First of all this is about MAC inside of Ulta.. the makeup artists stood around saying they needed lunch and didn't really seem like they wanted to do my makeup. Finally someone started doing my makeup and she is still in training. She didn't even know how to blend or do eyeliner. She also talked me out of using max eyelashes saying they suck and to purchase some and go over to benefit counter and the lady there could apply them.. that's why I did bc after seeing how horrible my makeup was I didn't want her putting lashes on me. I've been using Mac products for years and their services and this was the worst ever. Her trainer smelled like pure cigarettes, his breath and his hands when applying my eyeliner. It was such an awful experience I will Never get my makeup done at MAC again. read more

i had an amazing experience, i didn't catch her name but she was so sweet and helped me get the right shade with foundation, concealer, highlight, blush, literally everything and she even took the time to talk to us like if we were friends, she's a sweetheart. I'm a little new to makeup and i had no idea what brands i was using before but she took her time with my friends and she hooked me up with good makeup, we even said good bye to her when we were walking out, she's also really funny!! The manager at this store is horrible. I have spent thousands of dollars at this ulta and every time I get a new coupon they are out of stock and she refuses to honor the coupon on any similar product. This has happened with Mac, Fenty and dry bar. She has no customer service loyalty for all the money we spend in that store. She will say no to everything as if it's her own money. How about a little loyalty to the customer service.....oh we're sorry we can't honor your coupon because we are out of stock but here is something else because you just spent $200!! This review is for the salon. Specifically for "elite stylist" (or lazy stylist) Arati B. I am extremely upset with how my hair has turned out. Upon making my appt, I told the receptionist on the phone that I wanted my whole head dyed blonde, & she put me down for a full highlight. I'm not very hair savvy, so I didn't know if that was correct (it was not). The estimate I got for that was $160 (sounded reasonable because that is WAYYYY too cheap lol). I also needed a haircut -- about 9" off. On the phone I asked to come in at 1 PM because that's when I make all my appointments & apparently the receptionist put me down for 1245. So I walked into the salon at 1:03. When I sat down with the stylist, I felt immediately uncomfortable as she didn't smile, didn't initiate conversation, & acted distant. So I began to initiate conversation by telling her what I would like. I showed her pics of the haircut & the dye style. She went on to go "ummmmmm" & didn't speak much at first. I got anxious because I knew she clearly had some kind of issue in so I asked "I'd like this -- IF possible." Arati aggressively snapped "well considering that you're 20 minutes late, idk if we can do that." Her tone was so rude that I almost left. But I tried to clarify with her that my appt was at one, & she insisted it was 1245. I apologized several times, I should've went with my gut & just left. The dye job that I wanted turned out to be nearly 3 times as much as I was told on the phone (according to Arati & I truly feel that she just didn't want to do it so she stressed me about how long it takes & talked me out of it). We decided to do money pieces with a halo effect. When it was done, I was happy with it. BUT she insisted several times that it didn't need to be toned regardless of me telling her I planned on dying it BABY pink. It was very yellow in some spots & brassy in other spots. Now, I may not know a lot about hair, but I do know that toning hair is essential after bleaching, especially if you're adding color because it could affect said color. I noticed that she anxiously brought up how it didn't need to be toned several times (at least 3 times without me prompting it). I truly feel that she, an "ELITE" stylist that has been doing hair for 20 years, knew better & just didn't want to spend anymore time on my hair. After we finished I tipped her 45%, despite her initial rudeness (she did act nicer as the day went on although it was clearly fake & basic customer service). I was willing to look past the initial, rude first impression. So of course, when I went home & dyed my hair, the dye job looks like sh*t afterwards. & I've done this exact dye job to myself 2 times before using the same dye, so ik it was not me. There were different colored spots all over. & the part where it was really yellow, wouldn't hold the dye. What's crazy is after I had my hair done by her, I walked around Ulta to get some products & I saw her with no customers for the entire hour & a half that I was there. I think she might've even left but I'm not sure of that. Was it really necessary to bust my balls about being late when you didn't even have any customers coming in??? Horrible customer service. We arrived at 8:50 and left at 9:03 I just wanted to look around since I am looking at blow dryer and curling iron styling tools. There was a guy who offered to help since they are closing and I thankfully said we will come back since there is about to close time. On our way out he was running a cart behind us and felt weird. Amazing service and friendly staff. I just finished full highlights and cut, prices are comparable to any other salon. My total with some purchase came out to $254. I would highly recommend working with Aarti, she has over 19 years of experience. I believe hair color and cutting is truly an art, I once went to beauty school--I know it's not a easy job. I went to their Mac section to get my makeup done for my birthday the person from Mac that started doing my makeup was Tonya she's a very friendly lady but I didn't like how she did my makeup she had other makeup artist who was there to help her. One person (whose name I didn't get) declined because she was afraid that I may not like it which sucked because as a makeup artist where is your confidence anywho Hebo whose a cashier came and redid my makeup for me. She was very nice and fun and did such an amazing job and made sure that I was satisfied. I really believe she should be one of their makeup artist versus their cashier because she has talent. Having been to a Brow Spa in Ulta Wheaton location, I knew what they did to help patrons up their brow game. I went twice then gave up because I was not impressed. Deciding to give it another go, made appointment for a Friday eve the week before Christmas. As lucky as can be, I met with LaNisa. She took the time to listen, assess, and listen some more. Finding the perfect shade to tint my straight and thin brows, she applied, removed and then waxed them to a perfectly arched perfection which I never had before. What is with the employees of this ulta? Even my husband has said the same things as me when he has come in with me. Apparently if you work at Ulta you are better then everyone else. God forbid you have any questions. You will either get one of two responses. 1) Someone giving you a dirty look of "how dare you waste my time" and then brushing you off. or 2) Insulting craptastic response. I have the problem of bitting my nails subconsciously. I was looking for one of those bitter nail polishes so if I go to bite my nails this could snap me out of it. When I asked the worker if they had anything like that they actually laughed at me and said to go to pet smart and buy some bitter spray that is used for cats and dogs when they chew furniture. Seriously. I sent an e-mail to corporate about this but they never got back to me. How incredibly rude. A simple, No we don't carry anything like that would have been fine but I guess when you work at Ulta and you are Gods gift to the earth you can talk to people like crap. read more

