It has been over a decade since I was last at Uncle Julio's, and now I know why. The menu is quite limited, and the prices are quite high for Tex-Mex. They are very proud of their steaks, but that's not why one goes to a Mexican place. The requisite chips and salsa are placed on the table, the chips were quite greasy, still glistening with it in fact. The salsa is a very smoky chipotle-based salsa, some people like it and some will not. The fish tacos... extremely salty, practically inedible. The beans are served in a small cup, and a very flavorful, just hard to eat because they're in a cup and no spoon is included. If I ever go back, I think I'll wait another decade. read more

Came here for a birthday dinner because they like the big chocolate piñata. Food is definitely good but not the best Mexican restaurant in town. Great atmosphere and great for parties. For Tex Mex in the area Uncle Julio's is just not worth it. (Grapevine Texas location) This place used to great. Food and drinks were good, good price for the quality, not the cheapest - but hey its not always about that. This would be a medium on the scale of fancy/pricey. Used to go there frequently for fajitas and margaritas. However the food has fallen to a poorer quality. Not as flavorful, kind of lack-8k78lustre and they are relying on splashy gimmicks instead of quality ( Chocolate Piñata anyone?) Also service is getting pretty bad. Walk in one night and told the wait is 30 mins. More then an hour later we are seated - and ignored for 20 mins. Basically poorly managed front of the house, waitstaff etc. There are so many better places nearby to go instead. Try Baja, Cristina's or Mi Dia from Scratch instead!! read more

Ties for second for my favorite Mexican restaurant! Anything from the grill is excellent. Ribs- yes ribs at a Mexican restaurant- are really delicious. Fajitas are the best. Margaritas are all fresh and fantastic. I'll admit that the rice and beans are not my favorite, but the meats make up for that. Chips and salsa are seriously good. Service can be a little hit and miss at this location, but never poor enough to keep me from returning. Can be a little spendy, but highly recommend!!! read more

Uncle Julio's was our favorite Tex-Mex restaurant from the time we found the Camp Bowie location and later this Grapevine location. Unfortunately it seems a corporate cost cutting policy has eliminated chili relleno (my wife's favorite for 28 years) and flan from the menu. I used the loyalty app to tell corporate that I'd just googled "relleno near me," but they didn't seem interested. Oh, well; we'll probably go for special occasions for the chocolate piñata, but for regular dinners; there are too many choices that offer chili relleno and flan. Sorry about that! read more

I certainly will not be back to this location. We had a group of 23 people and I made our reservations weeks in advance. As this was a corporate event, I called several times after securing the reservation to ensure they'd be prepared for us. Upon arrival we we're told it'd be 15 minutes to be seated, after 40 minutes of waiting I inquired as to when our table would be ready. We were finally seated, I pulled the manager aside and explained yet again this was a corporate event, and after the wait I needed it to be a top notch lunch, to the best of her ability. Her response: 'we'll do what we can do.' I never saw the manager again while we were eating, no one offered so much as an apology, nothing. Busy is one thing but not caring about customer service is another. I won't be back and I feel sure my 22 other colleagues feel the same. read more

