This is at least my third time to use ABF/U-Pack moving, all of them long-distance. The experiences have been as near to flawless as possible, especially on the drop-off/origin end: trailer dropped off at times said, picked up at dates said. The cost has always been affordable. The only real improvement/quibble is if they could give more accurate times on the destination end, around when the loaded trailer will arrive and when it will be picked up once emptied. But that in no way affected my actual experience. I recommend this method to anyone able to pack and load their own belongings. (We paid movers to load and unload. Loading a shipping trailer is an art form and a skill I don't possess!) We moved our 4 bedroom home in a 28' trailer from Vancouver WA to Bellevue TN. Both distribution centers Upack and Dispatch Teams were great! Their customer service was excellent and they worked with us as our schedule dates adjusted at critical dates as to when the trailer was delivered to be filled and when it was picked up when unloading was completed. The drivers on both ends were excellent and. Wry proactive in their communication with us on key dates and times. I would definitely hire this service again! I had a delightful experience with this company and their sub contractors. The prices are amazing, and the local team in Portland (ABF) was absolutely amazing to work with. The telephone customer service from Jameson at UPack's 800# was a delightful and easy going experience. The Portland ABF Team from dispatch to delivery and pickup was on the ball - excellent communications and always on time. I wish I could remember everyone's names, but each of them were rockstars! The Las Vegas team handling my Relocube was stellar and the Austin, TX team was fantastic. This was my second time using them. I was nervous, as you hear a lot of moving horror stories about other companies and it had been 12 years since the last time I used them and the world had changed a lot. They were even better than before. The drivers were courteous and helpful. The truck arrived earlier than I had planned and they held it at the depot to deliver the day before the movers were scheduled. A lot to like about U-Pack but also some frustration. Communication was good throughout the process & the trailer was delivered pretty close to the time promised. The time to get it delivered to the Midwest was surprisingly fast. The frustration was an old bulkhead that we couldn't get closed once packed & it took an hour & we finally simply cut the pipe so we could remove the bulkhead. When ur ready to unload - being held up by old inoperable bulkhead is incredibly frustrating and takes away from what was mostly a good experience. read more

Less expensive than traditional movers by far tho we had to have two sets of movers at both ends. It was still less expensive crossing the country from west to east coast. Because they pack from floor to ceiling we had some bins and crates get squished. The less durable the piece the less likely it made it unscathed. read more

Cross country move. Portland, OR to West Virginia. The trailer arrived on time in Portland. Both the drop off and pick up drivers were very polite and professional. Trailer arrived in Belpre, OH within the 10 day window, however, they could not deliver it to my home. I moved to a rural area and after sending a supervisor out to my address, they determined they could not deliver to my door. This resulted in our having to hire local movers and transfer a full 28' trailer to a 30' truck. That ended up costing us more than the charge for U=Pack to move it across the country so make sure you can get them to your door! We were refunded 600.00 of our moving cost for this. The only damage (very minimal) to items in our trailer was caused by the loaders, not U-Pack. The staff at the reload in Belpre were very accommodating and professional. Only issue I had was I wish I was told if I was to put my items in a storage facility that I needed to check w/them first to see if it was a deliverable address due to the trailer fitting in their driveway or sidewalk properly. the trailer delivery for loading was on time and the driver was very helpful in making sure it would be parked in a good location overnight. the trailer arrived safely cross country and ahead of schedule however getting it delivered for unloading turned out to be a bit stressful as I was given a four hour window and the trailer arrived one hour past my four hour window. I had hired help to unload the trailer so of course the late delivery interfered with that arrangement and unloading had to be done in the darkness which only made things more difficult. read more

