We came in with a group of seven people. We were greeted promptly and seated quickly. Ambiance was clean, modern, and spacious. We each ordered a dish to share family style. All dishes were good. I would definitely come back if in the area. Service was good, however, with not too many tables while we were there, the service could have been a little more attentive.

Uncle Chen has quickly become my go-to for Chinese food in Fountain Valley. The space is bright, clean, and open, and the staff are genuinely warm. Our server Ann made a couple of menu suggestions that turned out to be the best things at the table. We went with the Fish filet and Pork belly, and both were spot on with great wok flavor, well-balanced heat, and portions big enough for leftovers.

I want to love this place, but the verdict is still out. I've been about four times now, and the biggest issue has been consistency. Every visit has been a little different, and one of those visits was honestly a complete flop. When it's good, it's really good. But when it's off, it's noticeably off. The decor is nice, albeit a little overdone for the space, but still an improvement from the darker, moodier Fortune Cookie that was there before. I'm hoping it's just part of the new restaurant growing pains and that they'll get things dialed in, because there's definitely potential here. Service has been fine, nothing bad, but nothing that really stands out either. With a little more consistency across the board, I could see this place being a go-to. I'll probably give it another try or two and see how it plays out. TBD for now.

I checked out this new Chinese place w/ my golf buddies, and I'm glad we did. UC is on Brookhurst in FV, where Fortune Cookie used to be. Four of us shared wonton soup, Mingolian beef, honey walnut shrimp, orange peel chicken and stir fry green beans (latter not pictured). First of all, there were a lot of packed wontons in the soup. I really enjoy this comfort dish, and was glad when no one else wanted seconds. Secondarily, the beef was tender and nicely seasoned. It didn't have much heat but my Caucasian crew liked the dish. Likewise, the shrimp were plump and did not have too much sauce like a lot of places. Thirdly, the chicken was not heavy on the batter nor overpowering with the sauce. Lastly, the beans could have been more crispy, but otherwise were okay. One thing I did notice is that the portions of all items were average in relation to the price. Regarding the ambiance, its neat and clean in the dining area. There is plenty of space b/t the tables. Our waitress Mary hails fr Indonesia, and she was friendly & warm. She took very good care of us. We tried another Chinese place up the street (only 3 Stars), and we all agreed we like UC better. We will definitely return here for our after golf lunch. I'd like to try some apps like cucumber salad, scallion pancakes and XLBs next time.

First time coming to the newly opened Uncle Chen's in person and had a great meal, excellent service (even though we came right before closing and were the only ones there). The lighting and decor is terrific, much improved from the old place(Fortune Cookies)! We had two of the soups with plenty for leftovers- hot and sour, wonton. Also the green beans were delicious! We'll be back soon.

Seems like they only welcomed certain group of customers. Expect poor service and small portions if you are not part of the preferred customers. Will not be returning ever.

Came here to try out this new Chinese restaurant. They just open recently. Lunch menu offers a varieties of entrees. It comes with soup, egg roll, rice and a choice of entrees. $11.75 to $13.75. 7 days a week during lunch. Food; Beef roll 5/5 the beef was tender and paired well with the green onion pancake wrap. Shrimp egg roll. 5/5 filled with flavorful shrimp paste. Stir Fried green beans 5/5 I really enjoyed the green beans. They were tender but still had a nice crunch, and the seasoning brought out their natural flavor. Dan dan noodles 5/5 it was bold, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. Every bite was delicious. Aromatic prawns 5/5 I loved the aromatic shrimp! They had an amazing aroma and were bursting with flavor--definitely a highlight of the meal. Friendly service. Beautiful and clean interior. Plenty of parking in the lot. We will definitely come back again to try their other menu items.

This eatery is fantastic! They just finished renovating the entire building. It looks spectacular and their menu is fantastic! I had a birthday lunch with a friend and we shared a number of appetizers and entrées and brought home quite a bit because their portions are so generous! Highly recommend this company for dining in taking out or delivery. They used to be called the fortune cookie but when they renovated, they changed the name still the same delicious food, and management and servers.!!

Chinese food is my top fave and everyone in Fountain Valley says there's no good chinese food here! But Uncle Chen's just opened so we had to give it a try. The hot and sour soup was yummy, very standard and it's a big bowl to share between 2-4 people. We also ordered a black bean fish dish (this is typically a very common one). This one came out red/orange with no sign of black beans. Upon tasting it, it was just like sweet and sour chicken. So we asked our waiter, who was soooo attentive and helpful btw, if this was accidentally sweet and sour sauce. He went to ask the owner and she looked very irritated and said they use a special bean sauce. OK then. So maybe this is a different type of Chinese cuisine. Overall, the food was not really special (but the service was phenomenal).

