Dumbfounded! I have travelled the world and dined from Shanghai to Paris, and no doubt, Ty's food has historically been awesome. A favorite place to grab a burger with family and friends from time to time over the past decade. But going downhill FAST ... I joined Yelp just to write this review. They don't like customers! After eating lunch yesterday I was discussing a business opportunity with a colleague and was asked to leave. Yes, you heard me right, pushed right out the door. Seats were open at the bar (where i've sat many times during the lunch hour when there are no tables available). In college I waited tables so I am overly sympathetic to servers and food service in general, but the rudeness here is palpable! She swept up our dirty dishes dropping a plate on the floor and just kept walking leaving the plate on the floor and expecting someone else to pick it up. The next trip by our table I heard her mumble under her breath "come on guys" ... at that point the awkwardness of the situation hit me, they wanted us to leave! So very bizarre! Then 5 minutes later a dude came to the table and said "are you guys done? We have a line out the door". Which was an exaggeration. I own a local business and bring customers to Wichita from all over the world ... and here's my advice for Ty's ... it's easier and less expensive to keep a customer than to get new one's ... especially when a customer that will never go back, due to such an experience, and will talk to a few hundred people about my experience. Food is awesome but not awesome enough to overcome horrible service. Good luck. read more

If you like big, thick burgers then this is not the place for you. I thought Freddy's had thin burgers, well these are paper thin. Made the mistake of ordering a single to compare with other burger joints I go to and extremely disappointed to find the thinnest burger I have ever seen. Make sure you order a double or more if you want meat. Fries are good and are homemade so bonus points for that. Atmosphere is very nice. Worth a visit if your in the neighborhood, but otherwise no special trip required. read more

Old style burger (thin patty; lots of veggies - similar to Sonic), good fries. One of few original Wichita hole-in-the-wall joints left.

The first thing you notice about this diner is how dark it is. The lighting is dark. The walls are dark. The furniture is dark. It just feels like a diner trying to shut out the outside sunny world. The food prices are fair at just under $5 for a kids meal. The kids hot dog is a split wiener in a hamburger bun. It raised little eyebrows. However it was completely devoured. Their onion rings were great (smooth batter) and the service was excellent. If you're in the area this place is worth a visit. It just needs some lightening up. read more

Pretty good. I think my expectations were set a little high. I had the special of the day - Jalapeño bacon cheeseburger. The hamburger reminded me of a Freddie's burger. Very thin. It didn't have much seasoning if any. Fries were kind of bland. Greasy and limp. Like the grease hadn't warmed up yet. Sorry guys. I hate Yelp reviews because its mostly whiners and snobs, but here we go-Probably not the place to go if you're a food snob, but I eat here several times monthly and I think it tastes just fine. Good burgers and very good fries. The French fry portions are ridiculously generous and quarter portion of fries is plenty for any normal person. The service is very friendly, from the owner's wife at the register to her brother who waits on the counter. Bathrooms are sort of primitive, but who cares? Just get in, do your business, and get out. Price-wise, $11.00 will buy you a burger, fries or chili, and a pop. I don't think that's high, but some of you guys would b**** about the Lord's Diner's prices. Over-all a good, simple, old-fashioned burger joint where they don't put weird s*** like avocados and eggs on your burger. read more

I have left past stellar reviews. You his review will not be so. We have been going to Ty's for as long as I can remember. I've recommended it over and over for the food. On my last visit I was early and arrived at 12:15. My party had not arrived, so I waited in line. Just me. I was asked how many in my party and I said, three. They seated other people coming in behind me and finally seated me at 12:30 upon which my "party" arrived. We ordered, ate our food and visited like we always do. Our server asked if she could clear some plates, my mother said yes. We were still eating the fry basket. When the server came back we had asked for to-go drinks and she took our fry basket. When she brought our drinks she took the salt shaker and and slung it across the table that when it hit the wall We were surprised it didn't break! We were shocked to say the least and were getting ready to leave when a man (assuming the owner) leaned over our table and said "Could you leave? We have customers waiting." Shocked, we got up to pay our bill. Two people were waiting. I will never be back! There are plenty of hamburger joints out there. I was use to the gruff service but this was far beyond bad service. All together we were there under an hour. read more

The burgers are kind of thin but they are also as big as pancakes. They don't short change you on meat. We got to watch them take 4 potatoes and turn them into delicious french fries. The staff is very friendly and the prices are fair. They do not offer the fried mushrooms any longer but other than that it is a great little place! read more

Its OK, needs some updateing maybe. Need to look at Ty"s way to make a burger. . I have been going there since 1982 when Ty and Jo would work us in so we could get back to work. Food was great. Ever heard the commercial back in the 80's, "where is the beef?" This is starting to apply to Ty's. I have been eating at this diner since the late 1980's. I have seen many new owners come and go in this time period. Well it has recently received new owners again, and I have to tell you, if the meat gets any thinner, it will cease to exist, and I for one do not want to spend that much money for a bun and slice of cheese with no meat. So, either the new owners will have to, beef up the beef, or I will bring a 23 year tradition of eating at Ty's to an end, and start frequenting TJ's burgers, they are not afraid to give you a big juicy meat patty, and it tastes really good also for about the same price of Ty's. My wife found this place and wanted to try it out while we were in Wichita today. This is a very straightforward burger place with a very simple menu. The burgers were excellent, the fries weren't bad, and the onion rings were good. The service was the best I have had anywhere and I don't think enough good things could be said about how friendly and attentive the staff was. They made a good meal even better. If you like burgers and fries you've got to try Ty's. read more

How has no one wrote a review about Ty's Diner yet???? People you are seriously missing out on the best burger in town, in Kansas and probably all of the midwest!!!! Seriously! No SERIOUSLY!!!! I am for the most part a vegetarian... but every once in a while my inner carnivore snarls her fangs and won't be satified with the usual fruits and veggies. So when she does... I am really bad, but in a yummy way. Ty's makes steak burgers and has been doins so since the 50's people! As in 1950's. Any place that stays in business and in the same location for over half a century is a gem. They are only open for lunch, I think 11-2 and they are always packed. Their fries are off the hook... and they go through something like 400 pounds of potatoes each day of business. I have also tried the tuna salad... also yummy, but go ahead... have a burger why don't cha? It's that kind of good... you have to close your eyes for. Seriously! Ty's is a great place with fantastic burgers and fries. But if your in the mood for something a little different try Ty's Juicey Lucey. It's a thick burger stuffed with cheese. I had the Jalepeno Popper Juicey and my friend had the California Juicey. Yum! read more

This place is just ok. The burgers are good, but way over priced. The owners are very rude, like they don't appreciate your business. They talk about how "reasonable" their prices are, but it will cost you nearly $15 to have a burger, fries, and drink at this place. In my opinion if you want a good burger at a reasonable price go to West Street Burger. You can feed a family of 3 for the same price as feeding 1 person at Ty's.
