The truck service of dropping off and removing the trailers was just fine. Everyone did their jobs, so I'll give them a 3 star for that. My issue is with whom they have chosen to partner with for labor. It's a group out of Wichita called Moving Staffers. They are absolutely horrible and here's my story: The moving staff had not showed up. When I called to speak to the manager, I was told that he couldn't find them. Eventually he did and I told him they could still come, but I would not pay them the full amount, given that we only had 1-2 hours of work left to do at that point in the day, at most. The management agreed and apologized for the lateness. So they showed up well over an hour beyond the window I was given. Now I'm in a dispute with Moving Staffers because the folks in Salt Lake (Two Men and a Truck) deny having agreed to that and claim that I owe them the entire amount. (The crew damaged my house as well, when one of them ran full speed, with a table mounted on his head, into the cross beam over my front door. It was reckless.) Whatever the relationship among partners--ABF, Moving Staffers, etc-- is their business, and the cash that exchanges hands between them is not of my concern. I seek only to be treated fairly, and I hold them all accountable. Now I'm in this fingerprinting cycle of Moving Staffers and Two Men, and I'll likely end up in small claims to deal with it. I used ABF for my move from Austin back to Los Angeles and am very pleased with thier service. They bent the rules a little bit for me and allowed me to pack up and have the pod removed the same day. At first I thought the pod looked tiny and was afraid none of my things were going to make it. We got everything in!!! Back in L.A., they stored the pod for me until DH and I got settled in. The drop off was on-time and easy. I hired two guys to unload it and NOTHING was damaged en route to Cali. I would definitely use them again. They are a bargain for the level of service. read more

Everything worked as advertised and our cross country move was faster than expected. We saved a lot of money versus a conventional mover and were able to afford to pay some helpers for unloading. The hardest part is the loading which is like playing a giant game of Tetris. It helps to have stacking boxes of the same size so that thinks pack in tightly, but practically there will be things of odd sizes that have to be accommodated. Ratchet straps are a must to keep layers in place. There is no doubt that loading is physical work, but it was very doable even for someone in their middle sixties. It took us all three days the trailer was parked at our starting location. Unloading at the destination went very quickly just half a day with some help. We managed our move without any damage and as we took less space in the trailer than initially quoted, we also paid less. This is a good system versus a flat fee, because it's really difficult to measure or estimate how much stuff you have until you try to pack and load it. We opted not to move most of our old furniture except for a few valuable antique pieces. Also things like box springs take up a lot of space and probably are not worth moving, but they can come in handy to create bulkheads to keep it all in place. Look elsewhere! They overpromised and underdelivered at every step of the way. They gave an estimate for delivery of my belongings 5-7 business days from when they picked up the trailer, however, they did not arrive until the 8th day. My truck actually made it to their dispatch center at night on day 6, but then they require 24 hours to schedule delivery so they couldn't deliver on day 7. When I brought this to their attention, they claimed the 5-7 business days is only an "estimate." Well, people make a lot of plans regarding their family, work, and other moving assistance (unloaders) that are based on UPack's "estimate" and you'd think that a "professional" moving/trucking company could better estimate delivery if this is what they do all day, every day. Even with that 3 business-day buffer, they still failed to make it. I, of course, paid them in full as soon as I got the invoice which was the day after the truck left my old house. On the 8th day, I was told to call in the morning to schedule my delivery and was told between 2-5 pm. They scheduled me toward the end of the day, even though they were already a day late on their promise...I mean estimate. Not surprisingly, they didn't even show up during the 2-5 window. They eventually showed up at 7:10 pm. When I asked why they couldn't deliver between 2-5 and why they quoted me between 2-5, they said that "per my contract, they can deliver anytime between 8 am-8 pm on the delivery day," and once again, "that 2-5 was only an 'estimate'" Granted, I could have read that in the contract, but silly me relied on the word of a "professional" moving company to be able to predict the time of day they could deliver my belongings and certainly thought that giving themselves a 3-hour buffer should be sufficient. Once again, I was wrong. I'll acknowledge that the driver, once he arrived, was very polite and helpful. Absolutely horrible experience, and not worth the savings compared to an actual moving company. Luckily my family and I could stay with friends, but if you are forced to be in a hotel, you likely won't save any money because you never know when your stuff will arrive at your destination. read more