If you want to get chow fun or something off these menus, order them first because they take a few minutes to cook. Chow mein and chow fun both had great wok hei and both come with massive portions. The meats aren't the highest quality and the beef is a bit tough, but the quantity and the price make up for it. Hot and sour soup was nice and sour and the large comes in a small bucket. Blessed to have graced this Chinese Takeout spot for the flavor, portion, and price. So much value. For one, the House Chicken was a hit. Sweet and savory with soft jalapenos. The BBQ Pork was tender, not like how most places have the dryest version of this (given some pieces were hard but most were juicy). The Fried Octopus was good value for seafood, but did not have too much flavor unless paired with the Sweet and Sour sauce. Chow Mein and Fried Rice are standard and solid. Exactly what you'd expect, and just enough flavor. I'd this should be your go-to for American-Chinese takeout if you are nearby. Plenty of people staffing the place and quick service, and crowded so you know it's good (and fresh from the turnover). Didn't expect it to have as big of a dining area as it did, so if you're into that they have it. Plenty of other options outside of the Classic Takeout dishes, like they have Chow Fun, which I'll be back go try. Shoutout to Lucky Chinese Food holding it down.

And I am SO glad we did because everything about our experience was seriously a 10/10! From the moment we walked in, the customer service was amazing. He was so friendly, outgoing, attentive, and helpful, especially when it came to giving us recommendations since it was our first time there. He had such a positive energy and really made our experience even better. And the FOOD!!! If I could give it 1,000/10, I seriously would. We tried the Ube Cloud, Vietnamese Iced Coffee, Garlic Parmesan Fries, Spicy Shrimp Wontons, Corn Ribs, Garlic Butter Prawns, and Filet Garlic Noodles, and honestly, there wasn't ONE thing we didn't enjoy. Everything was full of flavor and absolutely delicious. But what really stood out to us was that it wasn't just the food -- it was the entire experience. The staff, the atmosphere, the music, and just the overall vibe made us feel so comfortable and welcomed. The music they were playing was amazing too! My friend and I were enjoying ourselves, eating good food, listening to good music, and just having such a great time. The whole place honestly had such a warm, homey feeling to it. When we were leaving, the gentleman who had greeted and seated us earlier ended up having a whole conversation with my friend and me. He was so sweet and personable! He mentioned that they may be opening a location in Culver City, and I told him I really hope they do because that would be much closer to home for me. I was even joking with him that if they open one, they need to bring the whole staff from this location over there too because everyone here was THAT amazing. At the same time, even if there ends up being a location closer to me, I would honestly still make the drive back to this one. When you visit somewhere for the first time and have such a great experience, that location becomes special. You can visit the same restaurant somewhere else, but the people, atmosphere, and experience aren't necessarily going to feel the same. This location definitely left that kind of impression on us. I really hope this review reaches management because the staff here deserves the recognition. Everyone we interacted with was wonderful, and Quang especially took such great care of us. This was our first time at VOX Kitchen, but it DEFINITELY won't be our last. We also ordered the green beans, which were pretty solid. Lots of garlic and that added so much flavor to the beans. There was also beef roll, which my brothers noticed that there's more veggies in it now compared to when they went some months ago. No complaints because it was delicious. We also had the garlic noodles with chicken. This one was just okay. Nothing to write home about. The noodles were t as chewy as I like but overall, it's not bad at all. The shrimp fried rice and kung pao chicken were pretty good too - pretty basic but still had good flavor. The dry pork ribs were so so good. It was soft and easy to eat, even with the cartilage. The mapo tofu wasn't spicy but loved the big bold flavors it had. Definitely needed to eat this with some plain white rice. We also ordered the broccoli and those were just standard. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, the staff was incredibly friendly, and the restaurant was very clean. We especially loved the fish congee -- the fish was super fresh, and you definitely have to get the Chinese fried dough (youtiao) to go with it! Their dill turmeric sizzling fish was also AMAZING and definitely a must-try. So glad we found this place. We'll definitely come back whenever we're in the area!

It's a sizzling platter of pan-fried fish cooked with fragrant dill and scallions, served tableside with fresh vegetables, rice paper, and herbs so you can build your own wraps. I've ordered it here at least three times, and it's been consistently outstanding every single visit. The fish is perfectly seasoned, and the aroma from the dill and scallions alone is enough to make your mouth water. I also highly recommend their selection of congee. Each version is made to order with your choice of meats, and the porridge has that silky-smooth, creamy consistency that makes it the ultimate comfort food. Rich, hearty, and incredibly satisfying, it's one of those dishes that keeps you coming back for another spoonful.
