One word : RED CURRY! Soooo good!! I would leave my wife and my girlfriend for this!

My wife and I recently enjoyed dining at Umami in Lenox Village. The owners Steve and Michelle have created a a fun environment to eat a wide variety of fresh and tasty Asian dishes. The decor Is very modern - this restaurant is extremely clean. There are so many interesting choices on the menu that as first timers we found it difficult To decide what to order. Everything in my chicken bento box was fresh and delicious. The portions were very generous. We ordered conservatively because we don't enjoy very spicy dishes but it appeared that other diners were partaking and enjoying everything they ordered. Steve insisted we try the Korean fried chicken so he prepared a mild order for us. I don't love chicken wings but these were exceptional. I also took some home and had them for lunch the following day. This is still a relatively new restaurant so there remain a few kinks to iron out. This is not a fast food place so expect that it will take the appropriate amount of time to prepare all of the great dishes they offer. We are looking forward to returning to Umami and further exploring that interesting menu. read more

This was just an awful experience. Food was good not great but for the price it was good. My wife and I ordered fried chicken and kimchi fries to start around 4:15. Our server came back a few minutes later and we ordered two sushi rolls. About 10 minutes later our sushi rolls came out but still no starter. We went ahead and ate our sushi not really worried about what came out first. After we finished our sushi we continued waiting for our starters. Our kimchi fries arrived about 10 minutes after we finished the sushi. We ate those and continued waiting for the fried chicken. Finally at about 5 our server let us know the chicken was almost ready. At 5:10 i had to ask the server to make it to go. At 5:15 he brought us the food and gave us a light apology for the wait. It took an hour for our starter with no explanation. There were 7 people in the restaurant when we arrived and only 4 people came in while we were there. I was so disappointed. Other reviews suggest this is a good place. Maybe I just caught them on a bad day. However based on my experience i would not recommend Umami and i will not be back. read more

To start, the food at Umami is really good. I've had their Pad Thai (great flavor with a few levels of heat to choose from) and Korean tacos (super good). Their raspberry lemon cheesecake is also amazing. My only complaint about Umami is the service. The staff has always been friendly, but consistently slow. We called ahead for a to go order once, showed up 15 minutes later - which was a 5 minutes before they said it would be ready - and ended up waiting at the bar for another 25 minutes for our order. There also hasn't been a hostess up front when we've been there so we usually have to awkwardly wave someone down to get a table. So, bottom line, service isn't great, but the food is good enough to make up for it on the occasional visit. read more

I got the food to go so perhaps that's why my experience was not as positive as others. I ordered tofu bibimbap with NO egg and extra chili paste. Well, the vegetables were anemic and wilted and sparse, the tofu was mushy with absolutely no seasoning, there was no extra chili paste, and there was half (so weird) a fried egg thrown on top. Also, it was supposed to come with miso soup and sides, of which I got none. I am so disappointed because I love Korean food and I was looking forward to having a Korean restaurant nearby. Gross. I ordered to go and tried the Korean fried chicken wings which everyone on yelp raved about. I also ordered shrimp fried rice. However when I got home I realized they gave me chicken fried rice instead. It was nasty and lacked flavor. The Korean fried chicken wings were greasy and had a weird smell to them so I was turned off before I even tried them. My order costed $25 for nasty wings and rice that I didn't order. Highly disappointed and will not return. Ever. read more

This is the best Asian food I have had in Nashville!!! Previous restaurant was nowhere close. Umami's food is super fresh and amazing! Had the fresh rolls (huge and fresh), bibimbap (super fresh), and Nemo roll (yummy). Also good beer, wine and liquor selection. We sat at the bar and the service was top notch!!!! I cannot speak highly enough about this place. I live upstairs in Lenox Village town center and ventured down here on a whim, and can honestly say I'll be back here often, and with others in tow. This place has incredible food, and servers and management that care about their clientele more than anywhere I've ever experienced. I'll recommend this place to anyone. read more

Multiple times have called to place a to go order and the bartender takes the call, then sets phone down and FORGETS! Will wait on the phone 15+ minutes with no response. Even worse since the phone is off the hook and you can't even call back. HORRIBLE read more

This sushi place is the best! They have great drink specials and the food is amazing! We love the sushi here and the udon soup is great. My mother is a vegetarian and she loves the options they have. And The staff is very welcoming and quick! We live around the corner and we were so happy to see them reopen after their renovation. The patio is very modern and adorable! Umami is an amazing dining experience. Locally owned, it's one of our favorite new places in Nashville. The owner, Michelle, is always pleasant and welcomes us by name every visit. We've had just about everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. Some of our favorites are: white tuna sashimi, spicy Korean Chicken, all Ramen dishes, Korean Tacos, Kimchi Fries, and the sushi rolls are in line with the best in the city. They have a full bar with the best Sangria in town. The ambiance is fun with large videos of K-Pop playing but not too loud that it's distracting. Perfect for a date or a family dinner, make sure to visit Umami soon and support local owners doing it right. read more

