We sat on the patio, which was really nice, although there were quite a few flies. That's certainly not the restaurant's fault--we chose to sit outside because it was such a beautiful day. For drinks, I had the Cadillac Margarita and my son ordered the Trio Flight. He described it as sweet and salty, and we both really enjoyed our drinks. They were refreshing and well made. We started with the Quesadilla-Birria appetizer and substituted corn tortillas for the flour tortillas. The tortillas were packed with flavor and had a great crunch. I would absolutely recommend this appetizer. For my meal, I ordered the carnitas tacos. They were good, but the flavor wasn't quite what I expected. They had a little more tang than I prefer, so I added some crema, which helped balance the flavor for me. My son ordered the shrimp enchiladas, and they were excellent. We both had the cilantro rice, which was a great side. Service was okay. Our waitress, Dora, seemed to be having a tough day and wasn't very personable. Service was a bit slow, but everyone has off days, so hopefully this was just one of them. Overall, we enjoyed the food and drinks and would return. read more

After an emotionally exhausting day in Fort Worth dealing with family matters, my son, niece, and I decided to decompress over dinner and drinks at Uncle Julio's. Unfortunately, for us, this one was a miss. Ambience was ok. Our waiter started off with good energy, but the longer we stayed, the more rushed we felt. From the time we sat down, everything felt very "hurry up." We asked for a moment to look over the cocktail and food menus, and while he did circle back appropriately, once our third person arrived, she barely had time to settle in and review the menu before he was back wanting an order. Every interaction after that felt rushed, and the odd part was the restaurant wasn't even busy. For dinner, we ordered the Guadalajara -- mesquite grilled jumbo bacon-wrapped shrimp stuffed with Monterey Jack cheese and fresh jalapeño, served with mesquite grilled chicken and steak fajitas, guacamole, sour cream, cheese, pico de gallo, sautéed peppers and onions, and homemade flour tortillas. Somewhere in the conversation about the fajitas for two versus the Guadalajara, there was definitely some confusion. The way it was explained made it sound like the Guadalajara also served two people, but it absolutely does not. What arrived was clearly portioned for one person, and that was disappointing considering the price point. Now, flavor-wise, the steak and chicken were cooked perfectly. The shrimp had good flavor as well, though the bacon could've been crispier. The vegetables, beans, and rice were just okay. I also requested corn tortillas and initially didn't receive them, though they did correct it once I mentioned it. The Chili Con Queso with the chips and salsa honestly ended up being one of the highlights of the meal. The queso was creamy and flavorful with onions, tomatoes, and jalapeños blended throughout. The margaritas were also very good. We even scanned the barcode for the complimentary guacamole promo, though there was a small hiccup getting it applied correctly to the check. Thankfully, that was fixed without issue. Overall, nothing was terrible, but for roughly $150, I expected a more relaxed and enjoyable dining experience. Maybe it was an off night, but I left feeling underwhelmed. Still, don't let my experience stop you from trying it yourself. I'm simply sharing our experience. read more

The drinks are great, well made and to order. Queso was on point. It and the chips were so tasty, but don't fill up on chips, dips and Queso!! We got the mixed beef and chicken fajitas with 6 jumbo shrimp. Always add the Shrimp, they come 3 to an order. Arm wrestle for the extra shrimp! On a sad note, we are from out of town, they stopped the sopaipilla's and switched to Curro's. They are good, but we miss our sopaipils's. read more

Came in here for lunch after it reopened. Service was fantastic and our waitress was very attentive. The salsa was slightly bland but the chips were fresh. The queso definitely was creamy and had ok flavor. The Baja fish tacos were good and the mango pico in the salsa was refreshing. We decided on an early dinner and hopefully take advantage of Happy Hour prices. We didn't want to sit in the bar area, so we asked to be seated in the dining room. Since we were there for early dining, we asked Miguel, our server, what was available for Happy Hour. He shook his head and said nothing in the main dining room, only in the bar area. Unbelievable, oh well, unsweetened iced tea for the two of us. Since we hadn't had Uncle Julio's fajitas before we decided to split an order for one between the two of us. A hot basket of chips and salsa were soon delivered to our table. Unfortunately, the chips and salsa were underwhelming. In our basket there were several clumps of chips stuck together and were really greasy. Someone in the kitchen wasn't stirring the chips in the fryer well enough. Since the salsa was only OK, we didn't request replacement chips. In a flash, our chicken fajitas, were brought to our table sizzling along with all the accompaniments. In our honest opinion, the fajitas were good but not great. They did have a very nice Mesquite grilled smokey flavor. We left the restaurant with full tummies. Miguel did provide very attentive service during our visit. There were several disappointments during time at Uncle Julio, no happy hour prices in the dining room, so strange, the chips and the so-so fajitas. read more

