My son and I visited this restaurant back when it was called Kobams. We had not been back since it was under new management. We decided to try it a couple weeks ago, but he got sick on his only day off. Bummer for him. Anyway, we went there this week to try it out. It was late Monday afternoon, and we were the only people there. The lady who took our order was very helpful, I think she thought we were a little lost, which we might've been. I had already looked at the menu at home and decided that I was gonna have the goat pepper soup. Unfortunately, they were out of it. Instead, I went ahead and got the isi ewu that my son was going to get. We also got an order of the chicken gizzards as an appetizer. They were really delicious and cooked to perfection in a spicy sauce with pieces of red pepper, green pepper, and onion. While we were eating the gizzards, the server brought us a plate with two puff puffs on it. They were scolding hot. I don't really know how to explain them other than to say they were fried bread balls. The bread was on the sweet side and they were really delicious. When the isi ewu came, it was a bowl full of goat stew. The meat was cooked to the tenderness of a pot roast. It was very rich and greasy. There was an herb used that was unlike anything I had ever tasted. I both liked it and disliked it at the same time. Don't ask me what I mean by that. Overall, the dish was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back so that I can try the goat pepper soup. We both like t jollof rice, too, so we may get a serving of that to split with whatever else we try. If you haven't had African food, you need to get out there and try it. This is the perfect place to do it. The server was so helpful. We felt like we were in a safe zone. Sometimes, when the food is so foreign to us, we don't even know how to order or eat it. No worries here. read more

Ubuntu Cuisine reopened after renovation on 10/18/2025, which is when i tried it. The atmosphere is nice. Service was slow. With the dining area having few other patrons I had to wait at least 10 minutes to have my order taken. I pegged this to the table of two the server was waiting on taking so long to place their order. I ordered the spicy Egusi soup with fried rice and goat meat. It came with some doughy like side and was passable, I guess. I'm no connoisseur of what I believe is South African cuisine, but I doubt I will try that dish again. The sole server in the dining room, who looked to be in her late teens, seemed to be still learning her job. She brought my order without utensils, necessitating my going to the register and requesting them. The meal was pricey. Those two items and one bottled water cost $37.03 with the 18% tip--which was an over-tip given the service. Will I return? Maybe, but Ubuntu Cuisine didn't impress me enough to earn top-of-mind space when I seek to try an African restaurant again. I have tried others: Ethiopian and Cameroonian. read more

We came here wanting to try Kobams Grill. Still, as we pulled up, we noticed it is no longer in business and has been replaced with a new African/Caribbean restaurant, Ubuntu Cuisine, which just had a grand opening on 4 November. Although the open sign wasn't on, I called the number on the door and found out they were open, so we decided to try this new place. As first-timers for African/Caribbean food, we were pretty pleased with everything we ordered. My picky child surprisingly enjoyed her food, even the goat she shared with my husband. Our 10-year-old enjoyed his fufu with chicken. We ordered four pounded yams (fufu), four Jamaica chicken patty (I wanted to try the beef patty, but they were out), Jollof rice, egusi soup, chicken drumsticks, and vegetable soup, and my husband ordered a side of goat, and he loved it. Everything was delicious (I did not try the goat). Cute table decor. Tons of parking. Excellent customer service and very welcoming staff. Nice, clean restaurant with appealing decor and great speakers. We enjoyed fried rice with stewed meat, egusi with chicken, and Jamaican beef patties. Though the egusi was a little saltier than I'm used to, all was tasty. Out of the three West African restaurants I've visited in the area, I enjoyed the food here the most. My one dilemma was not being able to get fish in the vegetable soup. My Igbo family has made this my favorite combination so I was sad when told it couldn't be prepared that way. The other dilemma was receiving fufu instead of garri/eba. Okay, not quite a dilemma since I enjoyed the fufu but it's not what I ordered and my husband would be disappointed in me taking fufu.:) The other thing that threw me off is the sign stating Asian, Caribbean, and African food. That's quite a mix. Aside from the patty, I didn't see anything else on the menu that signified Caribbean or Asian cuisine. There's fried rice but it's definitely African style.
