Perfect little spot. A great addition to the Hyde Park neighborhood. The space is really cute - with a nice dining area outside as well as inside. The food is so great. I didn't try anything crazy - just a basic sandwich - but it was so special. Nice veggies and well sliced, healthy meat. And a unique oil-based dressing that brought the whole thing together. I like Little Nicky's a lot. They have coffee for the day and drinks for the evening and a range of yummy foods, all at reasonable prices, especially considering the quality. Wow!!! Let's see how can I say this... Horrible service today!! I hate to say this but hadn't been there in a couple weeks... Its my birthday came for a couple drinks and their wonderful meatballs ... No one at front register ok maybe might be busy in the back... Stood there and watched the female (guessing bartender/server) text on her phone for well over 5 minutes... and had to interpret her to get her attention... which was really funny because another customer sitting at the counter trying to get her attention the whole time as I was watching her go to town on her phone. We even laughed about it a couple times. I finally interrupted her in her deep conversation with her phone that she finally came to the counter with an attitude... rude service the whole time we were there... prices on the board for happy hour weren't right and then when pointed out got more of an attitude that we were being charged wrong and they said no these are the new prices even though it said something on the board. Whe. I went to ordered another drink one of their specialities spiked lemonade (like lemencillo) charged me and then learned it wasn't ready said they would bring it out to me and 20 minutes later I had to walk back in and ask where my drink was... bar back was dirty... staff was lazy... horrible attitude and I promise you I won't be back. read more

Really wanted to like this place in my neighborhood and gave it several tries, I'm done. I'm from Rhode Island so I know a bit about Italian restaurants and markets. Don't mind paying for quality, however I don't want to be robbed. If you want to pay $16 for a couple tiny cookies, 2oz. of stuffed peppers and focaccia toast, this is the spot for you. I love that we have this spot in the neighborhood, it has a cool ambiance and the service is always great. And I love a negroni! Plus amazing gelato? Big plus. But I have to ask... what's going on with the pasta? It's always been over cooked in my opinion but the last few times I've tried it it's been complete mush. Like, canned chef boyardee soft. Being that pasta seems to be a main offering it's really surprising, and at this point I can't even eat it. The rest of the food is okay, a bit bland IMO but you could get away with describing it as simple and fresh I suppose. Salads come with about 1/4 the amount of dressing I actually want which is always a bummer. Still, love the place, but would definitely visit more often if the food was leveled up a bit. I love this place for a quick bit quality bite to eat! They're always pretty fast even when busy and their food is fresh and delicious. Came here on my birthday and ate on the patio after a rainy night. Vibes were great and the food was better. It was my first time at Uncle Nicky's and the first of many! Loved what I had: the rigatoni and kale salad with truffle vinaigrette and pine nuts. Shared a bottle of wine with friends and got complimentary dessert for my birthday--naturally had to choose the birthday cake gelato, which was delicious. Counter service makes the atmosphere more relaxed but food is really high quality. The gal behind the counter was so sweet. Loved this spot - cute cafe vibes. Very low key but amazing food, I would love to come back some time. Every bite was delicious, prices were fair. Very rare for me to not have a single thing I didn't like. We got the carpaccio, crudo, kale salad, Classico pane, vanilla cream donut, and some drinks. The N'duja toast was incredible! Funky, spicy, strong. So not for the faint of heart, but lovely. That's the only food I tried on this first visit, and I'm looking forward to trying other things on their menu. I ordered a glass of red, and got it in a tiny water glass. I believe this is because that's how they do it in Italy with their table wine, but I'm not educated on this, so I'm really guessing here. It only bugged me a bit because it looked like such a small amount of wine for $9, and at that price I prefer my high quality wine in a wine glass (with cut edge- yes, that's snobby, but take the Pepsi challenge some day on this, trust me). And I'm guessing it's a full pour- but the glass makes the amount look like two shots. I realize that's being picky, so no big deal. Other than that, they are solid. Lovely space. Really nice fresh sandwiches. I was worried when I saw a kaiser roll. They make me think of a stale grocery store bread but not here, they were soft fresh and perfect for the sandwich. Tried this place this morning, had the Mambo Italiano and a draft beer. Sandwich was very tasty and made of the highest quality ingredients, served reasonably fast. This place opened up in the back of my neighborhood and I'm all about it! Their drinks are fun especially the fluffy OJ! My boyfriend and I love walking here and sitting on the patio while we grub on their Taylor Ham sandwich and share the What's Nduja. I've been by here for lunch a few times. Everything I've had so far has been delicious. Today, I decided to try their tuna sandwich, which I did not care for (it was too salty for my taste). To each their own, this is why we try things and it's not the end of the world if you don't like something. I let my server know, and y'all, they took care of me! Everyone was so nice and gracious, offering me another sandwich or salad. I opted for the kale salad because its DELICIOUS. And they threw in a sweet treat for the road. I love this place. I came with a group of four and while there isn't a ton of indoor seating, especially for groups, we got a spot at the bar. The vibe is laid back but still stylish. I split the What's Nduja pane tostada, the Classico pane tostada, and a caprese salad. The two tostadas were INCREDIBLE. I imagined they would be super simple but they are creative and flavorful. The caprese was a good portion and simple. I tried to baccala tostada, but I'd skip it for the other two. I finished off the meal with a simple and delicious chocolate pastry. On top of the great flavor, the pricing seems super reasonable. The same dishes would easily be 2x the price at most new restaurants in town. The service was great too. I just found Uncle Nicky's today, which happens to be the sister restaurant of my longstanding favorite Juniper, and I wish I had found it sooner. It's tastefully decorated, bright, and the staff create a warm, supremely hospitable environment. The best part is it's good for breakfast, lunch, dinner, cocktails, and everything in between. If a place can go 3 for 3 with a Bolognese, pancakes, and original cocktails, that's how you know you've found something special. I can't wait to go back. read more

I come here fairly often, and it's consistent - but I will say I wish it were better! My expectations are pretty low at this point so I enjoy the experience "enough" to keep returning. Staff is hit or miss on courtesy - one woman in particular is always rather nasty, but the others are friendly and attentive enough. Zucchini toast is tasty, but getting oilier and more bitter every time. Meats are always tasty and bread seems fresh. Cocktails are consistent, but heavy on the sweet side. Recent trips there have certainly been soured by folks smoking in their covered patio - which is the main dining area, especially given covid - so if you like sipping a cocktail in the fresh air with a whiff of cigarettes, then great. The flies are often out of control on summer days, so choose your table wisely. Will I be back? Yes. Will I be disappointed? Probably. But with the right expectations, it's a decent neighborhood spot for a small bite and small cocktail. read more

While I really enjoyed the food, the service has really been quite awful. I tend to order pick up at night, and for the past two times I've visited , I've received a lot of attitude from the employees. What a relief, a late night diner not only still offering food, but good food! After a long concert, some friends and I wanted to have a sit down and something good to eat. Since we're from Houston, we did not really have an idea where to go where we could still hear one another and go up against the bar scene. We settled on Uncle Nicky's and we were pleasantly surprised at the menu in the evening hours! We all oped up some delicious appetizer such as the boiled eggs, nicely sprinkled with course salt and pepper as well as the chilled shrimp. We all ordered something different in hopes to share with one another but it did NOT go as planned. Everyone enjoyed the sandwiches and we didn't hear a peep from anyone till everyone was ready for lattes and gelato.