Upack customer service is fantastic. Service is reasonable and takes a load off moving stress. However, do not use Moving Staffers.. The charge at least $175 to arrange a bid from local movers and have no control over or desire to ensure quality. Do not wait till bill arrives via email a week and a half later because you will be brow beaten about not hounding them to return left message about issues. We had boxes marked fragile hidden in the shed with broken Murano chandelier glass components. Two guys of three were not professional movers of which one appeared to be on some substance. So please take time and find a company direct and don't use a middle man like Moving Staffers. read more

Only selecting one star because I have to. Am so disgusted. Online and in my paperwork was promised a ramp. Was given one to load the trailer. No one told me when my trailer arrived they would have gone in and taken out my ramp and drop it off with out one. When calling the company they said they do not have one for us to unload our 28ft trailer that is 48" off the ground! How are we suppose to do that? The communication at headquarters/customer service is the only thing holding me back from a 5-star review. The truck drivers were amazing, they explained everything very well, and our belongings arrived super fast (first day of estimated time window, only five days after it was picked up halfway across the US!). As another reviewer noted, the communication seems off - I received strange phone calls regarding pick-up of our trailer that made it evident there were some issues with organization on their end. This place has very poor service and gives a very bad explanation of products they offer. The only reason this is 2 stars and not one was the driver and dispatcher in Denver were at least professional. I would like to run down my experience with this company quickly. I am currently waiting for my cube to show up from a move half way across the country and I packed it last Tuesday. I was assured that one cube for the apartment I had would be sufficient to fit everything. But even with leaving some things (including part of a sectional couch) it would not all fit. I was concerned when ordering the cube as I didn't think it would be a lot of room and it turns out it wasn't enough but of course I was told it would be multiple times. Now I also asked again multiple times, (turns out you want to know when all of your worldly possessions will be delivered) when my shipment would be here. I was told between the following Monday and Wednesday. I said ok that is fine and from here was not told by anyone that you HAVE TO CALL THEM AGAIN after your cube arrives to schedule the dropoff of your stuff. So here I was seeing on the tracking website that my cube was in the local yard since late last Friday but you cannot schedule over the weekend because there is no way to schedule online or anything and no one at this company thinks paying one person on the weekend to answer a phone is a good idea. Well given that my stuff is here I tried to call first thing in the morning (7 am) to make sure that it was going to be delivered that day. I was curtly informed that while the lady was "so sorry it wasn't explained better" and despite my protests that I had told them what ordering I wanted this thing delivered ASAP that it was not possible to have this cube delivered today or even get a guarantee for what time it would show up tomorrow. Basically, unless you want to end up like me a (disabled veteran) sleeping on an air mattresses with a bad back for extra days. I would beg you to go with literally any other company. Heck, I would move my belongings myself on the back of pack mules before I ever use this company ever again. read more

Harsh customer service. I had really bad experience talking to customer care of U-Pack. I spoke to someone call Robert who was very harsh. He was trying to pressure cook me into buying the services, when i told him i only call to find out first. He push me into keeping an hold not letting me know it required credit card information. On refusing to provide credit card info for holding, he got upset and hanged up the call. I moved my 1 bedroom apt from Austin, Texas to Orange, CA (Terminal to Terminal) and all went smoothly. The moving truck arrived at the facility, we loaded up the relocube, secured all of the boxes/furniture and the cube arrived at its destination in Orange within the estimated time frame (6 days, pretty fast!). All of my belongings were intact, including framed wall art. This was the most affordable option for this long distance move... happy with my decision to use U-Pack. read more