I like this Ulta location because it isn't as busy and the layout of the store is better than the Aurora Ave. Naperville location. On a Monday night, there were at least 4 employees in the store. One cashier, one salon, and two in the prestige cosmetics area. Instead of asking if I needed any help (I like to be asked once, and then leave me alone), the girls began doing each other's make-up. So unprofessional. As a former employee, I know none of the sales associates are trained in the product, so asking for help (other than, "where is...") is pointless. They just recite what they're read in magazines or heard about the product. But, unlike my repeated experiences at 3 Sephora locations, they always have what I want in stock. China Glaze nail polish, Urban Decay palettes, Marc Jacobs perfume, etc. Something is up with their nail polish section though. There's almost nothing in stock with Essie. The displays looks like a liquidation sale. The warehouse in Romeoville automatically ships items, so I can only suspect that there's a high theft rate with Essie polish. Nothing else explains this mystery. read more

This store is much better than others in the area in terms of stock and layout but customer service gets zero stars. I've noticed on several occasions that no one is available to help and employees are rude (I once heard an employee tell a customer "oh, no, she wasn't talking about you" when the customer overheard a negative comment on the headset/walkie talkie thing). Nonetheless I know what I want in the store and I don't want to chit-chat so it's never really bothered me. Until today. Today I bought a new straightener and took it home to find there was NO STRAIGHTENER IN THE BOX (to be fair it had a free tote bag inside as part of a promo so it didn't feel lighter than others). I had to get back in the car and make a beeline back to the store before closing. I brought it back to the same girl I purchased from about an hour prior and explained the situation. Rather than acknowledge me or my inconvenience, she acted so annoyed. She begrudgingly helped but not without eye rolls. I left feeling like I had truly bothered her and had done something wrong, despite the fact that they had initially sold me a $100 box. I went in today with my two daughters , and we had the pleasure of being helped by John . He was fantastic, courteous and definitely knowledgeable of his makeup , and techniques. He helped my 13 apply eye makeup for the first timers , and knew just how to talk to her and explain it . He took the time to answer my questions and my 16 year old , as she had questions about facial cleansers. John deserves a raise, and for sure a Bonus ! I made an appointment at the hair salon at Ulta and my hair colorist did a good job on my highlights. I was happy with the results. But when she gave my bill she left immediately before I had a chance to review it over with her. She ended up charging me for a style I didn't get and on top of that she was an hour late for the appointment that I set a week before coming in. And if that wasn't bad enough my color faded five days after my appointment, I used shea moister color safe co wash..ONCE. I did make an other appointment to fix the color fade and was told by corporate that I should not have to pay for it. Corporate also refunded me the portion of my bill for the hair style I didn't get and for the 20 percent discount first time salon goers are suppose to receive through a virtual gift card sent to my email. i have never been so bummed about a "facial" appointment in my life. I had an appointment today at 2:15 with Irina. I checked in and was seated and told she would be right with me. Finally at 3:00 i decided to walk out. I never even got the facial. nobody ever came back to check to make sure someone was helping me. I heard Irina paged to the salon but she never showed up. I looked forward to this facial ALL week long. Ulta definitely lost a customer today with their extremely poor customer service. read more

