It's been a while since I ate at this restaurant. I was craving puffy tacos and I remember this place sold them. I ordered one beef and one chicken puffy taco. They came with a side of rice and beans. When the plate arrived it looked very appetizing. I was excited to bite into a puffy taco. The excitement soon faded. Everything needed seasoning. The rice. The beans. THE PUFFY TACOS! It is difficult seasoning the beef or chicken since the taco is piled high with lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. The actual fried puffy tacos shell was great and just what I was craving. I am disappointed the "meat of it all" wasn't. My server was great. She was very attentive and kept on top of things. I met a large group of people here this past weekend for a birthday. It was my friends 44th birthday and this is a great place to have a birthday dinner. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere and ambience is amazing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our service was top-notch considering we had over 20 people at our table and basically had one server take care of all of us. She did have some help bringing out the food, but otherwise she ruled the night. I had Carne Asada with beans. I was allowed to substitute the rice for two eggs cooked over medium. This was spectacular and the meal was very satisfying. This was my third time at this restaurant and I definitely look forward to coming back here again. read more

Chicken fajitas are fine, nothing special. This is a fine meal for the price, but nothing will wow you. A fort worth classic, so its probably worth going once! This restaurant has let us down more than once. The restaurant chooses to close whenever they feel like it instead of what's posted on their website. More than once we've arrived well before their posted closing time to find the door locked. Today we walked in at 8:20pm and were told they closed 20 minutes ago. Chili rellenos were delicious. Chips are thin and crispy. Iced tea fresh. Margaritas not sweet and fake. All fresh ingredients. Served in pottery glasses which are unique in presentation. Spicy beef is definitely spicy. Service and hospitality excellent. read more

Incredible food and really great service! We went there late to have dinner with our family; pretty large party and they accommodated us perfectly. We used to go there plenty of times when it was formerly El Rancho Grande. The chips here are SO good idk what they do to their tortillas but I love them and am still mad I didn't order a bag to go. My only cons are that it was a bit pricey (we spent over $200 for a family of 5) and [[HIGHLIGHT]]my daughter has a medical stroller; where we were seated did not have any ramps to get where our table was.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Just for the prices alone, we prob won't be back with our family again for a while-- but it's definitely worth a date night splurge to eat there! read more

I have actually never left a bad review for a restaurant. But I'm leaving one today. We had lunch at this restaurant today and it was horrible. The waitress was so extremely rude. Well don't try to take a group to the Original at 8pm, you will find they are already closed even though the hours posted say till 9pm. Manager did come to door and say basically we closed you are not worth us staying open past 8pm...I asked her don't you need all the business you can get. Yep, but not today. I've been wanting to visit The Original Del Norte for some time, and today, it finally came to fruition. I knew a restaurant that was nearly a hundred years old would be good, and it was good. The puffy tacos were excellent, as were the beans (my favorite thing on my plate, actually). The service was super friendly and attentive. Many years ago, there were two types of Mexican restaurant eaters in Fort Worth. Those that loved El Rancho Grande, and the Joe Garcias people. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The Joe Garcias people loved the ambiance of the garden patio (probably the nicest in the county).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] But many Joe Garcias people would agree that El Rancho Grande's food was better (especially the warm chips and excellent cold salsa). When El Rancho Grande sold to Original Mexican Del Norte, many of us figured that the book was closed on this place. My wife and I had an opportunity to return a few weeks ago, and we loved this place as much as before. We were sad to see that the prices seemed to almost double on many items, but hey... they were very good. Quality meats and cheeses, and everything seemed as good as before (maybe better?). The only thing we would change next time, is if the chips were room temperature, like our last time, we would ask for warm. read more

Service was GREAT!!!!!! 5stars on service 100%!!! Sophie was on point, she is very attentive! Never had to look for her, she was there everytime you need something. The thing is, I never had to ask for anything because she provided us w everything we need without asking. Even things we don't think we need, she brought it to the table for us. She is also super sweet. I think if we come back it would be because of her. Food was ok. People rave about the chips but ehh I definitely had better chips than here. First time eating here. Group of 7, reservations for Saturday at 5pm. I tried dipping the supplied corn tortillas in it, no difference. Uh oh..... For dinner, I had the chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce. The portion was large for 2 enchiladas and they were stuffed with shredded chicken, but again, they were lacking flavor. They were good, nothing special for a place that touts it's history and "best cheese enchiladas on the planet".... Service was excellent! The place got crowded during the course of our dinner, but we were checked on continuously and my drink was never allowed to get empty. Impressive. Overall, the food was a bit disappointing. It was good, but it was bland and nothing near what I had hoped it would be. I'd rather it had been bad with some flavor--at least they'd be trying something. Was a regular at their original location on Camp Bowie. They haven't missed a beat since this became their main location. Definitely my favorite Tex Mex in town & about as close as you can get to San Antonio style Tex Mex here in North Texas. Highly recommend their puffy tacos or the enchiladas. Anna's Dip (queso) to start is a must. Highly recommend the beef fajitas, ground beef nachos and any of the enchiladas. This used to be such a great restaurant but they lost their lease in the old location and they already bought out another restaurant in the north side of Fort Worth. The server was sweet and attentive and the decor is cool. The restaurant that used to be here (El Rancho Grande) was not a good one for me. I always got sick when I ate there, without fail, and now it appears that The Original has started serving the same food that the old restaurant did (El Ranch Grande.) Their prices are very much over the top, the chips and salsa are very disappointing. The Original was known for wonderful chips and salsa. We barely ate these. I was intending to meet a friend and split an order of nachos there Friday but she beat me in and for some reason she just left the server decide what we would order. We ended up drinking water and each having a half order of nachos. After the tax and a small tip we paid $20 a piece. $40. The worst of it is that I got horribly sick before I even got home and I stayed up all night sick as a dog. I feel that the food is too greasy or something but it tasted like the old restaurant El Rancho grande. Also they don't use the same chips that they used to use. Those were also El Rancho Grande chips. And the salsa does not have the taste that it did before. So they are all hyped up about this new location but all they've done is taken an old location and put their name on it and redecorated. I told my friend that I will not eat there again. I've been a customer since the 70's but I'm done with them. They're not trying to keep and please customers as much as they want to maximize their bottom line. Finally went back after the closing of beloved El Rancho Grande and was extremely disappointed. I don't usually leave yelp reviews, especially not negative ones, but I had to say that the food here was not good at all. The only good part were the chips, which is only because it is the same recipe El Rancho used. The food was greasy and lacking in flavor.
