Inside the LIC Food Hall. They specialize in Okinawan styled onigiri. I love onigiri, so I wanted to try this out. They have a combo deal of a main (onigiri), drink and side for $1.50 off the total, plus a cash discount of 3.5%. it only took about 5 minutes for my order to be ready. The Grilled Mentaiko is strong in flavor with the mentaiko sauce. It goes well with the slightly salty spam. The egg is nondescript. The rice and nori holds together well. The Purple Sweet Potato Croquette is crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Good sweet potato flavor. It is very purple in color. The matcha latte (and I assume their other drinks as well) is tiny! I guess for $3 ($2 for their other drinks), it's not surprising. It was light in matcha flavor, as it was mostly milk. Probably better off with their other drinks. Overall, it's good for a quick small bite, but it's a little pricey for what it is. Definitely take advantage of their deals if you want to try this place out.

Pretty good musubi rolls but expensive for a pick-up counter. The eel in this roll was tender and braised, but it was $16. We got our order about five minutes after we placed it.

Really crazy that it costs eight bucks for these tiny rice sandwiches. I ordered the grill mentaiko onigiri which comes with mentaiko, egg, and rice. The mentaiko was phenomenal - creamy spicy and savory. Only to be let down by this driest rice I've ever had. Unfortunately, it really ruined the dish for me and made it difficult to eat. On the bright side, this was ready in less than a minute, so pretty good for a quick meal.

Nestled in LIC food hall, this spot specializes in rice sandwiches. I got their curry croquette in a meal combo with one of their honey drinks and chicken karaage. Overall, I felt that it was alright. The food was good but definitely over-priced and I'm not sure if it's worth trying.

I've never tried Okinawa style onigiri before but it seems to be like a sandwich form of onigiri. I visited during their grand opening so they had a promotion where you could redeem a drink (black tea, green tea or honey lemonade) after reviewing their stall. The honey lemonade was so refreshing and the price wasn't too bad either. It came in a small sealed cup with a thin short straw. I also got the original flavor onigiri which came with spam, egg and nori sauce. I didn't get to eat it until an hour later and it had gotten a bit soft already. It was okay but I wish it had a stronger flavor as it tasted kind of plain to me.

Was walking in the area with my mom and passed by on the way to a bakery, but good thing we turned back. One of the staff members opened the door for us. It's wheelchair accessible. Attentive and helpful staff. Great first impression of the place - garden decor, chandeliers/ambient lighting. Got the Creme Anglaise souffle pancakes - with fresh fruits, very light and fluffy, not too sweet. Ice cream sounded simple on the menu - though just a small scoop, it came with red bean paste, fresh fruits so not bad @$6. Rose latte is rosy of course with crushed petals. Liked the food presentation, cute spoons. Will surely return. Restroom available.

The soufflé pancake was very airy but so so small and i wish they added more fruits to it . The drink I got was lychee and it wasn't what i expected which was disappointing . Food is a bit pricey after tax and tip. Service the staff was very nice but literally went to us way too fast before we can even make up our minds . If we r just sitting and chatting they will come up and try to take our bowls away when there is still food left . wish they can be more mindful with that. But other than that it was fine and food was decent

The yakitori here is very tasty. We loved the veggie skewers (okra and shishito peppers. The salmon belly is actually just salmon pieces and not the belly party. The enoki beef was little too salty. The squid, beef and scallops were very tasty. The veggies tempura were freshly fried and delicious. Could have been drained a little better. Salmon crispy rice was a hit but the star of the show was the sushi and sashimi deluxe and the blue Toro roll. Amazingly fresh. The passion toro was a little too sweet and fishy for us and had no passion fruit taste. Service here is amazing. The server actually gifted us the desserts of matcha creme brûlée and homemade green tea mochi ice cream. So sweet of him!

I visited Dashi Okume when I spent the day in Greenpoint last weekend. Dashi Okume dates back to…read more1871 in Japan (it was originally established as a seafood wholesaler), but this shop in Greenpoint makes quality Japanese products, especially dashi, more accessible than ever. Dashi Okume sells ... you guessed it ... dashi. They sell several kinds, and you can taste all of them there in the shop before deciding which to take home with you (I tried them all and went home with one bag of vegetable dashi and one bag of sweet shellfish dashi). They also make custom-made dashi. You can choose from around 30 ingredients - dried fish, seaweed, mushrooms, and vegetables. They grind it up and put into individual bags for you. Such a fun idea, but I thought I should try some of their pre-made dashi options before creating mine own. They also sell miso, rice, noodles, rice seasoning, seaweed, tea, and other items. I picked up some Japanese mustard, seaweed, and rice seasoning to take home with my dashi. Beyond being a great shop, they also have a cafe area where they offer a teishoku set meal - you pick your fish, which comes with tea, rice, miso soup, pickles, and sides. They also offer an omakase popup. The shop is beautiful, and the service was very friendly and helpful. I'll certainly return for more shopping but next time I plan to make a meal of it and try their teishoku set.

Stopped in at Dashi Okume on a random Saturday afternoon and sat down with a spread of white rice,…read morebluefish, miso soup, squash, and mushroom. Simple and satisfying on the food front, for the 2 of us, the cost was about $110. So not a cheap meal, but good food. The vibe though was a little different from what I was expecting. I went in thinking restaurant and what I got was more of a market atmosphere. While you are eating, people are walking around shopping and browsing, and there are products displayed and sold throughout the space. Not exactly my ideal setting for a sit down meal, but it works well enough for a casual weekend afternoon stop. One of the highlights beyond the food were the soup broths and dried flake samples they had available to try at Dashi Okume. We worked our way through most of them and they were genuinely delicious. My wife liked them enough to buy one to use as a miso soup base at home, which says a lot. They also carry items for cats, which was a fun little surprise. As for the place itself, Dashi Okume is located on Norman Avenue and operates as a collective, meaning it is not one single business but rather a shared space where multiple different vendors and businesses come together under one roof. That explains the market within a restaurant feeling. Overall Dashi Okume is a worthwhile stop, especially if you enjoy exploring and sampling along the way. Just go in knowing it is more of a hybrid experience than a traditional sit down meal.
