Do yourself a favor, and don't order the fish tacos. Or the guacamole. Guacamole was watery, with 4-5 eensy bits of tomato in it. No flavor, and lackluster texture. The fish tacos were just ... bad. The flavor was cringe-worthy and overly smoked, I guess to make up for the nasty texture. I took one taco home to warm it up, where I can usually make magic happen. Nope. The meat was translucent and not a creamy white, despite putting it in a pan with butter, then a splash of white wine. It couldn't be redeemed, even at home. Fajitas are good. But Still have not refunded my money. I paid Zach the manager and he said it didn't go through. I checked online and it was pending. Zach the manager said it was not going through and he needed a different card and would cancel the other. I said well I paid 10 min ago and we are still finishing our drink. If I had left you would get paid when it cleared---same as usual. He did not agree and ended double billing me. Did so after specifically stating he had cancelled the first card. I called them the next day. Zach passed phone to the other manager. They continue to have double billed me. The second line manager said they electronically refunded me the next day. That was 10 days ago. The head manager has still not contacted me. I do not expect them to be classy but outright lying about somebody else's money is insolent. We've been to this location a couple times now and the food and service is consistently good. The food also comes out really quickly so you're not having to pass too much time by stuffing yourself full of chips and salsa. If you have kids I recommend getting the chocolate pinata for dessert. It's a lot of sweets but it's so much fun for the kids. read more

We ate here several months ago and I left bragging about how much they had improved. The old uncle Julio's was back. Well today we left left before even ordering. They have changed up everything and not for the better. The chips are now like Tostitos and the salsa is now terrible. Completely new weird menu. Increased prices and now a lot of dishes don't come with rice and beans. You can get a taco plate for 15 bucks but you have to add beans for an up charge. We asked what happened and the manager said they are being more cost effective. Much better places around DFW. Try La Comida in Oak Cliff. Food is excellent. I'm out on Uncle Julio's. read more

Uncle Julio's for us in the area is a go to for a happy hour....we stopped coming after Mike left the bar....then we came back a few times and didn't have the best bar experience UNTIL we met Solara! I don't know what was worse...the BAD service or the big black hair on my shrimp! We were seated on the patio and apparently no one wanted to wait on us. We sat for 20 mins before we ever found someone who would acknowledge us. (No chips, no "hi, how are you") at least 4 servers passed us multiple times and never did anything for us. Finding the hair was the last straw. They were kind enough to remove my shrimp appetizer from the bill, but I left HUNGRY AND VERY DISAPPOINTED! Food was delicious. We shared cheese and bean nachos. They could have stayed in the over a few minutes longer to melt the cheese more, but great flavor. We ordered sour cream to go with the nachos and had to ask twice for it to be brought to the table. Margaritas were excellent but my guest asked for no salt. It came with salt. I ordered the ribs and sausage combo special and my guest ordered cheese enchiladas with queso. The enchiladas came with a different sauce which we asked to be corrected. Our server (America) said it was her fault and apologized. My ribs and sausage did not have sausage. My meal came with potatoes ( delicious) and corn (elotes). The corn was cold. When I asked America if the corn was supposed to be cold her answer was yes. And said corn is always served cold. I've never had it served cold. At that point all I wanted to do was leave. I didn't bother to mention the missing sausage. I think Americas first problem was she has no clue what customer service is and she should write down orders. When I got the check I wanted to check if my meal was entered correctly. It seamed to make America nervous and she quickly snatched the check back to "correct". I've been a restaurant GM for many years. Besides bad service this management team has a lot more to worry about. Went Wednesday evening around 7:30 PM. Restaurant has updated decor with average service. Seated as soon as we arrived hostess brought chips & salsa after seating us. The chips were horrible! No longer the excellent thin tasting chips and they seem like cheap store bought. The restaurant was quite and not many customers. Waiter came and took our drink & appetizer orders about ten minutes later and quickly brought them to the table and took our dinner order. Husband ordered three soft tacos were just ok and I ordered beef fajitas. Meat was tender but lacked flavor from pre-pandemic times. This was our second time in the last year to eat in as we decided to give one more try. Disappointed that we've lost another favorite restaurant. My favorite Mexican restaurant when it comes to the chips and salsa. Their chips are super thin and never stale. I actually like the texture of the salsa being that it's not too think. When I go I stick to me favorites, queso with ground beef and honey spicy bacon wrapped shrimp. The service at the bar is always great and never have had any issues. I'm not too crazy about the new payment process only because I continue to wonder how sanitary it is but can't be much different than when a waiter hand you a check in a plastic cover huh? We went to Uncle Julio's to celebrate my friend's birthday. The waitress hardly came to check on us to see what we needed. When she did come by, people were literally still eating, and she asked to take their