Okay, okay, five stars might be a bit of a stretch, but for where they're located, upcountry in Kula, and what they serve I have to give 'em a great rating! The grill here came highly recommended by some locals we spoke with. The motif is kind of a cowboy, old western theme. The grill's menu reflects this, although the meals are somewhat of a fusion between cowpoke food and Hawaiian bbq. We ordered a variety of items for lunch. Kalbi ribs with rice and mac salad, I had a venison burger steak with gravy served alongside potato wedges and mac salad, we also ordered a hamburger and hot dog (actually a linguica dog). The food was impressive, to say the least. The cooking takes place on the porch outside the storefront where tables and benches are located. Everything was really good. The store offers a wide range of items from sodas, teas, and other beverages to souvenirs and just steps away you order food from the grill. All the staff were friendly and helpful. I will definitely plan to return next time I make it to Kula.

We like to drive out here on my days off because they have some great burgers and we like to support local business. The burgers are so good because they are fresh raised on Maui. The elk is a little leaner but honestly if you didn't tell most people would not know the difference between the two. If you want a less greasy option or a leaner option or if you just like to try different things I would definetly say try the elk or the venison. I like all of them but I would have to say the beef burger is my favorite. The Salad was very good and if you want you can just get the burger with a sal with no bun that is an option on the menu. The service is always good out side and at the front register Sometimes the lady in the deli area seems to be annoyed. Not always but at times. The decor is great and one of the reasons I like to drive out there. I feel like it is one of the few places on Maui that is still a lot like it used to be. I like the carved cowboys out front it reminds me of when I was a kid and my uncle worked for Haleakala ranch and I grew up Upcountry so it just brings back memories. I love this time of the year because of all the Monarch Butterflies in the trees outside. So you can see them while you're eating one of the many things that make Maui special. Definitely stop by especially if you are doing the winery tour. Just remember it's not fast food. It is the closest some people will ever get to fresh food so enjoy it. It is what it is really supposed to taste like delicious and fresh. I will definetly be going back we love the cheese burgers.

Perfect off the beaten path place to grab lunch. We both got a beef burger and you can taste that it's truly fresh meat. We split the Kalbi ribs and they were delicious!

We always stop in The Old Ulupalakua Ranch Store when going wine tasting at Maui Wine, which is across the street. We've ordered food here before, but this time we just browsed. They sell snacks and food; clothes; bath and body products; hats, jewelry, children's toys, books, and puzzles; and more.

For farm-raised, excellent quality meat, visiting Ulupalakua Ranch is a must. Reaching the area requires a bit of a long but scenic drive into the farm country in the south side of Maui. When you arrive, you can really appreciate the beautiful views. It goes without saying that the quality of the meat the restaurant serves here is very high. They offer venison, lamb, elk, and beef, and also have a taro patty option for vegetarian/vegan diets. They are well known for their burgers, but they also offer the meats in the form of hamburger steak plate lunches. I ordered the beef burger medium with bleu cheese, since they had a special running that week. My boyfriend ordered the lamb burger and topped it with portuguese sausage. My patty was slightly overcooked and was served closer to medium well/well-done, but my main issue was that the burger accoutrements don't do the burger any justice. If the burger bun had been slightly buttered and warmed, it would have made the eating experience even better. The lettuce/tomatoes/onion took away from my enjoyment as well, and at this point I wished I had gone for the hamburger steak plate lunch instead. Meanwhile, my bf thought his lamb burger was great, but wished he didn't top his burger with the portuguese sausage, as the flavor of the lamb was overpowered by the sausage. The ranch wasn't tourable, but exploring the store and the immediate surrounding area was a lot of fun- there are lots of cute little statues and souvenirs to find here. They only have a port-a-potty here, so I highly recommend paying their neighbors at MauiWine a visit just down the street for a wine flight and a pristine bathroom experience during your visit.

We came for the burgers... they are so good! Grilled to order and loaded with onion, tomatoes, and lettuce, with pickles on the side. Add your own condiments. There's plenty of outdoor seating, and a lovely country setting. The store itself offers plenty of interesting things for visitors and residents, such as t-shirts, signs, hats, leather goods, food items, beverages. Step back in time and experience a real old country store when you're driving around upcountry.

