    Sashimi plate

Service? Phenomenal. Very sweet and tentive. Great conversation. And the outside patio? My goodness but.. by far my favorite was the presentation of their sashimi. Not only was it incredibly fresh tasting fish but the little shark plate was to die for thank you. Had just popped in here to celebrate my promotion at work and I was very pleased and highly recommend

I give the food 5 out of 5 stars! The food tasted amazing. Everything was delicious and perfectly done. The presentation was perfection. Ambiance was beautiful. We sat in the indoor patio. We were greeted and seated by a sweet Caucasian lady. She was all smiles and prompt. Then a different lady came to get our order. She's Pacific Islander(?) she came off a bit rude. One of the rolls we got could have been ordered in 3 different ways, she didn't ask how we wanted it cooked and walked off. The gyoza was available in pork or vegetable, also no option given to us. My husband had to go chase her down to ask for vegetable gyoza because we can't have pork. The food was really great but wish the service matched.

I would give this 3.5 if I could but I can't quite do 4. First off, very clean and welcoming place. Seated quickly and greeted nicely. Quick waters and service. New server but she did amazing and was very attentive. Service was 5/5 and so was the physical place. Oysters- half dozen, good price and they were delicious! Very clean, very large and the citrus combo was really delicious. No fishy smell, very fresh and highly recommend. 10 piece sushi- came with salad and miso soup. Salad was amazing. Not your typical just bagged lettuce and carrots. Fresh, came with strawberries, pineapple, beets and a nice dressing. The miso soup was also delicious. No tofu but did have seaweed and the taste was almost too salty but not actually over the line. Really enjoyed the miso soup. Here's where the lower score comes in. The actually sushi I was so disappointed in. After having such an amazing lead up, it just flopped. Rice to fish ratio was off, too much rice. Not sure if it even was sushi rice but there was something definitely off. The rice didn't hold its shape and it was dry and bland. Usually some mirin or rice vinegar is mixed to add a little hint of flavor but nothing. This led to the fish also being bland and dry? Can raw fish be raw? It wasn't inedible but it really had zero flavor at all. There was also too much wasabi, for my taste. I love nigiri but this was very disappointing. I would go back to try other food but I think the nigiri I will skip. Still if you're in the area, stop by and grab some food.

We were at Pismo area and was looking for a nice dinner place for my birthday weekend and decided on Umi The place is nice and quaint. They actually have an outdoor area but it was too cold to try it. Lol The food was very good. Very fresh ingredients. Our server was very attentive and was checking on us at a good pace.

Service was good. Rice was fresh, short rib was amazing. Sushi was okay, not great maybe it was the roll I got. Outdoor patio is really cute

The BEST SUSHI ON THE CENTRAL COAST. The owner, yes a woman, makes sure everything is fresh & made from scratch including her sauces & salad dressings & she only buys the best fish for everything. Excellence at its finest Exactly what you would expect from a small mom& pop joint.

The Asahi arrived in a frozen mug, which made it even more refreshing. We also ordered the Shell Beach Sunset roll, which had an amazing balance of raw and cooked fish, vegetables, and the added crunch of tempura flakes. All the flavors and textures worked perfectly together. The nine-piece sashimi was beautifully presented and incredibly fresh. For dessert, we had the tempura ice cream and the green tea cheesecake--both were absolutely delicious. Honestly, everything we ordered was fantastic. Our servers, Jasmine and Austin, truly killed it. They were friendly, attentive, and genuinely engaged throughout the meal. The restaurant itself had great lighting and décor, was spotless and well-maintained, even down to the restrooms. Parking was plentiful and free. Overall, we had a wonderful time with family and friends. An amazing experience and definitely worth coming back to.

