My girlfriend (now fiancee) and I have always loved Uncle Julio's for a delicious meal with good service and a pleasant atmosphere. I took her here for our anniversary of dating and shared the chocolate lovers' pinata, so it's had a special significance for us ever since. Because of this, when it came time to pop the question, I thought it would be a fun surprise to have the ring hidden in a chocolate pinata. I came in a few days before the proposal to make arrangements, and the management was SO helpful and accommodating. I was immediately impressed. Even though the proposal was going to be on a typically-busy Friday night, they allowed me to reserve a table for me and my girlfriend, as well as another one for a friend who was waiting to take candid photos. The night of the engagement, the management and staff were as helpful as could be. Even though they were very busy, they made it a priority to ensure our special evening went smoothly. Their professionalism and excellent service blew me away! Our server Krystal was great, and graciously helped me coordinate the special pinata so that my fiancee-to-be was completely surprised. I had not been to Uncle Julio's but one time before. (I am not sure why it has taken me so long to come back.) We saw the advertisement on the television of the 321 Margarita and thought we need to try this so off we went. The waitress was friendly and helpful, we asked about several dishes and she explained them all. We decided on the cheese dip, chips, and guacamole for appetizers. It was delicious! I had the bacon wrapped shrimp, my husband had fajitas and others with us had the BBQ. (I know BBQ at a Mexican food restaurant?) Everything was delicious! We all had the 321 margarita and it was just like on TV only better. They came and made the drinks at our table. They were a little expensive but worth every $. And since no meal is complete without dessert, we shared the chocolate and fruit Pinata. I got to break open the Pinata! It was fantastic! I should have ate desert first so I could eat up every bit of it. (This would be fun for a birthday what a great idea! No one has anything like it around.) New(ish) owners! New look! New sign! New sanitized, hipster-friendly blandness! New attitude! They've FINALLY "fixed" the Swirls, and those chips! (that's sarcasm, btw) Remember your craving for the stand-out Swirls that didn't suck like everyone else's? As of a few days ago, that's no longer a problem, now that you can ONLY get the exact same "splash of sangria on your margarita" that you can at... well, everywhere else. Same with the "new, improved" chips (and a new salsa option certainly doesn't make up for the loss of their unique chips) Yup. New Investment Group Owner MBAs "showing us what we REALLY want". Thanks!!! At least the waitstaff and managers are still good, and trying to work with the hand they've just been dealt, and the new owners haven't ruined the fajita beef.... yet. The place was PACKED around dinner time but we still got a table fairly quickly. It took some time for the water to come acknowledge us. The chips and salsa beat him to the table! Ordered patron margarita, and I was not impressed. It tasted like a lot of sweet/sour mix. Chips & Salsa - salsa has a nice kick to it but not too spicy. I wish the chips were a little thicker but it is complimentary. Pork Ribs - It was sweet and wasn't what I was expecting Tortillas are made in-house and are served fresh off the grill. They're pretty tasty. All in all, I would not go out of my way to come here. It is a mirror image of Pappasitos. This place by all means is not bad, but it just does not stand out to me. I absolutely love the dining experience at This Uncle Julio's restaurant. From the time I enter the restaurant, I feel like the managers and staff are attending to every need! When they tell you how long the wait will be, they are very accurate. The service is always top notch. The waiters and waitresses are attentive, but not overwhelming. The food is amazing! I love the chicken fajitas with honey chipotle sauce. I also enjoy the fresh fruit margaritas with bits of fresh fruit in them. My favorite part is the chocolate piñata though! There is just something wonderful about chocolate and fruit! It is so fun to celebrate a birthday with a chocolate piñata. No matter how old you are, you feel like a kid when you get to hit the chocolate piñata! I've been eating at Uncle Julio's for years. Overall excellent product and service with some minor glitches here and there. Recently I ordered the beef fajitas (I love the medium rare cook on them) and they came out medium. I asked the server if they'd changed to a medium cook with the recent menu changes. He said "let me ask". Then a few minutes later a manager came out with a fresh serving of medium rare perfect fajitas! That's great customer service since I wasn't even asking for a replacement! One thing I have noticed is some shortcuts are being taken with the new menu. Just small cut-backs, but the prices at Uncle Julio's are high enough that I shouldn't have to beg for extra lemon/lime for my fish tacos. Uncle Julios is the real deal. As advertised, they have the best chips and salsa (it's the salsa, the chips are just good, not great) in Fort Worth. The tortillas always come warm, soft, and fresh. All the main courses I have had are decent (I've had fajita's, combo plates, and enchiladas) but nothing to write home about. I wouldn't call any of them "authentic" . Entrees are a little on the pricey side as well. Service is always spot on, and ambiance is typical Mexican-American restaurant flare. Uncle Julio's is a very large place and always stays busy, even at lunch. They offer call ahead service, so be sure to take advantage if you can. read more

Worth Uncle Julios is the best of all of the restaurants in the chain as far as service and food quality / flavor. We've eaten countless meals in the Dallas and Ft. Worth locations, and all of the Maryland and Virginia except for newest in Annapolis. Have to say that there is a distict difference (taste and customer service, ) at Ft. I love the paper-thin chips, smoky salsa, fresh flour tortiallas and consistent guacamole. Our server Deborah was attentive without being annoying, and truly listened when we each had special requests. After the food was delivered by a team member, she checked in to make sure we'd gotten what we'd asked for. It wasn't completely right, but she made it so with one visit. What can I say. Some time ago, when I was raving about Joe T's he asked if I had been to Uncle Julio's. Never heard of it. Tried it fell in love. Bacon wrapped shrimp no one does better especially with mexican butter to dip them in. Tortillas being made right on main floor adds some flavor and the swirls hard to beat. The food did come to my table hot, which I requested because I like hot food, but the pastor tacos had no flavor. The meat had little to no flavor. They were just boring. like boring. So I dumped the good green sauce all over them. I ordered three of those and some rice. The rice was OK. It was hot, but it didn't have much Mexican rice flavor. This is a white people who don't know Mexican food restaurant. Spice and flavor and heat are different. You can have great food with little heat but wonderful flavor. This place just had no flavor in any of the dishes and when I looked around, I only saw white people in there and that was kind of a giveaway the chips that they brought at the beginning kinda average out of a bag. I love Mexican food. It's my favorite food and this is a place I would spend my money at. I'll have to keep looking for a real Mexican place. But if you like boring white people version of me I am then this is the place for you.