But we don't live close any more but our friend was staying at the Gaylord for business so we went to UJ for a treat. He had never been. We raved about it. Talked about the amazing gordo platter that you no longer have apparently. We ordered beef fajitas for two and a bacon wrapped shrimp plate. (Not even close to what we had in the past btw) Fajitas we almost over cooked. I requested to substitute veggies for my rice and beans. Waiter let us know it would be unpcharge. We were changed $9 for what literally was one whole zucchini/squash. You can buy 2 for 99 cents.. Like 4 little slices for 7 freaking dollars?? You could've at least tossed in the rice and beans instead of substituting for that price it should've been considered alacarte. Queso was mediocre at best. Overpriced for coming out room temp. Our tab $160 and addional for tip. The grapefruit margarita was tasty I'll give you that. But the meal was NOT worth that. We were mortified at what we got for that price. We always come expecting a decently higher tab but this is ridiculous. Food isn't as good as it used to be that's for sure and I'm pretty sure prices might even be higher. The server was great, btw. BUT we felt horrible talking our friend there. So embarrassed after raving about you. We wont be back. My husband was so disappointed. You were his favorite. Visited this location for a small group celebration on Thursday May 4th about 2pm in the afternoon. (HH is 3-7pm) btw. The hostess was very nonchalant and on the phone when I arrived. Since I was the first in my party I waited for the others to show (she didn't bother to ask me if I was waiting for a group or how many in my party anyhow. Not a good first impression. Once the others arrived we were seated. Our waiter was absolutely amazing. Attentive, helpful, and kept the drinks and chips/salsa flowing! (5 stars for him). The food was very underwhelming. I was not a fan of the chips they were a little greasy and the salsa was on the sweet/spicy side a weird combo to me. I ordered the grilled vegetables fajitas $16.99 unfortunately these were the only option (of fajitas) NOT available on the lunch menu (served until-3pm). They were very filling with zucchini, mushrooms, grilled onions & bell peppers. The waiter was also very thoughtful and brought me both corn & flour tortillas although I only asked for corn. The food was a solid 3 for me. It was pretty overpriced for what you get in comparison to other Tex-Mex restaurants with a little better quality like El-Fenix... my coworkers did enjoy their HH $5 margaritas and I feel they were a bargain. If I did decide to return it would most definitely have to be for HH or lunch to justify the price. we stopped by here on our way to oklahoma by chance. talk about a mistake. once we ordered our food our waitress never came back. not even once. we had no silverware, sat there without drinks,no napkins, we order queso and Guacamole and it never even came. I had to carry my chips,dip and my husband and I drinks to the bars and ask for refills on everything. no one brought us our check even. I again walked over to the bar and ask for our check and told them we weren't being waited on at all. I asked to talk to the manager to tell him how we had been treated and his response was I'm sorry and walked off. I'm still in disbelief of what happened here. Went to an Uncle Julio's in the Dallas area. We tried to go around 7pm on a Friday and it was so packed we couldn't get in. Wait was about 35-40 minutes. First time here, though I used to go to a couple of Uncle Julio spots in Dallas "back in the day". The Grapevine location is huge, with high ceilings and loud. It's also quite nice inside (and loud). Once we were seated we were given the standard chips and salsa. The salsa was alright, the chips were way greasy. Waaayyyy greasy. We ordered chicken fajita nachos and a bowl of queso (it was Sunday brunch, but we weren't feeling it for Bloody Marys), and the nachos were not that great, and remarkably bland. While I was happy they came with fresh (and not canned) Jalapeños, they were without any heat. It's frankly rare that a restaurant can serve lame nachos, but here we are. Sadly the queso came a bit later than the nachos, so much so my wife told the waiter to not bother at that point, but the queso arrived anyway. Which was too bad, as the "queso" was more like "cheese soup". I'll chalk it up to a busy day at Uncle Julio's, and maybe they were slammed, but I can't say I'd rush back soon. read more

My family and I visit Uncle Julio's quite frequently and have rarely been disappointed. However, today's visit was terrible!!! First it took almost 20 minutes to get our drinks. Another 20 minutes to even order our food THEN when we got our food, the meat was not done not to mention the portion size was minuscule. We order the same thing every-time so I know what the correct portion is. Our fajita plate looked like it was for a kids size and when we brought it up to the waiter he just shrugged his shoulders. REALLY???? I was appalled by the lack of empathy and service that we received today at Uncle Julio's. I must say the check was the fastest item that the waiter brought to our table and my check was incorrect and instead of fixing it he said that it was due to the time. When I explained that we were there during the allotted time, he said he would go talk to his manager. He came back stating the manager said that they couldn't change it because I ordered a frozen instead of a fresh margarita which it does not state on the menu. I didn't push it because it was a $1.79 price difference but really you were going to argue over less than $2 after the terrible service we had??? Great food. Gotten hooked on pulled chicken nachos. Sooo good gotten my wife hooked on them too. Enough food to make a meal without being stuffed. Add their guacamole/queso dip combo & you can't go wrong. Don't be mistaken I've got other favorites there but this is my current fav. Want to try their chocolate pinata but that's too much chocolate for two (If there is such a thing?) Wait staff is outstanding!! Best we've had so far is Adam. He's personable, fast, & never messes up an order. Usually knows what you want/need before you ask for it. Try Uncle Julios. You'll like the food & service. Haven't been to Uncle Julio's in over 20 years. My wife wanted to go because she read about a chocolate piñata. We arrived at 5 after noon on Saturday. Our waiter was prompt, courteous and attentive. Chips and salsa were complementary. Our order was taken then the wait began. We went through four baskets of chips and four small cups of salsa. I enjoyed the salsa. I noticed several other tables were waiting a very long time as well as we were for our food. From start to finish we literally were there 2 hours. Other tables were also. I assume the kitchen was understaffed. Our food was good. Not terrific. To me just average. I had the Flautas. They were flavorful but dripping with a bit of grease. My wife had enchiladas. They were better than my flautas. Our friends has the shrimp tacos and quesadillas. The tacos were full of cilantro and mango. So much cilantro that she picked it all out. The quesadillas were said to be good. We ordered the Chocolate Lovers Piñata. It came hanging on an apparatus and filled with Strawberries, Churrod and Little Chocolate filled bread balls. The whole thing was large enough for 6 people. Overall it was good but pricey. The Piñata was $30. Way too much. read more

