit my plate...but not this glorious and wonderful giant roasted spear of FRESH broccoli!!!!! I have been her four times now. I ordered the same thing every time. A club with waffle fries. The firs two times it was excellent. The third time not that good. The fourth time it was horrible. The fries were inedible. They tasted like they were left over from lunch. I informed the bartender and he did offer to make new ones which I did decline and he did comp a bloody mary. Love this place, my boyfriend and I come here when we just want a good, filling meal. We typically go a little later at night when it's not quite as busy and we can enjoy a relaxing evening. My boyfriend hasn't found a better a meatloaf than the one they serve here and with a few health modifications, I love the Club! Instead of fries I also order the Homemade Pickles and they are oh so good! We also always get the wings for an appetizer, incredibly flavorful and the meat comes right off the bone. Waited 30 minutes after ordering to be told they were out of the only thing I came here for -- roast beef. What took 30 minutes to figure that out? Opted for the chicken caesar sandwich instead. It was more overdressed than showing up at a McDonald's in a tux. This place was good. I would eat here again. Two of my kids ordered a kid's cheeseburger and they got a full size burger so they were nice and full. The burger was tasty too...my husband and i stole little bites off our kids' plates. :) The pear and apple cobbler a la mode was pretty good although i would have liked either a crust with it or a little more oats in it. I ordered the chicken pot pie which had toasted mashed potatoes on top. It was alright, not great, not bad, but the most disappointing for me was that there was no crust. My favorite part of pot pies is the flaky, buttery crust. All night I could taste it too, which reminded me of creamy mushroom soup mixed with mashed potatoes, and I did not care for that. But over all everything was pretty good, and there were other items on the menu that sounded interesting that I would try if I ever came back. The decor was fun...like cowboy chic or something. I have been to Twisted Fork twice in recent months and I have to say both times I was a disappointed. The first time we went was for lunch. We had the deep fried pickles for a starter, which were tasty but oily and hot, hot, hot. We both burnt our months. We both ended up having burgers that day and they were alright but nothing special. The second time we went here was for brunch. They had a fairly large brunch menu. We ended up ordering the chicken fried bacon for an app. which was not very good. It had no taste, which was weird. I had the egg sandwich which was also very bland, plus it had mayo on it which doesn't go well with egg in my opinion. Overall I'd say there are a lot better places in the Old Market area to eat. read more

Tonight I just was in shock at the visit to the point that I just wanted to leave as fast as possible. From the second we walked in the door I feel like we should have left. The gal that greeted us took us to our table. Mind you, there were only 3 tables inside that had guests sitting at them. She took us to a table right by the bar, where at the time 7 servers were congregated talking. My fiance almost couldn't even get in his chair because they were all standing there. I don't know why of all the table (I know you are likely on a rotation system) she sat us at that table. Adam immediately said "I don't want to be sitting in the middle of their hangout" and I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they wouldn't congregate when customers were sitting right there, but I was wrong about that. Our server Brett came over. Greeted us and asked us what we wanted to drink. He could tell we were looking at the menu but never once let us know some options, IE what do you have for soda's, what is Happy Hour Specials, any recommendations. He just stood their waiting for us to talk. I guess that is where my high standards come in. This is your opportunity to either upsale or inform the customers of some of your favorites. Try to connect with the table a little bit. We ordered our drinks and I said a Chard for a glass of wine. He came back with a red wine. After I told him I ordered a chard he remembered and got me the right one. Didn't take long at all but never apologized. We ordered a couple apps of the Happy Hour menu. He put the apps in and than stood at the Micro's or whatever computer system you have. In the meantime the servers were still making this their hang out. Which at this point really shot them in the foot. I sat and watched the brown haired girl that greeted us complain about her customers outside. Lots of eye rolls and comments. The bartended didn't once put a smile on her face and the two sat their and looked miserable. I never heard one positive comment come out of their mouths. At least our server wasn't complaining about customers, but I think we were the only table at that time that he had. That is what really made me upset was to sit their and listen to them and watch their body language about being at work. We than ordered, but again all he did was say "Are you ready" We watched another server go over details with a customer and maybe tell them specials. But we weren't told of any specials or again informed of some of his favorites or recommendations. I ordered the salmon and he ordered a burger. Again my high standards kicked in but when I ordered the salmon, it says seasonal veggies. At this point I wish Brett would have informed of what those veggies were, but he didn't. Adam ordered a burger with chips and at that point asked if the chips were made there and he said yes. Which maybe they are, but they didn't taste fresh like they would be made their . Our food came out very quick which is great, but not when 2 people had 2 apps in front of them. So now we had our dinner and still weren't halfway done with our apps. It would have been nice if he would have timed it so we weren't feeling so rushed. My rice on my salmon was amazing, the veggies were cold. Which green beans are tough sometimes which is why it would have been nice to know what they were. The salmon , all I could taste was the flavor of the grill and it seemed burned. Adams burger was good, but the chips tasted like something out of a bulk bag at Costco. He did stop and check to make sure everything was okay but at this point we again just wanted to leave. We felt rushed and frankly I didn't want to have to sit and watch or listen to the servers that were congregated at the bar. With the location of the bathroom several patrons tried to use it, I watched some of the servers cut off customers trying to go to the bathroom to get to the computer. The customer should have the right away or out of courtesy move for the customer. We got boxes for the food leftover since we wanted to go. By this point I was watching the rest of the servers. Several of the guys had a good attitude with their tables which was good. Brett didn't have a problem with a bad attitude but just didn't really bring anything to our dining visit. I watched him at the next table and you could tell the 4 of them were also first timers. Once again he asked what they wanted to drink and than stood their. Overall I was not happy. Maybe we should have sat outside but than we would have had the gal that was complaining about her tables outside. The place itself is so cute and cozy inside. I visited the Twisted Fork a few weeks ago, with my wife and another couple. We had a wonderful experience there, and all agreed the food and atmosphere were very enjoyable. We had Waffle Fries and the Chicken Fried Bacon for appetizers. They were both very good. The Fried Bacon was a brand new experience, and mixed with the country gravy as a dip, was delicious. The Waffle Fries were also very good. For our meal, I ate the Chicken Fried Steak and Mashed Potatoes. It was very, very good. The country gravy was savory, and a little sweet. The potatoes were mashed potatoes, very good and exactly what you expect mashed potatoes to taste like. I was entirely too full to try dessert, but look forward to going back and fixing that problem. I don't remember what the others in my party ate, but I know that we talked about how good it all was most of the way back home, and various times since. Our overall experience was outstanding, the server did a great job and was Very Professional. We had the pleasure of meeting Gabe (the General Manager) who was both engaging and entertaining. He talked to us for a little while, and made sure all our orders were up to our liking. I look forward to returning and have told numerous friends that this is a place worth visiting. If you like comfort food, do yourself a favor and give them a shot. I know I wasn't disappointed and don't think anyone else would be either. read more

