Even though it's a 40min drive each way for our appointments, and my insurance doesn't cover orthodontics, this was clearly the right choice based on the treatment plan, as it actually made sense, and my child's treatment requiring more than just braces throughout the process. When I first came here I had bad teeth I needed a lot of work done. Before my ortho treatment started I had "finished" all my treatments with my general dentist but still had pain in my front tooth. I communicated that with my dr before starting my braces and he said everything looked fine. It turned out to be a root canal and it had become infected. I woke up on Christmas morning with a swollen face and was in excruciating pain for days and I mean it was the worst pain of my life. I have a veneer on my front tooth now, something that could have been prevented if I had treatment sooner. The color matching process was long I spent 3 months with a missing bracket in my front tooth, I felt insecure talking and smiling in pictures because it was very obvious. Aside from that, I decided to continue my ortho treatment because their practice was separate. I trust the orthodontist here and the dental hygiene specialist. After I started care with a different general dentist in this office my experience improved immensely.

My question is: why am I just now hearing about this years later? Every time we visit, the front office makes sure payment is collected before we leave. You don't walk out without settling your balance. They told me this balance was discovered during an audit, but that explanation doesn't make much sense when these charges supposedly go back several years. To make matters worse, I now receive frequent calls from their collection company, and the amount isn't even consistent. Sometimes they say I owe $85, and other times it's $87.75. Which amount is actually correct? I typically pay with cash, so it's frustrating to suddenly be told I owe money years after the fact. I don't know whether there was a bookkeeping error or something else happened, but the billing process has been handled very poorly. Being contacted by collections over a balance that was never brought to my attention at the time of service is both frustrating and unprofessional.