I have been to Uncle Julio's in Grapevine several times and have never had a bad experience there. Great atmosphere and the service is always excellent. The ribs and fajitas are outstanding and my wife loves their chicken enchiladas. My family and I recently went to Julio's in Grapevine and and thanks to "call ahead seating" our wait was less than 5 minutes. The food, as always, was excellent and the service was just as good. This is our birthday spot where all the family meets up from out of town each year. We always get the fajitas for 2 (which usually feeds 3 of us) and queso. All of it is worth going back for time and time again. We are never hungry enough for dessert but I image it's delicious. It looks that way. The service tonight was excellent. Not often do I notice how good a waiter or waitress is doing unless it's subpar, but the staff really made the experience more than enjoyable with friendly and speedy service. Loud and high pitched squeal that was much worse than nails down a chalkboard! Manager said it was their tortilla machine, but didn't seem to give a flip that it was very disturbing to his customers. So I have heard of this Uncle Julio's joint in Grapevine but never had the notion to go there. However, we were going to meet up with friends in Grapevine and we wanted Mexican food. Uncle Julios was suggested and we went with it. We got there early and sat at the bar and asked for a Margarita. Margarita's were good let me tell you! However, they charged out the butt for them and they didn't use a premium Tequila. They use a house Tequila called "Dumb Customer Blend" or something like that. It wasn't the Tequila that made this drink...it was the Triple Sec. It was finely blended and went down smooth...which was expected since the Tequila had the potentcy of water. Our friends show up and we get seated and we get our Chips and Salsa right away. Now...like any Mexican Food Afficiando, you can pretty much tell how the rest of the food is going to be based on the Chips and Salsa (i.e. Mexican Inn in Bedford uses Frito's and a salsa that tastes like Ketchup so no surprise when the food tasted like stinky feet). Well, the Chips and Salsa were OK at best. Chips are thin which is actually what I prefer but the Salsa was just....eh...what's the word? Oh yeah...CRAP! It's tough to find Salsa that has no flavor since it is made with peppers, tomatos, onions, etc....but eating a Chip doused in this mystery mix...all I tasted was chip. Where's the beef...I mean flavor? BLAH. I told my wife, I bet the food sucks. That is when I opened the menu and saw the outrageous prices they charged. Holy Crap. Uncle Julio is probably owns half of Cancun on the profits he makes on this menu. After the initial shell shock of the pricing, I began to peruse the menu. $12.95 for 3 Enchiladas? For $12.95, Uncle Julio better be cooking them, serving them and then washing my car later. So...I order the Enchilada's because nothing really sounded good on the menu. It was like looking at a high priced fancy Taco Bueno menu. My Enchilada plate contained a beef, chicken and Cheese Enchilada. The Cheese one was actually good. The beef...well I had to really try to get the image out of my head that I wasn't eating a 6 inch turd. I understand a beef enchilada comes out with a beef sauce...but this looked like straight up like liquid dook! It tasted like it too. After two bites, I was done. The Chicken Enchilada looked like it has potential, but the chicken inside was overcooked so it was chewy and the sour cream sauce on it was too sour...almost like curdled milk flavor. Thank god I had chips to eat. My wife got some beef meal that was like $22 and it had a name I can't pronounce. Probably means 'SUCKER' in spanish or something. Small portion and she ate about half of it before making eye contact with me. She gave me the look I know all too well. The look that says "Taco Bell Drive thru on the way home?" I looked at her with eyebrows raised and gave her the "You know it Sugar!" look. Then I just said "You know it babydoll!" Our waiter was pretty cool. We tried to get him to do a shot with us but he wasn't having it. Good for him. Here is the thing though...I'm in the car business. If you give customers one of the best experiences they ever had when buying a car, they remember your name, refer you and buy their next car from you. Same goes for the wait staff. If you provide me with a great dining experience....I will remember your name and tell everyone I know to see you when they eat there. Long story short...I have no idea what the waiters name was....but he had something interesting going on with his facial hair. So...on my scale of 1-10, I give Julio's a 2. The only good thing about this place was a watered down Margarita and a Cheese Enchilada that gave me some Awesome Farts later which I debuted in the car later and almost made my wife throw up. When vomiting is on the cusp, that is when that fart becomes Legendary. Don't go to Uncle Julios. Save 80% of what you will spend there and get Taco Bell. The food is better at the Bell. read more