Easy to contact, and very responsive. We saved a tom of money doing the loading and unloading the 28' trailer ourselves. I'm a professional packer, used 15 ratchet straps, 150' of nylon rope, bungies, 36 moving blankets and skill. I guess because gas is so expensive, the company opted to transport from Portland OR to Winston Salem by train. This is a much much harsher ride!!! The back and forth motion made everything rub. Ratchet straps rubbed the high quality blankets clear through, in turn rubbing through the finish of some wood furniture. There was cardboard dust on everything from the constant motion rubbing the boxes against each other. A horrible way to transport your belongings. If you are moving long distance, make sure your transport is by roads. We weren't told of the train ride until they came for the trailer. read more

We used them twice recently. We sent the amount for a 1 bedroom in a relocube to Florida. The employees were awesome, the price was fantastic, and the relocube was super easy to load. A lot of our things were squished in to prevent our stuff from shifting around. We loaded at the terminal/Upack site. Two months later we shipped our things back in 5 ft of trailer space. The employees were ok, but I had to call a lot to talk with Sabrina to obtain access to my stuff. Seems no one else is able to help; which is frustrating. Our stuff in the trailer shifted around a lot regardless of how tight we tried to pack it. Overall, I like Upack and will use them again. I will only use the relocube going forward and try to use more blankets for padding. A 1 bedroom barely fits into one relocube. read more

I would have given five stars if it wasn't for the delivery portion. Ordering the container through customer service was simple. Cheaper than PODS by $400 The delivery and pick up of the empty container from the Portland facility was flawless. They gave me a four hour window and the driver called me 30 minutes prior. It worked out great. Scheduling the delivery with the Denver facility was terrible. They gave me an eight to 5 o'clock window and said they would call me one hour before. The driver ended up calling me 20 minutes before when I work 25 minutes away. He wasn't willing to wait, he said he would deliver to me last. I called the local dispatch and they said the driver would be to my home at 2 o'clock. I showed up at 2 o'clock, received a phone call at 2:30 saying the driver was an hour out. The driver and customer service said that I had three days to schedule the pick up of the empty container. I was supposed to call one day prior and let them know the container will be empty. The container was delivered to me on Tuesday the fifth, should've been ready to pick up on Friday the eighth. I called Thursday afternoon and told Dispatch that it would be ready in the morning on Friday to pick up. I was told that they already pick the container up in the morning. I was upset because I still had garbage and personal items in the container. The driver was still on the road and the dispatcher did not offer for the driver to bring back my items. He told me I can pick them up at their facility. When I got home that evening I found that all of my garbage and personal items had been thrown in the snow. The personal items were straps and tape and bungee cords. It wasn't like they threw my household goods in the snow, nonetheless I was very upset. My apartment manager wasn't very happy that I had all of my garbage in the parking spot. It's too bad that 75% of this move was perfect yet the Denver location screwed it up multiple times. read more

We recently used U-Pack to move from California to Oregon, and the process went much smoother than I expected! Before we packed our cubes, I had concerns about security and whether our belongings would make it to our destination in one piece. We opted for the standard delivery, so I was also worried that our cubes would arrive at the later end of the estimate. Luckily, our cubes arrived on the first estimated delivery date, the delivery driver (Colby) was prompt, communicative, and professional, and everything made it in one piece! Once we were done unpacking our cubes, they were picked up very promptly (and on a national holiday at that!). I would definitely use U-Pack again if we were to do another interstate move. The only thing I would do differently is to opt for the guaranteed delivery date, just to have one fewer variable to account for. read more