We discovered Umami through our son and his girlfriend and is now our favorite stop when we visit them. The Korean Fried Chicken wings are a perennial favorite. We love Poki (my wife grew up with it in Hawaiii) and theirs is top drawer. We also love the Beef Bulgogi and the Seafood Ramen. The servings are generous and the staff is superb. Ventured out to this part of Nashville from Franklin and decided to pick up sushi on the way to my family's house. We usually go to zushimaki in Franklin and Peters in Brentwood and always have an excellent experience. I was asked to come pick up my order in 40 minutes and it actually took an hour and a half for me to receive my order. When I entered the restaurant I had to flag down the owner who was not making much eye contact with me as if she did not want to deal with another upset customer. The bartender also was not warm and welcoming when I asked about my pickup order. I usually would expect a big smile especially if the staff sees a new face. After waiting for such a long time to finally eat, the food was totally not up to par. The fish was fishy on the rainbow roll. Tempura was average. All of the specialty rolls we received were mostly rice and soggy sweet sauces. Gross. The seafood Ramen lacked salt and all the seafood was overcooked and chewy. The only roll I actually enjoyed was the spider roll. All in all, out of four of us eating we all agreed it was one of the worst meals we have ever had! I guess that's what you get when you venture away from your home sushi restaurant! read more

We tried umami for the first time tonight. It was incredible! The flavor and service were impeccable. The owner made it a point to walk around and speak to every table, taking her time. Order the Bento Box with Salmon, menu states tempura shrimp included. My box arrived without shrimp, instead had a fried sweet potato , which at first glance I thought was shrimp. I informed waitress, she conferred with whoever in kitchen and accuse me of lying , stating cook included 2 tempura shrimp, I emphatically disagree. They finally bought out one tempura shrimp. I was skeptical whether a restaurant that offered Japanese, Korean and Thai could be anything but a jack of all trades and master of none, however Umami seems to have pulled it off. The various cuisines are somehow well executed and a testament of that would be that every time I've visited I've tried something new and never been disappointed. Sadly, I have to update this review. While the food is still worthy of 5 stars, the consistent bad service just will not allow a good rating. It seems as if the owner is not willing to pony up and pay for good servers. Heck, for that matter any servers. Most nights there is only 1 server for the entire restaurant. And for whatever reason, they just can't seem to understand how to time orders to come out as they are ordered. For example. Order some edamame and a sushi roll for appetizers, fried rice and bulgogi for entrees for 2 people. There has been several times where the apps actually came out AFTER the entrees and I've never had them bring out the entree's at the same time. It's just not that hard to time your service. We had stopped eating here because of the service and have recently tried again. No change. And for goodness sake, stop with the crappy music videos on all the time. read more

I tried Umami a couple days ago and it was a pretty solid place. Their menu is pretty extensive. Their wings were delicious! They have gone through 150 different recipes and it has paid off. I will be going back again and again to experience more of what they have to offer. read more

I've been to Umami twice so far and I can't wait until my next visit. I am so happy this place moved into Lennox Village! The food.... man, the food! The Bibimbap is amazing. The Pad Kee Mao is amazing. The sashimi I've seen go to tables next to me looks amazing. They also have a great bar selection. The décor is clean, cute, and modern. I especially love the giant screen playing the Asian music videos. Michelle, the owner, took care of me for lunch today and she was quite delightful. Very attentive and friendly. All in all, I think this restaurant is a great addition to my usual eateries in the neighborhood and I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for some fresh sushi or authentic Asian flavors! read more

This place is amazing!! From the quality of the food; the service; the caring owners (Steve and Michelle, that make you feel like family) the bartender, Tracy (that has mastered a craft beer list with $10 domestic buckets and $15 craft buckets...& it's 5 beers that you can totally build your own bucket. Most places limit you to 2 different beers per bucket..not here.. If you want 5 different beers, that's what you get).. AWESOME CONCEPT TO TEST YOUR PALATE.. or if you have a group of indecisive friends. I've tried just about everything on the menu and haven't been disappointed yet. I tend to lean toward extra spicy food and though Umami has a very nice flavor to all of their food they also have an AMAZING sauce bar to add a little extra heat or flavor if you so desire.