We had a great experience with U-Pack. Recommended by a friend who was also moving out of state, and they provided great customer service. Trailer was delivered on date and time expected. Drivers were very friendly and professional. One small issue on the drop off was that it was delayed two days past scheduled date due to tons of deliveries in Boise area, but it was still within time frame. Overall a great experience with U-Pack, and we were glad that we were told to go with the trailer vs. relocubes for better pricing. Find professinal movers through a reputable company on Yelp... DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE MOVING STAFFERS! Don't just take my word for it, but read the other horrible reviews online. I should have known better, but because they were aligned with ABF and I was in a severe time crunch, I didn't do my due diligence before hiring. I was quoted the hourly rate ($110 in AZ/ $100 in ID), gave a list of what we had to move which was largely boxes, and a handful of furniture, and somehow was signed up for a "plus" service which I unknowingly didn't realize was not an hourly but a flat rate full service move. Mind you, I explained over and over again that the house would be packed, we just needed movers to load the truck. The movers loaded our house in 3 hours and unloaded in 1.5 hours which would equate to approximately no more than what should have been approximately $600. Meanwhile I am charged almost $1,700 on my credit card for our move! Yup, they charged $400/hr! When I called asking for an explanation of the exorbitant charge, they denied any responsibility for why I was estimated and charged as a full service move, and that there was nothing they could do. I am currently disputing the charges with my credit card company. Spare yourself the hassle and do not hire them! read more

