Instagram led me to this great find of a deli hidden in the city of Downey. Going to keep this short as I am eating my sandwich and having a beer typing this. Great old deli vibe to the place. George was definitely a pleasure to chat with while browsing for beers and ordering sandwiches Togo. He was extremely polite and helpful was very welcoming. He even offered Mac salad and potato salad on the house to try as it was my first time there. I ordered the TBA no avocado and no tomatoes. As I am eating it and writing this right now the sandwich is very hearty, meaty stacked goodness. Definitely a winner for a easy going clubhouse. I also ordered the Sicilian but will update as I will be destroying that sandwich later tonight. Grabbed a few beers to go also. Upon looking in my bag he also hooked it up with some house made cookies. Thank you George! What can I say it's a deli/bar. Grab a beer and get your sandwich Togo during these pandemic times. So uncle Henry's, heard a lot about this place. What can I say but who doesn't love a good delicatessen? I've tried several sandwiches and it does not disappoint. Value: not bad as delicatessens usually charge an exorbitant amount of money for a good sandwich. Nice portions as you pay for what you get and can go small or go big. Of course a homemade sandwich is better but who has a wall full of taps with difficult to find triple ales? The atmosphere: the place is a little small but if you go during non prime nights you should find a seat. Nice people and great staff. A good amount of televisions to watch sports or ufc. Quality: this is where they shine. The quality of meat and cheeses are very good. Try a corned beef and you will not be disappointed. Nice place, nice people, beer selection is phenomenal. I was craving a sandwich for lunch today. Subway? No. Jersey Mike's? Na. Jimmy John's? Uh uh. Although, those places would normally be acceptable places. But not today. Today, I was craving a sandwich that 'The Sandwich Gods' would be proud of! I ordered, 'The Sicilian' sandwich. On a 9" roll, ham, hard salami, capicola, prosciutto, provolone cheese, parmesan cheese, mayo, spicy mustard, black olives, pepperoncinis, red onions, lettuce, tomatoes and Italian dressing. Needless to say, it was phenomenal! I added a side of hot baked beans and some Maui Onion chips. I gotta mention this, I'm a big guy, I only ate half of my sandwich. This is the quintessential town deli plus a fun spot for beer. Their sandwiches are big and filling. I love the veggie it's my favorite! But I've had the Ruben and the pastrami are both good too. It's small inside but I always get to go. They used to have a person taking your order but recently switched to like a self checkout/ self order computer system. It's not my favorite but wouldn't stop me from coming here. I think someone will still take your order too if you ask! read more

LOVE THIS PLACE! I first heard about uncle Henry's through a friend that grew up in Downey. When we first showed up I liked how small the place was with their school bench looking seats. After you sit down and order I realized they had a wall of beers! I was in heaven! For my first sandwich there I got the Big B, highly recommend it! I've been back multiple times since I've been there, I literally have tried most of the menu and usually grab a six pack of their craft beers! This is usually my cheat meal for the week, I try to make it a habit but try to pace myself as well otherwise I'd be here every day and weigh about 400lbs Thanks Henry's deli and your staff and finally having the ufc fights back up! We stopped by after hitting some golf balls, down the street. We've been here a few times, never disappointed. My wife ordered a Rueben sandwich, I had my usual, the Pastrami. Both were delicious. We also had a couple beers, go figure. LOL The beer selection here is beyond the ordinary, and is extraordinary!! For take home, some deli meats, cheeses and a couple pickles. Second time here. Ordered a custom sandwich which they start off around $11.75. You place the order yourself using a kiosk. The kiosk is somewhat simple to use. After completing my order the total came out to $11.75 + tax. It wasn't too busy there so my order came out quickly. I was on my lunch break so I did not try any of their craft beers. However, it appears they have a wide selection. Overall the sandwich is a generous size and it was good. I ordered it on a french roll (9 inch) so it was more bready than I would like because they had to spread out the meat. Next time, I'll probably try it on their regular sliced white bread. read more

