I am a first time customer -- I recently ordered 2 pies and 12 garlic knots to be delivered to a local shelter for the volunteers there. The shelter is literally about a 4 minute drive away, right down the block. We tipped $4.00, which I thought was reasonable for such a short delivery, although maybe I should have tipped more. I'm not sure. Unfortunately, the delivery driver was clearly unhappy with the tip and asked for more money. I was honestly flabbergasted. He told me to go inside and ask them if they're willing to give him more. He kept asking for more, became angry and rude, and the interaction lasted a solid 2-3 minutes before I finally walked away and called the store to report it. Mind you, it takes A LOT for me to want to complain... The first manager I spoke to was a woman who basically just said sorry, and that was it. However, I later spoke with Rich, who I believe is either a manager or the owner, and he completely changed how I felt about the situation. Rich took the time out of his day to go over everything with me in detail, listened to what happened, made sure the situation was made right with us, and handled things with his driver. He could have easily been rude, dismissive, or just brushed me off, but he did the exact opposite. He immediately took action, handled the situation professionally, and resolved it to the best of his ability. I genuinely found that commendable. Because of how kind, respectful, and professional Rich was, I still plan on supporting the business moving forward. For our next event, I actually plan on ordering 3 pies and other items from them. Their food is absolutely amazing! I'll personally be doing pickup moving forward rather than delivery, but I truly do want to support Rich and his business because of how well he handled everything. Then I started with a Negroni and it wasn't what I expected, but it tasted good. At the table we ordered a variety of things and I must say that the food is good. The seafood is cooked to perfection and that goes for the meat as well. The service was good and the waiter, that pretended to be Italian, gave us lots of attention. I've been here several times for lunch. I always get their pizza, because it's always good. Today I had the sausage, peppers, and olive slice. It was delicious. There was a bite of sauce and peppers in every bite and the saltiness of the olives just added to it. I also like their white pie, grandma pie and of course, just a plain slice of pizza. It's nice inside. We order from the counter and then seat ourselves, but there is a large dining area in the back. There's a small bar, but it's nice enough. I've been a customer for years. I food has always been very good. Recently I visited the restaurant and ordered pizza and two fried cappellini. When I asked the counter man for a side sauce I was rudely and quickly was told that it would be an additional 65 cents. This restaurant is at the top of local pizzerias price range and for them to charge $.65 for 1 ounce of sauce is insulting. So before I write this review, I have to preface this with saying that I am a pizza girlie, and I've certainly tried many different pizzerias on Long Island... but this is NEXT LEVEL! After just discovering this Wantagh gem, better late than never I suppose, LOL, I cannot stop raving about Umberto's take on the New York slice -- their high quality ingredients and their authentic touch is surely worth the hype especially when it comes to their incredible crust, fresh tomato sauce, and olive oil. (My mom literally said their pizza reminded her of a slice she had in Italy, and my boyfriend was very much impressed as well!) I recommend the slightly deeper dish slice called the Pazzo -- fresh sausage and peppers and olives and an unreal crust that will have you shouting from the pizza rooftops. I also love their take on the tri-colored Grandma's with three sauces --- marinara, vodka, and pesto. Finally, I have to preach their Chicken Bacon Ranch slice for being SO comforting and balanced. Our Sunday evening 2/23, our dinner was very quickly ruined when my family and I went to Umberto's in Wantagh and we had to repeat our order to the Waiter at least 3x before he seemed to understand what we wanted to order. Please keep in mind that we didn't order anything unusual, we ordered direct from their menu. Once our food came, I knew something was wrong after the first bite. My pasta and mozzarella tasted like clumps of raw dough, and had absolutely NO taste! My son ordered chicken cutlet with pasta, garlic & oil, and even though he stressed "light on the oil" his pasta and chicken were drowning in oil, I've never seen anything like it, it looked like soup! Naturally, he was sick to his stomach a couple of bites later. My son's girlfriend ordered spaghetti and it was barely edible. I also never saw spaghetti so thick, looked more like linguini, and not spaghetti. The Waiter came over a few minutes later and I told him my pasta and mozzarella tasted like raw dough and had absolutely NO taste, he basically said there was nothing he could do. I asked for the manager. Next thing I knew, the Manager approached and began to questioned me. He instantly got very defensive when he heard the food had no taste! He told me it tasted the way it's supposed to taste! I then told him I was Italian and asked if he was Italian. He chose not to answer but then asked if I was born in Italy. I told him I could not eat my dinner and I don't expect to pay for it. This so called person they call a manager, continued to discuss my Italian nationality and then walked away. My family and I decided to leave the restaurant. As we waited up front for my son paying the check, (YES, we DID pay the check) another Waiter or younger Manager approached us and very angrily, he started talking nasty to us and started saying various things like: "you're nothing but Trash, get out of here,"Get out Trash cans," "Get out out