    All-you-can-eat cod with potato pancakes
    Greg B.

Sometime between my last visit 11 months ago and when I stopped again two days ago, Cork 'N Barrel decided to no longer serve all-you-can-eat perch. Since that was the sole reason for my my recent visit, that didn't start my dinner off on the right foot. With all-you-can-eat perch no longer an option, I went with the all-you-can-eat cod. I'm sure perch may have been on the menu in a non-all-you-can-eat capacity, but I was hungry for more than just a couple of butterflies of perch by the time I got there. The cod itself was fine. Maybe a little on the salty side, but thankfully not quite as wet as most other places that serve fried cod. For what it was it was adequate, but certainly not worth driving out of your way like I did from Germantown, which was half an hour. The potato pancakes were a little burned on the bottom, but somehow didn't taste burned. Instead, they were very good plain and even better when dipped in syrup. The applesauce was on the bland side and wasn't worth using with the pancakes. Another annoyance was that in the bar area there were three TVs, two of which were off and one was playing classic rock music through the connected speaker system. Well not everyone may be a baseball fan, especially of the teams that were playing (Astros and Yankees), there was an elimination game in the American League Championship Series on during my visit. It seemed like an absolute waste to not be showing it even muted on one of the two TVs that were off. If you happen to find yourself in the middle of nowhere near Newburg, Cork 'N Barrel is not the worst place you could go for dinner. Don't bother driving out of your way to go there, though, now that the only thing that made them unique is gone.

Extremely NOISEY. Loud patrons at the bar made it difficult to enjoy dinner and carry on a conversation. Fish fry was very greasy.

Housed in what feels like a very old building, the dining room is unassuming with a bar along one side. Waubeka, the town in which STG sits, was the birthplace of Flag Day and the dining room was adorned in red, white, and blue (or it could be for July 4th but who knows). Service was quick. I opted for the fried walleyed with the german potato salad. My better half was in a pizza mood. We started off cheese filled breadsticks aka Stony Sticks-they were solid. The pizza probably suffered from almost too much cheese but did the trick. The stand out being the walleye. It was extremely tasty. Perfectly fried with a light breading, it was heavenly. The german potato salad was a step away from my grandmother's and thats saying alot. At $18, it was a great value. It's a 25 min drive away and well worth it. We will be back.

Both my older son and I thought this sounded amazing so we stopped in on a Friday night to try it. We both got fries for our side. The burger was great as expected. Breading and deep frying the lasagna helped prevent it from being a mess and they added enough marinara to give it flavor without overpowering anything. The fries were lightly salted, but were otherwise just boring, plain potato. Apparently 6pm on a Friday is a horrible time to visit Brazen Head Pub if you want to be seated in a reasonable timeframe. My son and I stood there for at least 20 minutes watching a table that was done eating and the gentleman and his credit card in hand, ready to pay if someone would ever stop and give him his bill. While this was going on, another couple at the bar finished their food and sat there for at least 10 minutes waiting for their check. It's almost as if the employees had no desire to turnover tables even with a line at the door including and behind us. There were three people bartending/waiting tables so they had plenty of coverage given the smaller size of the place. At one point, closer to the end of our meal, one of the bartenders looked at my son and I and asked "are you guys good?" as he was literally walking away from us and I was holding up an empty soda glass to show him I'd like a refill. Oddly, he gave me a thumbs up and kept going. I don't even know what to make of that other than poor service. The music that was playing was excessively loud. If it was a live band, I'd get it, that's part of the show and I wouldn't complain. For random music on speakers to drown out all conversations unless you're yelling, that's dumb.

I called in an order to go for a four piece cod dinner with seasoned waffle fries and cheese curds as an appetizer. Unlike so many other restaurants that serve crappy cornmeal breaded cheese curds that don't get crunchy and retain too much grease, the cheese curds at Nuckleheadz are true breaded cheese curds that get perfectly crunchy. I wish every every restaurant would serve the right kind like Nuckleheadz does, but I guess that's one of the things that makes Nuckleheadz special. Speaking of special, I LOVE it when the breading on fish has herbs and/or spices mixed in. It just gives the fish a little something extra. The herbs that Nuckleheadz puts in the batter they use on their cod (maybe their other fish too, I'm not sure) are phenomenal. I'm not usually big on cod, but I'm big on their cod because of it. Seasoned waffle fries are the king of all fries so that was a no-brainer. The weekly specials they post on social media often intrigue me and the hangover hash appetizer sounds fantastic (tater tots covered with bacon, nacho cheese, shredded cheese, and fried eggs), so I look forward to ordering that the next time I dine-in on a day that isn't Friday and I can't wait to get the fish fry again on a Friday with the best cheese curds around.

The bar/restaurant is located in the back of the house in what could be considered the basement. Still, this place is not divy. The beautiful wood interior makes this place feel very warm and cozy. When we went, they had a nice fire going in their outdoor fire pit, which made for a nice place to gather and enjoy the night air. We did not have any food from here, only cocktails, but the bar service was fairly quick, and the drinks were good.
