Uncle Johns is the TGIFridays of breakfast foods. The menu was interesting, almost like IHOP on steroids with items like Swedish Pancakes with Ligonberries and Oreo Belgium Waffles. The food was pretty good, although, there wasn't a difference between the pancakes and the crepes. The taste was there and the waitstaff was very attentive. When I first moved to Toledo, I thought the Original Pancake House was like the one I was familiar with (located in Grosse Pointe, MI). The one in GP is yummy and worth waking up for. Then I tried the one in Toledo and I was totally disappointed. Then a friend told me - Uncle John's is the way to go. I AGREE! I showed up here on a busy Sunday morning with the whole crew; wife son and baby. We got right in and service was prompt. Not only was our waitress attentive and friendly, she was able to ask the detail questions before I had a chance to be picky. There's nothing worse than a breakfast without the right eggs, no? I had the German pancake which came out hot to trot. They were a little light on the powdered sugar, so ask for extra if you need it. The lemons were fresh and juicy, although I found myself picking random seeds off here and there. All in all a great pick. They even got my added poached egg right. Came here for Father's Day with a group of 6 adults plus a baby. We were quoted 20-25 minutes. Forty minutes later and after watching two parties of 7 and 8 who came in after us get seated before us, we talked to a manager and she was on the case. She said they would push two tables together right away, but this took another 30 minutes. When we finally were escorted to the back we passed two unused large tables. I'm less annoyed about the long wait (I mean it's Father's Day after all) than I am with the poor logistics. It really shouldn't be this hard. Uncle John's Pancake house is kind of a dive in Toledo, OH. It has really good food, and good service. If you're in the mood for breakfast, order an omelette! They're HUGE! And they come with pancakes, so, if you leave hungry, it's your own fault. If you're in the mood for lunch or dinner, order one of their burgers. Their burgers are double patties, so they are also HUGE, but you can get a single patty for the same price. They are a touch on the greasy side, but this is a greasy spoon, so, it's what you'd expect. The fries are super crisp and crunchy and delicious. If you go for lunch, or dinner, they're not very busy at all, but they do close early. In the morning they are PACKED! So, go later if you can. We were visiting Toledo and searching for breakfast. Saw the Original Pancake House sign planted on the corner, and thought this place was the Original Pancake House. Instead, this is its coarser, cheaper brother. The Portions are bigger, the menu is larger, the prices are cheaper, and the quality is lesser. Much of the varieties of pancakes ordered by the table was goopy and overly sweet. After leaving, and being puzzled by the mediocre to poor experience, we realized the Original Pancake House was around the corner, but sort of next door, and the sign was planted in front of the gas station that occupies the true corner of the intersection to lure you to it.....The next day we went there, so check out that review as well. read more

Ugh. Uncle John's is gross. I would love to see a health inspector take a trip to this restaurant. Before you go eat here, take a trip to the bathroom. It smells like a nasty gas station bathroom like urine and disease. It is visibly filthy. Now, if the bathroom is that nasty and is visible to customers, then just imagine what the kitchen must look like. Unfortunately I didn't see this until after my meal. The service was terrible and unfriendly. The waitress left us for long spells and then managed to screw up our simple order. For as long as I can remember, my family has been going to Uncle Johns and the food is always good. Yesterday, however was the absolute best. I ordered the strawberry waffle and it changed everything. The waffle was so light and fluffy and topped with real strawberries and whipped cream. Whoever prepared it had hands blessed by the gods. Absolutely the best breakfast in Toledo. Choose between some 20 different omelets, all shockingly fluffy and featuring some bizarre (but perfect) ingredients. Despite have been dozens of times, the omelets are too various and too perfect to stray from, so I can't comment on the rest of the menu. But yes, this is a pancakes house and I should talk about that too. The pancakes are fantastic and perfectly sized (around 6 inches diameter) and every table has 4 fruity syrups and 1 maple syrup to choose from. Make sure to go on Wednesday for all-you-can-eat pancakes for only $2! My wife and I have fallen in love with this place. The staff are friendly, and the breakfast is good. If you live in Toledo the Coupon Saver at several grocery's in the area has a coupon inside. John's does a great job in seating people during busy times, and you never feel rushed out. I would reccommend arriving before 10am and taking advantage of the breakfast specials M-F. I would stick to the breakfast because the rest of the menu is one huge question mark. I order some awful warm turkey sanwich for lunch one time it was poor in quality. Cheap salty deli meat, and lettuce on a warm sandwich. Stick to what John's is known for and you will leave fat and happy. read more

