I was not offered any assistance by any representative. I had questions and probably would have spent at least $200. I asked a woman helping another customer if she could page someone to help me. She instructed me to go to the counter and ask her to page someone. I went to the counter and the woman basically told me there was no one to help. There was a long line. I walked around with $200 worth of stuff but ended up setting it down and walking out. I couldn't find an item I was looking for and wasn't really sure the products I selected on my own were good for me. This is a serious customer service failure on your part. I can't say I'll be back. Update: I'm going to update the two stars to 5 stars. Only because I went in on 12/24 for primer and was asked if I needed help by your amazing new sales guy Ronald. Now if for any reason Ronald decides he isn't going to work here anymore I'm demoting this Ulta back to 2 stars. So basically this 5 star review is dependent on the employment of Ronald. He was amazing. He's super helpful and knows his craft. He also mattified me while I was there. And by basic I mean "What aisle is this lipstick on?" or "What time do you close ?", then this is the spot for you. I went in looking for a new foundation color and something that would give me more coverage. I heard about IT cosmetics and so I went to that section and attempted to pick a color for myself. With only 4 colors to choose from you think it would be easy. So when I did ask someone for help she assisted me and when I went home the color was totally off. So I returned everything the next day and someone more helpful assisted me in getting the correct match. Now I'm an IT cosmetics girl but because their customer service isn't what I normally expect I will probably buy online or at another store. So my advice to you is If you're looking for some level of knowledge or expertise in makeup that's above your own this definitely isn't the place for you. I suggest you hightail it to Sephora or the nearest department store makeup counter where the girls are experienced, use the product or have knowledge about it! read more

I usually am pretty good at ignoring how rude the employees are, since I don't know if they have personal problems going that are affecting their attitude on that particular day. I know it's not an excuse for poor customer service, but that is beside the point. I went in on my lunch hour to purchase some eyebrow gel. The line was about 10 deep with one cashier. I know that is not the cashiers fault so I try to be patient. I get to the register to pay and I swipe my card and the reader says 'card error." My card is old and I am waiting on a new card to arrive, but I know that the numbers can be manually inputted. The cashier acted like I was asking her to cut off her arm when I asked if she could enter my card manually. She did something and it wouldn't work so she basically told me there was nothing she could do. I said ok, thanks I will wait for my new card then because I don't have cash and she let out a loud sigh and asked the manager to come delete the purchase. The decline was not due to not having money, but due to the strip on the card not working, but she treated me like I had no money and was trying to steal something and her or the manager did not offer a solution. I have had my card manually entered there before, and I feel this chick was just not happy about having to work the register (she was waxing eyebrows and got called to the front). I will never go there again. I hope that the management of this store is (The Collection) is reading and the rude customer services complaints are taken seriously. ULTA's pretty much got your back. I come here solely for products, I get my salon fix elsewhere (reason unrelated to Ulta). SO, I'm just gonna tell it like it is.. PROS: *wide variety of products *many brands to choose from *common drugstore brands (Neutrogena,CoverGirl, Maybelline, L'Oreal, Rimmel London, NYC, Palladio, Almay, Sally Hansen, etc) *higher-end brand names (Sue Devitt, smashbox, Benefit, stila, Tarte, Lorac, Cargo, Urban Decay, PurMinerals, Murad, etc.) *clean, simple store layout *Ulta Rewards Card ( I HIGHLY RECOMMEND signing up for this! NO fees/obligations/etc., it takes about a minute or two, can be done at the register, and you get membership discounts every month. The points can add up to be redeemed for some free swag, but I do it for the discounts) *sweet customer service (the ladies who work here are courteous and efficient) *lots of little deals throughout the store (buy one get one half off, etc.) *more affordable products than Sephora *you can return what you don't like (even AFTER you've opened it!), the Ulta ladies are more than happy to help you make a quick and easy return/exchange (i just returned an icky Almay concealer for 4 bottles of Sally Hansen's nail polish with change to