I was first introduced to Tyler at two of my girlfriends' (Tina & Christina - reviews also below) weddings. During their weddings I was able to see first hand how professionally Tyler and his team worked with the couple, bridal party, extended family, and guests. It was refreshing to see him and his team incorporate wedding guests to get wedding candids and action shots of the day. Once my friends got their photos back, I was WOW'ed by Tyler's work and the raw emotion and glamour the photos were able to capture! Fast forward to getting engaged April 2023. I knew I needed to book Tyler as our wedding photographer. During our consultation and introduction call, before even walking through services and pricing, Tyler wanted to get to know my fiance and I - both as a couple and individually so he could better understand what style of photography fit our wedding and vibes so it would actually last a life time. During this call we also discussed services and pricing; and even ended up booking Tyler for our engagement shoot. From the very beginning, Tyler was so great to work with. He responds very quickly and was always available to discuss anything we had in mind for our engagement and wedding photos. Tyler's photo style is very natural and candid and that was something that I really wanted. My husband and I are very, very camera shy and he really went above and beyond to make my husband and me comfortable in front of the camera. We took both our engagement photos and our wedding photos with Tyler and all the photos turned out so beautiful. My husband and I aren't exactly fashionistas, so we weren't sure what to wear for our engagement shoot, and Tyler spent such a long time helping us go over different style ideas and different clothing color options. For our wedding, we originally went with 9 hours to cover our tea ceremony and most of the wedding, but we realized we would need more time for our tea ceremony and Tyler was able to add on an extra 2 hours last minute, making it a total of 11 hours! Amazing! Tyler also had 2 assistants and they were also so kind and friendly. Tyler likes to do a lot of candid photos and likes to let the couple be natural with their poses, but my husband and I are very awkward in front of the camera and Tyler was able to pick up on this and helped us with how to stand and where to look. For our family photos at our wedding, we did a photo with my entire family (grandparents, cousins, uncles, aunts) and my husband's (both his mom and dad's side) all in photo. This is well over 60 people and we weren't sure how the photo would turn out, especially since this was almost at sunset, it was getting dark, and there were a lot of people... but the photo was perfect! I can't wait to develop this family photo to put up to show both of our families all in one photo together. Lastly, another thing that stood out to me was how closely Tyler pays attention to detail. During our family photos, he was constantly reminding our family to button their suits, remove their watches, put their hands in their pocket, stare at his camera only (not the other family members trying to take pictures behind him), etc etc. I can only imagine how disappointed I would have been if all these details were missed, but thankfully I get to have these beautiful photos that I can constantly look at to remind myself of this wonderful day and the family and friends we got to celebrate with. When I first started planning my wedding, the first thing I wanted to book (after the venue) was the photographer. I knew if I didn't get my first choice with MUA, florist, etc. I could always go with my 2nd or 3rd choice, but the photographer had to be Tyler. I finally got my pictures today and the excitement all came back! The pictures came out great and you know what, I'm ok if he takes another month because that's how much I love the results and I can see how much work he puts into making us look good and our pictures look perfect. He does quality work and I can see that now when I look back at my friends' pictures. Also, my mom loves our pictures and that says a lot coming from someone who criticizes everything haha. He is so easy to work with and gives really good direction, especially with the hands. I never know what to do with my hands or where to look but he directed us with every little thing. From fixing my hair, to fluffing out my dress, to moving my bouquet a bit lower. These are things that I really appreciate because I would be the one to catch these things (as a bridesmaid) with other wedding photographers. Not with Tyler though-- he is very, very detailed. After my husband and I got engaged at the end of 2021, I immediately reached out to Tyler to inquire about his availability for the next year. Yes, you read that correctly. I wanted to see what his availability looked like BEFORE even confirming our venue first! I had followed Tyler's work for several years before the engagement and I knew I had to book with him no matter what! They say for wedding planning, you want to have a clear idea of the vendors you want to splurge on vs not and I knew from the start that I wanted to have the absolute best photos of our special day to look back on so having the best photographer was our number 1 priority. We had our engagement photoshoot at Point Reyes back in April 2022 and because it was our first photoshoot together, my husband and I initially felt a bit awkward ("what do we do with our hands??"). Luckily for us, Tyler was extremely patient and guided our every pose and managed to take beautiful candids of us. I believe this was his first time shooting at this location, but Tyler was a natural and was able to position us in the best spots and lighting (see attached photos!!). Tyler Vu is professional and so so so so talented at what he does that I don't want to work with any other photographer ever again. If I can give Tyler Vu 10+ stars I would. From the moment I saw his pictures on