Gail our waitress was wonderful, she took our order, offered us meal combinations that saved us a couple dollars. The food came back to the table looking great and quicker than I expected!! Uncle Johns is the place to go for a big relatively cheap breakfast. It's the place to go to on a Saturday/Sunday morning, when all you want in life is some hearty,greasy goodness. It's relatively close to UT, so it's definitely a college student's dream, and fits the college student's budget, and they even offer a student discount when you have your student ID. I've spent many a weekend mornings dining here with my friends. Solid place to go, where you know you will get a lot of food, for a good price. Went for the first time with my young daughter and the service was great! They were so nice to my daughter and even made special Mickey Mouse pancakes for her. We both got pancakes and we got large portions for a cheap price. This is old school breakfast/lunch. My kids absolutely love it, I don't think it's changed since I was going there as a kid, they even still have a (now non-functional) phone booth as well as vending machine that the kids can spend their $$s in. Not the most amazing food, but solid, be careful with your order and get the right kind of meal for a breakfast place (though I've ordered the Andouille sausage before and that was actually quite good) and you won't be disappointed, just don't expect steakhouse quality steaks or gourmet presentation. As far as greasy spoons, this is the best. It actually has character and history. The food is always decent and the servers are pretty much always on spot. Coffee is always full and food is hot. I love the option of getting pancakes instead of toast. And we ain't talking stupid little silver dollar cakes. You get 3 full buttermilks, baby! The syrup options make me smile. I would take most visitors there and keep the money local as opposed to a chain. You can actually have a conversation and hear each other if you stop chewing long enough. The portions are great, especially any side of potato (fries, uncle johns fries, and garlic mashed potatoes are the best). - Potato sides seem to encompass two large full-sized potatoes. - Omelets seem to have 3 eggs and a lot of lift to them. - The Chicken Bacon Ranch sandwich has a very large chicken breast and comes with a side for only $8... pretty great deal. - My girlfriend is a pancake connoisseur and she thought the pancakes were really good but they put too much whip cream on them and they forgot her side of strawberries on two different occasions. Lunch Monday 8/31/2015 Pancakes and sausage links. Food was good. The sausage links had burned pieces of other food from the grill attached. The syrup is kept on the table. I found it a little odd that the syrup carafe lid was broken. Meaning it was wide open and not really covered. Service was ok. Host was in a huge hurry when he seated me. Then the waitress was not very friendly. She seemed in a hurry and not happy to be there. Restaurant was very loud. I could hear the conversations of customers 2 & 3 tables away. Annoying! Food sometimes is cold that has to be sent back, but for the most part the food is good and service is usually good. However, upon the last visit tried to use a coupon that was denied at checkout. This denial has never happened in the past. The "Hungries" breakfast menu is great, but the breakfast menu specials indicates free coffee but this is not the case. Restrooms are cold and deplorable and need a definite upgrade. Completed the customer website form with no response, and really disappointed after being a customer for many many years. Very impressed with this restaurant. Staff was friendly and quick to help on refills. The restaurant is decorated in a vintage feel with old pictures and outdoor activities (canoe,paddles, etc). Didn't bother me but was unique in its own way. They had a big menu. I had the chocolate chip pancakes and a Diet Pepsi. I didn't think three pancakes were going to fill me up but I was completely wrong. Total was only 6.31, which was a pleasant surprise.
