My husband and I found Uncle D's 2 years ago and now we're Sunday regulars. It's a family business and they hit it out of the park every week. Amazing food, great service and the place is spotless. We usually stick with breakfast and all our meals have been delicious. Consistently great food every week with HUGE portions. I love the omelettes. They are fluffy and delicious and all the ingredients are super fresh. My husband loves the waffles, pancakes, sausage biscuits with gravy and eggs Benedict. As far as lunch, the Buffalo chicken salad and the Cadillac Taco are to die for. The prices are great too. They can have crowds on weekends, especially after church gets out but the food is always ready really quick. 10/10 would recommend. read more

My husband and I just came here for breakfast for the first time. We live in Newington about 5 minutes down the road & let me tell you this place is so freakin good! I can't believe we haven't been before! I got the Irish Benedict & he got two eggs over easy with homemade corned beef hash with sourdough. The corned beef hash was SOOO amazing - fresh corned beef like not from a can corned beef. Service was fast, friendly and the place was super clean. We can't wait to try more items from the breakfast & lunch menus! Highly highly recommend! read more

Lived near this diner for many years and always thought it was probably bad because all the previous diners at this location were terrible but a salesman at a local furniture store (I know right?) told me I had to go there and give it a chance. It's a goldmine of yummy goodness!! Man oh man that Cadillac Taco they have is incredible - the burgers - the breakfasts - I'm loosening my belt just thinking about it. Ok, so this is one of those occasions when Yelp does not give enough stars. We have been going to Uncle Ds since we moved to the area last fall - always for breakfast items. Biscuits and gravy is crazy good - the gravy Is not your usual gravy to the point whereby it doesn't matter if my wife has something else, she has a cup of gravy on the side. Chili omelette has to be tried - sounds odd but once you have tried it you will be hooked; same with their special omelettes - I had meatball marinara omelette once and it changed my view of breakfast food! Burgers are also fantastic as well with great fries, pickle, and coleslaw (the coleslaw is homemade and I could eat 1/2 pound just on its own). Now, here is the sixth star - this is a local place run by a local family for everyone - and they truly value your business. In all the times we have been in we have never had a chance to find fault, except today when we were overlooked by the server and I had to go and ask if someone could take our order. These things happen, I know, no big deal - but Darren, the owner came over and made it right and told us how he appreciated our business. A friend recommended we came here and I'm so glad he did. Our waitress Juliana was the sweetest server. The food was amazing! We had a chocolate shake that was super good and the biscuits and gravy is better than you get down south. We can't wait to come back for lunch because what we saw being served around us looked amazing as well! So much good ruined by one very specific bad thing... Uncle D's is a favorite place for us to get breakfast on the weekend. Great food, fast service, and terrific staff. When the pandemic changed our habits die eating out, it was almost a full year before we tried to return. But, return we did! We stopped for breakfast on February 28,2021. We were glad to see that the restaurant was open and there was a table available. Normally, you have to wait to be seated, but they are operating at a reduced level of customers dining in. They are only seating people at every other table, staff is wearing masks, customers are required to wear masks, and they are providing hand sanitizer at the tables. We were recognized by our regular server, even though we had masks on and it had been so long. A little catch up chit chat, we ordered, and our for came out fast and hot. As usual, service and good were great - we even opted to take a dish of macaroni and cheese home for dinner. One thing that has always been the norm is seeing the owner passing through the restaurant and interacting with patrons. This continues, and the customers do appreciate it. BUT It is clear that the owner does not believe in the rules for operating a business because he never pulled his neck gaiter up over his mouth the entire time we were there. No matter how closely he was interacting with anyone (staff or patrons), he took no measures to ensure that he was not putting others at risk. Even though we believe there's a strong likelihood that he may be vaccinated, he still needs to wear a face covering to protect others around him. We were told that his wife essentially didn't want to return to work because he wouldn't wear a mask. Apparently, if she is present, he will wear a face covering. But, he doesn't care enough about his customers to wear one at all times like the rest of his staff. And he apparently doesn't believe that the rules his customers must follow for safety apply to him. IF we go back, it won't be until we are both vaccinated and we know that he has smartened up and is following safety protocols himself. It's too bad that his defiant attitude is so obvious because he's lost a customer as a result of his "non believing." read more