Uncle Julio's, which is a popular Tex-Mex chain, has unfortunately been a disappointment to me. I've been twice, and the food is just not up to par. The salsa is smoky, and the fresh tomato, onion, and cilantro taste is missing. The queso is like Velveeta. I ordered cheese enchiladas on this past visit, and they added vegetables without checking with me. Beans with meat were brought out because allergies and dietary restrictions were not confirmed. I was able to switch to black beans. Even then, the beans and rice lacked flavor. The waitress was nice, and she refilled chips and soft drinks, which was slightly unnecessary because a lot of chips went to waste when the basket wasn't empty, and the same with the drinks. Sure, they give kids dough to play with, and you can see them making fresh tortillas. It's a spacious restaurant, but not where I would go for my Tex-Mex fix. read more

The Uncle Julio's in Austin closed so I always try to make a stop when I am in the Dallas area. The meal starts with free chips and salsa. It is hard to find a restaurant with good chips and salsa, but this is one of them and I am a fan of both. The chips are served warm and are thin and crispy with a good crunch. I love their margaritas that are fresh and made with muddled fruit. My go to order is the Guadalajara that includes mesquite grilled bacon wrapped jumbo shrimp stuffed with Monterey Jack and jalapeño with chicken and beef fajita meat served with flour tortillas, Mexican butter, cheddar cheese, guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo. I added diced tomatoes as well. I am not a fan of the Mexican rice or beans. We were able to split the fajitas and there was generous portion size. My favorite dessert is the Mexican piñata, a one of a kind smashable dessert that has fruit and churros inside of a chocolate ball. The restaurant was busy but the server was attentive and efficient. The food quality is very, very good. It's got a similar taste and smell as Pappasitos. I love the fajita steak nachos and the chicken fajitas are great too! The flour tortillas are to die for! OMG I had like 3 of those and craved more even though I was full. The have a Chocolate Piñata desert which is fun for kids or birthdays, it's a little pricey but the experience and fresh fruit makes it worth it for special occasions. The menu has changed and so has pricing . I've added the new menu. The drink are always made nice and pretty strong too. The only think I don't care for is that Smokey salsa. I really wish there was another option, because the chips are good, but that dark salsa with that char taste isn't for everyone. I read where this place (Camp Bowie) was remodeled and everything but it looked like it had a coat of paint here and there. Bathrooms were not that clean which tells me how it's maintained. I've seen several transitions over the years and hadn't visited in a while, but unfortunately, it's still lacking. This used to be my go-to spot for Mexican food, and sadly, that's no longer the case. Yall need to fix y'all's air conditioner instead of running a bunch of fans around the restaurant. I recently went here with my friends after the remodel and I was pleasantly surprised.When I walked in I saw a more modern approach of a Tex mex restaurant. The waiter got all of the orders correct and was kind even though some of his customers were not wonderful. I ordered the chicken nuggets the fries were salted perfectly but the texture was mushy and not very crunchy.The tenders were crispy and were moist on the inside.Overall the restaurant improved. read more

The manager did bring more chips and did come to the table and said he would find out the mixup on the drink. Food arrived, bowl of soup(s), fajitas. Beans were stone cold! We were brought 3 tortillas, THREE. Asked for drink refills....never showed up. Food was subpar, new menu is not good. Service was just okay, not very good. We always leave 20%+ but not this time. The service was awful. It took a very long to be acknowledged and refills were nearly impossible to come by. Our waitress would disappear for long stretches of time. When another waitress brought our food, my order was wrong. Again our waitress was nowhere to be found. So the second waitress asked the manager to fix it. He even brought us refills and checked on us. It wasn't just our table. Another table went and tracked her down asking for service. I've waited tables before and I give a lot of grace and mercy, but this was just inexplicable. She only had 4 tables in her section. but only 2 were occupied. I have no idea where she was going when she would disappear. I don't normally post negative reviews, but I haven't had service that bad in a long time. Went to get dinner and drinks. Drinks were good but food was definitely not good. I ordered the supreme nachos but tasted more like football nachos, queso tasted like Walmart queso, even on my nachos. My friend got the Roja enchiladas, " awful. It doesn't feel cooked all the way".
