Instead of going for the festive angle of Mex, they go for the decor. * Service: Slower. I remember Jose Tejas always had someone come by your table to refill drinks, check on your order... not here. Ordering was awkward, although at least they got our orders right. We just got water - I would have loved to specify "lemon, no ice", but both waters arrived with lemon and ice. * Food: OK. Edit. I was going to say "smaller", but then I saw that Tejas' portions started downsizing around the time we left town. So maybe it's actually on par here. I really liked the taste of my barbacoa, but the barbacoa taco eater across from me was less impressed. The rice and beans were very m'eh; I think you get more flavor at Jose, but second edit - my other review said you get more salt, so that might again cancel the advantage. You do get a nice side of guac on your house specialty plate, which is rare to find for free (not even listed on the menu), but I paid more than my date for what might have even been less food. (She got three tortillas, I got two...) Finally, the meal started with smoky but rather flavorless salsa, no heat at all, that came with our thin opening chips - the salsa is hotter at Tejas, the chips are thicker, but much saltier. * Intangibles: This one's in a mall. Restaurant wasn't all that crowded, but parking isn't the easiest with all the other shops. Whereas Jose was standalone, but so crowded that parking wasn't the easiest either. Final edit. Vegetarian options were pretty limited, but I have to give credit to the staff - they really tried to work with us and accommodate our needs. I visited this place for the first time on a Saturday after seeing it listed on Resy for my American Express credit. Once we were seated, it took about 20 minutes before anyone came to our table. When someone finally did, he was very apologetic and welcoming. Our server, Luis, was great--he took the time to walk us through the menu and checked on us throughout the meal. Excellent customer service on his part. I ordered the Carne Asada, a marinated 21-day aged outside skirt steak, but unfortunately I wasn't impressed with the flavor. It tasted pretty bland to me, and the side dish wasn't what I expected. I was anticipating jasmine rice, but it tasted more like quinoa. The food here is always a solid local lunch option! However our experience last weekend wasn't as great as it usually is. Our server wasn't around much at all, we never got refills on our chips or salsa, or water/ drinks. It was a Sunday afternoon around 11:30am so an earlier lunch and it wasn't busy in the restaurant at all so that was disappointing. Although I received a response from corporate Guest Services in TX on June 11th offering us back for a complimentary meal, there has been no further communication from them. Seems to me that the problem for their stores may stem from their corporate structure and lack of support for their stores. As of today we are still waiting...,,,,,, Update July 12th 2025: We were invited back by Guest Services Corporate so we agreed to do so. We were met at the front by GM Pedro. He and the Hostess escorted us to choose any seat of our liking. Our Server Mauro was very attentive and friendly, well aware of the menu items. My wife and I agree to order the Combination Platter Special of Spareribs, Chicken and Skirt Steak Fajitas. Wow amazing delicious. The ambiance is fine, upscale Mexican and it looks like a fun place. The staff was friendly and such. Same as in my review from 2.5 years ago - the menu needs a revamp. So many dishes could be made vegetarian but it isn't listed as an option (the quesadilla, the nachos, whatever). The items that do have a V option default to being filled with cheese and onion instead of -- you guessed it - veggies. It's like the person who sets the menu has a mental block. Convenient Mexican restaurant when you are around in bridgewater mall. Family went out for some mall fun in the weekend and got hungry. Uncle Julio was inside the mall and we decided to give a try. No some mann tables on weekends noon time was a bit surprise but we went inside anyway. Lovely Mexican interior decor with Mexican elements for sure. Service was excellent and friendly. We ordered fajitas for two which turned to a lot food!!! Guacamole was just mediocre but probably we ordered house guacamole but not the self made one! Plenty food and taste was good! The first time we tried this place the food was not fresh. We wanted to give it another shot. We went around lunchtime. There were people but not too busy. Tried to order drinks but we waited and waited for ice teas and she told us the bar was busy because my daughter ordered a special ice teas but the bar was literally empty at 3pm on a Sunday. Stopped in recently to try this out. It's connected to the mall and has outside seating which is great for warm weather days. While not packed they were a bit shorthand so we had to wait a few minutes to be seated. Wait staff was very friendly, helpful and the complimentary hot chips and salsa were great. Our waitress was nice, but she messed up