Fast friendly service. David was our waiter, he was very knowledgeable about the menu and very helpful. We were a little disappointed on the Guadalajara fajitas. I wanted to love them. The bacon was burnt on the shrimp, the shrimp had wonderful flavor other than the bacon (I love bacon). The chicken was cooked to perfection with excellent flavor. The beef, we were very disappointed by, the marinate is not good in my opinion and the meat was very stringy. The dessert piñata was wonderful. We've been coming to this location for years and have always had a great experience--until today. The wait staff was perfectly fine, but the portion of our usual Guadalajara Fajitas was surprisingly small. The dish only included two thin strips of chicken and three thin strips of steak. Thankfully, we ordered the extra bacon-wrapped shrimp, which helped make the meal feel a little more complete. This entrée is priced and advertised as serving two people, but today it barely felt like enough for one. If portions are being reduced, it would be appreciated if there were some kind of notice or adjustment to expectations. We've always enjoyed dining here, so this was definitely disappointing. read more

There were 14 of us. First off I reserved the private room,that they did not save. Second they provided 1 young waitress for the 14. Thirdly drinks were extremely slow. And finally the food was not up to their parr, and because there was only 1 waitress some of us ended up with cold food. We will come back. Lousy experience. read more

First time having Uncle Julio's and was NOT DISAPPOINTED!! First of all the establishment was very clean very neat, bright and relaxing atmosphere inside and out. If we had stayed instead of to go I know it would have been a great experience as well. But we ordered at the bar, the host was very quick and the bartender as well! My absolute favorite was the BEANS! Oh my I was not expecting them to be that good with bits of bacon. To be fair we just ordered the fajitas for two to quickly take home . Had a pretty pathetic experience today. Came in at 2:45. I stood for a while waiting on a host to come seat me. After a few minutes a server saw me waiting and came to help. I asked if the tables in the bar area were open and he said yes then brought me a menu. After waiting for 10 minutes the bartender shouted at me from across the room that the section wasn't open because there was no server. I said oh they sat me here. And he said I don't have anyone. We are DONE with coming here. We were long-time patrons of Uncle Julio's back in the day (10-15 years ago) when it was amazing!! Then the decor and vibe of the restaurant screamed "festive", "colorful", "authentic", "fun", and the food was absolutely fabulous!!! We used to bring out-of-town friends/family here, and they loved it (especially the fajitas). I don't know exactly when it all changed, but the place disappoints now - so devoid of any character! Sterile. The taste of some of the dishes leaves a lot to be desired, and quantities are smaller. We used to love the fajitas (great marinade, sizzling, and flavorful), but now they are skimpy and lacking flavor. We came one last time yesterday, and I tried the tortilla soup for the first time - never again! I honestly can say that it was like the Campbell Soup of Tortilla Soups. The only thing that this place still has going for it is the salsa & chips, and even those are not the same as before. The salsa used to have a mildly-hot "kick", and the chips were so thin and crispy, which set Uncle Julio's high above the rest of them... not now. Oh! and what happened to flan??? What has happened to this place? This use to be one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. We had lunch there today. The whole wait staff has turned over. The queso, a staple of Tex Mex, did not taste fresh made. Some recipes have changed. Our food came out room temperature vs hot. When I made the server aware of the temperature issue, his response was "they must have not heated it to the right temperature" which immediately gave me a vision of a microwave. There were very few customers there today so it certainly wasn't that the kitchen was slammed. The server was very accommodating and offered to adjust the ticket but that was not what I was looking for and declined his offer. If the new owners of Uncle Julio's read this review - please revisit and reassess the changes you are making that are impacting the quality of the food you are serving. read more

I always like the food here and the service at most Uncle Julio's is great. Horrific at this place. The servers available at lunch are the same crew every time and some are incredibly slow. During quick business lunch hours, one walked off with our credit cards for 20 minutes, well past the hour line at 1 o'clock. I had to ask a host to have the server return. The host was extremely rude and never moved an inch. The server eventually returned - multiple checks incorrect, changed, and charged well over what they should have been. Scratch this one off the top 10 list. What a fall from grace. Having been a loyal customer since they first opened at Greenville Ave and Meadow Ln my perspective is noteworthy. Today's fajitas were average at best. Meat was tough and the beans salty. Gone are the days of Warm to touch salsa and charro beans in a bowl. No pico de gallo- Really? The tortillas were brittle in spots . The table was preset with utensils and plastic glasses. How long they were sitting exposed to passersby I wonder. The server dropped off a bottle filled with tap water ( I suspect) for self pouring. Near room temperature too. Wow! The language barrier of the server stilted communication. The effort was there but the problem marred the experience. You might prefer Pappacitos or Abuelos. Uncle Julio's is trading on the legendary past to provide inferior food today. Their appetizers are yummy specially habanero honey bacon shrimp their house salsas are really good served with chips as a complimentary to your meal. We ordered honey chipotle salmon and combination enchiladas both were great and the presentation was great too. Visited Uncle Julios last evening for a birthday dinner. HLOV I knew it would be bad when my order was being taken and the waiter coughed in my face without an excuse me, apology nothing. Uncle Julio's was once my favorite go to restaurant; however, the quality of the food has diminished extremely disappointing. At least the margarita was good. We have come to Uncle Julio's on Lemmon Ave since the 80's. And, Iit has been a tradition to celebrate Mother's Day here. Food is still good. The parking for this Mother's Day was ridiculous. The restaurant was only half full, plenty of parking, but valet service has become a totally ridulous option, which blocked off the exit. Their valet staff was rude in the lot about trying to go through "their area" to exit. Hmmmm....I thought the customers contributed to making a restaurant successful. We will need to reevaluate any future visits. I would have considered 4 or 5 stars, but not now. read more