spare, there was a BOGO half-off deal! :D ) CONS: *Long(ish) lines at peak hours, although the line is usually minimal. *Sometimes they'll run out of a certain product that won't be available for another week or so. This has happened to me on a few occasions. Eh. Shit happens, life goes on. *If you're into pricier labels (Clinique, Lancome, Chanel, Dior, etc.) Ulta has a less diverse selection of these, and I suggest hitting up Sephora or department stores like Macy's, Nordy's, Bloomie's, etc.). Okay, I've heard Ulta being compared to Sephora quite often, usually in the context that it's not as great, blah blah blah. Please.. stop trying to compare it Sephora. They're two COMPLETELY different stores, offering a pretty distinct range of products! That being said, I'm perfectly happy buying my cosmetics and toiletries from Ulta, I'll use the money that I've saved (from not going to Sephora) towards a sick pair of wedges I've been eyeing. WARNING TO ALL! BEWARE! I have had my hair weaved for years. We recently moved to Oxnard & I tried ULTA. I have the opposite take as most of the complaints I've read here. The people were really nice to me, but their work at the salon was miserable. The first girl told me that she received more than others because she'd been working longer...more experienced, so I expected more. She was very nice. She told me she'd do a dye process instead, and against my better judgment, I conceded. Blonde? At the very front, but the back had a coppery, pinkish sheen. I called later to cancel my next appt & told the girl of my bad experience for a mere $110. She said I could come back & have it fixedat no extra charge...no! Don't want her touching my hair again. So she offered to have someone else do it & I accepted, worrying about hurting the other girl's feelings (how stupid is that ?). She bleached my entire head, told me she would get me a sandy blonde color...great! I saw the pale yellow and was thrilled...no brassy, honey-colored, coppery highlights. I loved it. Then she put a toner on it...now I am a strawberry blonde (which is really beautiful on some people...not me)! Color is a difficult thing. It truly is a science mixing the right chemicals. If you don't know what you are doing, don't charge people $100 for it & post a warning that it may not come out the color you asked for. It you think you know what you're doing & your client ends up with something else, say so, and take responsibility for it right then and there. From now on I will not allow stylists to talk me into anything, unless I ask for their advice. If I ask for a weave, I want to get a weave...not what some stranger thinks I should have. So, very nice people, but horrible work, and I am going to drive back to Simi Valley to get my hair done with Paige Ryder at Euphoria's. NEVER had this problem with her! read more

I would give Ulta one star, but sometimes they are not horrible. I've never gotten better than 3-star service from them, though, so average is 2 stars. Example: I decided to have the salon sstyle my hair. Not cut it, but do a wash and blow dry. I am very careful about what products I use in my hair, and asked the stylist if they had sulfate free shampoos, and silcone free styling products. She said, "we use Redken." Ooo-kay. That didn't exactly answer my question, so I asked it again, explaining, "Ok, but are any of those sulfate free/silicone free? What I mean is, I don't use sulfates so I would want a sulfate free shampoo, and I don't use silicones, so even though I want my hair straightened, I'm hoping you can do that with a silicone free styler." Now, I'm asking these questions in a salon/store surrounded by beauty products, so I honestly didn't think that it would be a problem. Right? Wrong! The woman looks around, and finally unearths (at a fellow stylist's station) a bottle of shampoo that she says is sulfate free. Its a Redken shampoo, so I guess they really have to stick with Redken. It must be some agreement they have. I'm ok with that, because Redken must have some styler we can use, I think. I mean, Redken makes a ton of products. Nope, apparently not. If it's not already opened and in use, they won't use it. But, the woman tells me, I'm welcome to buy any product I want and give it to her to use on my hair. Seriously?! They damage out products every day for dings and dents, but they can't mark out a bottle of creme or gel or whatever for use in their own salon for their own stylist to use, not just on me, but whomever else comes after me? Its not like I am asking them to give me the bottle. Nope, they want me to buy a product I've never tried (becuase I don't usually straighten my hair) and will probably never use again after this one time, and be stuck with it after they use it on me. Needless to say, I passed on getting the service done, I just stayed with my curly hair. I've had other experiences with