We went with Upack to save money on a move from Seattle to Austin, which we were paying out of our own pocket. Their quote was a few thousand dollars less than the more traditional route (Bekin). If I could do it all again, I would pay the extra $3,000 and save myself the headache. 1. I received a quote via email and when I called to discuss, they had someone else's address and name. I clicked into the quote and realized I had been sent someone else's personal information - full name, address, details of his move. I should have known better at this point but dismissed it as a fluke. 2. Due to the small streets and lack of parking in Seattle (no fault of UPack), we had to hire movers to load a truck, transport to their truck yard, and then load the trailer. After a few hours of loading in 20 degree weather and losing light, the locks on the trailer wouldn't work. I went to the front office for help and they seemed bothered. Someone else finally did come to replace the bulkhead lock and he was helpful. 3. We paid extra for a guaranteed delivery date. The trailer arrived in Austin the day before (success!) but when I called to schedule a time to deliver to my home, I was told this could not be done. This was after I received a text message prompting me to call and schedule a delivery time. Huh? This issue meant we had to wait for the truck to be delivered before we could secure movers to help upload into our 3-story townhouse. I was not told this when I scheduled my move. 4. Since we were unloading the truck right away, we expected the trailer would be removed that day. Nope - it sat there from Friday through Tuesday and I had to call twice to get them to come pick it up. I'm sure my new neighbors were thrilled with a trailer parked in the street for 5 days. I was not told a trailer would be left there for several days when I scheduled my move. 5. Several items were damaged. They make it clear in their contract that they don't provide traditional insurance. We thought by hiring professional movers and wrapping everything well, it wouldn't be an issue. Wrong! We're now spending as much as we saved to replace furniture. 6. Service - the two people I talked to when scheduling the move were great, always helpful and friendly. Everyone after that, especially the reps. at ABF and the claims department were either rude or apathetic. Two stars - one because they're cheap and one because they made their delivery deadline. I was initially pretty excited about the good price and excellent customer service that I received from UPack. That was until my furniture arrived - broken and smashed - literally - it looked as though my belongings had been through a tornado. They were also covered in dirt. I took GREAT pains to protect my furniture - I rented several packs of furniture pads from UHaul, I bought rolls upon rolls of bubble wrap and news print to wrap things in, and somehow, quite a few of my things were destroyed regardless. For example: 1. I had a lovely large dresser mirror that matched my other bedroom furniture - securely wrapped in furniture pad and placed between my bed mattresses - not only was the mirror shattered, even the wooden frame was broken. 2. I had an expensive TV/fireplace stand - the top of it was smashed. 3. I had a sturdy wooden bookcase - a large chunk of wood was somehow missing. 4. Wine glasses that were wrapped in paper and packed in a divided box were smashed. 5. A lamp that was bubble wrapped and packed in a box - broken. 6. A sturdy office box with a lid on it - crushed. I would not recommend this company to anyone who values their belongings. The story gets worse: After I filed the claim, a week later I got this incredibly callous and insensitive response from claims representative Joyce: March 26, 2012 Dear Ms: We have received your claim filed for damage in the amount of $810.00 in reference to the above shipment. Our records indicate that this shipment was tendered to ABF on ABF Trailer 501797 to which your personal belongings had been loaded by either you or your representative(s). Our records also indicate that this shipment did not transfer during transit and was delivered to your Austin, Texas, location in the same trailer to which it had been loaded in Rochester, New York. We also do not find that this shipment was involved in any type of accident, vehicular or otherwise. As such, we must refer you to the attached copy of the U-Pack Bill of Lading Contract under the heading of PACKING, LOADING, and UNLOADING, which states, in part: "Customer is responsible for all loading and unloading. The customer is responsible for packing all personal effects using proper containers and protective padding supplied by the Customer. Customer is responsible for installing the bulkhead, an ABF-supplied wall that separates Customer's goods and other cargo on trailer. The bulkhead is not designed to withstand the entire weight of your belongings if the load shifts in transit." Based on the above information, we do not find that carrier liability has been established in this matter; therefore, we must respectfully decline participation in your claim. If I could use ABF again for every move I do in the future, I absolutely would. My one and only complaint about them is that they only offer their services for very long-distance moves. I had to move a household from Texas to Oregon. I called around town and got estimate after estimate. Ultimately I decided to go with ABF since it seemed to be the cheapest option. Since they are a national chain, I wouldn't have to worry about paying for a driver or two to get to and from Austin, and I could get the loading and unloading done for a lot cheaper than every other place estimated. I rented one of their tractor trailers and did the U-pack option. They charged by the foot, and they estimated my house would need 18 ft in their big green trailers. If I used less than that, they would give me $100/ft back. If I needed more, they would charge $100/ft. Ultimately I paid just shy of $3k for the whole thing (Texas to Oregon), and I ended up using 19 feet in the trailer. They dropped off the trailer in front of my house for 3 days, and I hired some professional movers to load it. All I had to do was be there for them to drop it off so they could explain some of the equipment (they use a sort of "divider" to hold everything into place, so they have to show you how that and the ramp works). I called ABF when it was ready to be picked up, and it took 5 business days to arrive. They drove it from Texas to Oregon, and dropped it off in front of the new place for 3 days. The rest of the interaction was done over the phone. I faintly remember being there when they dropped off the trailer again to inspect it and sign for receiving it. I did have to make sure I didn't park my car in front of the house and asked neighbors to please not park there as well while I was anticipating the trailer's arrival. I didn't have to be there when they picked it up at either location. Little tip for movers: make sure you get rid of the stuff that isn't going to be worth $100/ft to move. I sold a sectional and 2 couches and saved probably $500 or more since they needed to be replaced any way. I sold them for $600, so I considered it to be a win. I only had one small thing broken, but that was because I didn't pack it very well. Just make sure your movers use rope to tie everything down inside the trailer. It's going to be a long haul, so you want to be sure everything is going to stay put. Also, you will have to supply your own padlock and give them one of the keys. Make sure you keep the second key for yourself juuuust in case. I didn't encounter any problems with that, but I just like erring on the safe side. It was very well worth it, and MUCH more affordable than all the other options I looked into. read more

