I stopped by The Taco Joint in Addison and ordered two breakfast tacos: Sausage, Egg, Potato & Cheese and Spicy Fried Chicken & Egg spicy fried chicken, scrambled eggs, and cheese. Let me start with this: the place is clean, the vibe is casual, and the server was nice. No complaints there. It's an easy, grab-a-taco-and-go kind of spot. Now... the food. The sausage, egg, potato & cheese taco was well made. Structurally sound. Good tortilla. Nothing falling apart. But flavor-wise? It just didn't hit. The eggs weren't seasoned, and for me, eggs without seasoning are just... there. If I'm eating breakfast tacos, I need them to wake me up a little. This one stayed asleep. The Spicy Fried Chicken & Egg taco was the better of the two. The chicken brought the flavor the eggs didn't. It had some personality. If I had to order again, that's the direction I'd go. Would I go back? I'm on the fence. There are a lot of other things on the menu, and if I'm in the area again--or if there's another location nearby--I might give it another shot. Sometimes you just order the wrong thing the first time. It happens. Bottom line: It's clean. Service is solid. Tacos are well made. But for me? Flavor is king, and the eggs missed the mark. Meal ordered: Thursday Special "Avocado Queso Porkiladas" for $12.98 after tax. This location automatically asks for tips. The meal came out about 2 minutes after being ordered, which indicates that it is not fresh - despite having no one else in the restaurant. Sure enough, the food tastes as if it was not fresh. First impression was the dry rice and the distinct lack of avocados. The single slice was sad and lonely. The rice was extremely dry, and about half of it was crunchy, as if left on a hot surface much too long. The refried beans were creamy in texture, but they did not have much flavor besides "bean". The queso had a consistency of gravy rather than queso. The pork inside was juicy (thank goodness), but it didn't have any flavor of itself. It depended entirely on the spice of the toppings and the pepper inside to give any flavor at all. Regarding everything else: they were out of forks, the staff was friendly but when bringing the food they didn't bring anything else (it was ordered to go), and the ambience is tasteful. However, the food quality is weighed much more heavily than the rest of these factors. Overall, it was a big disappointment. I had been eye this place for a good minute and I finally stepped in to grab dinner to go. I ordered the following: Picoso Burrito Combo$11.99 Choice of fajita chicken or beef, with onions, peppers, and topped with a spicy queso. Comes with a side of rice, beans and a drink. - They forgot to add the beans but the meal was big enough to feed to so I am not complaining. Everything was so good especially the spicy queso. I loved the salsa bar and the drink selection. This location is bigger than one would think and would make a great after work hangout with happy hour specials included! Dallas is full of taco joints, but only one Taco Joint. This place is pretty legit, offering a great selection of the usual fare of tacos, burritos and more. When in the mood for fast Tex Mex, and not in the mood to be a food snob, this is your place. Been here a couple of times and the crispy tacos were okay but nothing to rave about. This time I had their enchiladas and they hit the spot when it needed a smacking. I was in the mood for some red cheese enchiladas, but wasn't sure if they had a traditional red sauce, so when I asked about the ranchero sauce, staff confirmed that it was more tomato-based....not what I was looking for. He offered to let me try three sauces and believe it or not, I went with the chile con carne. Now, chile con carne is something completely different when you come from El Paso. Dallas' chili con carne is at best, just chili, and not the good kind either. Well, even though Taco Joint's chile con carne is not the traditional version, it's closer to what I know because it is more red pepper-based and not so much canned chili like all the other Tex Mex restaurants in DFW. This place was love at first bite! One of my neighbors told me about this place that recently opened up in our neighborhood. You told me the food was really good and I needed to check it out. Knowing that he has very discriminating taste I could not wait to try it myself. He was right the food was fantastic! Adding flavor to the great food is the cool Ambience of the place. It kind of has a music theme. Great stereo system that plays the music at a level that you can hear all the notes but also hear the conversation at the table. Hidden gem! Such a great atmophere - sorta retro. Very well priced, it is nice to not worry about getting ripped off at a place that is counter serve. Plenty of room, they even have a side room for a quieter meeting type experience - so bring your friends. But my favorite part - is what I would consider to be the secret menu. If they can build it - they will. So skip the menu and ask for what you want. They pride themselves on excellent suggestoins an eye to giving you what you want. My favorite is to let them know I'm on a carnivoire diet and have them recommend things that go well together from their menu. This is straight up simple tex-mex. I haven't been to the other locations, but this location is nice! Cute decor, clean restaurant, fast service, and friendly employees. It just opened two weeks ago! I tried the Tuesday special, chicken flautas, which came with rice, beans, and a fountain drink. I also got an order of chips and queso which was recommended to me by the kind employee behind the counter. They have a complimentary salsa bar with tomatillo salsa, mild red salsa, and jalapeño ranch. The meal came out to roughly $15 and probably is enough food for two whole meals!! The chicken flautas were made with juicy shredded chicken and crisped perfectly. They were crunchy without being overcooked and piping hot when I received them. They were topped with lettuce, tomato, and an amazing spicy avocado ranch. As if that alone wasn't delicious enough, the queso was thick and flavorful and a perfect pairing to the light and crunchy tortilla chips. They really killed it with the chips and queso! It was so good and my favorite part of the meal. The close runner up was the jalapeño ranch dip. Holy cow was it good! Honestly the whole meal was delicious and I will soon be back for more! It was our first time there and we ordered the street tacos and since I like spicy they grilled a Serrano pepper for me and I didn't even ask for it. 2 Portions were very generous ( I ordered 3 street tacos ) and If they weren't so good I wouldn't have finished them. 3 The quality of the corn tortillas was perfect for tacos. If you make and eat a lot of tacos you know that not every tortilla is is good for tacos as these were perfect not too thick and of course the tacos are so full that 1 taco requires 2 tortillas which are heated and do not tear. I've been to a few Taco Joints around Dallas and they never disappoint. The Lakewood location has a big lively bar and this location has a comfortable dining area with old 70's and 80's records on the walls. The tacos are always good and made fresh the way you want them (I'm super picky so enough said). The place is always clean, well stocked on napkins, sodas, plastic ware and the manager always talks us into chips and salsa. I hit this place about twice a month. You should too! read more
