Average Tex-Mex food with higher prices than usual. Pretty big place with plenty of tables and chairs. They have fresh made guacamole cart that will be made in front of you. Decent size drink menu. I ordered the ahi tuna taco, I asked for the slaw, and salsa on the side. I am not a fan of slaw but the mango salsa was great! More one the sweeter side. The taco overall was okay. I'm bummed to write this updated review. My former review was 5 stars and this sadly drops it to a 2. My wife planned a birthday dinner here for me, with my family and her last night. We had a reservation to ensure we had a table. I believe there is a chance our server was new and had no previous serving experience, which could reason the poor service. (1). It took over 15min for our drinks to be ordered. About 10min later, they were brought and placed on a table right next to us. After about 10min of waiting, I got up and distributed the drinks to our table. Not sure why she left them there for so long. Of course, anything other than the waters were watered down by the melting ice. (2). The next issue was that our server did not offer offer refills of salsa or drinks through the entire 2 hour meal. She did top off the waters, which is great, but when we asked for more salsa, she only brought one side of it to our table of 7. And this aspect doesn't matter at all, but she asked us if lemon was okay for all the waters, but no lemons came with them. But one of my family members specifically asked for lemon and it took two more requests to finally get them. (3). The food that was correct was excellent as always. However, my dad's enchiladas had long black hairs in them. My sister's dish was completely wrong. They were both sent back and my dad asked them not to bring him a replacement. My dish was correct, but the server who brought it didn't know was it was called, so while distributing the dishes, we were asked who ordered the Juanita Platter. I stated I ordered the Matardor platter, but they said this wasn't that dish. It was. (4). We weren't charged for the returned food with hair, because we didn't want a replacement. We tipped our server at 20%, because as a former server, we all know the stress of the job. Normally on birthday celebrations they'll give you a small desert or even ask you if you want deserts. Our check was brought without being asked if we wanted any dessert (we would have ordered desert). (5). It really takes away from the family dining experience when two people in the seven person party don't eat because the food was wrong. By the time everyone is done, the correct dishes are finally brought out. It was a buzzkill. This of course isn't the server's fault, it's just the reality of the situation. Overall, I was extremely disappointed and not sure if I'll return to this location. I've been a regular Uncle Julio's customer for over 10 years and uncle Julios is my favorite Tex-Mex food. However, this location is new for me because we just moved to this area. This is not a bitter review at all, because I love the food and my dish last night was great. Dirty silverware, cups, water canteen to start with. We ordered the "margarita of the month" -- tasted like cleaning supplies. The queso tasted like they had just microwaved it to heat back up. NO AC, some of the employees we spoke with stated it would be months before it was fixed. Employees are sweating and beet red. There are two portable ac units in the front in view trying to keep it cool... but come on it's 100° on a good day here. Our server was truly amazing, these problems aren't his issue. I had sworn off another Uncle Julio's based on a previous experience, but figured I would give them another try after they opened the Presidio location near me. Unfortunately, other than being a beautiful building on the inside, the food will keep me away. We ordered our food to go since we were giving UJ another chance. Steak fajitas for one, at a cost of $19 before taxes and gratuity. The result was 5 small strips of skirt steak that had not had the fat trimmed from them, three flour tortillas, and plenty of onion and bell pepper. Today was the first and last time I'll be visiting to Uncle Julio's for happy hour. I showed up with a group of friends and we were very clear that we were only interested in the happy hour drinks and $5 appetizers. Our waitress gave us a few options and made a few suggestions and we all agreed on pineapple margaritas. These were the most disappointing margaritas I've ever had. They tasted pretty good, however they were about 80% ice, 20% drink. On top of that, we found out that they weren't even happy hour margaritas. Once we got our receipts we noticed we were charged the full price of $10.99 for margaritas that were suggested but not apart of the happy hour deal (which the manager adjusted after we complained). He stated there was a miscommunication. "We're only interested in the happy hour drink options" that's pretty clear, right? They also advertise 4-$5 appetizers which are completely misleading. Only 2 of the appetizers are actually $5, the other 2 are $8. HOW CAN YOU ADVERTISE $5 CHICKEN QUESADILLAS WITH A $3 ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR CHICKEN?!! That's ridiculous. They also advertise $5 loaded nachos but there's an additional $3 charge for meat. Seriously?!! Instead, I suggest you guys head over to Chuy's (on the other side of 35) for really good happy hour deals. The happy hour drinks are soooo good and affordable, not watered down or full of ice. They even let you sample a couple of drinks before buying. Also, Chuys have a FREE NACHO BAR complete with queso, refried beans, beef and all the fixings for the entire duration of happy hour. Our waiter was nice but clearly had too many tables to take care of... good margaritas (but pricey) and chips and salsa, but the regular guacamole and queso were not great. We went on cinco de mayo, but it was like 9:30PM. It took probably 25 minutes to get our meals, and the kitchen was messing up our orders, they didn't bring me my soup (which the waiter took off my check), they gave me 2 cheese and onion enchiladas instead of only 1 of that and 1 chicken enchilada and they forgot my beans. The fajita meat for my husband's meal was very good, but for $18, you should get more than 3 strips of beef and 3 strips of chicken. The waiter offered us free dessert, but it was something neither of us would eat and the kitchen said it was too late to make sopapillas (this was about 10:30). The very very worst service we have ever had. No chip refills no salsa refills. Drinks were slow and my virgin drink was horrible. No one smiled. Even the manager was not friendly. First visit to Uncle Julio's couldn't have been any better. It was so good that we went back a second time the same week. I don't know why this location has 3 stars. Both of our visits were perfect. The servers both went out of their way to level our table from wobbling, refilled our chips, salsa and drinks without missing a beat. My beef fajitas were so tender and perfectly cooked medium-rare and the rest of the table commented that their dishes were really good too. In fact, I'm going to order them for pickup today just because of their fajitas alone. Mistakes happen but I know the food and the two servers we had are better than a 3 star review. This was the absolute worst place to go for Mexican food. How they can call anything they serve "authentic Mexican food " is beyond me. The server brought my plate COLD!! My coffee was also cold. The cold rice tasted like left overs; the enchiladas had their yellow "queso" on them and not "authentic" flavor choices like red, green, or the traditional chili meat sauce. So super disappointed to expect good HOT (temperature wise) food at a reasonable price, only to be served cold, flavorless, pricey food. 14.99 plus tax for the two enchiladas. So gross. The last couple of time we've gone to eat here the service has been terrible. The tables in the restaurant are dirty but it's not busy. we went for my birthday and I had to ask twice for the waiter to bring my margarita and none of my children got refills on their drinks until they were done with their meal. the drawn butter did not come with the fajita plate that my husband ordered and we sat there for 10 minutes waiting on our tortillas for our fajitas. Food stuck on every single one of our forks and knifes. Of all times, this is when the utensils should be the cleanest right now during this pandemic. We asked for new ones and they pretty much came back the same. So ridiculous and appalling. Health dept might need to look into this place bc it seems there's other people on here who have experienced the problems here with sanitation. The food was so awful. It's been a few years since I've been to Uncle Julios and I will not let that happen again. The new one opened up a few months ago just down the road but we wanted to wait for the crowds to die down. So we tried a Saturday night around 9. Still had a 30 minute wait that really turned into about 20. The place was still busy later in the evening. We sat down and within a minute had someone getting our drink order and dropping of chips and salsa. Those chips were warm and obviously home made. Then you try be salsa and it all comes together very nicely. Great combination. We decided to split the steak/chicken fajitas for two. Didn't take long to get our order. Looked amazing and tasted even better. The tortillas are made by three older Hispanic women right by our table. Some of the best tortillas too! The steak and the chicken was really tender and great tasting. Our waiter was right on his game and even the manager stopped and checked on us. This place rocks for a chain restaurant. Waitress returned and said since that is two drinks and the price would be $20,,,usually 10-12$ in other places, she declined. We ordered the fresh made guacamole and it was really good. The menus has been shortened considerably, we really wanted nachos, " so sorry not available". They sat us at a table with a paper that said " sanitized" but while we waited we watched the uninspired busboy clear a table from 6 patrons by wiping it down