George and his crew just catered a memorial for about 300 guests and everyone raved about the food and selection. Sandwiches, coleslaw, potato salad, chips and the best chocolate chip cookies ever! Everything was very fresh and the bread was so soft. It melted in your mouth. There was so much left over that the guest were taking trays of food home. Highly recommend for catering events. George, thanks for helping during the memorial with the additional tables and chairs as people continued to arrive. You are awesome!! 9-24-19. Just came here for the first time to eat at the deli and I cannot believe it's even better when it's warm and fresh. I devoured my Bacon Cheese Melt and side of Beans with Cheese. My friend had the pastrami sandwich, gone! My other friend had a Sicilian, gone! And last friend had the Rachel, also gone! We all devoured/inhaled our food. This spot is awesome! Good tunes, good vibes and most importantly, good grub! So far I've tried the Rachel, Pastrami, Italian Stallion, and TBA (Turkey, Bacon, Avocado) sandwiches and enjoyed them all. The Rachel and TBA are my faves so far. Great combination of flavors and the ingredients are evenly dispersed so each bite is enjoyable. The Pastrami sandwich was tasty but the Rachel just had more going on (cheese and sauerkraut). The Italian Stallion was good but I ate it at home and bread got a bit soggy so I couldn't fully appreciate it. I'll have to grab another one and eat it freshly made. Staff was super welcoming and down to earth. They had some great tunes playing when I ate there. Recall hearing some great Rush songs. They also had a good selection of beer I'm eager to come back and try. Definitely a good local spot to grab a sammich accompanied by a nice cold beer. It feels like Uncle Henry went to DC at the beginning of January and hasn't been right since. I have been coming to Uncle Henry's for a while but I stopped for a good minute and then on top of that the pandemic started. Went back recently and the sandwiches were still good and the selection of beer on tap is ok. It think they got better with their selection that they have in the fridges. The thing that lowered my overall rating was the new atmosphere. It seems like it started to attract a certain type of wanna be edgy crowd. Uncle Henry's has always seemed like a total guy place but now it is filled with over the top old and young alpha bros that seem to be projecting. The type Dudes that would get butt hurt and argue with you because blue is a life but in actuality it's a job. I feel that the attitude of the owners/employees seem to encourage that way of thinking and behaving as well. I used to like going there because people drank, ate and socialized to an extant with others. What I witnessed the last time I went was not the Uncle Henry's that I knew. It was just a bunch of bros and old dudes that probably drink ipa's to get fucked up quicker. I feel that having that type of element in such a small proximity along with other people that think they have something to prove, an equation for a bad vibe and atmosphere. Something has gone horribly wrong with one of my favorite spots. Used to be a 4 and yet somehow they pushed me to a 2. Unsanitary, lower quality product, and loud/angry borderline questionable rhetoric from a single older staff member. Food: I usually get the Italian stallion but my last visit a little over a month ago I was given a sad (chain) version. Sanitation / Attitude POOR !!! As a business owner i understand and empathise with the difficulties that come when regulations are imposed BUT also realise the customer doesnt feel like being bombarded with political beliefs or rhetoric. We are their to spend our money and get good service in a welcoming environment. Instead I listened to an older loud mouth staffer complain fir 20 minutes about having to wear 2 masks when i could see he wasnt even wearing one. So why obnoxiously complain and draw attention to yourself when you arent even wearing one. On top of that, the person making my sandwich had his mask pulled down as well. I MUST POINT OUT if i really had malice or a problem with this I, or any one else, could have easily reported this location, and probably had some hefty fines slapped on them. Personaly, I beleive in the "time and place" policy when speaking my mind, although this guy obviously doesnt care who he alienates. He spoke about specific groups of people in a way that made me feel uncomftorable. Unless something is changed i will no longer be a patron of this establishment. NOTE: The only reason i gave it a 2 star is some of the staff communicated their uneasiness with the older staffers behavior and comments. This showed me 2 things. 1st this guy doesnt care about his staff but secondly, that good people still work here and maybe they can help create a positive change in its business practices. read more