Had the best overall dining experience I have had in a very long time last Saturday at the Twisted Fork in Omaha. Zach, our waiter, provided excellent service. I am not often surprised much anymore when dining out but last Saturday was an exception. The food was superb. I mean everything, from the Gouda Gravy Pork Chop, to the Hot Pepper Filet, to the Gouda Mac and Cheese. The food and the service surpassed all of our expectations. On top of everything else, the meals and drinks were extremely reasonable for the quality we received. Still dazed by such a great dining experience for such a reasonable price. YOU CAN'T MISS WITH THEIR GREAT MENU. Great location, great atmosphere, great service, and great menu! Old Market is a great neighborhood in Omaha, the Twisted Fork's atmosphere is updated and modern yet friendly and down-to-earth (call it 'modern west', maybe?), our servers were friendly, prompt, accurate (our waitress, Carolyn, took great care of us), and most impressive of all was the dinner menu. We had 15 people in our group and no one was unhappy with their meal. It's one of those menus where it's hard to choose! Pretty fair wine selection too. Perhaps the only (slight) disappointment was that the desserts didn't quite live up to the very good entrees. Everyone in our group was very happy - there was music playing to make it a fun time but not so loud that we couldn't have a conversation. read more

We were in town for the CWS and found ourselves starving for a great lunch! Walking past this very cool place, we checked out the menu posted outside and quickly went in! Unfortunately, looks can be very deceiving! Again, the place looked very hipster and had a cool vibe, but the food was atrocious! The appetizer was served with corn chips that you could physically bend without breaking, the burger (which was ordered to be cooked medium well) came out practically raw, the chicken salad was iceberg lettuce with grilled chicken that looked like it was grilled two weeks ago and had been kept in a ziplock baggy in the fridge all that time, and the salmon taco came out looking and tasting like catfood in a tortilla. Our plates were still full of the awful food when the waitress handed us the check. I would highly recommend that you do not eat here!! read more

I ordered the salmon filet that comes with an apricot sauce, grilled veggies and a mushroom risotto at a price close to $20. On the surface it sounds amazing, after all who doesn't like a nicely grilled filet paired with mushroom risotto. What was served to me was one of the greatest disappointments in food service industry. Ok maybe a little over dramatic. The salmon was cooked well however and was of a decent size but I couldn't taste the apricot sauce and overall flavor was bland. The quarter cup of grilled veggies was less then average, just bland and no seasoning. The salmon and veggies didn't really bother me too much but what did bother me was the risotto. Any half way decent chef knows that mushrooms risotto is made with butter, chicken broth, minced shallots or onion, parmesan, dry white wine or vermouth, and a touch of salt & pepper to taste. End result is a wonderfully creamy and savory item; well, that's what I was hoping for when the menu states "mushroom risotto". What I was served was mushrooms with water downed risotto rice. Literally the rice was pulled out of the rice cooker or pot and drained then plated with mushrooms added on top. Why not just say mushrooms and cooked white rice. That at least would be accurate to what is served and a lot less miss leading. It was by far and a way the worst risotto that I've ever had. I would imagine this restaurant does produce good quality and good tasting food in order to keep the locals coming back. For me, however, my first experience will be my last. read more

