After trying Sephora after all these years (since it's not as near to me) I now see why I have been dissatisfied with Ulta in Edgewater, NJ. The sales girls mean well, but they are not trained makeup artists. They don't understand which makeup colors work in on different skin tones. I don't mean light or dark skin. I mean warm or cool tones regardless of dark or light skin. At Sephora today, the sales girl already knew which lipsticks would be too bright on me and which shadows would work. I didn't have to return anything from Sephora today (they allow a 30 day return). Ulta has made it clear, they too, have a liberal return policy after trying it, but who wants to guess what will look good? Ulta has no samples. Sephora does have samples that the sales girl will strike on her arm with clear plastic gloves, so you can see how the color comes out. Ulta, try this, even if you don't hire and train well. read more

The good things about this place is that it is in a great location, and the store is very clean. There are a few things that I was not impressed with about this store. 1st of all it took forever for someone to actually stop to ask if I needed help. I then tried to explain to the lady about my previous make up, while I was explaining she kept looking around and not making eye contact with me. I asked her of she was the wrong person for me to be talking with. She seemed very distracted like I was bothering her. She finally pointed me in the direction of some makeup and just left. I was very displeased with the customer service at the Ulta. I have been to many Ultas in the past and I will not be returning to this Ulta unless it is to return the product that I got. The reason I say that is because I am not sure I got the right shade for my skin, but no one would assist me with that. read more

I just started going to this Ulta although prior to that I've been a long time client of Ulta in Queens and Manhattan. After first moving to Edgewater, I started going to Blu salon because it was closer to my apt but after a few months of being ripped off & having the stylists be rude to me, I decided to go back to Ulta. My new stylist is Yvonne and she's my reason for writing this review. I found her to be incredibly friendly and professional and she did a fantastic job. I had a root touch up and she changed my color. I was very happy with the results & she did a great blow dry as well, I was really impressed with it. It lasted almost the whole week and even when I combed it, it looked fabulous, if not better. My only small criticism is of the Ulta location itself, not of her, but in other locations I've been to I've always been offered a beverage ~water, coffee or tea (I think tea was an option anyway, I only ever got coffee or water) and I wasn't offered any beverage at this location at either my consultation or my appt (although they did give me a bottle of water when I asked for some). It seems like a small thing but it really adds a lot to the overall experience IMO & has added a more upscale feel to the other locations I've been to so I am taking off a star for it. But as for the service itself, I would strongly recommend Yvonne as a stylist, she's really excellent. I've been going through a bit of a rough time financially but if I could afford it, I would've gladly given her even more than a 20% tip! read more

My local store is convenient for a quick stop when I need to get my cosmetics or any other beauty product. I went to the Edgewater location with my 20% coupon and my free birthday item coupon and a great attitude just to get the most miserable and rude cashier I have ever come across. After I handled her my birthday coupon, she got super annoyed that I asked for my free mascara (offered by the company that employs her) everything went downhill from there. I had two items to returned with no receipt which she declined saying that I used most of it and per company policy I had to have my receipt anyway I decided to keep the items and move on. Well, after she scanned all my items I asked her to use my point ($8 worth to be exact) she said I didn't have any available points and continue to give me a cold and sarcastic attitude. I love makeup and every time I come here I feel horrible. Whenever I buy makeup, I never have any on, so I can see my skin tone and all my issues so I can buy the correct products. The girls on the floor act very condescending and it's very clear from the reviews that customer service is not the best. There's always a guard walking around and staring people down. Whenever I swatch I have to be clear that I'm not stealing it, because he's staring like I'm not supposed to be swatching. They don't really have that in sephora, and sephora actually sells really expensive makeup. The checkout line is always a mess, and overall experience is not that great. The store is clean and nice, but I'll be looking elsewhere for my makeup. Shame, I live right there and would've loved to frequent this location. I love the location of this Ulta. You can walk around the area which boasts awesome views of NYC. The re is other shopping and some cool restaurants in this location too. It is all outside. Parking on the main area can be tough but there is a parking deck with an elevator where you can always find a spot. My suggestion.....park, shop, eat and walk around. I have to give the utmost credit to this Ulta. I had had my hair done there and the first girl that I went to made a mistake - which was albeit, traumatizing. She was thorough but unfortunately, mistakes happen and the colors in my hair bled during the washing process. Suffice to say, I was very upset. The girl called me on the phone and tried to give me tips to correct the color through treatments but they failed and eventually I went in and gave a piece of my (not calm whatsoever) mind to the salon manager and the store manager. The two of them obviously could tell my hair was subpar and by subpar I mean a train wreck. They were so calm and so sympathetic offering everything under the sun to rectify the problem. I must say it took a certain level of class and good customer service to keep calm during the wrath of fury I was bestowing on them. Long story short, they compensated for the error greatly and offered to redo my hair. The salon manager wound being the one to do it and I had low hopes for what could be done. Not only was she quick as lightening but I have actually never liked my hair more. Somehow, she pulled it off. She was so good and so fast and voila! I actually LOVE my hair. I am very impressed at how they were able to turn a very negative experience into a very positive one. I can't say the same for many brands today. read more