I personally LOVE this Ulta! The ladies here have always went above and beyond for me. Artie (I think I'm spelling her name correctly, sounds like R T) went above and beyond for my wedding. They didn't even open till 11 am on the Sunday I was getting married, but the girls all came in for me and my wedding party at 9 am. That is service. Plus my hair looked phenomenal for my wedding! The only time I step foot in another Ulta is when I'm out of state, otherwise, this is the only one I will go to. Any Ulta girl has always been eager to help me. read more

I had to make an exchange because I bought the wrong shampoo. The store didn't open until 10:00 am. I arrived at 9:50am and didn't realize they opened at 10:00. The girl inside (who was far to fat and far to ugly to have the attitude that she had) rolled her eyes and ignored me. I banged harder on the door and she moved so I could no longer see her. Another employee walked up as I was still standing there and they both ignored me. I demanded to speak to a manager and they just left me outside waiting. Errgh... I just got a bad haircut here. I am not going to name who gave me the haircut. It seemed like she tried to give me what I wanted, but the execution was poor... Now I look uneven all over the place. I actually went back a few minutes after realizing it and she took a min. to try to fix it... still didn't do much good. I didn't ask for anything difficult... just a little layering around the face. If I pay $40 for 1/2 an hour of your time, I do expect you to know what you're doing. I know it's not a fancy salon but come on... did you flunk out of beauty school or what? From a "master designer", All for top dollar, I expect mastery and the total package, NOT - excuses why my all hair won't be straight by being blow dried, no attempts to use the curing iron to make it straight and attempting to substitute another product in search for the Shine I was requesting. I chose this stylist cause I watched her give complete service to someone with short hair before. I gave her a second shot after the 1st service when she complimented by curly mane, washed, cut, fluffed and got me out of her chair in Record time. There is an element of Bias by ethnicity as well, but that's her personal problem. I will just choose not to patronize Ulta! This industry anticipates a gratuity, that is Often totally undeserved!!! read more

I made a purchase Monday evening, the 18th of May for a bottle of Pureology Shampoo, which carries a price tag of $27.50. I was charged twice - two different amounts. I have my receipt. Today is the 21st of May. Customer Care is the go to for resolution of the issue which I reported yesterday, after the two debits had hard posted to my account. Today there is no update. I discovered that after they "look in" to the charges and determine I am correct - they mail a check. And if Corporate can not figure out the mistake, then they can look at the camera in the store. Two seconds to take the money out of my account. Weeks to get it back. The clerk made no mention that something went wrong. I will assume that she made an error. The store was not busy when I was there at 5:26pm, register #5, transaction #5496, store #245. I was charged $29.63 & $25.43. Mistakes happen. Absolute indifference and communication are unforgivable. Accurate time line information as to when Corporate might resolve the matter (7-10 business days) was not given. That this amount of time is needed to correct the problem reflects very poorly on Ulta's reputation. It took only seconds for Ulta to remove the money from my account for a transaction that was not mine. read more

I would highly recommend that you not get a job at this Ulta. The managers are spiteful and mean. If they schedule you just 1 day a week and not put up the schedule yet for the next week and if they don't like you, they will not give you your schedule over the phone. They actually tell you that you'll have to drive there to get your schedule. So spiteful. And forget ever getting sick. Even if you're throwing up, they tell you it is unexcused since you didn't get a sub. If you ask for help during training, they are so impatient and roll their eyes and even pushed you aside to get to the cash register. These ladies should not be managers. They should be sent to training and learn how to treat people. read more

