Got here around 7pm on Saturday night. Not very busy. House margarita was awful. Tasted super sour. Sent it back but the waitress said she would "comp" it. Waited 20 minutes for queso. They ran out of queso. We cancelled and she said she would "comp" the queso. FYI Julio's, "comp" is short for "compensation which means no charge to make up for some short coming otherwise. "Comp" does not mean you've removed it from our ticket because it never came or it was bad and sent back. It took 45 minutes for our fajitas for 1 to get to table. Since we were sharing fajitas, we had to ask for plates. She brought 1. Hello, there are 2 of us so we need 2 plates. The beef was chewy. Certainly NOT characteristic of Uncle Julio's. I gave 2 stars because the chicken was very good. Overall, the Frisco location was very disappointing. We'll stick to the Spring Valley location. They get it right every time. read more

Finally tried the new Uncle Julio's in Frisco, Texas and it was crazy busy at dinner hour on a Wednesday. The new facility is really big, but the acoustics made it sound like a rowdy high school cafeteria inside. *Rear patio still under construction, anybody wanna help? Quiet zone needed. Staff is pleasant & helpful, and found us a booth that we requested. The printed menu does not have photos, reading in the dim light is not easy for everybody. (hint, hint) Study the online menu before arrival. We chose the combo Chicken and Skirt Steak Fajitas "for 2" dinner. Came with tortiilas, guacamole, grated cheese & sour cream. *Unless you request Rice & Beans, it will not be brought out. The kitchen was really busy today, but we enjoyed the thin chips with 2 tasty salsas meanwhile. Meanwhile became a longwhile, then took a while, wow. The fajitas arrived, sizzling, steaming, and looking good. When the steam stopped, then I could see the burnt meat. The overwhelmed kitchen let this plate get too hot. We decided it would take too long for a replacement, and trimmed off the burnt parts. For the price, we should have returned it. But we grew up as poor folks, and ate worse before. Always like Julio's. Been going to one location or another for 20+ years. But it seems like they are understaffed now and servers are also having to bus tables. Our server did a good job, considering. The reason for the negative review is that they gave us packaged tortillas with our fajitas. Came right out of a bag. One of their big selling points has always been fresh tortillas. I hope that was a temporary situation, or that will probably be a dealbreaker for us. read more

Chips were fresh & warm. Salsa is always excellent. Generous portions. Waiter left a carafe of water, so we wouldn't have to wait for refills. Best thing was when I asked to take home my leftover chips & salsa, our waiter bagged me up a nice sized bag of fresh chips & salsa to go! I was so pleased with the service!! We had tamale, enchiladas, taco, rice & beans. All portions were very generous and food was delicious! We came here by accident on a soft opening.They took us when they found out it's our anniversary without reservation. I was impressed by my last visit. This was visit was completely different. The chicken and steak fajitas had flavorful beef however the chicken lacked flavor. The black beans with the poblano peppers were great the charro beans tasted like a canned food product. The food and drink specials were the same as always (epic smoky salsa!) but gosh service wasn't great here. We sat in the relatively not busy bar and struggled to get our server's attention, despite him hanging out at the hostess stand 50 ft away. "Would you like another?" "Yes, thank you" resulted in delivery of drinks that were similar to, but not the same, as the original round. (Think regular margarita vs skinny margarita.) Pretty decent food, we ordered the veggie fajitas and the churros. Oddly enough, none of the beans options for the fajitas are vegetarian as they all have pork, so I would avoid the fajitas if you're vegetarian. Other than that, they were pretty decent although the portion for the rice/beans/sour cream and other toppings quite small. I would say that the food at the uncle Julio's is the same as any other uncle Julio's, which is good. However, I will say that the service is lackluster. In addition, we went there tonight for their taco special and when our bill came, there was a $10 up charge from changing the ground beef to steak. The waitress may have mentioned that there was an up charge and it definitely said it on the menu, but it didn't mention what the cost was keep in mind a taco special is $12 a portion and we only upgraded one so it essentially doubled the price with without anyone mentioning it when I asked to talk to the manager he basically just about that's our price Not to mention when they brought out our food, they didn't bring plates. We have been regulars at uncle Julio's (Addison location) for 20 years and we were so excited when the Frisco location opened. At first everything was great but the last 2 visits have been awful. Their food seems to have changed lately... noticeably their queso. They said they have a new recipe. We are so upset and disappointed. The new recipe is not good! No sizzling plate, I could lay my hand on the cast iron and it wasn't hot. Whole meal was just not good. I got the combo chicken and beef fajitas. Chicken was dry and charred. The beef was tough and not good