My group of 9 friends flocked to Mahalo Aleworks after 3 days backpacking on Haleakalā, and were pleased to meet Upcountry Sausage, a cart stationed at the brewery serving up delicious sausage Sammies, burgers, and bar bites. We ordered the smash burger and Italian sausage, both which were chocked full of veggies and sauces, of which accompanied the meat well. The smash burger was a little dry, but of good size and came with a delicious bacon jam. The sausage was topped with a stone ground mustard, which added both flavor and texture to the meal. Our food came out about 10 minutes after ordering, which is average I believe for food carts/trucks when made to order. Considering the brewery was quite busy for a Monday afternoon, we were pleased with the service and the attentiveness of the staff while we were there! The brewery itself, I'll review separately, but the sausage cart seemed to fit perfectly there and provide a casual, laid back feel, classic of Makawao.

Whenever I stop by Kulamalu, Upcountry Sausage is my favorite for a hearty sandwich to order - the Italian Stallion is my go-to and I love how all the smoky flavor and onion tastes pair well together! - Miguel Morales Photography

Seriously, one of if not the best corn Chicken Tacos ever. From the perfectly flavored meat to the toasted corn tortillas with cooked cheese on the edges. just perfect. definitely a do over. as a gluten-free person, these are over the top.

On a recent visit to Maui, we had a fun morning exploring the upcountry farms and gardens and worked up a thirst and appetite. Our first beer stop was Mahalo Aleworks in a newly developed shopping area in Kula and a quick drive from Makawao. Their on-site food was Upcountry Sausage, which was hard to miss since the smoker was fuming. My other half ordered a sausage ($14) served cut in half with mustard, onions, and a side of pickles. She loved the food! I ate part of it and enjoyed the complex hearty flavors - the pickles were a highlight for me. If you're nearby and craving meat, this is a great place to stop whether or not you're stopping at the brewery.

I had the Ragin Cajun- vegan, no cheese and with the Beyond sausage; it was great! The peppers and onions were freshly grilled. My friend had the regular Ragin Cajun and enjoyed it. It was a great lunch on a drizzly day

Upcountry Sausage was the perfect stop for some local beer and a great lunch before heading to the airport. This is the cutest little pop up restaurant / food truck located at Mahalo Aleworks! The service is outstanding - friendly, welcoming and above and beyond to provide a wonderful experience! Order at the food stand and the food will be brought to you wherever you choose to sit within the brewery. The menu is fairly limited but you will surely find something to suit your cravings - Burgers, Italian Sausage/Brats and Tacos! The Sausage come with a wide variety of toppings: Sauerkraut, Provolone, Grilled Peppers & Onions, Pineapple, Teriyaki and several kinds of Mustard {which just happens to be my favorite condiment}. The Hubs opted for the Smashburger - a Beef Burger topped with Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onion, Pickles, American Cheese, Siracha Mayo & a Bacon Jam.. and served with a side of chips. I chose the Chicken Tacos {which I still think about to this day} - a Corn Tortilla filled with Grilled Chicken, Cheese, Black Beans, Corn Slaw, Salsa Verde & Sour Cream {no Sour Cream for me and a Side of Jalapeños} - These were beyond amazing! I'm not even a big Taco gal, but dang.. I would eat these every day if I lived near by. Do yourself a favor and make this a stop when visiting Maui.. or if you live close by.. put this on heavy rotation!

Of my many food vices, sausages are definitely in my top 5! I got to experience USC while having "Pau Hana" drinks with friends at Mahalo Aleworks (brewery & bar). ATMOSPHERE: They're a takeaway food cart located within Mahalo Aleworks' first level outdoor lanai. RESERVATIONS: Not available. PARKING: Plenty of free parking in the lot and on-street. MENU: A sole smash burger, taco and three styles of hot dogs. FOOD: The Italian Stallion - $14.00 The well-seasoned, oversized sausage was split down the middle with a nice char, topped with grilled onions & green peppers, drizzled with a delish stone-ground mustard and dill pickle slices to the side. The bun was soft but with a nice chew to it. I didn't feel like trekking to the bathroom to wash my hands so I ate it with the provided fork & knife. SERVICE: Very friendly. I was given a pager but they ended up delivering it to my table upstairs. Total order time was under 10 minutes. TIP: The smash burger comes with potato chips. OVERALL: Not your ordinary hot dog & bun.