3/5. Food could have been better, the undercooked bell peppers on my Jalisco platter were too crunchy (almost raw), I would recommend that the peppers/onions are grilled a little longer. Rice and beans were supposed to be part of our entree, we however did not get them as the meals came out and had to ask for them which created some confusion with the server. Ambiance was cute and looks like a little Mexican home (know from experience being from Mexico myself) And the oddest most weird thing was that the manager stopped to greet every other table except for my table, which was strange. Not sure why but it does not make me want to come back, not "Karening" this at all, but my bill was $100+ dollars for some fajitas that I can get for the same or better quality elsewhere and probably cheaper. Server wasn't attentive. I had to get another server multiple times to grab him. Granted, he got better towards the end of the service especially when we had a long strand of hair in our food. He got the manager and took pictures of the food as well. Manager though was kinda wack. It's been 8 months since my last visit to Uncle Julio's. The previous visit wasn't all that great, so I had taken UJ's out of my rotation of Tex-Mex restaurants, then; suddenly I got the urge to try it again. This location is only a 3 minute drive, so I figured a sudden enchilada craving would need to be remedied quick. I placed an online order to Uncle Julio's and I was totally impressed! My to-go order was ready a few minutes before the estimated arrival time. Luckily, the timing was just right and they were able to bring it out to me curbside. From there, I drove home to find that my order was well packed. No spillage and the food was still hot and looked very appetizing. I ordered a cheese enchilada plate. My go-to. It was PERFECT! Not too salty and the flavors were spot-on. When UJ's is done right- it's so delish! Very fresh tasting. Overall, I was really happy with every aspect of my to-go meal. This is a favorite restaurant however we were advised the menu was updated "Thursday" and there were only two things that were "familiar" to us. The QUESO HAS CHANGED! That was one of the best queso's around, and now there's a whole lot of extra crap added. Not everyone wants jalapeños, chipotle something, poblano and other peppers in the dip - we couldn't even get it "without spices." Your "signature" queso is being tested however you've never had this new queso in my history of coming- which is a long time, so I wouldn't call it "signature." Well, my family won't be back and my mother was thoroughly disappointed and almost wanted to walk out. I convinced her to split fajitas and even they were bland with tough steak. Menu said onion and peppers and all we got were onions. We won't be returning, not only because prices went up, but everything on the menu changed and changed ingredients that are not recognizable. You can't even get a fajita soft taco plate anymore - just basic tacos with nothing fancy. You've gone the wrong way and hopefully others will agree. We had a family gathering at the location...around 20 people total. We were seated fairly quickly and our orders were placed in a timely manner which was fine. We encountered issues when it came to our food order delivery. Some of had incorrect orders, some had delayed delivery of their food, and others had cold food. There were also issues with condiment requests and some also had delays in drink refill requests. Appetite was killed before ever I received the meal. Awful curbside pickup experience. I called in for a takeout dinner order and it was evident the person I spoke to wasn't knowledgeable about the takeout menu and I got the impression they prefer you to just order online, ok fine. Placed order on website. When I got there I followed the directions for carry out (text the number and give your stall number) I sat there for 45 minutes AFTER my estimated pickup time, while other drive up customers came and left with their food. I want to stress that they were not busy , (it was a mellow weeknight). Finally after I reached a boiling point of being clearly skipped over, I asked the carry out dude that kept walking by my car and avoiding eye contact if mine would be ready soon. He asked my name and asked if I texted that I'd arrived (yes!) Then he comes out with my food and it was lukewarm and hardened. How long would I have been sitting there if I didn't get his attention?! To me, if there's an order sitting idle up in the takeout area for over 40 minutes, you take the initiative to investigate and follow up. It was almost $60 worth of dinner! To me, if you walk back and forth past a car sitting in your curbside parking spot, you greet the person and see why they've been sitting there for so long. I felt ignored and very let down. One star because the carry out kid with the man bun was a sweetie and obviously flustered. I've been there! All to find that the food is OVERPRICED mediocre Tex Mex. The value and quality of the entrees really fall short. Cold, small portion of steak in the fillet mignon, half cup of rice, half cup of beans, scrawny ramekin of queso sauce that I paid like $6 for? We ordered for pickup and were very happy with our choices. I ordered 3 enchiladas (2 beef, 1 cheese) my wife ordered the taco plate and my daughter ordered the veggie quesadillas and 8 margaritas. The margaritas were the best and for $5 a piece, what a steal. My wife had an issue with the tacos as the steam from the container made them a bit of a mess and were no longer hard shell and ended up being mushy. The service was great and ready to go when we showed up for pickup. The special for the margaritas end on 9/7 so it's time to stock up. read more
