It is really unfortunate that I'm going to be joining the bandwagon of women with a terrible business practice or story to tell at this Ulta Salon location. I wish I could tell a different story apart from some already been told, but unfortunately I am not. I saw Betty recently for what I thought was going to be a quick 30 minute hair curl. According to Ulta Salon prices, I expected to pay only $30 for the service. So I was scheduled for a maternity photoshoot and being 36 weeks pregnant, I thought it was such a bargain idea to be able to stop in somewhere and have someone just curl my hair quicky. I saw Betty for my appointment, who showered me with so much compliments and personal questions as soon as I got there. She asked if I worked, where I worked, if I owned a home, where I'm from, what area I lived in VA... definitely very personal questions. Nothing about what I wanted to get done and what my appointment was for. She went straight to spraying my hair with hairspray and curling my hair. She then had teased my hair to bring more volume to it. When it came time to pay, she fidgeted around with the cash register for a good 10 minutes, which I had found odd. Folded my invoice in half and sent me away to the cash register with a big hug. To my surprise, Betty had charged me $64.00 for the appointment, and this including a $16.00 discount for who knows what. Her justification for the invoice was this "When there is teasing I have to charge a formal style". I did like how my hair turned out but I usually go to Jon David Salon and it wouldn't be honest to say that she knew exactly what she was doing all throughout the appointment that what she did to my hair justified the cost. At the cash register I explained the situation to the associate and to the front register manager, and they both agreed to my complaint without contentions and got the salon manager for me. I am so appreciative of the salon manager, Nania, for hearing out my concerns before jumping into the conclusion that I just did not want to pay. My exact complaint was that Betty did not communicate to me what type of service she was rendering and that I'll be expected to pay twice the amount for it. If Betty had, I would have made that judgment call as a client, but Betty had decided what I was going to pay her. So to me as a customer, it was such a dishonest business practice to try to hustle your clients for more money by simply not saying anything until after the service. Additionally, if I were managing this salon I would ensure that staff communicate to clients recommendations and how it would raise or lower the cost of service; I would say this is a very basic business protocol. Nania did fix the error and charged me only what I expected to pay. As a customer I appreciated the outcome of the conversation I had with Nania, the salon manager, and doing so in a professional manner. No raised voice needed to solve it, just a conversation to help us both feel as though it was a fair transaction to me as well. But as a result of this experience, I have lost trust in their service and will definitely not return. read more