my daughter's order (the waitress gave her fajitas and not quesadillas, and she overcharged for seltzers) and there was a slow turnaround to get drinks (sodas came out flat) and our dinner. Uncle Julio's in Bridgewater used to be busy and served delicious meals, but honestly, for the price that we paid, we left really the restaurant very unhappy with our experience. Again, Tex-Mex fare but we didn't realize that based on the atmosphere. We both ordered chicken hard shell tacos. They offer soft or hard. Hard shells are flash fried. Food was fresh and tasty. They give complimentary chips and 2 kinds of salsa: roasted one which was warm and a traditional tomato. We liked them. Chips were warm and crisp. My friend ordered a pineapple lemonade and said it was too tart. That was the only negative. The service was attentive and not rushed. I need to emphasize, this is a solid Tex-Mex chain restaurant. Our visit today was concerning. Uncle Julio's ought to get their act together or they'll face the same fate as Redstone. Our party of two Walked with a reservation. There were THREE people at the front desk chatting it up and totally ignored us and avoided looking our way. When I said hi, a woman with dirty blond straight hair looked at us and abruptly said "just a sec" as if we were being a nuisance to their seemingly petty conversation. What's wrong with this picture? When I told our server to get the manager so I could report it, no manager came by. The servers were slammed and were running around like crazy. The quality of the food is also going downhill. Beans were dry, chips were brittle and mango salsa was scant. When we left the place there were FOUR people at the front desk. Uncle Julio's, you only need one dedicated front of the house staff and more servers. There's an imbalance there that's negatively impacting your overall operations, ambiance, and service. Came here last Friday for dinner with two girlfriends, and what should have been a quick dinner with drinks, turned into a 4 hours affair due to slow service. I normally wouldn't mind because we had nowhere to go, but it wasn't even busy. When we arrived, we sat at the bar and had to wait 15 to be greeted, and another 15 after we had placed drink orders to get our drinks (a soda, and 2 margs). We waited another 15 to get chips and salsa and then it was even more downhill from there. There were 2 bartenders and 2 Barbacks. All seemed nice, but the bartender on our side was all over the place. He kept forgetting to bring plates, utensil, or refills. Placed the order of the couple that sat next to us (10 min after us), well before ours, etc. Maybe it was an off night, but it was just odd because I have been here before and never had these kinds of issues. Most importantly..... a MOUSE scurried across the indoor dinning room floor. This was after we waited an absurd amount of time for drinks from the bar and food. Everything served was overpriced and underwhelming. My friend's "ribs dinner special" came with just three ribs and the manager claimed this was the normal portion for the franchise. For the price, it felt like a joke. Although the staff was very nice and the manager took the rib special off the bill, I will not be going back. I rarely complain to staff about food/service while actively dinning at an establishment however, almost every aspect of this dining experience was egregiously poor. So one Major thing to note is the food is authentically made fresh to order. The service I received was phenomenal the server took the time to explain each dish to my party and have had eaten each dish. As far as saturation or acidity in most foods go or heavy seasoning this is not the case. All ingredients combine together to present your palette with its unique flavors and texture. The ambiance it's some what a stone house atmosphere you're able to see your desert melted down and made into the chocolate piñata. My Sister in law found this place on TikTok because of the Break the Candy thing so on a recent trip by the area we stopped in... Came to Uncle Julio's after receiving a recommendation. 4 of us went for a Thursday afternoon happy hour and it wasn't busy at all. When we arrived the hostess was kind and sat us. It took about 10 mins or so before a waiter actually came over to help us. Parts of my experience that needed improvement was wait time. Knowledge of workers, no one knew what was or wasn't on happy hour. We tried the Julio drink, the frozen swirl drink, and the frozen sangria drink and all were way to sweet and not very good. After all 3 drinks weren't that good I went to order a beer only to find out that they were sold out of a lot of items. Our waiter could've stopped over a couple more times and been more attentive. And lastly, and most importantly their lighting fixtures were dirty and filled with dust that could potentially fall into food/drinks. I did enjoy the 2 quesadillas we ordered (steak and chicken). They were flavorful. I would suggest shredded chicken or dicing it up smaller because there were large chunks that kept fallling out when trying to eat it.
