SUCH good pasta, the penne is phenomenal. Tons of veggie options, waiters are so nice. The complimentary bread is also so good. Super clean inside and so much seating and fast service.

This is the small amount of basil that causes all the problem.

Let me make something very clear: the pizza is amazing. There is no other pizzeria on Long Island. That has the sauce and overall flavor of this pizza. Here is the problem: when you order multiple slices instead of a pie, you liable to get a small piece any large piece or a medium piece. The slices are never the same. Second, even if you order in the middle of the day, you can get an old piece of pizza. That is un unacceptable at their prices. Do better!

I go there with my friends at least once a month. The food is always fresh & tasty. Good place to take out or dine in.

So before I write this review, I have to preface this with saying that I am a pizza girlie, and I've certainly tried many different pizzerias on Long Island... but this is NEXT LEVEL! After just discovering this Wantagh gem, better late than never I suppose, LOL, I cannot stop raving about Umberto's take on the New York slice -- their high quality ingredients and their authentic touch is surely worth the hype especially when it comes to their incredible crust, fresh tomato sauce, and olive oil. (My mom literally said their pizza reminded her of a slice she had in Italy, and my boyfriend was very much impressed as well!) I recommend the slightly deeper dish slice called the Pazzo -- fresh sausage and peppers and olives and an unreal crust that will have you shouting from the pizza rooftops. I also love their take on the tri-colored Grandma's with three sauces --- marinara, vodka, and pesto. Finally, I have to preach their Chicken Bacon Ranch slice for being SO comforting and balanced. (Again, I cannot get over how good and crunchy their crust is!) Run, don't walk, to this Wantagh staple --- I TOTALLY understand why it has been voted best on Long Island.

4 1/2 stars for Umberto's in Wantagh. ( see Pix) Delicious chicken and noodles , leftovers spilled out and oil . This said, food and service was consistently great. Chicken park and Angel hair spaghetti well cooked , presented and plentiful. Note: rewards card give your-# at time of bill. Note: takeout - the young blond girl is a fine worker and is a keeper. Food equity fresh at counter.

Ordered from Umberto's Wantagh tonight. Sicilian pie burnt, inedible! Trashed. Not cheap either!

This place may look like a run of the mill pizzeria but don't be fooled. The food is excellent.

There are great appetizers from here, and great shrimp meals and a chicken cutlet hero too! The food here normally is great. :)

Ask the Community - Umberto's Restaurant & Pizza

Umberto's of Wantagh was well known for their thick cupped delicious pepperoni pizza. I recently had their pepperoni pizza and the cups were thin. Have they changed the pepperoni they use?

HI Rocco. We are still using the exact same pepperoni. Thank you.

Every time I visit I always grab a few pizzas to bring home and I always make sure to ask to upgrade to DOP ingredients. This place is as authentic as it gets. From the oven, which was imported from Naples, to the owner being a certified pizzaiolo, and the amount of DOP ingredients in use and available, there's a level of care and respect for Neapolitan pizza that you can taste in the each pizza. The ingredients are excellent, the crust is consistently great, the dough has the perfect chew , and nothing feels like an afterthought. Over the years they've grown in popularity and have added several new items on the menu, to include pizzas, but the ones that stay constant in my rotation are Moms, The Margareta (DOP), and the meatball with ricotta. For me, they make the best neopolitan pizza on Long Island. I also love that it's connected to the pork store next door. There's something about the whole setup that feels like a throwback to my childhood and the kind of Italian American places I grew up around that seem like there's so few of today. Going to Saverio's is more than just grabbing a pizza. There's whole experience has a warmth and authenticity to it that's increasingly hard to find...and while you're waiting for your pizza, going next door and buying some food, whether it's cold cuts, cheeses, or pasta is very much a part of the experience. Saverios is genuinely one of a few places I always look forward to visiting when I'm on the Island. You should check it out if you haven't already.

I definitely think these pies are best eaten fresh out of the oven when you can really get that nice crunch, but even after bringing them home, they still tasted pretty damn good. What made it fun was ordering a variety so the whole family could try a little bit of everything. Everyone ended up having their own favorite, which always makes for a good debate at the table. Mine was definitely the fig--the combination of flavors just worked for me. Good pizza, great service and a fun way to do pizza night with the family. Next time, I'm grabbing a slice straight out of the oven!

This whole public transportation venture is terribly inconvenient and annoying me, it really is…read more So I got on the Long Island Railroad at Jamaica station to meet a friend. I see my friends mostly at wakes now and my ride fell down on me, so here in Jamaica i stand. For all who've not been, it is about the dirtiest, most germy place per square foot in NYCs transportation world. Its the kind of place I hope you'll never ever see in your life. Everybody's bumping into you and yelling about track changes, looking like a bunch of morons who think they're going somewhere important. Anyway, I ended up getting off at Massepequa and going to Leonardo's Pizza hoping they had a beer but they didn't, figures. First, I had the Italian Wedding Soup. It arrived looking like a drowned swamp with all those stringy, pale noodles swirling around in the broth like a bunch of white wigglers, similarto what i had for first lunchies. They were just sitting there next to these limp green leaves and the carrots were just floating in it. It's like the soup is trying to convince you it's healthy, but the whole thing just looks depressing. You take a bite, and it tastes, well, it tastes rather good, but the name is what really gets me. "Italian Wedding Soup." That's a odd name if I ever heard one. What does soup have to do with getting married? It just makes you think of a bunch of grandmothers crying and guys in rented tuxedos talking about their golf handicaps and portfolios. Plus I'm never getting married again, never ever - i learned my lesson. Then came the Detroit Slice. It sat there on a paper plate next to my copy of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, which was the only thing in my whole damn life that's keeping me company. Look at the edge of that crust--it's burnt to a crisp. Black as night, dark as spadesbut maybetgats how they do it on Long Island. The sauce is piled right down the middle like a thick red streak, covered in all these little dried oregano herbs I applied. I sat there eating this cheesy crusted square, staring at Mark Twain on the cover, and I swear it made me feel sad. Not because the book is terrible, it reminded me of my childhood, another complete disaster. The pizza actually had that crispy, cheesy edge going for it, I'll give them that, but because it felt lonely eating alone in public,vi never do that. Me, Samuel Clements and a thick slice of pizza on a cheap paper plate. Next time I'll be sure to eat out with someone fun.
