It is super slow! We waited in line for half an hour because there was two families which was understandable, but how come it takes soooo long! The staff there just taking it so slow acting like they don't care. The two family ordered 10 cups in total, but it took like forever for them to scoop the ice cream out! Those who know me will mention that I go far out of my way to get Italian ice. I will often ride a mile or two out of my way just to stop here for a refreshing pint of vanilla chip dip. What I like about Uncle Louie G's is that the prices are low, the servings are large, and the selection is overwhelming! Most locations carry up to 60 different flavors. Admittedly, I have tried most of them, but I do have some favorites (cannoli, honeydew, pistachio, and, of course, vanilla chip dip) The only negative thing I have to say about this location is that they occasionally hire a pretty crummy staff. The last couple times I went the workers were slow and unfriendly. The attitude of the staff is not critical in my eyes, because it is the ice I go there for, not the service. read more

Be warned! The soft-serve here is no ordinary cold dessert. It is almost shockingly rich and creamy and is served maybe closer to room temperature than to freezing--I suspect making it colder would render it hard like actual ice cream. This might be the sign of quality for some, but simpletons like myself, bred on humble McDonald's and Mister Softee soft-serves, may prefer the cheaper, airy, freezing stuff to this. That said, the italian ice is worthy of repeat visits. It's not the hard ice you'd eat with a little wooden spoon, or even a stiff sorbet. Good, local ice cream purveyor with multiple locations in bk. I've tried a few of the flavors, and I can't get enough of the "Brooklyn Cheesecake". It's creamy vanilla ice cream with chunks of cheesecake mixed in. So simple but so good! The large ($4) is more than enough to split with a friend, too. AMAZING! Or as my husband exclaimed "I'm in ice cream heaven!". We had the hot waffle sandwich with Vanilla Snicker which was loaded so big, the lid of the container wouldn't close; and the Chocolate Fudge Brownie in a waffle cone that was so packed (easily 5 scoops) and overflowing it cracked the cone (they had to double cone it)! Now I'm somewhat biased because I'm always going to stand up for Fabio's Ices a block away from where I currently live, they truly have ices that are very close to ice cream without being it. Here is very servicable though, and it's a tempting stand considering it's right across from Union Hall. Beer plus ices equals greatness. I had the strawberry and was pleased to see little strawberry seed bits in there, the flavor was very strong and definitely hit the spot on a warm Saturday afternoon, a bit sugary but that's perfectly fine with me for a couple bucks worth of ice cold goodness. Uncle Louie G is a staple in Park Slope with about 3 locations (that i know of) in Park Slope alone, this spot is a must if you are in the mood for some good Italian style ices. I remember the first day this Location opened a few years back, the lines were around the corner, and nothing has changed until this day, the lines are still long, especially on Hot summer days. Their ices are made with real fruit and high quality ingredients. They have an extensive menu of Ices & Ice Cream, as well as Sundaes, Shakes, waffles and cakes. If you happen to see a woman walking down the street on a snowing, frigid day eating an ice cream cone that would probably be me! I've been to Uncle Louie G a few times. I like the place. The ice cream is good and they have many flavors to choose from. I like the fact that they have interesting flavors, like Apple Pie, Bada Bing Cherry Vanilla, Peanut Butter Cookie Dough, Harvest Pumpkin Pie, Bubble Gum, Cotton Candy and more. As an ice cream expert this shop I would put at the top of my list. The FDNY Cherry Italian ice has real cherries in it. It is by the far the best Italian ice I had. I come here at least twice a week. Its a bit pricey but the quality is excellent. They do have friendly staff which is a plus. read more

I love the vanilla chip Italian ice here, it's so vanilla-y and smooth and the chocolate is just the right amount and that's why it receives 5 stars. In the summer I come here literally every day. And for $2 for a regular ice, why not? The people who work here are very nice, the lines can get a little long, but it's ice cream in the summer, what do you expect? I suppose I could branch out and try other flavors, but I just don't see the point. I will need to try the actual ice cream at some point, but I can't imagine giving up the cheap and low in calorie ice. Really, it's the best Italian ice I've ever had. read more

My partner in crime and I stopped here for an ice cream and got the Cookies and Cream, and the Brooklyn Cheesecake. A very sweet and helpful guy behind the counter showed us what the different cup sizes were like and recommended we just split the large cup instead of getting the pint (which I was greedily suggesting). I was overjoyed to find that the Cookies and Cream was absolutely amazing, but the Brooklyn Cheesecake was a little disappointing. It just tasted super creamy with random, tiny chunks of frozen cheesecake stuck in it. You can't really complain at $4 though. read more

This place is essential. Always a good scene out on the benches on a warm afternoon or evening. $1.75 for an ice is great deal. Be sure to split it and get two flavors. Their ice cream is sinful and I generally try to stay away from it because the ices do me right, without the added fat. (Even the chocolate, peanut butter, and other less traditional ices are good.) Louie G has wonderful, smooth ice cream that is reasonably priced and well-portioned. It is right around the corner from me and I would love to return but I have doubt for one reason - plastic cone holders. As someone who is constantly aware of the impact of consuming non-biodegradable waste, I hesitate to increase the amount of plastic I use. On my next trip, I will see if I can order it without the plastic cone holder. If so, I will frequent this shop often. read more

My daughter and I really enjoy the ice cream and gelatos at Louie G's. However, they have one rule that I think makes no sense, so I wanted to call it out on Yelp. I think this arbitrary rule is strictly followed at the two Park Slope locations (7th ave and 9th Street, and Union Street between 5th and 6th Ave.). So, if you are the owner of these two locations, I urge you to change this rule... Apparently, if you get a large (3 scoops), you can only get two flavors (e.g., two scoops of one flavor, one scoop of the other). If you ask for three flavors with a large, you are met with serious attitude about it from the staff. It leaves my 6 year old daughter fairly disappointed every time despite the great gelato. read more

I like this location best, no matter how long the line is, the girls inside work their asses off to keep it moving. I haven't had Louie G's since high school, I used to live on the stuff while studying for finals. When my friend brought me here after a nice stroll in Prospect Park I jumped for joy. The creamy italian ices are the perfect compromise between ices and ice cream. I always get the vanilla oreo and chocolate peanut butter, my friend got coconut which was probably better than mine. The staff is friendly, efficent and they give you a little "cone saver" so you dont spill all over yourself like I tend to do. Must find one closer to the EV. read more

I much prefer the ice instead of the ice cream. delicious. I love the peanut butter chocolate chip ice (which has chunks of those peanut butter cup candies in it). One thing that would be nice is if they had health/nutritional info available so we could understand whether ice is better for you (or worse or the same) than ice cream. I consider myself somewhat of a pro when it comes to frozen desserts and this place is awesome. I went twice in one day if that tells you anything. On my first trip I got the pina colada ices - mmmm - even had pieces of coconut. 2nd trip - chocolate peanut butter ices. OMG, delicious and so decadent. Now, the sign says it only had 90 calories, but I don't think I believe that. Still, really delicious stuff! read more
