I love umami . They are super prompt, on time and they communicate very well when placing to-go orders and letting you know your order is ready. I use to eat their sushi everyday but not anymore. I took an order to go but would love to come back and eat in, the restaurant atmosphere is nice with a great view of the backlit sushi bar. Took a sashimi bento box - 6 pieces of raw (wish they were bigger) 2 pc gyoza (yummy) 4 pc scrawny Cali and some fruit. Miso soup was in a big container and a basic iceberg w ginger dressing. I asked for extra wasabi and they obliged in my package with another little plop but I always need more ;) Also ordered a tuna poke salad. That was super good. I will gladly provide you pictures of my take-out sashimi order. I order two things from anywhere I order sashimi, among other things... But always Squid and White Tuna (Escolar). White tuna when raw is a beautiful, buttery texture and flavor. What was served in my order... Half cooked... And in plastic cups with some sauce??? I am not kidding... I even took a pic of this and the edge had that distinctive singe... That should NOT be on sashimi. .. Sashimi Escolar is Not cooked... The squid which should have been 6 pieces, was 5 and paper thin. For spouting such high regards and a New York reputation, I never would have expected THIS as my order. For a $40 sashimi order... Never again. Oh, and you really should see the cut and color of the octopus that was served in this order as well. Shame on you. I have been wanting to try the sushi place and finally made it here! First off the place was a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be and looked like they were doing a great business. My friend and I tried the sushi for two. 16 pieces with two additional rolls for $47. I think this is the best way to try their sushi and turned out to be a killer deal. We had reservations and got there a little early and was able to be seated. We enjoyed a bottle of the house sake and it was delicious. This is definitely worth the trip! read more

Late review but we'll deserved. A couple months back my wife, friends and I went for the Omakase. We confirmed a couple weeks in advance as they requested us to do. We sat at the sushi bar and we were blown away with amazing flavors, and textures. Chef really nailed it and the bar manager made exquisite drinks for us all night. There were 7 of us total and I think it's safe to say it was my favorite sushi experience in the Omaha metro in all the years I've lived here. It wasn't my first time in but the first time with the Omakase. I highly recommend the experience. Kudos to the chef and team at Umami. You guys are a gem in Bellevue. read more

The ONLY sushi place to go to in Bellevue! They've got some great creations on their specialty roll list, fish always taste fresh! Their curry and hibachi are also delicious. It's a small location, so they fill up quickly. But it's worth the wait! Only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the bartender. He's a bit snarky and the cocktails could use some work. Well okay! Why a well trained chef such as Chef Keen would decide to open a restaurant in the middle of almost no-where Nebraska is beyond me but I am so happy he did! I was sent the facebook link about this place opening some time ago. I filed it away in the back of my brain to try some sometime. Not Husband is the best not husband ever, I was on my way home on Wednesday and he gave me the choice of left overs or sushi. Umm.. sushi! I pick him and we try to decide where to go. We wanted to somewhere new. Oh YEAH! I remembered this place and off we went. First, don't let the outside of the building throw you. It is unassuming and maybe slight off-putting. We parked and went inside. Clean simple decor. Friendly hostess and bustling staff. We were seated right away and it was busy for a weekday. We order a pot of tea and started to look at the menu. On the inside cover there is a brief history of the chef and his background. It was then I decided we were going to let the chef decide what we would have for dinner. I know from my past a lot of sushi chefs get bored making the same old things over and over again. Chefs are creative by nature, I mean, I don't go to a tattoo artist and pick something out of a book. I provide the elements I want and I let the artist create. I want the art. I felt the same way about this meal. I wanted the chef to enjoy making this one. We share our desire with the waiter, we would like three rolls, chef's choice. The only thing we don't eat is natto. This may have been the first time this wait may have heard this sort of request, he seemed a little taken back but he went to go ask. A short time later a beautiful plate arrived, delivered by the chef himself! He took the time to share what the rolls where, what was in them and how they were made. I was thrilled. To be honest, I don't remember the names of what he brought us I was in awe of the beauty before us. NH and I sample everything and it was as delicious as it was lovely.Not overy rice-y and the flavors were bright and clean. Sometimes the flavors can get muddled in a roll or the sauce is overpowering. Not in this case. I didn't even use soy sauce, there was no need. I can wait to go back! 3 rolls and a share pot of hot tea, total price out the door including tip, $45.00. Umami is great. They have the best sushi I've ever eaten. Seriously. My wife travels to the West Coast regularly and says Umami is the only place in Omaha that compares to the high price sushi she's accustomed to eating. We ordered four house rolls and each one was unique and flavorful while maintaining a simple appearance. I think my favorite was the Manhattan roll which has the perfect punch of wasabi without overpowering the delicate tuna and salmon flavor. The prices were appropriate and the ambiance was casual without feeling cheap. The only thing holding me back from putting out a 5 rating was the hiccup in service. The place gets crazy busy after 6pm and the servers get a little behind. I'll tolerate their speed as long as the chefs deliver the goods consistently. read more

