I took my parents here because I NEEDED to introduce them to the potato varenyky. And, of course, they ended up loving it, along with everything else on the table. Potato varenyky are potato dumplings swimming in a delicious, creamy mushroom sauce. It's my favorite item, but the entire spread of Ukrainian food that we ordered cannot be beat. A similar dish to this was the crepes with chicken and mushroom because the base used the same sauce. For dessert or a sweet breakfast should I say, the crepes with sweet cottage cheese are a good choice. Since my last visit to Fusion Kitchen was amazing, I knew I had to visit again! This time, I came back with the girlies for a cute Galentine's brunch--and it was unforgettable! The interior was nicely decorated with cute heart balloons inside the same rustic cozy interior. Presentation is top-notch and everything tasted just as good as it looks. Fusion was a very nice place to visit for lunch. Really cute cafe with a comforting ambiance almost like you're eating in someone's house. I've never had Ukrainian food but this cafe really opened my world to some delicious items! Food came out really quick and we were able to self serve water. My partner and I really enjoyed the potato dumplings which were soft, creamy, and savory. I do like that there was sour cream available for each dish, it just gave it a nice kick. The Beef cabbage rolls were also good, the cabbage was cooked really well and held its structure, the beef with the sauce reminded me of a meatloaf almost! The Syrnyky was a good dessert to end the meal--it was not too sweet and quite fluffy! I really appreciated how big the blueberries were and the mix of berries was fantastic. Very refreshing with a hint of tartness. Staff were friendly and attentive! It paired so well with the cold sour cream! Would definitely order this again and again. Varenyky with Mashed Potatoes: 8/10. Not as savory as the mylntsi but still delicious! Cannoli with condensed milk: 7/10. A little too sweet IMO but still a nice dessert. Matcha latte, unsweetened: 7/10. This wasn't my favorite matcha latte, but it was solid and I wouldn't mind ordering it again. It wasn't very busy at 1 PM on a Sunday; we didn't have to wait at all for a table. You order and pay at the counter first then find your own table, where they'll bring your food out to you. It took about 30 min for our food to come out, which is a bit slow, though I know this is also a newer location. My family and I drove up from San Diego to enjoy a meal and reminisce of our time in Ukraine. The food was delicious! We loved their borscht, halubtsi, and vareniky. Yet the menu lacks several classic Ukrainian dishes. Namely, I was hoping to find at least a few more options like solyanka, chicken kyiv, deruny, linivi vareniky, nalisniky, etc. Same with drinks... kisel, uzvar, kvas. Most importantly, if you're a Ukrainian restaurant, you might as well serve real salo... not just regular, grocery-store-bought American bacon. The frozen vareniky are too pricey. $25 for 700ish grams is outrageous. They're delicious though. The restaurant itself is small. There were only a few tables inside. While there were several outdoor seating options, it was rather cold despite the heaters blasting on full. There was no table service - must order by the register. Only one of the servers spoke Ukrainian, and he wasn't even Ukrainian. Wish they hired more Ukrainians, especially with the mass influx of refugees. read more

What a delightful find! I'm not usually on the west side but I'm here with some time to kill and found this hidden gem. A Ukranian fusion restaurant with real Ukranian staff. I asked about their more traditional Ukranian food and they recommended I try the Mlyntsi with chicken and mushroom. It's a delicious crepe I a mushroom sauce, some sour cream on the side to put on top and it was great! I would return often and try the rest of the menu if I lived nearby. They have coffees, lattes and wonderful teas. It's Ukranian based and there are so many other options too, hence the FUSION name. (It used to be MOM, PLEASE, former Black Dog coffee). We had the cabbage wrap and it was outstanding and simple breakfast with eggs and toast. I can tell the ingredients are quality and plates are nicely presented. Service is kind and their spiced chai hot tea was divine. They said things are ramping back up since the fires, but still it's kinda slow. They need to be boosted. Per our lovely server, "Mom Please" refers to