The service was not great. It felt like it took 10 minutes before someone said hello and before either one of the two guys behind the bar acknowledged us. Also, there were dirty plates with food next to us during our entire meal. Chips were light and fluffy, I really liked the chips but the salsa however could have been better. It had a good smokey flavor, I just wish there was a little more heat. It was bland. It took a while before we were acknowledged at the bar. I asked for a frosty mug with my beer and by the time it came out my beer was warm. We had Tacos and they were pretty good. We ordered veggies instead of beans and rice and they gave us a plate of mostly onions. Overall, it was not a terrible experience and Im not sure we will be back...the service could be better and the food was blah. When our food arrived, the metal plate was so hot it burnt the butter (image included), veggies, & all of the meat on the plate. Got here around 7pm on Saturday night. Not very busy. House margarita was awful. Tasted super sour. Sent it back but the waitress said she would "comp" it. Waited 20 minutes for queso. They ran out of queso. We cancelled and she said she would "comp" the queso. FYI Julio's, "comp" is short for "compensation which means no charge to make up for some short coming otherwise. "Comp" does not mean you've removed it from our ticket because it never came or it was bad and sent back. It took 45 minutes for our fajitas for 1 to get to table. Since we were sharing fajitas, we had to ask for plates. She brought 1. Hello, there are 2 of us so we need 2 plates. The beef was chewy. Certainly NOT characteristic of Uncle Julio's. Finally tried the new Uncle Julio's in Frisco, Texas and it was crazy busy at dinner hour on a Wednesday. The new facility is really big, but the acoustics made it sound like a rowdy high school cafeteria inside. *Rear patio still under construction, anybody wanna help? Quiet zone needed. Staff is pleasant & helpful, and found us a booth that we requested. The printed menu does not have photos, reading in the dim light is not easy for everybody. (hint, hint) Study the online menu before arrival. We chose the combo Chicken and Skirt Steak Fajitas "for 2" dinner. Came with tortiilas, guacamole, grated cheese & sour cream. *Unless you request Rice & Beans, it will not be brought out. The kitchen was really busy today, but we enjoyed the thin chips with 2 tasty salsas meanwhile. Meanwhile became a longwhile, then took a while, wow. The fajitas arrived, sizzling, steaming, and looking good. When the steam stopped, then I could see the burnt meat. The overwhelmed kitchen let this plate get too hot. We decided it would take too long for a replacement, and trimmed off the burnt parts. For the price, we should have returned it. But we grew up as poor folks, and ate worse before. Went today for the first time. My meal was wrong I ordered the Maria which is all chicken I get the Roberto which is all beef. The manager Robert is terrible he should not be in management. We have been regulars at uncle Julio's (Addison location) for 20 years and we were so excited when the Frisco location opened. At first everything was great but the last 2 visits have been awful. Their food seems to have changed lately... noticeably their queso. They said they have a new recipe. We are so upset and disappointed. The new recipe is not good! Food quality was not so good - Medium rare steak came well done and overly salty. Chicken fajita came nearly raw. Avocado was unripe. Almost broke a tooth on the rice it was so under cooked. Good salsa. Good server. Smaller portions, higher prices than our regular Mexican restaurants, so no compelling reason to return, let's see how management responds to this. Can't get a paper receipt. The food and drink specials were the same as always (epic smoky salsa!) but gosh service wasn't great here. We sat in the relatively not busy bar and struggled to get our server's attention, despite him hanging out at the hostess stand 50 ft away. "Would you like another?" "Yes, thank you" resulted in delivery of drinks that were similar to, but not the same, as the original round. (Think regular margarita vs skinny margarita.) Oddly enough, none of the beans options for the fajitas are vegetarian as they all have pork, so I would avoid the fajitas if you're vegetarian. In addition, we went there tonight for their taco special and when our bill came, there was a $10 up charge from changing the ground beef to steak. The waitress may have mentioned that there was an up charge and it definitely said it on the menu, but it didn't mention what the cost was keep in mind a taco special is $12 a portion and we only upgraded one so it essentially doubled the price with without anyone mentioning it when I asked to talk to the manager he basically just about that's our price Not to mention when they brought out our food, they didn't bring plates. Two sizzling fajita plates. There's hope! Each meal comes with a tiny serving of rice & beans & a little plate with guacamole/shredded cheese/sour cream. --if you order fajitas for one do you get 1/2 of that?-- oh and get this, you get THREE tortillas for a two person fajita meal. Que?!? My thoughts exactly lol. Make it 2 each... but 3 total? How do you share that without breaking one in half. Weird. My friends steak fajitas were super chewy. Ours was the chicken and steak fajitas. It was still mooing and was not even medium adjacent. We tell the waiter and he asks the kitchen to cook it longer. Overall, I would not waste my money coming back. TLDR. -Pros- Server was nice. Flour tortillas were good. They tasted homemade. Salsas were delish. Restaurant is beautiful. -Cons- Service from beginning to end. Our server wasn't bad. Food isn't special Portions are for children Drinks were not constantly filled. We got the platter for 4-5 with a rack of ribs, beef fajitas, chicken fajita, and sausage. The sausage and chicken fajitas were good. The ribs were very tough, no flavor to speak of. The Beef fajitas were well done. The thing that was the worst part portions of Fajitas were about a 1/4 of a pound. There were 4 of us eating on the platter and we each got two small pieces of each of the fajita meats, very disappointing.
