Ground Pork Varenyky & Fried Bacon and Potatoes Varenyky (with sour cream)
    Christine S.

My husband had heard good things about the varenyky (pierogis) from Ukrainian Flavors, so we had to try! All ordering is done online through their website, which is easy to navigate. They offer same-day pickup in Camarillo -- after placing our order, it was ready to pick up within an hour. We got the ground pork and the fried bacon & potatoes varenyky. All of their prepared food comes frozen with simple cooking instructions. We boiled them for 6 minutes and served them with sour cream (their recommendation) and butter. This was my first time trying traditional Ukrainian dumplings, and they were delicious! You can tell they were made with love and care in every bite. The ground pork was more dense than I had expected, but it was super flavorful and very herbal. The fried bacon and potatoes was my personal favorite; although I couldn't really taste the bacon, the mashed potatoes inside were the perfect texture. I could probably eat a whole bag of these in one sitting, especially with sour cream. A very simple and homey dish -- would get again!

Ordered 2 bags of perogis (1 beef and 1 potato & onion). Both were great and cooked in minutes!

The food and service here are amazing - get…read moresome. 3 GENERATIONS OF POUND CAKE DATA I grew up eating pound cakes baked by three generations of women who poured their souls into every soft, buttery, rich loaf. To me, that is what pound cake is supposed to be: simple, flavorful, comforting, and made with care. LEMON IN THE TITLE (NO SO MUCH IN THE CAKE) Unfortunately, the lemon pound cake I purchased today for over $15 did not come close to that standard. The color, flavor, and dense, bready interior all pointed to a missed opportunity. I was especially disappointed that the lemon flavor lacked brightness. There was no real sense of lemon zest in the cake or icing, which is what gives a lemon pound cake its character and lift. ICING - EPIC UNDERPERFORMANCE The icing also fell flat. Instead of tasting like a thoughtful glaze or cream cheese-style icing infused with lemon, it came across more like powdered sugar and water sitting on top of the cake. It checked the box visually, but it did not enliven the cake or the senses. NO FUTURE SALE HERE (UNLESS THE PRODUCT IMPROVES) For $15, I should have been excited to come back for another one and maybe pick one up for a friend. Sadly, that was not the case. I would love to see this store put more care into honoring the pound cake tradition with excellence, because pound cake lovers know the difference.

I love a good Italian sub and remembered that this place is in Camarillo and decided to get them through DoorDash one day. My review unfortunately has to leave out customer service and atmosphere as I didn't go inside. I will say they are a great spot to order from as their delivery is A+. My order was all made to order correctly and packaged nicely for the transport. Easy peasy if you want a sub and some sides to go. I would rate the food overall 4 stars and was happy with my meal. -I started with the Italian sub which was a solid 4.5/5. The bread was soft and fresh. The Italian cold cuts were loaded up and it was a generous sandwich. Loved the sides and dressings. Lots of good sandwich shops in Camarillo and this one should definitely be added to your list. -Macaroni salad is a solid 5/5! I saw my friend Jess B. Gave their macaroni salad a rave review so I had to order it. It was in fact delicious and I'll go back here again just to grab some sides of this. Super tasty and if you like a mayo based macaroni salad this one was so good. -Personal preference, skip on the deviled eggs. I like a more mayo forward deviled egg and these were heavy mustard forward. Some people will like that and then maybe these are for you. I just felt like the filling lacked a creaminess that I like and since I don't love mustard I wouldn't get them again. I know deviled eggs are a labor of love so I do appreciate them having these on their menu. Lombardos was a solid 4/5 in my book as the sandwich was delicious and I'd definitely come back for that macaroni salad. I need to check them out in person next time.

They served up tacos, burritos, plates and other Mexican specialties and prices were reasonable for what you get. Al pastor plate seemed to have a slightly different seasoning than the other Mexican restaurants closer to us. It was still a good and filling. One thing to note was that the parking lot was shared with the American Legion next door so if they hold an event then the lot gets packed. I had the best conversation with the man inside at the deli who took my order yesterday. The cashier was very dry and bland when I tried to be friendly and chipper when I walked in and while checking out but he didn't seem to care. I ordered an Italian Sub with some minor adjustments. I removed the Mortadella, provolone, and red wine dressing, I added genoa salami and garlic aioli instead with the ciabatta bread. I am still in awe of the taste and flavor and freshness. I finished half before work and the other half after because the sandwich was HUGE. It was worth every penny and it was a lot more affordable that I expected. The deli was in a grocery story type location so I was able to walk around and look at snacks and find something to drink as well. The ambiance was quiet, it was during work hours I stopped by so pretty much the entire plaza/Village was a bit empty. I will most definitely be coming by every-time I'm in the area. I loved this place so much. Thank you to the man behind the deli, your sandwich was a work of art!