Trash! Thank you Umberto's!!! My wife and I went to dinner with my cousins at Umberto's on Saturday night. My cousins traveled to Long Island and wanted to meet us for dinner and asked us to recommend a restaurant. Ahh, the pressure!!! My cousins know good restaurants and I didn't want to disappoint them. So we thought of Umberto's. We've been there many times. For dinner with friends, for weekend and mid-week dinners, and, our favorite, nice sit down lunches during the week. My family even chose Umberto's for dinner after spending the day watching over me in ICU (yup, I survived!). The food is always great. My wife loves the grilled chicken with broccoli rabe. She still talks about a special she had with gnocchi, sausage and broccoli rabe. They make a great cappuccino and have delicious desserts. Umberto's is a pizzeria and restaurant. They have more casual seating up front and then opens up into a beautiful more formal restaurant in back. I haven't been to Italy, but I kind of feel like I'm there in that room. Big Guy Comfort Factor of 9. Very sturdy chairs. I did feel like it could have been a deeper seat for maximum comfort. Nice and clean bathrooms and ample parking - although it is a very busy strip mall. They had two N.A. beer selections - Heineken Zero and O'Doul's. I had the Heineken in a nice frosted glass. The service is very very good. Very attentive. They must be good to their employees because their waiters and waitresses stay there for years and years. We had a waiter (can't remember his name) who worked at our local pizzeria for many years and then he moved on to Umberto's probably 10 to 15 years ago. He was very very friendly and attentive to my wife and I and especially to our guests. The food was awesome. I had homemade sausage with broccoli rabe over capellini in a garlic olive oil sauce. Amazing. My cousin had the Sunday Sauce and really enjoyed it. My wife loved her grilled chicken but just wished it was a little hotter. We had cannolis and cappuccino for dessert. Yummy. It was a great dining experience and my cousin and his wife enjoyed Umberto's - mentioning both the delicious food and the restaurant's great ambiance. Oh, and superior company of course. My wife did mention that the reservation process was a bit difficult. The restaurant is first come first served after 5 p.m. There were plenty of tables when we got there but the restaurant quickly filled. Admitted pizza snob here...first off, I live nowhere near this place but pass by. Had a regular slice, as always when trying a new place, and it was really good! Hot, but not molten magma, and the crust was crispy but still foldable, which is the New York way, thank you. The sauce is key and this is a really nice sauce...not too sweet or salty. The cheeses was melts, if that's a word, and not stringy or salty ( salty is the mark of cheap cheeses, if you ask me). A very solid and tasty slice ...worth a bit of travel out of your way! The star here though is the fried capalini bites with warm marinara for topping. The capalini melts in your mouth and the warm sauce (it's got to be warm) just makes the taste complete! Stopped in on Friday night to pick up hero's , wings and calamari i had ordered. Although it was very busy , my order was ready in the estimated time . I find the food consistently good at Umbertos ! Their tomato sauce tastes like it's been sitting in a big pot all day , like my grandmothers ! Cheese is good quality , bread fresh and crispy . Calamari crispy and tender . Now for me the wings are too thickly coated , just not my favorite style . However , it did not stop me from eating them ! The Manager, as well as the Hostess in the Wantagh location are rude, disrespectful and lack integrity. When visiting the restaurant recently I was ignored and dismissed and treated with disrespect when I voiced a justified grievance. Instead of apologizing for their mistake and lack of service, I was lectured to and not given the courtesy of an apology. In addition, when I asked for the names of the hostess and manager, they refused to furnish this. For a mediocre, at best, neighborhood establishment, this behavior is uncalled for and quite frankly insulting. When the manager has such lack of respect for their customers, it reflects on every aspect of their service. I would not ever return to this location; their rudeness was unjustified on every level. read more

Visited here for lunch with my mom on a Monday afternoon. All umbertos food is great but this experience was absolutely horrible with our service. We wanted a table to sit down at but waited at the hostess stand. EVENTUALLY someone came and sat us. Then our waiter took about 10 minutes to come and greet us. We ordered our drinks. Then we took our appetizer and meal order, together. Which usually I hate doing but the waiter wanted it all together. He brought out our appetizers. Then....our waiter disappeared. We need refills and utensils and wanted a side of dressing. After our appetizers, we sat at our table for about 30 minutes until our mini pizzas were brought out. I had to ask another waiter where it was bc we were waiting a while. Especially for a lunch hour and there was not that many tables. And you know where the mini pizzas were? Sitting at the counter waiting to be brought out! And you know where our waiter was? Sitting at the bar and eating!! The poor bus boys were basically our server. They got us extra utensils, refills, boxes, dressing.. literally anything we asked. Then when we finished we sat there waiting for someone to bring us the check. Our waiter is still sitting at the bar. Eventually I get another waiters attention and he brings us the check. But it's completely wrong! At this point my mom and I had enough. We said loudly hoping our original waiter would hear that if he was taking a break or his shift ended that he should have made us aware and then introduced us to who will be helping us. But nope.