Ulta speaks for itself by name, and this particular branch holds to the standard you'd expect. Clean, organized, up-to-date, vast array of products (even some hard to find ones), and employees who don't ever seem to be far off reach and availability. These people also seem to be genuine in their help, and best of all, their management is very helpful too - not the kind who hides in an office, or behind their employees. Love this place. I gave this 5 stars, but my only gripe is the indefinite "line formation" by the registers when it gets busy. Sometimes, you don't know where to stand, and even if there is a line, there's good opportunity for someone to cut you without knowing. even considering this, i don't think it merits a -1 star, i'm not rating feng shui here - the products, service, and team are a 5 on this scale. read more

I always have trouble finding a great place to get my nails done since I bathe dogs all day they seem to come off the next day, but Devon must have the magic touch! I have also had my hair done and not only did it come out great, I learned how to maintain my hair so I can do it at home. Then when I asked to about hair products, she went out of her way to show me affordable and great products to use. I've always been a fan of Ulta, it's like the more down to earth cousin of Sephora. They carry high end products but they also have an entire section of Loreal, Revlon etc. I had a gift card I wanted to use and since I was in the Promenade area anyway figured I'd stop here. I was greeted immediately and noticed a lot of customer/staff interaction going on which is nice. I was in the market for a new tinted moisturizer so I started looking around and Lexi the queen of sales found me and asked what she could help me with. This girl could sell ice to eskimo, she was fast talking, super friendly, aggressive but not in a pushy way and had a bottle in my hand so quick my head was spinning. She informed me that although tinted moisturizers are kind of fazing out (idk if she meant for Ulta or in general, but I like my tinted moisturizers so that better not be a for life thing), so she showed me a lightweight 3 in1 product by Ckone. Who knew Calvin Klein made makeup? Apparently only for Ulta. I'm not a big fan of liquid foundations, don't really feel like I need one, my skin is nice and I don't like heavy feeling stuff but this one was ok. I wore it this weekend and like it, it feels light on my face and the color is a good match without looking made up for everyday use. After she got me set up with my new makeup I browsed the store, grabbed a new hairbrush to replace the one my dog ate, and made my way out. It was a great shopping experience and I was happy with my purchase, I'd def go see this girl the next time you need some beauty products, she knows her shit. read more

I've been to the beauty salon before and it was And average experience. What I have gone through yesterday was beyond below average. It was horrendous! I came in for a simple shampoo and blow out. The stylist, Li, was less than accommodating by shooting ice cold water on my head without even asking me how I prefer the temperature. Most salons will ask before they even how is your head down! Alarmingly so, I had to tell her that the water was way too cold. Then she still didn't ask me how I wanted it, and instead turn it to boiling hot and shot my head with Hot water to the point where I had to raise my voice and tell her that it was not only to hot, but she should ask me how I wanted the water before proceeding again. I told her that most salons ask the client as a courtesy before the wash starts. Well, this Lee person accuse me of being rude just because she didn't like what I said to her. She had the audacity to tell me I was being rude and that she would get someone else to do my hair. I responded In pure shock and said to her, REALLY????? And she says to me, YES! REALLY! It got worse with her attitude snapping back at me and accusing me of being rude when it's the other way around so I asked for a manager. Then another woman walks into the room and stands in front of me staring at me without saying a word. Just standing there and staring at me with cold eyes. So I asked her if she was the manager. She responded with a yes but with a very stoic cold nature. Didn't even bother to ask me what the issue was because though. Only says yes I'm the manager and I will be doing your hair. I asked the manager will you be looking into a situation that just occurred? I gave her the details and her response was she was not going to address with the stylist Lee until after she finished wth me because she has to seep another client to do my hair. She then mocks me by saying his do you want the water temperature ? While I'm standing there dripping wet with cold water from my head. It was the strangest ButI've seen from a salon manager. At the end she didn't charge me for the service which made it better but still not happy with the way the whole situation was handled. Honestly I don't think the manager really cared about the customer either she was only concerned about how her stylist felt. She didn't address it with her afterwards I can tell because the manager walked right out of the store to go on a break and had a jolly time with some other coworker. I like Ulta in general. I've been to a few locations and I am happy with any purchases I make there. I never really have an issue using the coupon. My gripe is with the "salon" -- it's a glorified super cuts. I wet there ~ 9months ago for a cut and style and the lady did a HORRIBLE job!! Just needed to run in and color match here on a product quick. The store is in a great location, with lots of other shopping nearby. I was able to quickly run into the store, find what I needed, and have an associate help me color match. She definitely knew what she was doing and could tell if a color was no good before even applying it. No line at the checkout. I was in and out in a matter of 10 minutes. The only downfall is that you may have to park a bit away and walk to the store outdoors because of the way the Promenade is set up. read more

Would give this place a negative star if possible. Absolutely horrendous service, their workers are unresponsive and lazy. I've come four different times within the span of two weeks and even though the brow bar closes at 7pm (according to their website), they never have anyone to man the brow bar past apparently 6pm. Since most human beings work (though apparently not their brow stylist), it's impossible to get out in time to get your eyebrows done here. I'd highly recommend that you avoid this Ulta at all costs.