The recommendation to use ABF Upack came from a friend, when I was struggling to find and hire an affordable moving company to move my mother from Washington state to Arkansas. So after only 9 months in Portland, I decided to move back to Vegas and of course opted to use ABF again after such a great experience in March. I was smart this time and paid extra for door to door - soooo worth it. They'll park it anywhere you want in front of your house, and you have up to a week to pack/unpack at your leisure 24/7. City of Las Vegas doesn't care, but be sure to check whether your other city requires a parking permit for the container (Vancouver, WA did). $25 for a right of way parking permit is better than a yet another stupid parking ticket. I moved with furniture this time, so needed a 2nd container - it was under $400 extra. If you have any doubt that all of your crap will fit into one container, just reserve a 2nd in case. There's no charge if you don't end up using it, but there is one for them to drop it off on a 2nd trip. I said it before, and I'll say it again - pack everything as tightly as you can, and use clothes in trash bags to fill any gaps. Since I could pack and repack at my leisure this time, things were in there TIGHT and everything barely shifted. Another thousand mile trip with nothing broken! Everyone on the phone at the Portland and Las Vegas offices (and 800#) were extremely nice, helpful and flexible with changes. They did same day delivery/pick up both times - depends on their schedule, but shouldn't be longer than the next day after you call. Only minor issue was that the day of delivery, someone called to say they were 20 min out. I rushed home, waited for an hour and called the Vegas office when nobody showed up. Dispatch had no clue who called, and someone came a couple hours later. Not a big deal and I love them anyway. I'm determined never to move out of state ever again, but I do recommend ABF to anyone who says they're moving. Good or bad - if anything is broken, you know it's probably your fault. read more

Working with U-Pack on my move was a great experience. I did what is called a "Terminal-to-Terminal" move with them because I was coming from a small apartment where there was nowhere convenient to park the cube, and I didn't have a place locked down where I was going. So I was able to grab a U-Haul, take my stuff to the local ABF terminal, and load it into the cubes. Loading took very little time as I was able to park my truck right next to the cubes which were left at ground level with plenty of space around. After that I worked with the excellent local team there (thank you Chris!) to finish up my paperwork and I was on my way. The cubes arrived at my destination in record time, and all of my stuff was still in good shape upon arrival. I would absolutely use U-Pack again over driving my own truck. read more

U-Pack was a bastion of service and sanity in my search for a solution to a long-distance move. Booking was simple, and they were able to deliver my cubes less than a week from when I booked. At every step they did exactly what they said they would do, and I had consistent communication on where my stuff was and how to schedule pickup of the cubes. My local movers in Portland OR (shout out to Willamette Valley Movers) were able to pack and secure my stuff nicely in the cubes, and nothing (!!!) broke in transit. The cost felt super reasonable, and my cubes were in CO days ahead of schedule. I will absolutely use U-Pack again if I ever have another long distance move. My only suggestion would be for U-Pack to offer furniture pads for rental. Renting them from U-Haul and returning at the other end meant 2 extra errands for me. But I get that they are a freight company and renting moving supplies would be a slightly different business for them. And the U-Haul solution wasn't that big of a deal. read more

We contracted Upack for a cross country move and they were great every step of the way, from scheduling, to pick up and transport and drop off. Since we had control of how everything was packed, we had very little damage to our items vs with a dedicated moving company. While uPack overall was a great experience and I don't have anything to say about the actual move itself, the one criticism I have is that the corporate office and local office need better communication to get them all on the same page. For example, here is one conversation I had with both: Corp: "Ok, so since you are having it delivered on Friday and need it picked up Monday, you will have to arrange for that drop-off and pick-up on the same day on Friday" **called Friday Monday** Local: "Just call us Saturday and let us know when you need it picked up, we can't schedule a pick up anyways before it gets dropped off and it's not there yet" There was a series of little things like this that created minor discrepancies. Again, nothing was damaged, and everything was on time, it was just figuring out the coordination and that lead to a few extra calls, not a big deal. One suggestion I would make to them (and a notice to anyone using uPack). Find out what the city requirements are when they drop off a container. I didn't know you needed a permit to park it in each city, nor did I know that there was street cleaning during one of the days I was unpacking that required the streets to be cleared for a couple of hours. Although I don't expect uPack to know all the requirements for each city, it's nice to inform customers that these kinds of situations can come up and maybe even provide a contact list/numbers so the customer can check and prepare a head of time so they don't get fined by the city. Not every customer is adept in the art of moving. read more