I have been to many Ulta stores and have really never had any problems. Well today I went to the Ulta in Oswego and purchased 3 OPI nail polishes, they were buy 2 get 1 free. The girl at the register was new (I know because she told me this) and was having a problem ringing up the free polish and the coupon that I had. Another girl in the store, a manger perhaps, came up to the front to help her. She told the girl that it would come up and then took my coupon, crumbled it up, and said we don't take this any more. My coupon was apparently expired by 2 days, now I completely understand that was my mistake and they don't have to take it but how about a little less attitude about it. A simple "Sorry ma'am we can no longer accept this coupon," would have done just fine. And how about not leaving the poor new girl by herself at the register while you and the other employees sit in the back and talk to each other, do you think the customers do not notice things like this. I agree with the other posts here! I was here a couple days ago to stock up on some Mario Badescu stuff, usually I go the one on Rt. 59 because they have a bigger selection on MB and they have a bigger ULTA but I was in a hurry and this location is closer to me. Anyways, instead of just buying MB products, I ended up getting some makeup and paid a total of $110! LOL yes, I am an impulsive buyer at times, but as I was paying for it, I asked the cashier if I could have any discounts, (you know those $3.00 or $5.00 off you get in the mail or magazines), and she said, "Yes, but it doesn't apply to any of the things you bought." Really? A discount is a discount!! But whatever, I didn't mind. So I walked back to my car and checked my goodies, and realized, I accidentally picked up the MB Drying Cream instead of the MB eye cream I wanted, (they were both in the same white jars), so I go back and Lil Ms. Can't Give You A Discount gives me a dirty look! So I run back to the MB counter and get the eye cream so I can exchange it, I wait patiently at the line and when it was my turn, she quickly, called another cashier to do the exchange!! How Rude!! But I was glad I didn't have to deal with her attitude again! UGH! read more

Update: While the esthetician was wonderful - very talented and good with my rather shy teen daughter, our 3:30 appointment started almost a half hour late.We sat by the salon area without anyone updating us as to how late the makeup person was running. AND - I don't think the woman knew she was scheduled to work past 4, as her friend came in the store to get her and proceeded to have a 15 min conversation with all of us, while Rae was supposed to be teaching my girl how to apply makeup. The idea was the Ulta lady would do 1/2 my girl's face, my daughter would do the other half, then she'd wash it all off and my daughter would try the same techniques on her entire face. We WAY ran out of time as we had a commitment at 5pm so my daughter practicing did not happen.I ended up scribbling down the product names and colors while the esthetician ran to find the lip gloss we did end up purchasing. I feel like I paid $30 plus a nice tip for not much learning, although my girl's makeup looked very pretty when we left. So while Rae the makeup lady gets 5 stars for personality and technique, the fact is due to her running late and I believe being unaware she had our appointment, I don't feel like I got what I paid for. read more

I went to the Oswego, IL location and intended to use the 20% off coupon on the two items I was purchasing which totaled over $50. I was told that the coupon excludes "prestige" items. No where on the product does it say "prestige" and after doing some research I found on your website a list of brands you exclude from the coupon. Not only would the list be shorter if you listed what the coupon CAN be used on, but nowhere in the store does it say that prestige = major brands. This seems like a bait and switch or a way to con costumers into spending more because they are expecting a discount from a coupon. It's Christmas and the lines were long so I simply said "Okay" and I paid full price but if this is the way Ulta does business than the coupons should clarify that all "Major Brands including..." instead of "prestige" since that is to the discretion of the employee due to the packaging not saying prestige. read more

During my trip in I call 20 minutes ahead to see if they had a certain collection in stock. They confirmed they had it and that it was set. I go into the store and there's no merchandise out just the displays and I asked the sales associate if she could go get one for me. She went to her manager and he refused to sell it to me saying he will not set it out till Thursday no exception then rolled his eyes and began talking about me one I'll away. This manager is More about gossiping and hanging out not doing anything then he is servicing the customers. I have been in the store multiple times when he's busy trash talking other associates at work for him and spends more time gossiping that actually putting out freight and helping the customers. Following leaving the store with nothing I called another location and they held them up front for me and Kindly sold them to me so my business will be going elsewhere. I feel bad for the associates working there as they are belittles them and it's very insulting and discusses their personal business in front of all the other customers. read more