quality. I got fajitas, small queso, 2 sodas, tortilla soup...bill was 66 bucks. The birthday girl got a chocolate piñata with about 6 unripe strawberries, 6 tiny pieces of pineapples and churros. It was pitiful for 35.00. Save your money and go to la hacienda ranch down Preston. One of the loudest restaurants we've ever been to, the noise negates any sense of enjoy-ability and relaxation. Shame as the interior is otherwise very nice. Food quality was not so good - Medium rare steak came well done and overly salty. Chicken fajita came nearly raw. Avocado was unripe. Almost broke a tooth on the rice it was so under cooked. Good salsa. Good server. Smaller portions, higher prices than our regular Mexican restaurants, so no compelling reason to return, let's see how management responds to this. Can't get a paper receipt. It is beyond me how anyone can even give this place more than a star lol. We called trying to reserve and they only take reservations two hours ahead of time. Fine. We asked for an approximate wait and they said 20-25 then 30 min. We arrived in person and were told 40 minutes. We ended up waiting a few minutes over one hour. "The hostess/host area sucks- food will be better" you say. Ok, fine. We decided not to hold it against them and tried to be positive. My friend ordered a shrimp appetizer. Our table ordered two soft drinks and two alcoholic drinks. The watermelon drinks were in the worst possible glass. There was more ice than anything. Drinks were mid. Not enough alcohol. At this point we were still hopeful for the food. There were four of us so we ordered two fajita plates for (2) each. My friends order a queso app after we order our meal. It shows up almost immediately. Is it velveeta melted? It looked soupy- not cheesy. We decided this was not a real queso and after a tiny sample said thanks but no thanks. The food arrives. Two sizzling fajita plates. There's hope! Each meal comes with a tiny serving of rice & beans & a little plate with guacamole/shredded cheese/sour cream. --if you order fajitas for one do you get 1/2 of that?-- oh and get this, you get THREE tortillas for a two person fajita meal. Que?!? My thoughts exactly lol. Make it 2 each... but 3 total? How do you share that without breaking one in half. Weird. My friends steak fajitas were super chewy. Ours was the chicken and steak fajitas. It was still mooing and was not even medium adjacent. We tell the waiter and he asks the kitchen to cook it longer. Overall, I would not waste my money coming back. TLDR. -Pros- Server was nice. Flour tortillas were good. They tasted homemade. Salsas were delish. The manager on duty, Manny, came across as unwelcoming in how he spoke to both guests and staff. When I mentioned an issue with my food, I felt rushed, dismissed, and treated like an inconvenience. As someone with service industry experience, I understand busy nights, but respect and good customer service should always come first. Mind you, this wasn't a busy night. They got rid of their red salsa and now just have the brown smoky salsa which I happen to like but why. Service was so slow. It took 45 minutes to get our food after we ordered. The chicken tortilla soup recipe has changed to some red tomato-ey thing that doesn't resemble a tortilla soup. Did I mention they didn't have tortillas?! "The machine broke" was the excuse. We got the platter for 4-5 with a rack of ribs, beef fajitas, chicken fajita, and sausage. The sausage and chicken fajitas were good. The ribs were very tough, no flavor to speak of. The Beef fajitas were well done. The thing that was the worst part portions of Fajitas were about a 1/4 of a pound. There were 4 of us eating on the platter and we each got two small pieces of each of the fajita meats, very disappointing. And had to send them back-reordered a house. And it was much better. Also had waters. Overall a disappointing experience in food compared to original location in FW off of Camp Bowie. Went to dinner here Saturday night after it finally opened. They had just opened that Weds so it was a bit of a crazy time for them working out the kinks. My wife and I didn't mind. Found a spot at the bar since the wait for a table was running at least 1 hour. The staff were friendly. Bartender was super nice as well. Just enjoyed our cocktails and people watching. We had the Cadillac and margaritas swirl. I liked the Cadillac, but my wife said the swirl was just ok. The restaurant looked really nice and they were so busy they had 2-3 bartenders just running and making drinks for the tables. The chips and two kind of salsa were delicious. We decided to order the Jalisco fajita trio. It came with shrimp, beef fajita and chicken fajitas for $31. I will say we were a bit surprised that at $31 dish came out to 3 small shrimp, 3 slices of chicken and 3 slices of beef fajitas. Hahahahaha! I know there is inflation, but seriously that was very disappointing and amusing at the same time. I think management needs to reconsider a bit more food. On a side note, they don't give you rice and borracho beans unless you request this in advance (it does state this on the menu) so we did request. Borracho beans were good, but just a small scoop of Mexican rice. I'm giving this place 4 stars because they were really nice and the place is so convenient to our house. But honestly, you get more bang for your buck at Mi Cocina or La Hacienda Ranch down the street for Tex-Mex.
