Four of us enjoyed dinner this evening. Stellar service was provided by Melissa.ahe was courteous, friendly, and very engaging. The only thing preventing a five star review was the Marina sauce which had a bit too much basil for us. We all agree that we would return another time. Thanks for a nice dinner.

Wow! Where to start? My first visit, but surely not my last! The food was amazing and Dominique was great! We were served a warm bean salad (I can't remember the official name), a cucumber, tomato, onion salad and a beautiful loaf of fresh bread. We were full before our entrees came. We had the Zuppa deMar and Chicken Picatta. The picatta didn't have pasta so they brought a side of angel hair with marinara. Everything was delish!!! I highly recommend Umberto's!!

Part 2 of 2 for letter U in alphabet series, U is for Umberto's. My girlfriend & I were down in Myrtle Beach with a group around Labor Day weekend. A friend gave us 2 concert tickets for Van Halen cover band at House of Blues here at Barefoot Landing on Sunday, September 1, 2024; perhaps he got free tickets for booking the timeshare stay. In general, we noticed a high amount of Italian restaurants in Myrtle Beach area, which had good reviews. Someone had recommended Umberto's, and we felt we wanted Italian at some time on this trip as that seemed to be popular here. Unfortunately, with the group we had Italian just 2 days later, which was an even stronger 5-stars than Umberto's. But Umberto's was still pretty awesome and a bit of a unique experience. Umberto's started in Pittsburgh in 1988 and opening up in Myrtle Beach. Instead of just the pasta & bread, which is standard for Italian food, you get a Beans & Greens. The beans were a solid I'm guessing a Cannelli bean like a kidney beans, but I'm not an expert. The salad wasn't a traditional salad either. Normally, a salad is always lettuce and generally tomato, carrots, dressing, and/or various other combinations. This salad was no lettuce! It was cucumber, tomatoes, & onions plus dressing. I ate around onions as I don't like. This was a very good take on salad. Bread was delicious too. Although the uniqueness of the appetizers was great, the real highlight was the main event of my entree Chicken Parmigiana. This was outstanding, amongst the best I've had. Server was friendly answering all our questions. Ambiance is comfortable with plenty of room inside with windows facing boardwalk along Barefoot Landing. Overall, a great memorable experience here.

We were a group of seven women staying in NMB and were told by numerous friends not to miss Umberto's. Of the seven, five of us are Boston Italian-Americans, so show us what you got, Pittsburgh! The dining room was packed with mostly large groups of golfers and the like. Our server, Ivan, was spectacular! He left no detail undone and was great about explaining the Umberto way. His most commonly uttered phrase was , "I got you!" For example, we had no idea there'd be a pasta e fagioli & bread course, followed by salad, followed by pasta marinara prior to our selected entrees. The beans were possibly my favorite part of the meal--garlicky and delicious. The tomato-cucumber-red onion salad was another favorite, and the dressing was to-die-for, sopped up with the fresh, warm bread. Not a fan of chunky tomato sauce on angel hair , but the flavor was good. I prefer a more homogeneous red sauce that sticks to pasta. Entrees included various eggplant & veal, grouper, and veal Umberto. I loved the eggplant preparation (breaded and thin) but others preferred their homemade versions with more layered cheese. Typical Italians! We had no room for dessert. Several of us were disappointed to hear they'd run out of cappuccino. Not sure how that happens in an Italian restaurant. Also, Boston wants to see spumoni on the dessert menu! A great dining experience was enjoyed overall. If you find yourself near Barefoot Landing, pay them a visit. Ciao!

This was probably my fifth or sixth time visiting Umberto's in Myrtle Beach, and it never disappoints. The food is consistently outstanding--my lasagna was as awesome as ever, and the veal was top-notch. We happened to visit while a massive group of tournament players and coaches was dining, and the energy in the room was electric. It was wonderful to see so many kids having a blast and enjoying themselves after their tournament. While it made for a high-energy environment, it only added to the festive feel of the place. The highlight of the night, however, was watching my mother-in-law. She sat there with a facial expression like a bulldog chewing on a wasp, constantly shaking her head and clearly miserable that anyone was having a good time in her presence. Honestly, the meal tasted ten times better just watching her try to ruin the mood--it made every bite that much sweeter. If you're looking for fantastic Italian food and a lively, fun-filled setting, I can't recommend Umberto's enough. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

I've been wanting to come here for years but I was sadly disappointed. Our server was cold and was rushing us. The food was ok at best. I did enjoy the bread and beans but the meals just lacked flavor and the sauce was not my favorite at all. I was also thrown by the plastic chairs with the menu prices.

My husband and I went here for dinner on a recommendation from someone I met by the pool at our hotel. My husband had a Center cut pork chop. Well let me tell you when that thing came out...All I could say is wow huge portion two big thick cut pork chops. He said they were delicious. Interesting enough. The warm-up that comes with the meal was very different and very tasty. It was a bean dish that comes out family style and also bread. It was a bean dish that comes out family style and also bread and tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions with an Italian dressing. Angel hair pasta with a tomato based marinara was very tasty also included. I had eggplant parmigiana 4 thin cutlets with sauce and provolone cheese very good. To top it off I wanted cannoli because I love cannoli and it's rare place that I go that I can get it. Add a glass of wine and the entire meal for two people was $83. I paid more for our lunch the other day that was half as good. I would definitely return. The service was wonderful very attentive our waiter (I believe his name is Ivan) was great. We are now sitting in Barefoot landing on Adirondack chairs stuffed. And had to go plates for another meal tomorrow .

