Food was so delicious absolutely enjoyed my clam chowder it was so flavorful. View is amazing as we have the beach right in front of us ( didn't capture any picture ) but it definitely set the tone & vibe. Service was excellent, our server was very attentive & fast.

Delicious fried calamari! I loved the fried green beans. Portion is small for sharing, and for the price.

We had a late lunch at the Beach Chalet on a sunny Saturday at around 3 PM. There was no wait, and we were able to get a table right next to the window with a lovely ocean view. The surface was excellent, and we all enjoyed our food, for the most part. PROS: Very good fish and chips, delicious calamari, very good seafood chowder. The VFW Blonde Ale is an excellent, refreshing beer. I love how so many of the beers' names reflect the history of the building, and the old building itself is so interesting. I love the WPA murals on the ground floor. CONS: The crab pasta carbonara was somewhat bland, and the portion was small for the price. The calamari portion was also small, especially because most people share that appetizer, as we did. I added crab to my seafood chowder, and the portion of crab was very small for the $10 price. The Caesar salad had a lovely presentation, and the Parmesan crisp croutons were delicious. But the whole lettuce leaves made it difficult to eat, and the dressing could have used more flavor. OVERALL: I would absolutely return if I were in the area for the interesting historical setting, the refreshing beers, the views, and the good service.

3 *** is a very accurate rating for Beach Chalet... The food was just OK, nothing was good, great or outstanding, including the beer. Also the service is a bit of something to be desired as noted by several of my fellow Yelpers. We came here on a whim, we didn't have reservations, so we did expect an long wait and were also OK with sitting at the bar. We ended up at the bar, the hostess mentioned there was nothing available, but never gave us a wait time. We saw a few spots open at the bar, so we just opted to grab them. There was only one bartender working his tail off. He was very backed up and didn't have any help. We wanted to be as respectful as possible, so we tried bother him as little as possible. We definitely spent a decent amount of time waiting. Finally some back up arrived; pleasant fellow, but didn't move with much urgency. Took our orders and disappeared for a bit. The wait for the food wasn't actually that bad. The kitchen staff was stacked... STARTERS: ~ Steamed Mussels - 3.5/5 Simple steamed Mussels. They were just OK. The sauce was nice, if you let the Sourdough bread soak it up. Nothing to rave about. ~ Buttermilk Fried Calamari - 2.5/5 Meh. The Calamari were NOT crispy at all. Actually they were fairly soggy. Flavor was OK. DINNER: - SEAFOOD: ~ Crab Carbonara - 2.5/5 Another dish that was just OK. Far to pricey for the amount of Crab they put in there...I think it might have been one leg! I kid you not!! Honestly, I can make this better. I'd go as far as to say, the frozen Carbonara from Trader Joe's is better. Might not be a fair comparison as it actually came from Italy... ~ Chalet Beer Sampler - 2/5 I was curious about the beers when I realized Beach Chalet was also a brewery. I opted for the Beer sampler when I found out all the beers were made in house. Meh. I thought the Blonde was the best one they had. They also ran out of a few beers. Location, location, location... I reckon everything comes down to the prime location of Beach Chalet. Get a window seat to watch the coastal views of the bay and enjoy a sunset if possible. Best thing about our evening was the parking, lol. The ambiance is brilliant, that's about it for me. Can't see myself voluntarily returning...

Meh. Buttermilk fried calamari- this was good. I enjoyed the flavor and the aioli, however, the texture was a little too soft. I like my calamari crispier. Steamed mussels- this was good and was maybe my favorite dish but it got a little salty mid-way through. Crab carbonara- this was my least favorite dish. Portion was smaller than I expected. The crab to noodle ratio was a bit on the low end and sauce to noodle ratio was too much. The bacon was not crispy. The whole thing just kinda lacked flavor. Beer flight- favorite was the blonde but they did run out of 2 of the bartender's favorites, unfortunately, so he let us pick 2 additional beers to add to the flight. Ambiance is pretty but I'm not curious enough to return on my own to explore the other items on the menu. There's so many better food options in the area. I'd rather opt for something to go and have a picnic at the beach if I really wanted to eat with this view.

