The restaurant is decorated nicely with a nice atmosphere. The service was impeccable as we were being check on quite frequently. There's good enough seating and wasn't busy at all Around 1pm on Saturday. Ordered the Spicy Garlic Edamame (5/5 for the sauce or whatever the heck they put in it, just a small hint of spice), Yellow Tail/Salmon/Whole Scallops & OTORO, Waygu Nigiri. All tasted very fresh and great quality fish. But, my favorite of course was the Otoro (melt in your freaken mouth), Whole Scallops (sweet and juicy) & the Waygu (also melt in your mouth and had a delicious Yuzu/Citrus After taste). Also got the well known Crispy Rice w/ chopped tuna (crunchy goodness). Something diff that stood out to me was the OMG roll and it was surprisingly really good. Had so much good stuff in it (mushroom/rice cake/scallops/California roll/tobiko eggs/etc), it is considered a hot dish/roll, but really good and worth it. I rated a 4/5 stars only cause they forgot to bring out the miso soup, so we just cancelled it. But overall food wise, was very good! Would come back. Just slightly on the pricer side. Oh my gosh so good. They have so many special rolls. I had the pink lady and another but it was delicious. Fish was fresh! Miso soup was fine. Next time I want to try their crispy rice appetizer. The molten lava cake dessert is made in house and I totally recommend. They also have fresh wasabi! I can't find this stuff anywhere. Staff was top notch. We've been going here since they opened and have loved it ever since. Even our 2 year old toddler would crave their shrimp tempura or their udon bowl at least once a week! Came here to treat my girlfriend out for her birthday. She heard about this place from a coworker and I'm glad I was able to snag reservations in considering it was a Friday evening and it's a relatively small place. We were greeted by a friendly host and she immediately sat us in a booth by the window. Upon arrival, I noticed it was a small restaurant, but I enjoyed the aesthetic and ambiance. Our waiters were incredible and made amazing recommendations when we asked about what to order. My girl friend was hungry and ordered a lot for us! But it was her birthday, she gets whatever she wants. She ended up ordering 3 rolls: the Catalina roll, the OMG roll, and the Pink Lady roll. Appetizers were the pork gyoza and calamari. She also ordered pork belly robata. For sashimi, I ordered King salmon, Hamachi, Otoro, and salmon belly. For the salmon belly, you have to ask your waiter or waitress if it's available since it depends on the cut of salmon that they have. Luckily they did have it and I enjoyed it very much. For the nigiri, I ordered two pieces of the wagyu with truffle oil. And ordered sakemaki as well. Everything was incredibly delicious. But my favorite dish was the otoro and King salmon. Both were served with caviar and the otoro had some edible gold as well. It was so buttery and nearly falling apart attempting to pick it up with my chopsticks. Best otoro EVER! We ended the night with the matcha panna cotta and chocolate lava cake for dessert. Because it was her birthday, why wouldn't we end with cake? She enjoyed the meal overall, as well as I. I was visiting from California, and was trying to help my local Sugarland friends find a decent go-to sushi spot. They've lived in Texas for 2 years now, have tried a plethora of sushi restaurants, and they never went back to any of them. I guess you can tell from the 5 stars, that this restaurant did not leave them disappointed. Very excellent attention-to-detail service (they give you refills of tea/soda/water when they see you're running low, no need to flag them down to ask), very open and receptive to feedback, and honest too (they brought out the wrong kind of ice tea for me, I wouldn't have known the difference, they informed me and brought me out the correct one). Their food. THEIR FOOD. Okay, according to the other reviews, a few of their dishes are definitely overly salty, like the overuse of sauce in their OMG roll and steak bento. I can also tell from their robata photos, that they use wayyyy too much sauce on those too. However, I have complete confidence that they will tweak and perfect their recipes soon. They've just opened this year, and their great service makes me confident in their future improvement. Their food is good, maybe request them to not drench the dishes in sauce? I like that their menu leans more towards less-Americanized flavors, but still have offerings that will satisfy every preference. My friends were mostly unimpressed with most sushi restaurants because they were all basically white-washed. For example, many will just use an imitation crab stick and throw that into a roll, call it a day. Umami actually makes a proper crab mix! I loved their version of a rainbow roll, and their Beverly Hills roll. Overall, great quality of ingredients, original dishes that don't overly stray from the essence of Japanese flavors, and excellent service. We got the Lavender tea, gyoza, Japanese Lasagna and Philadelphia rolls, and Green Tea Mochi as dessert. I love that the teas have healing/other beneficial properties! Really great. Lavender had a really strong aroma that I enjoyed, and it was just a nice tea otherwise. 4/5 Gyoza was amazing! Loved it, very savory and pairs well with soy sauce. 5/5 Japanese Lasagna was by far my favorite, really amazing mayo and roe coating, made me want to lick the plate clean. It was seriously good I recommend this 100/10. Philadelphia was your classic Philadelphia roll, nothing special here but it's a good classic that I usually get. 4/5 Mochi was my least favorite but still enjoyable. Decided to try out a new sushi spot in Sugar Land with two of my girl friends. We came on a weekday evening, so it wasn't as busy as other reviews mentioned. They have a great tea selection, and it's currently still BYOB. Quality of the fish is great, but that also means the meal was a bit pricey. I was a bit surprised at how small the slivers of my Spanish maguro sashimi were, but it was still good. The Madai Carpaccio was delicious. I definitely recommend. The Love Affair roll was good, but not memorable. I wish the Spicy Tuna roll was actually spicy. I finished my meal with the matcha panna cotta, and it was AMAZING. A perfectly balanced dessert.