Food is very good (we have only done breakfast - which is always outstanding. Service is quick and friendly and efficient. Atmosphere is typical diner. We enjoy Uncle D's. It is usually very crowded, especially on the weekends, so keep that in mind. It is not unusual to see a line out the door, waiting for a table, during the busy hours on Saturday and Sunday. read more

A new favorite of mine. Uncle D's diner is bustling,friendly typical looking diner. The people are real, so is the butter (not the horrible margarine blend so popular in diners), pancakes are real and had a real homemade taste. I had mine with a ripe banana and real whipped cream and even if the whipped cream came from a can, it was good. One can order real maple syrup with your waffles for a bit more. The menu is diner fare and reasonably priced. The presence of acoustic tiles dampens the sound of many people enjoying themselves, so it is not overwhelmingly loud. The waitstaff were attentive and worked diligently to keep the coffee and water glasses filled. I am a water drinking fiend, and appreciate it. One amazing addition-they have a live acoustic guitar player/singer playing fun tunes. He's good and he appreciates tips. read more

I'm updating my review because it's been almost 4 years since I first wrote about it. This is our go-to place for diner food, when we don't want to wait outside at O'Rourkes. They have both breakfast and lunch food equally good. I like that they actually have a host to seat people, in the traditional diner set up you don't typically see a person assigned to the host role. Today I had the Patty melt special on grilled rye. It was super juicy and flavorful. I also like their coleslaw. My husband had the chilli dog which had the casing that makes a satisfying snap when you bite into it. Their fries are natural cut and they garnish their plates with pickle spears. Recently we revisited Uncle D's for breakfast and were not disappointed. The food was excellent as always. Try the carrot cake muffin, to die for with the cream cheese! While sitting there, people came in for lunch and we heard them talking about the clam chowder so we took some home. Yes, the clam chowder is everything they say it is. Have not had anything bad here yet. Must come more often and the service is super. 5 stars for sure!!! read more

Absolutely adore this place! Have been here a few times and am tempted to order something new everytime to try because it is just that good! First off, the service is phenomenal. You are greeted and seated instantly [if theres seats available of course]. Once you place your order your food arrives in 5 minutes - no joke!! Popped in this past Saturday for some breakfast and there was a gentlemen playing live music. Talk about relaxing! The staff and owners are the kindest people. Ia classic diner, I 've been here often for breakfast and it's consistently good. Service is quick and the servers are great. Last week I tried one of the wraps. It was huge, brought half it and half the home fries home for the next day. And, it was delish, both times. I asked for eggs and cheddar and the spinach wrap. The eggs came stuffed with spinach too. In the words of my daughter when I asked her 4 stars or 5, she told me... 5, I like the different rooms, the pancakes are really good, and they're shaped like mickey. I agree, I could go 4 for food, but definitely 5 for staff. Super friendly every time you come in, but this was the first time stopping in on a weekend. There was a queue of about 6 tables ahead of us, so we put our name in and within 7-8 mins were seated. Sit down and immediately greeted for a beverage order despite the place being at capacity. Coffee and milk come out quickly, place our order, and again I'm surprised at how quickly the food came out due to the amount of customers. Aside from all that, Uncle D himself came to the table, asks how everything is, and asks if my daughter would like a donut to bring home. OR a cupcake since there were leftovers from St. Patricks day celebration. Made her day. Little things like that for the kids make all the difference when I ask where they want to go next time. Great burger, fries, cole slaw and pickle. Dans spicy chicken wing sauce on the side kicked the burger up a couple of notches. My daughter had a mushroom onion and cheese omelet. Omelet was loaded full of all the fixins and she said it was the best she had in a long time. The home fries were tasty and grilled English muffin was a treat too. This place was having a jam packed Sunday morning but they did a good job of moving things along. Friendly servers. Food was better than a lot of the nearby diners, and was plentiful and pretty to look at. But - we ended up feeling that we had a great quantity of just ok diner food that was close to being something much better but didn't get there. Lots of good Benedict choices but hollandaise was broken and in need of flavor. Son's vanilla milkshake had a nice splootch of whipped cream and looked good and all, but it didn't taste like...vanilla. Burgers, tacos, etc the same - big heaping plates but just kind of bland. I was hoping this would be a favorite new place, and it might be if they paid as much attention to flavor as to quantity and appearance. read more