Top notch Italian! The delicious starters and soft, heavenly bread set the tone for a great meal. The drinks were strong and good (finally, feels like it's a rarity around here). During my first visit, the T-bone was delicious but a bit difficult to work with. Update: Returned two years later, and it's still as good as ever. This place is a family favorite, so whenever we're in town, we hit up Umberto's. The Artichoke Francaise was a hit at the table, and the lobster ravioli was excellent. The Zuppa de Mare wasn't for me, but everyone else enjoys it immensely. Steak, pasta, seafood: it's all done well but not "well-done." Just remember not to make a scene fighting over the last slice of bread.

Based on my brother-in-law's recommendation, we decided to try this place instead, and I'm glad we did. From the start, the experience stood out. The food quality was excellent, and the portions were surprisingly generous--something you don't often find at Italian restaurants. They also offer complimentary bread with a choice of soup or salad, which is becoming increasingly rare. Even more impressive, these weren't afterthoughts. The bread was perfectly crusty and served with a flavorful olive oil infused with tomato and garlic. Both the salad and chicken soup were fresh and well-prepared. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals. I had the chicken Sorrento with prosciutto and mushrooms over pasta, and it was outstanding--well-balanced, flavorful, and cooked just right. The restaurant itself is clean and nicely designed, creating a comfortable atmosphere without feeling overly formal. Service was quick, and our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout. I don't often give five-star reviews, but this place truly earned it. It delivers on both quality and value, which is a combination that's hard to find.

Numerous tables and booths available for seating, as well as the bar. And outside dining is also an option. Prices & portions seem reasonable. This place appears to get quite busy and also looks to have many regulars. Family-owned- European and Northern Italian influence. We came on a Saturday night, shorty before close, so we were able to get two seats at the bar. Our bartender was extremely attentive throughout our visit. Complementary bread is provided. Comes with a nice oil and garlic blend. Ordered the Bucatini Puttanesca & Spaghetti with Italian Sausage. These come with a dinner salad or up grade to a Caesar for $2 more (which I did). Both salads were fresh and delicious. I will say one of the best caesar dressings I've had. The pasta, presentation was lovely. The flavors bland, tomato sauce (tastes straight from the can) had no additional spices present and the pasta way over cooked. Seems their noodles are pre-cooked and Al Dente then is just not possible. This is another reason why the rating was just below average. Really disappointing. Would not be a place we would revisit.

This restaurant was a surprise from our oh so friendly, engaging, interesting and very accomplished Accordion Virtuoso, Mike. To our very enthusiastic, lovely, patient, Server Berkley. To our food which was divine. To the "Old World" Italian environment, kinda like Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, without the human statues that move ever so slightly, but just enough to to make you feel, something is a miss, but what??? Man, that drove me crazy. Also, you want to go here to dine because their competing Restaurants in the area feel having you wait in very long, well over an hour and a half lines, just to get in satisfies their need not to take any reservations. Hun...? Yep, they're fine having Aunt Susie's makeup looking like Mark Shostrom, the Master Makeup Artist from the horror series "A Nightmare on Elm Street" movies, put it on for her. We all know also, because while we tried our best not looking at how Aunt Susie's makeup was contorting her face, it was like trying not to look at a car wreck. I even laid 7-5 odds that her false eyelashes would become a moustache, and won, while we all did exactly that to satisfy my beautatious date's Cousins' from Reno, fish wish, in Myrtle Beach. We stood in the lines outside, in the evening heat, at three different restaurants that we tried. Please remember to bring water, you'll feel better while you wait, wait, wait again, and then really wait, as if Mosses is going to appear from on high with the Ten Commandments. Instead it's, "Your table is ready" as you try to wake Grandma from her heat induced coma. While Villa Romano's bait, is to actually take your reservation and instead, have you relax on your tushy while having a cocktail in their comfortably A/C filled delightful ambience while you relive your day's perspective with friends and Family ("No, you missed it. First he...", ya know), while Mike fills the air with his sweet mellifluous musical notes floating by you for your audio pleasure, much like the feather in Forrest Gump. Their appetisers looked awesome however, this is an "Old World" Italian restaurant that offered their minestrone soup, and their Caesar salad which came with our meals, was very tasty, and paired very well with the bottle of wine from their varied, and well selected wine list, which we all shared. First, I read some of Villa Romania's great reviews on Yelp, before making a reservation, most especially, because I did not want anyone to have to repeat "THE LONG Lines" at our Fried Fish Palace, lol experience from two nights earlier. All of our entrees pictured below, were savoy, aroma enticing, tastebud thrilling, flavor forward, and exceeded all our sensory expectations which helped us all unwind while really enjoying our evening out together as it unexpectedly, evolved into an event for us all. While all their deserts sounded wonderful we were all completely full. But on our next visit, tiramisu, ice cream, and cannolis for all. So it's expensive, right? That is a great question Poindexter, but wrongo, my parsimonious friend. It was again, surprisingly affordable, and "I shall return" as General Douglas MacArthur once said. Why? Because sometimes you just can't find what will work for everyone, and that feels and tastes, just right. That's it! That is Villa Romana Restaurant, and we all were so gleeful and happy we discovered that fact in our visit to Myrtle Beach, SC. Manga... Enjoy!
