This is a unique spot in the Sunset and a good one, I might add, due to its shared space with the very popular Maillards Smash Burgers. We knew we would fare better trying both on a weekday rather than chance an impossible crowd on a weekend. It's safe to say that even at opening time on a Thursday at 4pm, the crowd was already moving in. (They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). The Sunset District is a well rounded, chill vibe neighborhood that is super family friendly and dog friendly, so it is no surprise that there were several families with babies (and when I say babies, that includes newborns) and dogs inside and out. I kept thinking of that line in the movie Sweet Home Alabama, "You have a baby! In a bar!" Lol My daughter and I aren't huge beer drinkers, but we do like to experience a variety especially when the place is fun, friendly, but best of all, in our neighborhood! I stood in line for Maillards while my daughter ordered a flight board ($20 for four 8 oz brews). The woman who took her order was super helpful in terms of explaining the available options, the flavors, etc. It really felt like she wanted us to have a good experience. The verdict? Clean Brewery with great food options. Highly recommend the double maillards burger and garlic crunch caesar salad. The burger is small but the salad is quite large. The main downside is the crowd coming in as this location is small to medium sized and the crowd is very large on the weekends. Expect to wait for some time. They have really a unique burger selection. There is Asian inspired burgers, traditional American burgers, chicken burger and more! The beer is also amazing. The ambience of the store is great, it's always so busy and lively and has a bar vibe. They have some outdoor seats as well. As one person noted, when it is busy it is difficult to find seating. But the pros is that this place is only 4 blocks away from the beach! After you order at the counter, they give you a paging device that vibrates when your order is ready. So we grabbed our food and walked to the beach. I think everything was good except the fries. They even have unique sauce list. Line was out around the block until at least 9 pm. If you want to grab a beer or drink at Two Pitchers (brewing company from Oakland) you can separately enter the bar at the left hand side. Maillards was initially a pop up a the Sunset Farmer's market. It's great to see they are opening a brick and mortar store. Ambience is loud and lively which is nice to see in the outer sunset. Plenty of groups, couples and friends chatting away with a beer and burger. The smash burger itself is substantial. Good fries with options for different sauces. We got the spicy aioli, herb ranch and Morrocan spiced honey. Parking on that block itself is busy because of the amount of restaurants in that area. This is a review about the brewery connected to Mallards. You can either order your drinks at the bar or through Mallards but the beer selection is quite extensive. I have tried a lot of breweries in the city and I appreciate their dedication to local craft! I also appreciated that they had spritzes and slushees. I was able to get a flight of a few of their lighter beers, but the staff let me sample a few things. It's a great addition to the Outer-Outer Sunset! Yes, the lines are long, but that's if you want a burger. Pro tip: Get a beer and wait in line or just get a beer and skip the burger. There's an extensive list of both Two Pitchers beers and some good selections from other breweries. There's also the $3 pint that's slammable. The service is really friendly and quick. Good selection of beer on tap and some as low as $3! Be sure to go early especially when Maillard Burger is open that day. They fill up fast and there will be a line out the door. I got their Nordic Jam which was delicious with cherry and strawberry notes in a juicy kind of way. Would love to go back and try other kinds of beer. So exciting to have a place to grab a drink on this side of town. They have a great selection of their own beers as well as other local breweries. Every time I've gone by there's always been a line which is great for them. Usually takes about 60-90 min after arrival time to get your food but you can grab a drink while you wait in line. The burger is great but for me the chicken nuggets and the Caesar salad were the star. The dressing for the Caesar salad is *chefs kiss. I hope one day they give an option to add chicken to the salad instead of having to pay for them separately. Hopefully the wait dies down a little but love seeing so many people in the outer sunset. read more

Finally a brick & mortar location for my fav smash burger in the city! We went the weekend following soft opening, so we were prepared for the line. Showed up 20 min before opening and there was already a line down the street. All in all, we waited for an hour between doors opening, ordering, and food arriving. Two pitchers bartenders were ringing up beers for guests waiting in line for maillards, which I thought was a clever partnership and nice touch. Burgers are absolutely delicious and worth the wait. DO NOT SKIP THE OREO ICE CREAM. I can't name a much better combo than maillards burgers, hazy ipa, and Oreo soft serve. Will definitely be back. read more

SOOO good! Didn't realize it was the soft opening when we showed up on Saturday. The line was down the street before it even opened. Love how there is a line for beer and a line for food because you can have a beer while you're waiting. Guy that helped poured my beers was great. Gave recommendations based on what I was wanting. Arrived on a Thursday at 5:30pm and the line was already out the door... outdoor and indoor seating completely full. Some people clearly knew the drill, arriving right at opening with their card games to settle in for a beer and burger. Families with little kids spilling outside, parents with beers while the kids ran around... total neighborhood vibe. Here's what we figured out: have one person stand in the food line while the other heads straight to the bar on the left to order beer. That way you're not waiting empty handed. As the line moves inside, keep an eye out for any table about to open up and be ready to move. From walking in to finishing our drinks and meal, we were out in about an hour and a half. We got a Maillard and a Spicy Maillard with fries. These burgers were worth every minute of the wait. Beer is good too and starting at $3 a pint, you really can't argue. Staff was friendly and the energy was high the whole time. Next time I'm getting there right at opening. read more

Maillards, the legendary San Francisco smash burger pop-up, just opened a permanent home inside Two Pitchers Brewing three blocks from Ocean Beach. I went to check it out on opening night. Everybody was there. And I mean everybody. Showing up... for $3 beers and smash burgers that used to sell out at the Sunday farmers market and now, proudly, hold a 2,000 sq foot permanent home in the community that has long lined up for it. There's still a line - but now you can drink beer in it. Maillards has been recognized by the chronicle, infatuion, SFist, and many more, as one of the best burgers in the bay area. But we're in peak smash burger era now, and they're everywhere. I'm happy for max and his seasoned crew - they were on their game tonight - I just hope they can sustain demand wed to sunday. from 4-10 and more on the weekends. I think they can. I think the food was always good enough to stand on its own. I got the double Maillard. Thin smashes... the ones with the lacy edges - need to be doubled up. The single is too thin to carry the experience. I learned that through extensive research. The double runs you $12 bucks. And I wouldn't skip the beef tallow fries - especially with the plethora of sauce options - my favorite was the house sauce - a little spicy and peppery. The layout makes a ton of sense - beer on the left from two pitchers a bunch of other local breweries - i got a bare bottle hazy, and a $3 house lager - where else in the city can you get a $3 pint? You can't get better $3 beer. The baseline lager is so worth! The line was long, but only if you want food with your drink. If not, you can just walk up to the bar. We did end up ordering both the food and drinks at the same time, but getting the drinks was not a problem.