I have hired 10 moving crews and the crew that loaded us in Sacramento, CA area was the worst. I have NEVER had a crew take 12-1/2 hours just to load. It should have at most taken 8-9 hours if they had sent an experienced crew! Instead we got 2 men and a boy who had never loaded done this before! I also have never had so much damage that could have been avoided. To make matters worse ABF sent us a trailer that leaked. They had to send out a repair guy to fix the leak that we could have put am five gallon bucket under. They said they take care of their trailers. I asked them if duct tape falling off the roof was their idea of taking care of their trucks. We have about $100 worth off damaged property due to the spray they used to patch the trailer. When I asked ABF about covering the damaged items I got the spiel about $.10 a lb. for damage. I explained that the damaged caused had nothing to do with the move. Two weeks later and the promise of compensating for the leaky truck hasn't happened. I would never use ABF or their loading contract company. If you choose to use them...expect their estimate to double! read more

My experience started off good. In Montana the truck was delivered and everything fine..loaded and hauled awAy with no issues... Texas was a different story....austin, they delivered the container and the delivery guy was great. He told us to call before we had it completely unloaded because they would swing by to get it, they have a driver in the area. I called by noon the same day, informed them we were done and they could come get it...street space is so limited, we wanted it gone...and HOA doesn't allow that on the street either. I called again at 6pm and was told they can't get container, too backed up. They don't have drivers through the weekend so now it had to stay on street through The weekend. The neighbors weren't happy about it, neither were we. I informed them of HOA rules and what would happen if I got fined. The gentleman was quite rude to me about the situation, very poor customer service Monday came around, noon and container still there. I called and again told they "might get to it today". I just want the container gone....I don't understand...we unloaded it in 2 hours and it's sat there for over 3 days! It's rediculous read more

For the record, I scoured the interwebs reading countless reviews and mostly horrifying experiences. Only a few passed my 3 star OK mark. I picked U-Pack based on a few decent reviews and I liked the idea of packing my stuff into my own dedicated cube. But I was still skeptical. This may be unheard, but U-Pack killed it. Not only did my stuff arrive intact, it came DAYS ahead of the scheduled delivery window! But the whole experience was super easy and convenient. They dropped off the pod when I asked, they picked it up the next day and all the customer support was very helpful and able to track my stuff. If I had to move again, I would 100% choose U-Pack again. read more

I am in the process of moving from Austin to Oakland, CA. I underestimated the amount of stuff I had and needed a second pod day of for the movers that were on their way. The U-Pack customer service agents and delivery drivers are ROCK STARS! Not only were they able to get me a second pod that day but also delivered it prior to my movers arriving. Super frustrating to deal with. I haven't been able to get consistent answers from the phone reps and the one I just talked to tried to tell me that a 6x7x8 ft cube would hold 400 cubic feet (spoiler: it won't. that isn't how math works). They seem to push getting an extra cube just in case you need it - which you will if you go by their reps estimate AND which adds $1000 to the total. Plus, while the rep assured me that the pricing they quoted was the best they could do, moments after I got off the phone I received a new quote via email for about $500 less. We recently used two ReloCubes to move from Austin, TX to Portland, OR. We could not be more satisifed with this experience. The two cubes cost us about $3000. The man who delivered the cubes was named Mark and he was a terrific ambassador for ABF. So kind and informative! The cubes were delivered as promised, picked up the very next day (because we loaded them immediately!) and they were delivered to us in Portland as promised on the exact day we had requested. Don't even bother using another company's pods. The ABF cubes are INDESTRUCTABLE. So sturdy and well built. Even the movers we hired to load them said that ABF relocubes were the absolute best in the business. We highly recommend ABF for your moving or storage needs. They are extremely professional. PS... Don't bother using their partner firm "Moving Staffers" to help you unload your cubes at your destination city. Do some yelp research and hire your own unloaders. The ones that Moving Staffers hooked us up with were expensive... and not very good at all. read more