It was plenty of food and we think it could feed three people easily (or take home leftovers). The mixed tempura was surprisingly good, but we didn't care for the seaweed or house salad. The rolls are always good and we really enjoyed trying most things at once. It's a fun way to try Kanpai! You don't need a reservation in a pair, but consider one if you're a bigger group. Otherwise, you're sat and served quickly. 3.8/5

The oysters were incredibly sweet and creamy, the octopus was perfectly tender without being chewy, and the Kurobuta pork chop was cooked to perfection, juicy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The chicken was another standout, with wonderfully crispy skin and tender, juicy meat. Even the Caesar salad was fresh and exactly what you'd expect from a classic Caesar. I was on my way to Monterey for research and decided to book a last-minute reservation in Pismo…read moreBeach for dinner, and was surprised at how utterly disappointing our experience was when we dined at the Oyster Loft. Perhaps the onus was on me to recognize the shape of a tourist trap, but I was optimistic about this restaurant based on some reviews. The "crudo" plate is nothing of the sort beyond a few sliced pieces of fish on a bed of ice (if you know anything about serving *sashimi*, this is a no-no); to call something "crudo" which is, effectively, a sashimi platter feels... somewhat misleading. We also ordered a selection of oysters and were disappointed to see they were haphazardly shucked so much so that many of the oysters would not detach from their shells as we attempted to eat them. There's nothing so inelegant as trying to suck down an oyster and finding it won't budge (even after you've gently coaxed it with the appropriate utensil). The service also left something to be desired. We ordered a first round of cocktails and wine, and the server never checked on us again to see if we would like another round. I usually don't like to make such late reservations (we arrived for an 8:30pm reservation), so perhaps our server was busy with trying to finish their shift, but it felt like an egregous oversight to both 1) not be asked if we would like more drinks when our glasses were empty for 20 minutes, and 2) to not check in on our waters (we were handed a bottle and we ran out of water throughout the course of our meal, and no one seemed to care). Our dinner was also, unfortunately, interrupted by a large table behind us (about 10-15 people) who were incredibly inebriated and having a raucous good ol' time together (kudos for them, but if you want a more romanic or peaceful setting then I may suggest you dine elsewhere). It may behoove the manager to consider asking such guests to be considerate of others who are dining 3 feet from a group that was easily 6 martinis into their dining experience before their food came. Is the view gorgeous? Yes. Is it worth the price, and the seeming lack of service? Absolutely not. I will not be returning, but I suspect that is of little consequence when a restaurant such as this has the premium on prime dining real estate in this lil' beach town. May the luck be ever in your favor should you choose to dine here, and may you experience the bare modicum of service that such prices should include. Just my two cents!

Rarely do I walk away from a dining experience where the quality of service and quality of food fight to outshine one another, but this was one of those spots. Our server, a German gentleman, was the consummate professional- always friendly, never overstepping, and added such a warm dimension to our meal. The fried green tomatoes and the white beet appetizers were standouts. I especially loved the vinegary dressing on the greens of the beet dish. For mains, we got the leek olive potato pizza, the ribeye, and the wood fire poached halibut. The avocado chimichurri that accompanied the ribeye was the perfect balance, and the sautéed greens under the fish were savory with the right amount of bite. I also liked their selection of mocktails; the pink pony club was a particular standout. All this for $200 was a better price tag than I was expecting, but most importantly, it got the stamp of approval from my notoriously picky grandmother and uncle. This spot is worth the drive.

Probably one of the most expensive sushi places I've been to. $14 for a Cali hand roll. It was large and the rice had an odd sweet flavor to it? Wasn't a fan. I got the tonkatsu ramen. Only meat, onion, and added tofu. It said it would come with slices but it came with chunks of pork that was boiled.. I wanted the slices. The ramen itself was alright. However, we were told that egg wasn't available at the moment and so we weren't able to taste that and saved an extra $2.50 off our bill (expensive for just one egg). We were told that since they just opened, the food would take longer than expected (roughly around 15-20 minutes). However, to our surprise it came in 10 minutes! Now for the food review, it was okay. The ramen was bland and not spicy at all. I had let the server know that it wasn't spicy as was promised and expected and if we could have some spice to add onto it. He came back with a little side of just chili oil, this was a regretful addition because we later found out that it's an additional $1.50 for such a small amount of chili oil, ridiculous. I don't think I'll be returning due to surge in additional prices that we were not aware of and the fact that the food wasn't good.
