Ube Cheesecake
Berneta A.

So I'll start by saying if you're thinking about getting one of their Ube cheesecakes, go for it, but be prepared. I picked one up for a recent gathering and didn't expect it to be that big or that dense. This thing has some serious weight to it. Flavor wise, it's really good. Super rich, very ube, and definitely the kind of dessert that gets people talking. Just a heads up, they only make it in one size, an 8 inch cake, and it costs about $65. You also need to order it 2 to 3 days in advance and prepay over the phone. I've tried my luck walking in to see if they had one ready to go, and that has never once worked out for me, so placing an order ahead of time is the way to go. The only thing I really didn't love: the cake was partially frozen when you pick it up. They tell you it needs about 30 minutes to defrost, but mine took way longer than that on the counter, and I even kept it in the refrigerator for about seven hours after and the inside was still icy. So if you're planning to serve it, give yourself plenty of time for it to thaw. That part was a bit frustrating for me. Is it worth the price? For a party or special occasion, yes, absolutely. It looks great on a table and feeds a crowd. For everyday eating, not for me. I'm more of a savory person, and this cake is sweet, rich, and filling enough that a little slice goes a long way. Customer service was excellent. I had to change my pickup time last minute, and they were completely cool about it. Ordering was simple, pickup was smooth, and I'd keep this place in mind anytime I need a dessert that makes an entrance.

Went in for a quick eight pack of the UBAE tarts. It's great stuff and very delicious. The front counter help asked me if I wanted the frozen ones or the refrigerated ones. I decided on the refrigerated ones. The ambiance was nice and clean. Always feel welcomed there.

This gem of a spot offers delicious ube desserts. I came here from California to try their pandan and ube swirl soft serve. The nice lady behind the counter informed us that since it was Friday everything was 15% off. Oh hell yea! We ended up getting a few things. The ube swirl was the perfect consistency and sweetness. The two flavors were nice together and I really enjoyed my cool sweet treat. If you prefer one flavor over the other you can get them by itself too. I also got some ube crinkle cookies which comes in a pack of 6. They were really moist and delicious. Yummy! I also got some packaged good to bring home to give out at gifts as well. Besides cookies and soft serve they also had a variety of cakes ready to go. They also had cheesecakes and some other sweet treats. They also sell merch as well. I recommend you checking out UBAE if you want something ube and are in the area.

@fortunefoodfinds: "Oh, U-BEtter watch out, U-BEtter not cry. U-BEtter not pout I'm telling you why, Santa Claus is coming to town! Throwback to receiving this pack of UBAE Ube Crinkle Cookies for free during my birthday week n' ofc I had to add-in an Ube + Buko Pandan Soft Serve Swirl. A reward so sweet, n' the taste continues to be elite!" SERVICE: friendly INTERIOR: enough space to walk around, no dine-in. Merch n' other vendor products available for purchase. EXTERIOR: located at the City Square Shopping Center in Kalihi WAIT TIME: 5 mins PARKING: lot right in front OVERALL COMMENTS: haven't visited in a while so it was nice to return. Crinkle cookies are really good, just be prepared for the crumbs. The soft serve is so creamy n' very yuMmmy. Not too sweet, but just right. Definitely still one of the top Ube dessert spots on da island!

I was so ready for this ube cheesecake and was surprised at the lack of flavor. The color was vibrant, but that's just the coloring. I was seeking the ube flavor and was left wanting. The cookies were dry and flavorless. The customer service seemed to be only "tolerating" customers. I'd rather keep baking my own ube desserts, despite the messy purple clean up.

Been recommending uber factory to my friends since years ago since I have no idea how their tarts could be improved. But I had noted ubae as well, just never got ti try. My best friend's family tried both on their last trip and they actually preferred ubae! Wow, so on my short stop in Oahu, I made sure to visit Ubae this time (June 2024), but they were closed due to short staffing... :( But that night while walking around waikiki, I found ubae tarts in the 7/11!!! Immediately got a pack to bring back to hotel to try. Hmmm, for my tastes, I still think uber factory is the best, hands down. But it was good to finally at least try ubae and reconfirm what works for me. But then it's not a fair comparison to get ubae from 7/11 vs at the store, so I guess add a star if in store maybe? Whichever way, I don't think it can beat uber factory for me. But give both a try, since my friend's family preferred ubae.

Love the ube tarts! It's better than the other establishment in Wahiawa. Although the lines can be long, service is quick and efficient. Don't miss out!

Therese H.

They don't offer their ube sauce anymore but have expanded their menu since opening to full ube cheesecakes, a new ube cookie with white chocolate, and more. Their combo platter of cookies and tarts make a great gift at a housewarming party!

Went while in the same shopping area. Saw they had soft serve with my favorite Filipino flavors, Ube and Pandan, so I had to try. It was about $8. It wasn't busy at all when I got there around lunch time on Thursday. The cashier was super nice and made it for me right away and offered a fresh or frozen one- I got the fresh one. It was delicious and perfect for a hot day. I'm definitely going to come back when wanting soft serve icecream.