Date of Visit: 5/9/2026 We made a early dinner reservation at the Beach Chalet Brewery and Restaurant right next to Ocean Beach, on the western end area of the Golden Gate Park. The Beach Chalet is a historic two-story Spanish Colonial Revival-style building, the restaurant is located on the second floor, with great view of the Pacific Ocean. This historic building was opened back in 1996 after a renovation, and was opened by Lara and Gar Truppelli and Timon Malloy. Chalet Beer Sampler $18 The restaurant is also famous for the housemade brews. With the beer sampler, we can taste all eight house made beach chalet brews, including Ocean Beach Pilsner, VFW Blonde, Chalet Helles Bock, Sea Serpent IPA, Presidio IPA, Sutro Saison, Riptide Red, and Seal Rock Black Lager. Whole Grilled Branzino $44 I ordered the grilled branzino, which was citrus-herb stuffed, and green garlic and chorizo. On the side it was paella rice, and scallion vinaigrette. Ribeye $68 Husband ordered the ribeye that was grilled to medium, and we got to choose one side and one sauce. He picked the Béarnaise sauce and sauteed mushroom with butter, garlic, chives, and parsley as the side. Add Maine Lobster Tail $20 We also added a Maine lobster tail to complete the main course. Tres Leches Cake $10 Tres Leches cake with fresh strawberries and vanilla cookie on top, was a great sweet ending.

Really nice restaurant with some great ocean views. Staff was super friendly and attentive. I got the steak and eggs and had a strawberry and pineapple mimosa which were great. Food is a little pricy but it is in SF so kinda to be expected. Would definitely go back.

We had a late lunch / early dinner and it ended up being a really nice experience. We arrived around 4 PM on a Saturday, so parking was easy and we didn't have to wait at all. Service was great, Joel was attentive and treated us really well, and our food arrived in a timely manner. The views of Ocean Beach are incredible, definitely the highlight of the place. It's a great spot if you want a relaxed meal while watching the waves. For drinks, we got the Roy Rogers, which kind of just tasted like coke and the cucumber mint lemonade was fine, but I couldn't really taste much cucumber or mint. The crab bisque was creamy and comforting with a nice briny sweetness from the crab. The fish and chips were excellent! Fresh, crispy fish and the fries were perfectly golden and delicious. The sea bass was pretty good, with beautiful presentation, nicely cooked, and flavorful, personally was a fan of the amount of kale added to the dish. For dessert, the chocolate truffle cake was quite rich. We also got the crème brûlée, it was not bad. I personally prefered the crème brûlée over the cake. Overall, a nice spot for a mix of the views, seafood, and relaxed coastal vibe. Definitely worth stopping by once if you're near Ocean Beach, but note you are also paying for the views.

This restaurant may only interest you for the historic aspect (although you can just enter the first floor, look at the murals on the wall and leave), but food is mediocre. For brunch we ordered the chowder in a bowl, risotto, steak & eggs, and beignets. Chowder was watery and bland Risotto was overly acidic and sour tasting Steak & eggs were average Beignets should be renamed to donut holes. As you can see from the photo, it was100% a cake donut hole and not a beignet at all. When you enter the building on the first floor, the front desk is for the first floor restaurant, so you just need to head directly to your right and up the stairs to see the hostess for Beach Chalet. Our server was nice and has no complains there.

    Oysters Rockefeller
    Duane R.

Stopped in to the Beach Chalet after spending time hanging on the beach / coastline. We were only here for appetizers so I can't give the full rundown but it was solid. We were quickly seated and greeted by our server who was very friendly. The oysters Rockefeller was topped with pesto (which was a little different), Ahi tuna poke was really good. It was also a bit of a switch up because it was sitting on a mango ponzu sauce. Food was good. Will have to go back for dinner or lunch to get the full experience.