most food went on the floor and some was left on the table. Nothing was sanitized ; no spray or even a tub to dip the rag in. Yet a " sanitized " label went back on the table. The enchiladas did arrive, average at best but by then we had lost our appetite somewhat. Expected a wait and we were told 5-10 minutes, it was closer to 20 minutes...no big deal. Service was a bit slow, but I'll cut some slack since it's a new spot and it was the first weekend. Food (chicken fajitas) were good and the portion was adequate. Tableside guacamole was good, but I could tell the guy making it was relatively new at this duty...but nothing bad. My only gripe is the hostess. She was telling everyone 5-10 minutes, she was still saying this to people who were walking in as we were leaving - and there were many more people waiting when we were leaving. Food is usually good, although it seems as if they don't hire enough wait staff, service is almost always crappy, last time we went was unacceptable it was like our waiter went on break fir 30 minutes lol! I almost never got a drink, we were getting our own salsa. Food is usually good but we waited so long to get our food we were ready to leave. And what is up with the drinking glasses?! We took a video of how dirty they were, I used my napkin to clean a spot at the top, it was no longer cloudy, you could see through it after I cleaned a spot, one glass even had food or something baked onto the top of it. We have experienced understaffed setting and bar/patio setting, we have been seated at dirty tables, and we have dealt with hostesses that have attitude and are just rude. I am a huge uncle Julio's fan. Every time I looked at reviews for this location, I thought people must be crazy. The food is good. It has been good every time I've been here. Tonight, I got the full dose of why. I got here at 8:30, and was encouraged to sit in the bar area. Three employees working in there, and three tables of people dining. Took a little long to get visited and order a drink. Got that taken care of, then good, then I didn't see anyone to check on me until food was delivered. At that time, I asked for drink to be refilled, maybe some more salsa. She said ok. A few minutes later, another person asked if I needed anything. Just salsa and drink. Then after a while I asked a third person who finally brought it. That was the last refill I got until after they had run my card to pay. I sat for 10 min after finishing my meal waiting for the waitress to bring a check. Never happened. Chased one down, paid, and got out. This location is not a good representation of this brand. Decided to try out Uncle Julio's since this location just opened up close to our home. This place is amazing! We made a reservation and are glad we did! We went in on a Sunday evening and it was packed since they just opened up a few days ago. We were seated within 10 minutes of arriving. Every single staff member was great! Hostess, waitress, table-side guac guy, busser, everyone was super friendly and helpful! The main take away is that all the food is so so so fresh! The salsa is delicious! The best in town. The table-side guac was the best I have ever had. We had steak tacos, cheese and onion enchiladas, and chicken flautas. All so yummy! We even did the chocolate piñata which was as fun as it was delicious! A little pricier than the average Mexican restaurant but worth every penny! We can't wait to go back! This is definitely our new go to Mexican place. read more

We had a large party and the service was great the entire time. The drinks and salsa were on par with what was spoken prior to me going! "The Drinks and salsa are bomb," they all said. Boy was it ever evident with the first bite and the first sip of that Mango Passion Lemonade that I added two shots of Tito's Vodka to. For the fajitas I ordered the "Jalisco," which gives you grilled steak, chicken and shrimp. All items were grilled to perfection and so so juicy! Once paired with the corn tortillas and Mexican butter it was a heavenly experience for my tastebuds. I've been to Uncle Julio's 3 times now. The positive: The atmosphere is really nice, fun, and inviting, and the chips and salsa and food are really good. The negative: The food and drinks are WAY overpriced. I've gone here with a few friends for girls' night a couple of times, and we agreed we wouldn't go back. By the time you order a meal and a drink, the bill is already a lot more expensive than many other good restaurants. So forget about ordering another drink or dessert! Although the food is really good, and there are a couple of food options that aren't crazy high, all the drinks are expensive. We visited Uncle Julio's at this location on 08/03/19, between 2:00-3:00 PM. There were plenty of open booths, however the hostess chose to sit us at a six person table (there were only two of us), in the front, as soon as you walk into the dining room. I asked her if we could have a booth, and let her know we prefer not to sit in the hub-bub. She turned to me and said, "most people just accept the table we give them". WHAT?!