No one knows what's going on in this company. The right hand doesn't speak to the left. From the get go I was given incorrect information. The employee who dropped off the trailer said to put my own lock on it (it was cut off), that I had same day pick up (to just call when I'm 1-2 hours from being done and their men 'in route' would pick it up), and never specified I only had a certain amount of the trailer. The representative on the phone when I ordered did not specify the amount of space I had to use either. Moving almost 1900 miles away and the stress that brings along with a child in the hospital during our trailer drop off and loading time did not help with the stress. Everyone kept saying "it's in your contract". Which is fine and I get it... but NO ONE on the front end explained ANY OF THAT. So my husband and I found ourselves with an unexpected cost during a difficult time financially of $1300!!! After all was said and done we were given a whopping discount of $200. Very disappointed and I'll make sure everyone I know does not use this company for long distance moving. Not to mention my 55' flatscreen was broken in transit. The Austin terminal, however, did deliver promptly and gave friendly service. read more

I used U-Pack for their full trailer service (not the cubes) for a 1,300 mile move. The trailer arrived at my original location on time. I got it loaded it up on the second day and called them to pick it up, which they did the following day. I was told it would take 5-7 business days to arrive at my new home. It arrived on the 7th business day. I will admit, not knowing the exact date of arrival can be stressful during a move as I had hired movers to help me unload. I scheduled the movers to arrive in the afternoon on day 7, so luckily for me the timing worked out perfectly. U-Pack has an online dashboard that allows you to track the location of your trailer from the time it's picked up until they drop it back off to you. That was very helpful. My trailer went to a large hub (not my destination) first and sat there for a couple days, which had me worried. When I called, I was told by my hub that they weren't sure when it would arrive to them but it should be at my house by the 7th day. Again, it all worked out but it does seem like they should know when it will be scheduled to go from one hub to the next. In deciding on U-Pack, I knew I wouldn't have an exact delivery date upfront. Unfortunatly U-pack provided my family and I with the worst cross-country move that we ever could have imagined. We were promised our truck would arrive to our new on a certain day and it never happened. We planned our drive and hired movers to help us according to this promised date. Everytime we called to work out the situation, they gave us an excuse and told us it was out fault for not reading the documents we signed even though we were verbally told something different . The arrival date and time changed several times and we had to spend hundreds of dollard im hotel fees. I don't recommend them to anyone. can you give 0 stars. u-pack is a mover BROKER. they give you a quote but the estimate is NOT BINDING with the actual mover who takes your job. uPack quoted us $2,200 and at the end of the actual move, the movers wanted $5,500! said the estimate wasn't correct. it was MORE than correct and actually had all the entire outdoor furniture on the estimate that we decided not to take. Calls to u-Pack were not returned. EVER. I CANNOT TELL YOU ENOUGH TIMES TO STEER CLEAR OF THIS CRIMINAL ESTABLISHMENT. THEY ARE CROOKS. read more

My wife and I have experienced the worst customer service from U-Pack. The container drop off and pick up from our original location were both delayed and when we called we experienced no help or professional courtesy; there is a clear divide between customer service and dispatch. The main problem is that if you are calling about drop off or pick up times they forward you to dispatch who are even shorter on customer service skills. Our things made it from point A to B in a reasonable amount of time. Now we find ourselves in some sort of container pick-up purgatory. When we called for U-Pack to pick up the empty container (first thing in the morning) we were told 1-2 days. We are now at the end of Day 4 with not only the weekend looming (U-Pack does not work over the weekend) but a possible fine from our HOA as well. Each time we've called we've had the displeasure of dealing with a Sheldon, who turns out is a dispatch manager. His response to our calls has pretty much been, "we can't guarantee a time, we pick it up when we pick it up". Again, the WORST customer service we have ever experienced. I would have much rather preferred paying the little extra $ and Uhauled our things ourselves. Throughout this whole exchange we've contacted U-Pack well over a dozen times and not one has been positive. read more

U-Pack moving did a great job getting our stuff from California to Texas, with that said do not let them talk you into using the company moving staffers, there are horrible company destroyed 75% of our furniture and aren't going to be responsible for any of it so we turn them to into the Better Business Bureau, just like everybody else has. read more