their staff that were less than wonderful. Their sales people are inexperienced, unfriendly, and uninformed. They constantly give out wrong information about their promotions and coupons, and then don't know what the coupons are actually valid on. If one salesgirl says "you can't use this on this item" it's like, don't worry, just come back and give it to a different girl, chances are she'll take it because they don't know their own promos. The makeup women are nice, but they are corporate, not local, they travel around to different stores. The brow bar used to be awesome, but they started cutting corners and got really cheap and now it sucks. They do a bad job with the waxing and shaping now. Ulta doesn't have alot of makeup for ethnic women, either. And they need to have actual sales, it's impossible to actually save money on their "sales." read more

DO NOT GET MAKEUP/WAXING HERE! I used to go to the Benifit waxing all the time, there was this sweet girl that worked at the counter who did not have an attitude problem. There is a new Benifit girl who works at this counter who seems to have a problem doing anyones eyebrows (by appointment or not). Also, I paid $35 to get my makeup done by the Ulta "professional" who put RED on my eyes...I left feeling/looking horrible and washed off my makeup when I got to the car. She refused to let me see what was being done during the makeup job...which should have sent a red flag up in my head. Had a terrible experience at this location. It began well and ended up extremely upsetting. I went in with my mom because I had some spare time (about 50 min to kill before picking up my daughter from school) to shop around for a new mascara and get a blush for my mom. A young lady assisted us by suggesting a NARS blush and we selected one after trying a few options. I found my mascara and continued shopping around trying a few products on my mom since she was in need of a few things and wanted to get ideas on how to do her make up for an upcoming wedding. We soon realized we were constantly being watched and almost followed by staff members. We were asked multiple times if we needed help but it didn't seem sincere...it was more like a theft prevention tactic that I grew aware of. I continued shopping around, ended up purchasing about 5 products, and paid over $100+ at the register. I was so uncomfortable shopping that I didn't even want to reach into my bag for my cellphone JUST to prevent anyone from thinking I was stealing! This was by far the worst/humiliating experience I've ever had! I am a GM for a retail company and I understand theft prevention, but this was ridiculous!! I don't believe we were in any way acting suspicious other than walking around trying TESTER products which are there to be TESTED since I had a little extra time to spare before picking up my daughter down the street, and ended up actually purchasing items I tested and liked. I learned my lesson...I'll continue to shop online or next time know exactly what I want, pay, and leave immediately so this doesn't happen again. Ridiculous!!! read more

I agree with majority of these other reviews. I went in looking to buy a whole new set of make-up. Starting from concealer on up. I walk in and NOBODY even said hi to me. I'm looking like "uh? Hello...." But I only got eye contact and the last walked away. I've worked in customer service and even if you are busy you still make sure to recognize other people. So instead of buying anything I walked out, frustrated, and with nothing I needed. If I didn't have a gift card I wouldn't come back. I thought I'd get my hair cut at ULTA because the salon I regularly go to would not take me at the last minute. I may as well have gone to Supercuts. From the front, I look like I have a bowl haircut, and she hacked it in the back. She was very rough and forceful, as compared to the salon I normally go to, where they are gentle and are concerned about your whole salon experience. Their lead stylist who did my hair did not make my hair look like the internet picture I brought in, nor did it seem like she even made an attempt to do so. Scheduled makeup and hair appointment and both the ladies were late or not show up at all. The place was busy and only 2 people working for ulta and 3 other vendors. One lady was upset coz she couldnt find somebody to help her. The person at the Salon was irritated everytime someone asks her something. The Manager and other girl apologized to me about the appointment and said not to worry but I ended up calling a salon in Ventura last minute and left Ulta bec I waited 1.5 hrs and no person to do my hair and make-up. I've shopped at Ulta a few times, but every time I've been in there, they are out of stock on the products I'm looking for, they keep telling me they get shipments every Thursday and to put my name down on a list so they can call me when it comes in.