Must return for their burgers, South Maui The store is not well lit inside. My only regret while visiting this store was not being able to dine here and try their lamb, beef or their famous elk burgers. We had just finished lunch at another restaurant and were still full. The Grill is towards the back of the gift shop and I didn't go further inside and just browsed at their store. I did purchase a souvenir shirt. They had interesting items for sale. We actually just happened to stop here by accident. We were on our way to Manawainui Gulch but heavy rainfall prevented us from moving forward. It was actually a bit scary during the drive on the famous Highway 31 (Piilani Highway) in South Maui. We turned around and ended up here. I would love to come back and taste what I missed and maybe update my review! Ulupalakua Ranch is over 11,000 acres of historic land preservation along the leeward slopes of Haleakalā. It is a working ranch and wildlife habitat. There is a winery across the street. Review #2730

Loved this charming little OG roadside store and grill is located on the scenic green hills of Ulupalakua in Kula, Maui. It hit the spot after traveling and driving the windy road. . Their made to order burgers are the best! You can get them in beef, venison, bison, elk but you're out of luck if you' want ostrich. The meat is 100% natural which makes for a clean, unadulterated and delicious burger. My medium rare elk burger was tender, not too greasy, and did not leave me feeling heavy like beef burgers often do. SO GOOD!! Other options to choose from besides burgers and you can buy drinks, snacks and souvenirs as well. Dine outside overlooking beautiful pastures in the clean upcountry air. Take pictures with old paniolo statues.

If you go to visit Maui Wine and are hungry, walk across the street to this restaurant. They have a variety of burgers from beef to elk. All beef comes from their cattle farms. Our burgers were delicious. The shop inside has a lot of cool souvenirs to take back home. They only have porta potty's for restrooms. Seating is outside on porch or at the tables. Great views!

Covid: all staff wearing masks. Tables outside are spaced apart. Too excited to try these burgers and forgot to take pics of both burgers‍, but let me tell you the lamb and elk burgers are delicious!!! My hubby had already came here once and bragged and bragged about it so when he finally brought me, I let him choose what to order. We shared both burgers and fries. Cold bottled Coke and horses in the background for the win!! Located: across from Maui wine so a great place to walk to for some good food after some wine. Store: Cute little store with sooo many goodies. Staff: very friendly... not that that's surprising here on Maui!

What a quaint store this is! The people who work here are very kind. I stopped in for a bag of chips since I hadn't eaten in a while. They were great!

For some reason, the couple with no reservation was seated before us and we did not get seated until about 10 mins after our reservation time while the couple ahead of us got seated within 5 mins of arriving. It made no sense to me and we were all seated inside. I would've thought we would've been seated before a walk-in. We also saw other smaller groups that arrived after us get seated before us. I make it a point because these were groups of like 3 or 4 and when we finally did get seated, we were seated in a table for 4. As the food, it is expensive for the portion of food you get. The food was good, but not something I would go out of my way to experience again. The drinks were fine, but nothing too memorable. The mai tai was good, but I think the lilikoi foam made the drink more delicious than a usual mai tai. The smoke screen was average but was lacking the smokiness taste that mezcal usually has. Overall, it's not decent place to try if you're in the Wailea or Kihei area but for the price point, I rather go to Roy's. Just don't expect your reservation to be honored because they'll sit people on a first come, first serve basis.

We started with the spam and unagi musabi, which is cut in half and a bit messy for four to share but perfect for two. It was delicious! We also had the poke nachos which had plenty of fresh ahi piled on. My wife and I split a smash burger deluxe style--one of the best burgers I've had for a while. The boys split fish tacos, which they devoured with enthusiasm. We had two sides of fries for the four of us, which was more than enough. The server was helpful and efficient. Suggested tip is 25%, that's a huge red flag! Lahaina Brewing purchased Kohola brewing about one year ago. How I wish I had visited before that, because looking at historical Yelp reviews, the previous food offerings look SO much more interesting and were made with local and traditional products. Now what you get is $11 spam musubi, a pretzel that has both fish roe and sugary syrup on it (gross!) for $21, pseudo-Niçoise salad for $28 (WTF!), and imported shrimp cocktail for $5 a shrimp. Piss off! Even the server said it was a total rip-off. The menu is massively disappointing for those who actually have a frame of reference. Good thing we only came for beer. Tried the Kohola beer in Makawao and was very impressed. The Tall Story Pale Ale is really excellent, gold standard for pale ale, but you don't have to come here to enjoy it. Happy Hour is 2-5 p.m., $2 off Kohola draft and $4 off a glass of wine. Regular price beer is $8.50, fairly standard price. Unlike others, we had a good service experience. The ambience is comfortable, but I still would not return.

