I had an interesting experience with Cars of LA as someone selling a car, not buying a car…read more I found them through my research online, I was looking for a business similar to Carvana where they make it seamless to sell a car. As I stumbled upon their website, I noticed that everything looked great. The website was well done with its branding, and the online form submittal with the VIN# match was spot on. Also, the overall look and feel of the site were good, which gave me some comfort. https://www.carsofla.com/ - in fact, they offered me $13,000 via text and wanted me to set up an appointment for an inspection. It was clear on their website that a representative will come over with all the necessary documents. (See attached screenshot from their website). This was false. From my multiple communication via text and also submitting another request from their form online, it was clear that they had no representative and that I had to drive my car into their shop for an inspection. That didn't bother me that much; it was only a 1/2 hour drive. When I arrived, I was a bit surprised. There was no shop. It was an office building, and there were no signs that said "Cars of LA". I entered through a door with a sign that said "....Trading Co." I can't quite remember exactly what it said. When I entered, the office was empty. It's a fairly large office space with about 3-4 small offices and a lobby area. Eventually, a gentleman showed up for my appointment, and we walked out to my car for an inspection. He first pulled out a device that I wasn't familiar with. Later, I found that it was a paint thickness gauge. He checked the paint throughout my car to make sure the reading on the device was under "7." He eventually found some parts of the exterior body that read over 7. He said my car was damaged and had been worked on before, which was not true. My car was never damaged or repainted for any reason. We went back into his office, and he offered me $9000 for the car. What? How did it go from $13,000 to $9000? It was so weird. And the whole paint thickness device was super weird, too. I don't know much about "purchasing used cars for resale business," so please forgive me if this is a standard protocol, but I felt a bit manipulated by this procedure. Anyway, I am not saying don't do business with them; I am just posting this to give the readers a more realistic expectation of selling their car through Cars of LA. Hope this is helpful.

Selling private is the best for you and your buyer since you both get a better deal. The problem for us is there's no easy way to reach prospective buyers plus you need to have the patience to deal with all the scammers and low ballers. These guys will handle everything and they always reach out to you to check in and offer some feedback on price. Assuming what I felt was "axle rap", I thought little of it until, we made it home, went to work the next morning when on the freeway, all stopped. The trans took out the torque converter and then forward pressure took out the crankshaft bearings. Not his fault. It was a used truck with low miles. Then,, a few months later I called him, told him what happen and he offered "anything I've got at price. So sorry about the truck" Picked up another Cummins, but newer, a few more miles. We sold in Cali, moved next door, while pulling the 5th wheel the 5hour drive took me just about 23.5 hours due to the overheating of the cracked head/blown head gasket. Stranded. I knew no one. I had no idea where to go. Found the Dodge dealer they gave me a $23,500 quote for a new engine. Called Amir. Told him what's going on. He said "OH WELL. YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE BOUGHT ANYTHING FROM ME." Then he rushed to the bank and cashed out the pre-written checks we agreed about, helping me out, All post dated. Couldn't contact the bank soon enough. I had JUST bought this truck from him, assuming it wasn't going to let me down on the road trip. Then turned into a $24,000, on top of the $27,000 I JUST paid him for it, not but a few days prior. $51,000 for a pile of metal. I thought little of the first truck and any kind of fault of his. Neither did I find fault in the second one, entirely, but maybe a little bit, being it last me very little miles. It's the attitude he gave me when I told him the truck I JUST BOUGHT is dead in the water that got me a bit on the bad side, then him rushing to the bank, cashing the pre-dated checks was just the tip of everything!