the pleadings of children asking their mothers for a special treat....."Mom, pleeeease?" There are plenty of delicious treats here. I tried their Playa Vista location some time ago and it wasn't great, but I gave them a 5-star review hoping they'd get better? Well, it actually got worse! The staff were amazing, super friendly and all, but the food was terrible. The borscht and golubtsy were so salty they were practically inedible. Seriously, it was like eating completely different dishes and really unpleasant. Sane goes for other dishes. Nothing was actually tasty. Three other people I was with had the exact same feedback at the end. In addition to the the dessert we ordered they gave us a free dessert, claiming it filled with dulce de lece aka "boiled condensed milk", but it was gross. It wasn't the condensed milk at all. Tasted like that awful cream from Le Balkon that all Russian stores supply their desserts from. Just nasty. And the new location? It's tiny, dark, and just depressing. No natural light at all. You really don't want to hang out there, let alone go back. Honestly, even though the staff were great, the food and atmosphere were such a letdown. We will not be going back there. read more

I still remember my first time having borsch or borscht at a hole-in-the-wall deli specializing in Eastern European foods and goods almost 10 years ago! The bright crimson soup with a dollop of sour cream was so foreign to me at the time, but I had no trouble polishing it off with some chicken pelmeni and a cold sandwich. Naturally, when I learned that a Ukrainian restaurant opened in LA, I immediately bookmarked the Playa Vista location back in early May 2023. Funny that I ended up visiting their second location in Mid-Wilshire though, which appears to have opened in December 2023 (kudos to the owners for expanding from their mail-order business to opening two restaurants within a year - what a feat). After spending some time at a local museum in Miracle Mile last weekend, my partner and I were starving, so after checking online to see what restaurants were around, he mentioned "Mom, Please" and I immediately said "YES, we're going there". The good: + Owners have great taste in decorating the interior AND exterior as the use of natural materials really bring a homey feel and warmth to the small restaurant + Ceramic tableware created by a Ukrainian artist that's also currently based in LA + All the dishes we ordered came with a side of sour cream + Menu consists of a variety of foods and drinks that makes sense in LA: sandwiches, pancakes, shakshuka, toast, salads, bagel, soup, coffee, and tea to name a few + Uniquely Ukrainian: borsch, holubtsi, mlyntsi, pelmeni, syrnyky, and varenyky + Self-serve water dispenser + Business hours run from 8am - 8pm daily + Fridges are stocked with pre-made dumplings which can be purchased online or in-store + Dog-friendly?! Noted the dog/pet bowls near a side table The food: * Holubtsi with Turkey ($18) - delicious, but quite small. Mixture of ground turkey, bell peppers, onions wrapped in cabbage and baked in a personal cast iron pan with tomato sauce and two halved cherry tomatoes. Sprinkled with some chopped greens for color and cup of sour cream on the side. This was probably my favorite dish, but I wish it came out last as it was the most flavorful and so the other two dishes kind of paled in comparison. * Pelmeni Beef ($18) - 13 beef dumplings with a side of sour cream. Other than the steep price for dumplings, we liked this simple dish very much. I even dipped the pelmeni in the leftover tomato sauce from the holubtsi and it was just scrumptious. * Mlyntsi with Chicken & Mushrooms ($22) - this dish came out last and right off the bat, I thought it was strange that the microgreens was discolored. Half of the greens were already turning yellow! Perhaps the cook thought we wouldn't eat greens, but we actually do, so this was very disappointing. These three egg crepes were filled with chicken and mushrooms and sat on a creamy mushroom sauce and sprinkled with parmesan and not the freshest-looking microgreens. The so-so/bad: - Street parking only, so good luck - Breakfast foods served only from 8:30am - 1pm - Service was average - Prices are unduly expensive, especially for what you get - Suggested tip on screen shows left to right starting from 22%, 20%, and 15% but you have to order everything first at the counter - No public restroom - Even with three dishes, we were both still hungry read more