Great location right by Ocean Beach in SF with beautiful views. Overall we had a solid experience with a few highs and a few misses. Service was a bit inconsistent throughout, but staff were kind. Calamari: Good overall and nicely cooked. On the day we visited there was no cocktail sauce available? Which was a bit surprising. The tartar leaned more toward an aioli style, which was fine, just not what we expected. Blackened Chicken Sandwich: A standout. The habanero relish was excellent and added great flavor. One guest asked for the relish to be omitted and still really enjoyed the sandwich. Cioppino: Unfortunately not worth the price. The seafood tasted gritty and lacked the freshness you'd hope for in a dish like this, especially given the location. Sourdough Bread: Not included with brunch or dinner and costs seven dollars extra. It's advertised as warm but came out cold, like it had been sitting for a while. Just okay overall. Sea Bass: Very good and beautifully presented. The turmeric sauce was lovely and flavorful. The only drawback was the amount of kale, including some of the more bitter parts, which slightly overpowered the dish. Garlic Truffle Fries: Shoestring style fries topped with Parmesan. Simple and good, easy to share. Burger: Decent, but we wished there was a more straightforward option available. We were surprised there wasn't a burger on the kids menu, which meant omitting several ingredients for picky eaters/ youngins. That ended up making it a much more expensive meal than expected for the kiddos. Overall, a good spot for the views and atmosphere, with a few nice dishes and some areas that could use refinement.

I just had a really nice dinner here to celebrate my dad's birthday with family. The pasta with crab meat was to die for. The ambiance of the place was so amazing and very fancy and the service was very special. I highly recommend this restaurant. I give them 5 stars

This is one of the spots that is well known for the view of the ocean. We dined here as the sun set and it was a super nice ambiance, with live music in the dining room. Di Stefano Burrata: B Brussel sprouts: B Crab & shrimp cake: A- Liked this one a lot. Kind of wish I had a whole one to myself! I like the presentation with the sliced oranges and grapefruit as well. Clam chowder: C+ French fries: A Surprisingly their French fries here are the perfect shape, texture, and seasoned perfectly. Sea bass: B+ Presentation is amazing, and the fish itself is great. The sauce had a lentil puree which was interesting but had more sweetness than I would like.

Their beer is excellent, and I've heard nothing but great things about the place and people. We visited on a Sunday and met friends, who said it took a while to get a big table for us; it was surprisingly packed! It's a large industrial brewery, with the equipment chained off at the back. Remembering that he had been wanting to check out 21st Amendment for some years now, I suggested that we go here. DJ was immediately sold. After calling two to three times to no avail, we temporarily parked nearby, so that DJ could walk in to check if they were still open and serving dinner. Thankfully, they were open, but they didn't hear the phone ring. We reparked, then arrived shortly before 7:30 PM and were seated immediately. I had been at 21st Amendment before for a very enjoyable lunch with some colleagues back in November, 2019 and the place looked exactly how I remembered it. Venue: 4 stars. With concrete floors and walls with wooden tables and chairs & benches, the restaurant has a rustic and industrial air. Upon entry, patrons are greeted by the bar with seating and its attendants. They have an open kitchen from where the cooks can nod greetings to you. The entire space, including the women's restroom is kept clean & tidy. DJ's only complaint was that he did not enjoy some of the techno music that would play in between the salsa and reggaeton songs both of which I was totally digging. Food: 3 stars. In addition to the TALL HAT that DJ ordered and fully enjoyed, below-listed are the food items that we had. Soup of the Day, Gumbo ($7 cup) - I was given a couple of complimentary slices of toasted bread to accompany my New Orleans stew which were nice to dip in the broth and eat. I'm not quite sure what kind of meat was used, but there was no sausage. 21st Amendment's version of gumbo is more like a soup rather than a stew as the broth was not as thick as usual. The flavour was still good, but I did wish that there was okra. When I was at the bottom of the cup and asked how I liked the gumbo, I commented that I enjoyed it, but was surprised that it was completely absent of rice. Our server, Luis, went back to the kitchen to inquire, returned, informing me that the kitchen admitted to forgetting it, so with a new cup including rice in hand, he served the second serving to me and comped the cup from our bill. Wow, I was very impressed by how the matter was handled. Veggie Burger ($16) with Garlic Fries ($2) - DJ said that the sriracha flavour of the aioli was light/faint. He would have preferred a little more punch of spice from the condiment. The garlic fries were not bad. Baja Fish Tacos with mixed greens ($19) - The two tacos were very generous in portions and the fish were perfectly fried golden. I found the cod to be fishy in taste, so I gave my second taco to DJ. He did not notice any fishy flavour which is very interesting because he is a vegetarian and I expected him to notice it much more than I did. Weird. Meat Lover's PIZZA ($20) - We ordered two of these twelve inch pies for to-go for the boys. Both said that they were good. Service: 5 stars. As I mentioned before, Luis was our waiter and he delivered stellar service. As a former server, myself, I noticed immediately the excellent care we were given by him.