Casa Real's website and then meeting him in person, I knew that I wanted to work with him. This review is so long overdue but since meeting him in 2019, Tyler has taken my engagement, wedding, maternity and in a few weeks family holiday photos. Once you work with Tyler and you see his work, it's hard to go anywhere else. He's so easy to work with and talk to, you feel like he's one of your good friends that you've known forever. Ok now here's my review below from working with Tyler! TYLER When it came down to my "must have" and "willing to spend" for my wedding, I wanted to make sure I had the best photographer. As soon as we booked Casa Real, I immediately took a look at their preferred photographers and let's just say, Tyler's portfolio and work is breathtaking! Tyler has a way of making you feel comfortable when he's taking your engagement, wedding and maternity photos. I specifically chose Tyler because of his ability to take photos and that aren't overly edited. He has an eye for taking great photos anywhere. It could be at a lake surrounded by dry grass and the photos come out so good. If you're looking for a photographer, look no further and book Tyler before his schedule fills up. ENGAGEMENT We took our engagement photos in Berkeley, specially the Botanical Garden and Berkeley pier. It was the first time we got the opportunity to work with Tyler and let's just say that out of all our wedding vendors, Tyler was by far our favorite and the one we were most excited to work with. If you're a bride and you really think about it, the only vendor that will be with you majority of the day is your photographer so you should feel comfortable around them. Tyler gives easy to follow instructions on how to pose, where to look, how to smile, etc. At first we were both nervous and so unsure on what to do, but by the time our wedding came around, we were so comfortable around Tyler and the pictures came out beautiful! WEDDING For our wedding we booked Tyler for the whole day. From 10-10. He took photos of us getting ready at the hotel, beautiful pictures of our ceremony at our parish church and photos at our reception at Casa Real. When it comes to Tyler sharing your photos, he will share a few sneak peeks then in a few months he'll share all the photos. I want to say from our wedding we got over 800+ photos. With our package we also get a wedding album which we don't have yet cause we haven't selected our 75-100 photos eeeek sorry Tyler lol MATERNITY When I say you'll love your photos with Tyler, you'll LOVE your photos! I mean like I said earlier once you work with someone like Tyler it's hard to go back. We booked Tyler for our maternity photos and took photos at Ed Levin in San Jose. He made our photos look so good. It's great to have someone that you're already comfortable to be around and I like that he captured some of the biggest moments in my life - engagement, wedding and now maternity. COST Tyler is worth every penny! He has different packages that will work with your budget. I have been following Tyler Vu on Instagram for years! I have been waiting for the day I get engaged to book his services for my wedding photos. Tyler has been the wedding photographer previously for my brother, cousin, and close friends. When he was a preferred vendor at our venue at Palm Event Center we were so excited! From start to finish Tyler and his team are so professional and amazing what day do. He is very responsive to our emails and text and will take time to be available for a phone call or FaceTime call too. While in the beginning stages of planning our wedding my husband and I had lots of questions and Tyler was very helpful in walking us through the process. One of the most important pieces of advice I can offer you as you plan your wedding is to make sure you love your photographer as much as you love your dress! Choosing our photographer was one of the most important checklist item on our list. After researching many photographers, my husband and I decided on Tyler. Tyler shot our engagement photos and since that day I knew we made the right choice. By the way, I highly recommend you to book an engagement session with the photographer that will shoot your wedding day. This way you'll get to know your photographer beforehand and also have an idea on their shooting style. Most importantly, you'll have an idea on how your wedding photos will look. That being said, our e-session photos came out BEAUTIFULLY and we received so many compliments from our friends and family. We spent most of the day together shooting in a forest then changing the scenery to the beach during golden hour. Tyler knew how much I loved sunsets, and he made sure that we were able to capture the most magical and perfect sunset photo. He went above and beyond our expectations that day, and we couldn't wait for him to shoot our photos on our actual wedding day. On the day of our wedding, Tyler was punctual and navigated the day super smoothly. He's truly an expert at what he does. All my family and friends also loved him and his crew! Tyler was incredible from beginning to end. I reached out to him through a referral in hopes he was available to shoot for my wedding. Although he had other commitments for the day of, he was able to shoot my engagement photos. He also referred me a videographer (Jack Wynn of Anemotions Films) for my wedding who was also able to meet us to shoot some engagement teasers! We met at the desired location and shot for 4 hours. The location we chose happened to be very windy and cold that day, but it did not stop Tyler from getting the amazing shots (shown below). Not once did he complain about the weather and even drove us around in his vehicle to find other good spots to shoot around the area. I felt Tyler went above & beyond for us! Tyler made us feel very comfortable in front of the camera being that my fiancé and I did not do this often and felt super awkward leading up to the shoot.