Renta P.

Service was great! And the Ubae ice cream was delicious! Soft, creamy and just overall good.

On my last two visits to Oahu, I came straight here after I landed to get some ube tarts and ube cheesecake. This location is a grab and go spot since there's no seating available. Service is nice and lot parking is available. If I do come back again, I'd probably just order their ube tarts since I found another spot with better ube cheesecake.

Ubae yay... Or nay that I have yet to visit the shop in Kalihi though lucky me that you're able to find them at various events as well like the current Food and New Product Show at the Blaisdell where you can't miss the cute purple truck filled with goodies galore. Ube Cheesecake and Crinkle Cookies was brought here today along with various merchandise as they're voted Hawaii's Best size years in a row there's a reason for that. The service here is very friendly and great as I adored their Tart Plushie he made sure I knew it was available for purchase as well lol!! Lots of yummy treats and fun items as well making it a great spot for ubae anytime. Thank you!

Once they scoop your ice cream, they have a little station where they scrape the peanut drizzle from a big block directly onto your ice cream. Fun to watch! I got the crepe and chose 2 ice cream flavors: blueberry cheesecake and chocolate. My mom got the cup with matcha ice cream. I really enjoyed the crepe! The peanut drizzle was nicely spread throughout the crepe and added a nice touch to the ice cream. The cup wasn't as good in my opinion though because the peanut drizzle was only sprinkled on top and not as generously spread. I would come again, but I would only recommend ordering the crepe option.

However, there are many alternative malasada purveyors throughout Honolulu, so I depended on local vloggers to find the best ones. This one popped up often on YouTube, and as luck would have it, we were dining at The Pig & The Lady on the next block. How calorifically convenient. We took the opportunity to stop by for a pre-dinner snack since they closed at 6PM. It's a cute shop with multiple sweets including quite a selection of housemade ice cream and delectable mouthfuls called Cake Bombs (Photo 10). We decided we would be good and ordered one unfilled Malasada each. Dusted with various sugar flavors, they were just $2.65 a piece. I went for the Coffee, while Jamie chose the daily special, Cinnamon (Photo 6). They were soft and tasty, quite comparable to Leonard's albeit a tad smaller. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we had dinner ahead of us. However, we let temptation get the best of us and shared a $5.50 slice of the Ube Haupia Mac Nut Bar, a yummy combination of sweet potato and ube topped with haupia (coconut milk pudding) on a macadamia nut crust (Photo 9). Truth be told, it stole the show from the malasadas. Standard generous portion for a bingsu location, notably generous for an Ala Moana location. The location itself was free of insects despite being on a ground floor location with sugary desserts everywhere. Meh: The $14 (including 15% tip) dessert tasted too light and ice-like and appeared more translucent (rather than opaque white) than expected, leading me to think the milk was watered down, which may be how the establishment can make up the cost for the portion size while maintaining a spot in Ala Moana, especially given milk prices in Hawai'i, even if you're buying from Costco or direct from farmers. Also, tables were not cleaned after each party departed; that transparent puddle on your table might not be condensation and may instead be drool drops from the toddler who sat there before you. Overall: Good (not outstanding) experience. Knocked off 2 stars for combination of suspected diluted milk + unclean tables.

Every morning, without fail, people gathered outside waiting patiently for pastries. No flashy signs. No gimmicks. Just quiet consistency. That alone intrigued me. By the second day, my mind was made up. I'm an early riser, so the plan was simple: go on my usual morning run and arrive before the rush. Japanese culture and craftsmanship have long fascinated me. Through close friends with family roots tracing back to Japan, I've developed a deep appreciation for the culture -- the discipline, the rituals, the precision, and the respect for process. There's a beauty in the intentional pace at which things are done. Nothing rushed. Nothing careless. This bakery embodied that philosophy perfectly. The space itself was small, modest, and aromatic. No overdesigned interiors. No influencer bait. Just the comforting smell of fresh bread and butter hanging in the air. Some bakeries hide behind elaborate architecture and presentation, but this place understood something more important: when the product is exceptional, the product becomes the attraction. The pastries ranged from playful and charming to elegant and refined. The Salt & Butter bread was an instant staple -- savory, warm, and impossibly light. The dough practically dissolved like air. Thankfully, nothing felt overly heavy, because I completely lost control of my ordering strategy. The Kobo Kuma -- a soft bear-shaped bun filled with homemade vanilla bean custard -- was perfection. Equal parts cute and comforting. The Cinnamon Roll was solid, but the Haupia pastry completely stole the show. For those unfamiliar, Haupia is a traditional Hawaiian coconut pudding found throughout Polynesia. The flavor here was subtle yet lingering, delicate without disappearing. The kind of flavor that quietly stays with you long after the last bite. Then came the Blueberry Danish -- beautiful, buttery, and perfectly sweet. I didn't even make it to the savory options this time, which honestly just gives me another reason to return. And I absolutely will -- whether back here in Hawaii or perhaps at one of their mainland locations in Los Angeles. Some places become popular because of hype. Others because of quality. This bakery earned its line.