plates. The food was ok. I'm not sure what happened after Covid, but a lot of these restaurants serve food that tastes like it was just warmed up real fast. It doesn't taste fresh. Uncle Julio's is not an exception. I asked for sour cream for my food and never received it, and it was not busy by any means. The food was a 5/10. I'm being generous (especially for what is charged). The birthday piñata is so cute. Uncle Julio's is my weak spot. I have grown up going to Uncle Julio's for all celebratory events. Graduations, birthday parties, and sometimes just family dinner. I held my bridal shower in the backroom at this Uncle Julio's and continue to pressure my mom to order from here for holidays. The homemade tortillas are always warm and delicious. The salsa for the table is flavorful and robust. I always order the steak fajitas because why change from an oldie but a goodie. My mom typically orders the enchiladas and doesn't stray other than to take a slice of my sizzling fajitas. I will be honest, this is not the most "authentic" Mexican food, but it's definitely quintessential tex-mex. Last time I was there, they were mostly following covid precautions. We sat outside but the outside area was a bit packed. I also saw people go through the restaurant without a mask, but I think that's less on Uncle Julio's and more on people not following the rules. I also recommend this location over the Dallas location. The Dallas location has awful customer service. The customer service at this location is much better and I have never had a problem. read more

This was my first time coming to Uncle Julio's and it was okay... it wasn't breathtaking. The food was average. I ordered chicken tacos and I wasn't that impressed. Visiting the Dallas area, we were in search of some good Tex-Mex. Our local resident friend turned us in the direction of Uncle Julio's. A huge restaurant with outdoor seating, we were seated along the back in a booth for our party of four. Chips and salsa were soon to arrive - and we dug in. The chips are thin, and they reminded me of Chevy's tortilla chips. The salsa was pretty decent as well. (I think I ate a basket all to myself because I was pretty full by the time I ordered my lunch!) We ordered a round of Micheladas ($4.75/each). I'm not a big fan of beer - but the BF got me drinking this stuff. It reminds me of Bloody Marys and that's probably why I like it so much. (I think he makes the best ones at home though!) I ordered the Soup and Salad ($8.95), which comes with a choice of Tortilla Soup or Soup of the Day and it's served with their house ensalada grande topped with your choice of chicken, beef or portobello mushroom. I went for the Tortilla Soup and the portobello mushrooms. The chicken fajita in the soup was surprisingly moist and pretty tender. My tortilla chips were soggy by the time I got to it, so maybe if they were floating on the top when it arrived, it would be a bit better. The chicken broth was tasty, not exactly 'zesty' as they say on the menu, but decent. Some chopped avocados would do wonders on it though! ($5.50/bowl) My salad was not quite 'grande,' perhaps the absence of the tomatoes really affected its appearance? (They were not using fresh tomatoes as of late because of the salmonella scare.) The mushrooms added a nice taste to the salad though and made up for it for the most part. The BF got the Sonora Platter ($7.95) and it came with rice, frijoles a la charra and fresh flour tortillas. You get one of each - enchilada (chicken, beef or cheese and onion), crispy taco (chicken or beef), and one tamale (pork or chicken). He was grubbing on the whole dish and I guess he was pleased with it, or really hungry at least. Our friend ordered the Guadalajara ($19.50), "signature grilled jumbo shrimp brochette; stuffed with Monterey Jack cheese, jalapenos wrapped in bacon and your choice of chicken, beef or combination fajitas." First off, anything wrapped in bacon is going to be good - so that was a winner already. The three shrimps looked plump and juicy and the plate ended up being too much for our hearty eater. Our other friend ordered the Plato Deluxe ($9.50), "hand rolled beef or chicken taco al carbon with our famous tortilla soup or soup of the day." It was probably the saddest looking meal ever, and our friend looked pretty sad when he got it too. It literally was a flour tortilla with beef in it and nothing else. Oh yeah, the side of soup too. It just looked blah. Service was pretty good. Our waiter saw us chowing on the chips and salsa, so he was sure to bring lots more without us hounding him too. The food came pretty quickly as well. My boss took me out to lunch here. Watch out, the steps outside have some ruts so if you're not paying attention, you could trip. Anyway, we walk into the place, and the first thing I notice are the bold earthtones on the walls, decent modern decor, and the place is busy. We get a table in the middle and it's convivial and loud with mainly working office people sloshing some beer and margaritas to forget their job issues for the hour. Our waitperson brings us some menu's. We order table made guacamole - a nice show with yummy results. There is a great smallish lunch menu and a huge dinnfer menu. Out waitperson was decent explaining the menu and getting drinks, but didn't bring sugar for the boss's iced tea and no plates for the guacamole. The chips were thin and warm, and the chipotle salsa was great. He comes back about 5 minutes later and takes our order. I order the combo special with two items at $9 and the boss orders the chicken fajitas about $12 I think. Didn't taste his food, but I enjoyed my beef tacos and chicken tamales. I like the very tomatoey Mexican rice but didn't tough the beans as we were in a closed office meeting all day! Bombshell averted, ha.... The food was better than many of the places I'd been to in So. CAL overall. Except for the hiccup with the waitperson, it was a fun time. The boss still left him at 20 per cent tip. if I lived in the area, I'd definitely return for dinner and check out their menu, have some beer, and burp my way out of here. read more