However, the owner took the time to respond and explain that the entire shopping center wing was experiencing cooling issues and that the restaurant was dealing with significant staffing shortages at the time. While that doesn't completely change the experience we had, I appreciate that the owner acknowledged the challenges and responded professionally rather than dismissing the feedback. One observation I would offer is that, as a customer, it was difficult to tell who was serving tables. I noticed several employees in Pint & Cork shirts moving around the restaurant, but only saw a couple of servers actively covering the dining area. It's possible some staff were assigned to bartending or other responsibilities, but from the guest perspective it gave the impression that table service was understaffed while other employees appeared unavailable. I still think there is room for improvement in the flow and logistics on the floor, but I appreciate the owner's willingness to engage with feedback and explain the circumstances. That being said, I would be willing to give the restaurant another chance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATED REVIEW AFTER OWNER'S RESPONSE: 6.21.26 I appreciate the response. It's telling that you addressed the air conditioning, disputed the gender of an employee, and questioned whether I was even there, yet didn't meaningfully respond to the concerns about service, timing, attentiveness, or food quality. If a customer leaves with a poor experience, the question isn't whether they perfectly recalled every detail. The question is why they left with that impression in the first place. I suspect future readers can draw their own conclusions from both the review and the response. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Probably the most disappointing dining experience of our Hawaii trip. We specifically asked to sit indoors because we wanted a break from the Maui heat after spending the day outside. Unfortunately, we quickly realized there was no air conditioning, making the indoor seating barely any cooler than outside. The restaurant also felt severely understaffed. It took around 10 minutes just to get a Diet Coke, and every time I asked for assistance, the woman working at the register seemed to defer the request rather than help or find someone who could. Meanwhile, some employees appeared more interested in chatting than helping customers, while only one or two staff members seemed to be working the floor. I understand restaurants get busy, especially in a tourist area, but the issue wasn't just the wait--it was the feeling that customer service wasn't a priority. As for the food, it was nothing special. I ordered a steak that had a nice smoky flavor, but it arrived well done and overcooked. The rest of the meal was average at best and definitely not memorable enough to make up for the service issues. Between the lack of air conditioning, slow service, inattentive staff, and mediocre food, this was one of the few places in Hawaii where I genuinely regretted spending my money. Considering the location at The Shops at Wailea and the prices being charged, I expected a much higher level of hospitality and execution. There are far too many great dining options in Wailea to come back here.

Unfortunately, this was by far the most disappointing experience we've had. Looking back, we probably should have asked to speak with a manager while we were there, but after everything that happened, we simply felt uncomfortable and wanted to leave. I'll start with the positives because there were several. The drinks were delicious, the sea bass was excellent, and the dessert was absolutely incredible. The pasta itself was a little overcooked and soggy, but the flavor was still very good. The disappointing part of our evening was the service. After our server initially introduced herself, it took quite a while before she returned to take our drink order. When we were ready to order dinner, my husband was still deciding between a couple of menu items. Rather than giving him another moment, our server became visibly impatient and said she would come back after delivering our drinks. It ended up being more than 10 minutes before she returned. When I asked whether the entrees came with bread, her response made me feel embarrassed for even asking. Since they didn't, we ordered the biscuits as an appetizer to enjoy while waiting for our meals. Our children's meals arrived promptly, which we appreciated. However, our server never once stopped by to see if the kids needed anything. I had to flag down another server just to get ketchup. Meanwhile, our server walked past our table several times without checking on us or asking if we'd like another round of drinks--which we actually would have ordered. When our entrees arrived, the biscuits still hadn't come out. Shortly afterward, our server finally checked on us. I let her know that since our meals had already arrived, we no longer needed the biscuits and simply asked that they not be included on the bill. Her response was, "Well, they're made fresh and in the oven now. I guess I can go tell the kitchen you don't want them anymore." I replied, "They were supposed to be our appetizer, and our meals are already here now." Before I could even finish my sentence, she walked away while I was still speaking and appeared to mumble something under her breath. That interaction left my husband and me feeling shocked and disappointed. We've dined at many restaurants over the years and have never felt spoken to in that manner. We had considered asking to speak with a manager at that point, but honestly, we just wanted to finish our meal and leave without any further uncomfortable interactions. This was especially disappointing because Tommy Bahama has always been one of our favorite restaurants and a place we genuinely look forward to visiting whenever we're in Hawaii. We hope this experience was an exception rather than the standard, because the food continues to be wonderful--the service simply did not match the quality we've come to expect.

Service aside, my husband and I decided to try a few different items, including the Szechuan garlic noodles, pickled cucumbers, aji tamago, and Lion's Mane salad. All four dishes had wonderful flavor and were the perfect amount to share and leave full without being overwhelmed. I appreciated the freshness of the ingredients and the variety of spice.