The hype is real! When this place first opened up, I saw the glowing reviews and thought to myself "huh, it must be because Bellevue doesn't really have a sushi place so it has to be awesome to them". Never mind- this place is actually legit. We went early on a Friday night around 6 and the place was packed already. Thankfully, we were able to belly up at the sushi/drink bar. We were actually seated in the in-between seats of the sushi bar and drink bar and it was a great place- our server (the bartender) was amazing. He had lots of personality, was very honest on recommendations, and served up a pretty good dirty martini. The beauty part of where we were sitting was that we could see all of the great sushi plates being made as well as the great pride the guys making them had. It has been a long time since I've been in a place where the sushi chefs seemed actually proud of the product that they were using. I ordered the bluefin tuna entree special, and at one point one of the chefs put up the slab of tuna they were using on the top of the bar to show it off. They also showed off the freshly braised tako that they were serving that night. When I brought up the idea of omakase to the sushi chefs, I was told that yes, they do it. As a matter of fact, later one of the chefs showed me a wasabi root and asked if I knew what it was. Of course it did! The next time I'm going is for omakase, but probably on a weekday when they are hopefully not as busy. The food: My fiancee is a pretty tame eater. She got egg drop soup to begin- it tasted like egg drop soup. She got a Philadelphia roll- it tasted like a Philadelphia roll. She also got the beef with broccoli- that was pretty tasty. I started off with the salmon collar appetizer- good lord this was one of the best things I've ever had. Being the collar, you're not going to get a whole lot of food but what you get is amazing. If they are offering this when you go there, get it- it was only 5 bucks after all. Finding Uni in Omaha is really hard- they offer it here and I got it- I love that shit. I ordered it and while one was the ocean-y wonderfulness that I like, the other one had a bit of a funk to it. The bluefin tuna entree I got was very good. They give you 2 of fatty tuna, medium tuna, regular tuna, and mix tuna sushi along with a spicy tuna roll. You need to at least once try fatty bluefin tuna. Overall, this place rocks! I am huge on service (which we got great service) but of course the actual food (really great) and the experience was great as well. read more

We came here on a Friday at a very busy time . We waited about 15 minutes for a table . We waited for our food for a long time. I mean a loooong time . Other people who were seated after us, received food before us . Besides that problem the food was amazing ! I had the rainbow roll and the yaki udon noodles ! Amazing !!!! Somebody else in our party ordered the fried rice and it tasted like no other fried rice I had before. Next time I am in town I will probably place an order to go to avoid the wait. read more

They offered an awesome lunch menu with a pick any 2-3 rolls for a decent deal that comes with soup. There was nothing too spectacular on the menu. It was all your standard run-of-the-mill rolls. Nothing was like "WOW! I have to try that!" I got a California roll and an avocado roll. The miso soup it came with was okay. Went here with my partner on February 13 for a Valentine's dinner. It was recommended to us by a friend. It was just flat out great. Delicious and creative sushi rolls. Other options if you don't want sushi. Clean and modern environment. The staff was friendly and attentive. I think we order 5 rolls and ended up paying about $50. All in all that's a great deal. We order standard and specialty rolls. It was worth the price. Some places overprice for shit sushi, but not here! It was worth every penny. HUGE PORTIONS. I can't wait to go back and try more. We ordered the Spicy Mango roll, Crunchy roll, Las Vegas roll, Cali roll, and Rock and Roll. Asides from the Cali roll, the sushi was delicious. We went to meet friends there on a hot summer evening and it was packed. So maybe that explains the sauna like temperature inside the restaurant, it felt like the air conditioning was broken. This made for a pretty painful background experience which was only enhanced by the lackluster food. Bellevue has been a fast food desert, so people will flock to any restaurant not owned by a corporate chain. But you might want to just keep driving past Umami because it's not worth paying money for meh food. The noodles were tasteless mush, even after dousing them in hot sauce. The chicken wouldn't make it past an FDA investigation, it was all gristle. The hibachi was oily and nondescript.....there's nothing more to say. read more

The place is neat , looks fancy lots of table 3 Pm is not a busy time here. Their employees are hanging out in their waiting area. I love their bar counter looks awesome as well as the wine display. Love their food we had the Sushi and sashimi for two with salad and miso soup. I super like their salad and the miso soup too which made me full already. The food worth $50 and there's so much to it lots of choices and variation, I forgot what are those though. Among those choices I like the sashimi and the sushi that was fried more than the rest. I don't like the smelt fish they had as it's taste weird and I can taste the fish stinks. The ordering takes long as the waitress they have did not follow up to us after giving us the menu. The serving time was not bad . However we were stuck there waiting for the bill as there's no servers in sight to ask for it as in it's quiet and we just have to wait. The inside is so well decorated it doesn't even look like the typical Bellevue area restaurant. Also, the food is great! Amazing, FRESH sushi. I loved their variety of specialty rolls and loved everything we tried. Salmon Lover, Las Vegas, Jalapeno, and Non-Stop Hot Tuna rolls were ALL winners. I was very impressed with the price, considering sushi is usually a little spendy, and they did a great job accommodating our large group of 16. In addition to sushi, we tried their lo mein noodles and thought they were delicious, so we are definitely looking forward to trying out their hibachi options in the future.