Absolute worst service I have ever experienced in a restaurant in my entire life. I wanted to try this place because I had read some positive reviews about it here on yelp and was disappointed within 5 minutes of walking in the door. Upon entering we were told by the hostesses that they "were not seating anyone" because they were "understaffed and trying to catch up from their lunch rush." This was at 3:30 in the afternoon. There were 2 tables seated in the entire restaurant and maybe 4 tables seated on the patio. I commented that I had never been to a restaurant where I wasnt even allowed to sit at one the many empty tables and have a drink. She then told us that we could go sit in the waiting area, which we did. We watched as several other couples came in to eat and were told the same thing and left to go eat elsewhere. Then 2 different groups of people (totaling 7 people) came in and were seated and served. By this point I asked to speak with the manager and explained my frustration in bring told we were not allowed to be seated and/or order a drink in a nearly empty restaurant and then 7 people were seated after us after we had waited nearly 20 minutes. He was very rude and standoffish and said "well I had to stop seating because we are understaffed" (keep in mind I saw 3 of their front end employees standing around laughing and socializing. I also brought up the fact that they seated 7 other people after us. He tried saying that they might have had reservations and I told him that I highly doubt people had "reservations" at the bar, as 3 of them were seated at the bar. We commented again that we had never been to a restaurant that had plenty of open tables that wouldn't let us sit and order a drink. The manager then rudely stated "well what do you want me to do? Buy you a drink?" After this we left. This was by far the most poorly conducted business operation I've seen in a restaurant, including the completely unprofessional, rude management. read more

Cool ambience, terrible food. I came back here yesterday after a rough experience several months back to give it a second chance, and I regret it. When we got there midafternoon for a beverage and some snacks to get us through a swampy summer day. There was one other party in the entire restaurant, and yet my party of 4 was seated right by the door, so that anyone who entered after us had to shuffle past us. Our server came by, introduced herself, and we asked for water while we reviewed the menu. Then she disappeared and 5 minutes later a different server came by, still with no water. We never saw the first server again and the second server was intermittent at best. Putting the spotty service aside, I was stunned that the appetizers we ordered were so bleak. The waffle fries had interesting seasonings but were lukewarm; the spinach artichoke tasted like neither spinach nor artichoke and was also, at best, lukewarm. I've learned my lesson and won't be giving this place a third chance. read more

This is a very mediocre restaurant with average food, decent beer, and poor service. When we walked in we waited at the door for several minutes, because no one was at the hostess stand. We were finally seated at a table surrounded by dirty, unbussed tables, when all of a sudden we felt water falling on us. The AC vents in the ceiling were dripping on us. The menu was very worn and falling apart, and had several crumbs of food stuck on it. Our waitress didn't come to the table for several minutes, but eventually took our order. She came back 10 minutes later to clarify the order, which clearly hadn't been placed yet. Our fried pickles were delivered to the table, and all of the breading immediately fell off, leaving a plate of slimy, oily hot pickles. The waitress then came back to ask "how our bacon appetizer was". She didn't pay enough attention to even remember or notice we were eating pickles not bacon. The sandwich ordered (egg and grilled cheese) was okay, but it came with fries that were just the broken off fried ends, and not actually edible French fries. We won't come back. There are several other places in the old market that are a lot better. read more

We were there on a Wednesday evening and asked to be seated outside. The food was good but not great. My wife had a BLT, the bacon was good but the large "hunk" of tomato had no flavor. I had the French Dip and it was good. The prime rib was lean and had good flavor. We both had the hand cut potatos which were fine. The most disappointing part of the meal was the service. I had an excellent week night meal at Twisted Fork despite misgivings in advance due to reading some of the negative comments from previous reviewers. My experience was great. I sat at the bar, received superb service (including a visit from the manager to ensure my food was ok), and I fully enjoyed my meal. I had the Stacked Tomato Salad and the Posole to start and both were outstanding. I then had the blackened Salmon Taco which was amazing. I had no room left for desert but I bet those were good too. Quick day trip to Omaha led me to pick a lunch spot in the Old Market area, based on reviews. Pros: great location, fun funky atmosphere, decent prices. Cons: food quality, cleanliness. The service was ok. I had their famous fried chicken salad. Unfortunately the salad was 90% lettuce, much of which was wilted with a few diced tomatoes. The chicken was average. Went in with a group for lunch and was very disappointed. First, we check inside asking if we may sit outside and then we sat around for a good ten minutes before anyone said anything to us. Several waitresses came out bringing waters and none of them introduced themselves as our waitress or asked if we had any questions. After about twenty minutes after sitting around again a waitress finally took our order and my mother specified no cheese on her burger because of her allergy. When the food finally arrived my mother's burger was covered in cheese and she told the waitress that she asked for no cheese and the waitress tells us very snappily that the burger is made with cheese inside it. I don't get why she wasn't told this from the beginning, then the waitress didn't attempt to get her another burger with no cheese or even offer another dish so my mother just sat there not eating anything. Very poor service will not be coming back or recommending to anyone. read more