Averaging 2 visits per month in this time frame. margaritas are now made from cheap ingredients, tasted like the smell of lemon pledge cleaner. Food is barely average. With new owners think they r from California, cheap ingredients introduced across the board and confirmation of overall poor quality by going to multiple locations in the DFW area. So sad to see another landmark restaurant bite the dust! Darn it! This restaurant's decline was subtle at first, then BAM! It's awful!! Over the last couple of years we made excuses for the lack of the appearance of cleanliness, then the staff, and now the quality of the food. This was a lot to process. We had a nice waiter and I did not want to involve her. So, I found the manager at the host/hostess station laughing and visiting with the staff. He wasn't busy. As I outlined for him my disappointment after being a regular for many years, I discussed the cold food, the messy/dirty patio floors and tables etc. You would think he would have been concerned. Instead, he only made excuses blaming the new kitchen methods and proceeded to tell me how hard he works. Really? You would think he would have fixed the problems causing the whole slew of bad recent reviews and then my experience would have been positive. A good manager hears criticism and uses it as an opportunity to get better. I could tell that this guy didn't really know the right thing to do. Here it is... He should have followed me to my table, picked up my plate of cold food and taken my choice of a replacement order. A basic manager responsibility, right? I guess not... He had asked what I was eating, but failed to re-order my food. Then he arrived at my table 10 to 15 minutes later and was clueless. My cold food plate was still sitting there and he said he thought the waiter had taken care of me. He said that he thought I wasn't going to eat, but then thought the waiter was already taking care of a new order?? Which one was it?? Geez, he takes no blame for anything. Obviously there is a bigger failure than just this one manager. Also, this manager had walked the patio when we arrived, but did not bother to have tables organized or cleaned. It was disorganized and dirty looking - which should have been our first clue to leave. During our chat, I told him the patio was dirty and he said he did not know. I reminded him that he had walked the patio earlier when we arrived and that he should have noticed and had it cleaned. Well, he did not like that at all and told me that I should not be telling him how to manage his restaurant. Lol, he should've appreciated the feedback. It was a learning opportunity for his next job since HIS restaurant location won't be open that much longer. Note: He did comp our meals and I got warm food but the flavors were off. No win situation for any of us. Who owns this location? Wake up...There is a water leak onto the front steps under the eaves. The building wall signage is not working. The 'U' in Uncle in the large sign is burned out as well. Maybe these are good warnings "signs" to keep people from eating there. Lol And finally, your review responses appear canned and shallow. I was really excited to come here but since COVID they have really bummed me out. They changed their margaritas and with buying 4 last night I didn't even taste any alcohol, even though they are so tasty! The food was really bad :( I felt like I was at Rosas or some lower end Mexican food... I ordered fajitas and the combo with enchiladas for my hubby. We both did not enjoy our food it was pretty bland and chewy meat. I was bummed that I left paying over 120$ for two people and left starving and wanted a margarita lol.... which I came there for! The honey chipotle salmon is to die for!!! The meal consisted of a rare mesquite grilled filet with honey chipotle glaze and a side of corn & black bean cilantro rice with a pineapple pico de gallo. Music was really loud. Service: was very slow, saw our server maybe 3x and she was very rare, hard to be found when needed. But she was very nice, so it may be that she was weeded? Going to give her benefit of the doubt, but it did annoy me that I waited far too long for water. Food: we got enchilada plates and the spicy tuna tacos. Enchiladas were really good! I enjoyed them. (Beef and chicken) although one plate came out cold. The tuna was just. Not. Good. It was raw sure, but it was also... warm? Not sure it's supposed to be that? Not sure but for some reason I'd rather have my raw fish cold? Idk it was just an odd flavor and texture and overall just not good. Verdict: we came for the chocolate piñata and that delivered. I had a friend visiting and it was a nice day, so we sat on the patio. We ordered the guacamole and some queso for an appetizer. We immediately sent to guacamole back because it had no flavor. It was very bland and had big chunks of hard avocado in it! I ate the queso, but it was not thin and creamy like it use to be! Service was ok, but not great! My wife and I arrived at noon and waited for somebody for 10 minutes to come only to tell us there will be 10-15 minutes wait. However, there were more than 5 empty small tables available. I pointed to those tables and was told "Yeah but we're understaffed". No apologies whatsoever. We seated ourselves at one of the pub tables by the bar but nobody came to even hand us the menu. Ordered borracho beans instead of black beans with entree. Beans tasted like canned beans. Yuk! So bad compared to last time we went to restaurant. Server brought appetizer with no appetizer plates.
