When we first arrived, the restaurant was not busy. Only a couple other tables occupied, so expectations were fairly high for a smooth experience. Unfortunately, things quickly went downhill. The food took quite a while to come out despite how slow it was. When it finally did, it was first delivered to the wrong table before eventually making its way to us. The food runner then randomly grabbed a ranch from our table and brought it to another table. He seemed potentially new, but overall the service felt very disorganized and clueless, especially considering the restaurant wasn't busy. We ordered the cheese curds to start, and they were disappointing. The breading was mushy and extremely greasy, and the cheese itself tasted low quality rather than the fresh curds you'd expect at a Wisconsin pub. We also ordered several wing flavors since they were on special: garlic parm, buffalo, bourbon BBQ, and lemon pepper. One issue right away was the lack of flavor variety overall on the menu. The wings themselves were inconsistent. Sizes varied dramatically, which clearly affected the cook quality. Some were fried so hard they were like chewing leather, while others had soggy, undercooked skin. Flavor wise the buffalo were almost completely flavorless. The lemon pepper was extremely mild. The garlic parm was probably the best of the group, though still just average. The bourbon BBQ was rough. The sauce tasted like an overly sweet, overly salty cheap jarred glaze rather than an actual house-made BBQ sauce. My wife ordered the Mary Mac burger without a bun and was told extra lettuce leaves could be substituted to make it a lettuce wrap. Instead, it came out with just shredded lettuce. The burger itself was overcooked and lacking flavor. The fries were decent enough, but nothing memorable. Overall, this felt like a place with potential that just missed the mark on both execution and consistency during our visit.

He asked for his burger to be cooked medium. The menu indicated his burger had onion spread on it. His burger was not cooked medium but well done. The onion spread was a "sauce overload" and not a pleasant addition to the melt. The cheese sticks were wrapped in a won ton wrap and deep fried. They were served with a marinara. The cheese sticks could have used some type of seasoning to give them flavor. Very bland. I had the fish fry special of fried perch. Mild fishy flavor and definitely frozen. Thin crumb breading that had some type of seasoning. I choose fries, coleslaw, and rye toast. The fries and toast were the best parts. I wanted tartar sauce for my fish but it was so sweet that it wasn't good with the fish. Service was fine. She needed to leave before us and asked if we wanted to close our ticket. We didn't plan on staying as we're traveling so we closed it out. Location was easy to find. Bar area was clean.

Both my older son and I thought this sounded amazing so we stopped in on a Friday night to try it. We both got fries for our side. The burger was great as expected. Breading and deep frying the lasagna helped prevent it from being a mess and they added enough marinara to give it flavor without overpowering anything. The fries were lightly salted, but were otherwise just boring, plain potato. Apparently 6pm on a Friday is a horrible time to visit Brazen Head Pub if you want to be seated in a reasonable timeframe. My son and I stood there for at least 20 minutes watching a table that was done eating and the gentleman and his credit card in hand, ready to pay if someone would ever stop and give him his bill. While this was going on, another couple at the bar finished their food and sat there for at least 10 minutes waiting for their check. It's almost as if the employees had no desire to turnover tables even with a line at the door including and behind us. There were three people bartending/waiting tables so they had plenty of coverage given the smaller size of the place. At one point, closer to the end of our meal, one of the bartenders looked at my son and I and asked "are you guys good?" as he was literally walking away from us and I was holding up an empty soda glass to show him I'd like a refill. Oddly, he gave me a thumbs up and kept going. I don't even know what to make of that other than poor service. The music that was playing was excessively loud. If it was a live band, I'd get it, that's part of the show and I wouldn't complain. For random music on speakers to drown out all conversations unless you're yelling, that's dumb.

And let me just say, if you like a good burger this (may be) the place for you. It's located on Main Street in West Bend. This area has gone through a real renaissance. The fixed up the street and sidewalks, have angled parking, and the lighting a nice. It's a real treat to be able to walk in this area of small shops and businesses. No stripmalls or big box stores. Very nice city planning! Came with a couple of friends, around 11:30. The Brazen Head Pub is one of many bars and restaurants in this area. This pub is pretty typical layout. It's long and narrow, a little dark (lighting and wood), has a long bar, and then a few high top tables. There is one larger table towards the rear that holds 6 people. Since there were 3 of us, we grabbed a high-top and stole a chair from the next table. (we had 4 people, not sure what we would have done). There was only one person (John) running all the table and managing the bar, and a couple of people in the small kitchen. John (our server) got to us after a short wait. Got our drinks and order placed right away. We ordered some Cheese Nuggets (white cheddar curds) and 3 different burgers. You can either "build your own" or order the standard "Brazen Head Beer Cheese Burger". The curds came out almost instantly. They were hot, with a side of ranch. They were good (not great, a little too much breading for my tastes). We waited a bit for the biggers, but they ended up being worth the wait. All were made perfectly to order, hot, lots of flavor, and very good portions. The Brazen Head Burger was tall, but manageable. The different elements were distinct and complementary. The cheese sauce had a big of a tang. The fries were okay, but could have been hotter. While we were there, the place filled up. Lots of other small groups, some at the long bar. With the additional people it got to be pretty noisy, to the point that it was hard to have a conversation. It didn't help that there was a speaker, right over the tables, with loud music. With only one person running all the tables, after our food came out, it was difficult to get our servers attention. Extra napkins and getting our check was a challenge. The experience was mixed. Definitely a place to get an amazing burger, cooked perfectly to order. However, the noise and the service (due to their popularity) was a bit lacking. And the Manhattan was the perfect complement--beautifully crafted and smooth without overpowering the meal. The steak tartare was a standout as well: rich, savory, and incredibly well balanced. A little hidden gem that manages to feel both rustic and elevated. Definitely a place I'd happily return to. Also, an honorable mention to our server. We really appreciated that our server was not overbearing with information, table touches or upselling, while still offering great service.