This is a great little food shack next to Mahalo Aleworks. I wanted something to go with the beers that I was tasting at the brewery and this place was perfect. First, the service was so nice. She even brought my dogs to me in the brewery. As for the dog, it was terrific. The Ragin' Cajun was an awesome collection of flavors on a soft bun. Spicy and savory. After my daughter stole a bite. She insisted on getting a second one. Looking forward to coming back for a third.

I really liked my Italian stallion sausage the other day. My friend got the chicken tacos and they looked really good too. We ate it all. I like the location and the atmosphere in this little brewpub. They cook the sausages to order at their little stand outdoors. It's a nice set up where a few businesses get together to share space. The location in Kula Malu town Center is very convenient if you're Upcountry. They have a nice selection of gift items as well.

Food: 5 stars Service: 5 stars Value: 4 stars We were at Mahalo Aleworks and decided to grab a bite - they're attached and will actually drop off your food after you order inside the brewery. Burger was great, and took about 15 minutes to be ready during prime time. Definitely will return!

Great stop next to the brewery when coming back from seeing the sunset at the crater. Highly recommend the locally sourced smash burger.

Get the ragin Cajun, goes down perfectly with a beer from the brewery! Super tasty, and exactly what we needed on our last day in Maui.

The truck itself is fun, painted with bright tropical colors and scenes, and they seem to be known for their loaded tots and bao buns. I placed my order on the touchscreen outside and then sat down to wait for my food. For lunch on this day I went with the buffalo chicken tots and the Island Piggy bao. The menu described the bao as kalua pork, BBQ sauce, tropical salsa, and pickled red onions. The buffalo chicken tots were described as buttermilk fried chicken, buffalo sauce, jack cheddar cheese, house made pickles, and ranch dressing. It took less than 10 minutes for my food to be ready and I sat down at one of the shaded picnic tables. When I opened everything up it all looked good, but I did notice that the tots were missing the house made pickles. I started with the bao and thought it was pretty good. The kalua pork was super juicy and the bao bun was light and fluffy while still holding together well. The pickled onions added a nice acidity and the tropical salsa brought good flavor. The only thing I did not notice much was the BBQ sauce. After that I dug into the tots. The tots themselves were cooked nicely with a crispy outside and soft inside. The chicken was good as well with a nice batter and the buffalo sauce added flavor while the cheese was gooey. The only thing worth noting is that the chicken was softer than expected and not very crispy. It worked since I did have the texture from the crispy tots, but it stood out. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I would probably not order both a bao and tots again as it was a lot of food, but I would definitely come back for one or the other.

We came here twice and I got the 3 bao slider combo each time. - The BAO*CHICKA*BAO*BAO was one of my favorite sandwiches. - My second favorite was the ISLAND PIGGY. I got this both times. - the LITTLE PIGGY was good, but a little overhyped in my opinion. But good to try. - the DUCK DUCK GOAT was wildly disappointing. As you can see in the picture, all meat and almost nothing else. Maybe a few silvers of cabbage. But where's the goat cheese and the fig jam?!? We also got the ALOHA TOTS. Huge portion so that was nice. But the kalua pork was pretty watery and made the crispy tots go soggy pretty fast. Overall a solid spot. Definitely worth trying at least once.

Well no bad guys ever showed up, and the hucksterism was pretty low key. The excitement was not to be had either but it was obvious that these trucks are feeding a lot of people. If they were only able to lower their prices even a little they could be feeding even more but I guess their overhead is probably pretty high even for a parked truck. Anyway I was expecting a bit lower price scale, but it is what it is. So .. For fifteen bucks plus tax and tips I got the seared salmon. The fish was nicely cooked, I enjoyed it. The vegetables were pretty meh but did help bring more of the sauce to the palate. Yes, the sauce was good, right on the verge of too much soy, but they did a good job keeping it balanced. The salmon portion size was small, but not insultingly tiny. Could have been a bit larger for the $15, the value is not there only if you compare to what you make at home, otherwise it's probably disappointedly normal. When you get your six inch diameter bowl you will see what I mean. The heap of rice made for good entertainment feeding the chickens. You're discouraged from feeding them so I just sat the bowl down behind the coffee guys trailer and watched them pig out. It is not exactly "Fast" food here, they are actually cooking the meal while you wait. I had my order in 12 minutes though, exactly how long she said it would take.

Where's the broccoli, the carrots? It's many times hit or miss here when it comes to serving size. There was another time when we ordered extra vegetables and got less than a regular sized serving. I also feel that charging $4.00 for extra vegetables is extreme. I first gave 2 stars but changed to 3 because the food is really good.
